On my recent trip to Houston!…read more When I was searching for dowtown bars and dancing, Behind Closed Doors popped up. It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here. I promise you will have the best time. We did not stay for dancing.

He even knocked it out of my hand and I had to use my phone as a flashlight to find the pod while he stood over me and wouldn't let me go back inside to even find my dd or let my friend go into to find him. The staff is ableist and not understanding in the slightest and won't listen to reason even when you're even a little intoxicated. One of my other friends got kicked out one time for tripping. So I would only go here if you have no intention of having any type of human needs. I would also like to point out there was someone on the patio literally passed out on the patio that they deemed allowed to stay. I'm extremely disappointed in the staff for turning one of my favorite places in Houston into the worst experience I've ever had with a staff member at a bar or a club.

The second room seems to stick mostly to reggaeton and hip hop. Live bands rotate every week and play on both Fridays and Saturdays. Both halls feature large bars. There is plenty of seating available if you are purchasing alcohol. If you are not drinking, you cannot sit down for free; you have to pay for a table. The staff is friendly. Drinks run between $8 and $15 for alcoholic options, and water is $4. A notable thing here is that a lot of people come specifically to dance--I saw women coming alone and positioning themselves near the dance floor. The crowd felt like it was generally mid-20s and above. The overall atmosphere with other patrons was friendly and not combative. My one gripe is that the music can be very, very loud. For parking, it's $10 in the back lot and $20 if you park in the front.

This place was kinda nasty in my opinion. Atleast it was when I went to see Deorro for my first time here. The security at the door was really aggressive in his heckling for ID's, like even for a nightclub, dude was just screamin at people indiscriminately, telling them shit's fake and seeing if people freak out. Maybe that works with the kids, but like this guy's hittin everyone's ears with it. Real welcoming guy. So I went to the bar to get a drink, get a crown and coke. The bartender asks me open or closed. Now looking back, I don't know why in the hell I would leave my card with any entertainment business that runs purely at night, but I was literally sitting right in front of them at the bar so I said open because I wanted to keep drinking. So I finish two drinks before deorro comes on, and then ask the girl who had been helping me the entire time to close me out. She'd shuffled around the bar, but she was good looking so I recognized her face. And then she tells me oh, we don't have any card in your name! And I say so, how have I been getting these drinks then? She says "oh we thought we recognized you", so I said "but you don't BUT you also DON'T have my card?" She says no, you should ask the girl that helped you. No eye contact after "we don't have your card". Something to take note of is that all of the bartenders wear the same outfit/uniform. So the gimmick here is they tell you it wasn't them and you've got to pick them out of a lineup like we're in a crime show or some shit. And then they can just lie straight to your face anyway because you're in their house, they got huge security people on pay here yk? The casual way that this girl just blew me off was fuckin unreal. Like she'd done it a million times. Regardless, if they "don't have my card", it was stolen so I reported it stolen that night with my credit union before I stepped away from the bar. That same night, my card incurs a charge of $150.00 with the description: Spire - Houston Since I called the card in stolen immediately, the bank denied them, but I want to warn anyone that heads out here, these people shady af. Like the people coming through were cool, I came alone and ran into a crew that took me in, and then we found another little crew to join with, but I do not recommend coming here alone if you tryna get loose because this club will try to shake you down. Atleast that's my experience. The venue itself is pretty humble, it's just a small building on the block. They've got a floor that fits a small crowd inside of an outer circle of booths. I saw a second floor which I assume is VIP, but only one set of three people up there, even for a name like Deorro. There's a small outside smoking area too. Like 3 small benches out there and a fountain. So it's a humble little place with shady practices, if you're happy to soldier through that mess while you're going out to just chill, power to you, the music is great. Last night was my best friends bday so after paying 100$ to get in and skip the line I wanted a bottle duh so They charged 600$ .... so the "manager" came to me and said he's letting people party in his section so we all went when the bday girl got there this ugly girl with glasses and jeans on started kicking her and my other friends out ... not cool so I told her hey chill the manager told us to come and she kept on started saying she worked there and that we were not allowed fightin with the manager doing the most. So I started pouring drinks and ignored her then she started yelling and calling me a dumb bitch and my friends so I grabbed the bottle and poured the whole Thing on her head lol go to spire if u want to get 700$ stolen and a fight over ghetto girls went to cle they comped our whole night nothing but ball players and ballers such a good crowd nothing like that ghetto piece of shit spire lol me and my girls will never go back.. worst club ever !! Don't bother going to this club at all. First be carful for the bouncers. Most of them will just try to scam anyone who they think looks close to the age of 21. Over or under. They will take a guess when you give them your IDs and attempt to extort you for $20 or more. They will try to tell you your REAL government issued ID is fake and demand $20 form you if you want it back. Watch out for the bouncer with the long pony tail. Cocky guy that will rob you. Also most of the staff is very rude. Bartenders are slow and make poor watered down drinks. Lots of other options in Houston. Hope this helps. read more

This place is not a reception hall, it's a nightclub I've never seen them serve food. If you go inside there are booths for sections (bottle service) they have Houston vice & tabc on payroll and I believe I've heard a judge also. that's why they keep getting away with everything they have tons of people on their payroll! They also have a really good light system with laser beams and LEDs all over the place but it's not over-done. The bathrooms....yeah they're the same. nasty nasty wet floors. A few notes, as it turned out, the cover charge is now $10 instead of $5 in the old days but the door guy told me that if you guy before 10pm, it's still 5...I was there like 10 minutes too late so it would have been nice of him to forgive that extra 10 minutes alas, it is what it is and maybe in 14 years I'll actually ask around first! I kid...On the plus side, they had happy hour till 10:30 PM and drinks were like around $2? so it kind of made up for it. I'm not going to lie, I had a blast even though the AC was not keeping up with the crowd. I'll try to make it here more often now.

They do however serve up generous cold pours and compassionate interesting conversation. I have met more people who want to talk literature, music, or science while drunk off their stools than in any other bar. Thoroughly recommended and I would go on a weekday when the serious alcohol fans are hanging out.
