I paid this company $250 for the owner Chuck to come out to my home, evaluate what needed to be done and give me a quote for doing the job. He said that they absolutely do the work that I needed done to get my fountain back in shape to be able to operate again. The $250 was supposed to be applied to my price after they did the job. He came out to my home and wrote some things down and said he would email me the quote. He never even did that. You'd think if he didn't want to do the job he would just quote something stupid expensive. But he didn't even do that. One thing to note - He said that he basically charges like an attorney. So my daughter and son in law purchased a beautiful home in Woodstock. He transferred here for a new job. The home came with a very nice Koi pond. The only thing is it looked like it had never ever had any maintenance to it. So shopped online to find someone to help us since we have never had a pond before. Came across Splendor Koi website which was very informative. Gave them a call came out within a week. Excellent job, well trained employees, very knowledgeable. I am extremely disappointed in my recent experience at Splendor Koi. Such a ripoff. I just moved into a house with a koi pond, so I was in search of some koi to put in. I clearly made a bad choice attempting to buy them here. The cheapest koi fish , which were super small, were $35 each. I did some digging, and found out that PetSmart sells the same ones for $6 each. The nearby PetSmart always seems to be sold out of them, so I think Splendor Koi buys them to resell. The big koi are $650 . What the heck? Who's going to pay that much for a fish. I realize that this is a small business , so they're prices are bound to be a bit high, but there's no need to rip off people this extremely. Also, the services they offer are a joke. They charge $130 just to come look at your koi pond and see what needs to be done. They don't even put that towards the cost of service if you bought any. This is another huge ripoff, I will take my business elsewhere where I can get a list of what needs to be done, and not have to pay $130. There were no COVID-19 precautions here whatsoever. No employees were wearing masks. Not even a single sign encouraging social distancing. I felt very unsafe here. The whole place smelled of cigarette smoke and you felt like I felt like I was in a hoarder house . I think they need to rebuild with a more welcoming storefront and layout, and new management. read more

I strongly recommend that you do not use this company for cleaning services. The long and short of it is that Splendor Koi & Pond told me multiple times that I did not need to be at home when they came out to do a cleaning. I wasn't, because my wife was in labor at the time. They called me at the hospital and then charged me for the time it took someone to get to the house. When I called to ask about the charge, I was then verbally abused by ownership, as if it was my fault. Allow me to share the full details of my recent experience, though, and then you can decide for yourself if Splendor Koi & Pond is a company you want to do business with. I had used the company before a couple times, to replace a pump, inspect a leak, and get a full cleaning. So, when my pond started backing up and requiring me to clean out the filter on a weekly basis, I called them up. My first call was on May 6, and I left a message. I called again the next day, twice, and still just got an answering machine. I still hadn't gotten a call back on the 8th, so I decided to give them one more call to see if they were still in business. Finally, someone picked up. I informed him I wanted a cleaning and a new filter. He said they would have to email an invoice to be approved. The invoice landed in my spam folder. I found it on the 12th. The "invoice" was very low on details, pretty much just informing me of their hourly rate and some other fees without any indication on how long the work would take. It also didn't include the filter I had requested, so I responded asking about that. I never got a response to the email. I called again on Thursday, May 20th. The person I spoke to informed me that they might be able to get out the next day, depending on if they had the filter in stock. If they didn't, they would be able to get me the end of the next week, but they weren't sure when exactly because, as I was repeatedly told, "The owner writes the schedule." They never called back, so I figure they didn't get the part. Meanwhile, one of my fish died before I had a chance to clean the filter myself on Saturday. I called them back Monday the 24th, and they told me that they still couldn't give me a definitive date and time. They assured me though, that I didn't need to be there for the work. On Thursday the 27th, they called me to tell me I was on the schedule for the next day. When I asked whether it would be morning or afternoon, they promptly reneged and told me that they would not be able to get me in and would have to call me back. They called me back later in the day to tell me that they would be able to get me in either next Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, but could not tell me which. They again reassured me that it didn't matter, because I didn't have to be there when they came out. On Tuesday, June 1, I got the long-awaited call. They would be out the following day. They couldn't tell me whether it would be the morning or afternoon, but who was I to complain at that point? Again, they said I didn't need to be there. Then, that night, my wife's water broke. I called and left a message informing Splendor Koi & Pond that I would not be home, and if that was a problem to call me and I would try to be available. The next morning, while I am sitting in a hospital room with my wife still in labor, I get a call that they are at my house and they need me to open my garage and unplug the pond pump. Words cannot describe the anger I felt at that moment. I told them I would call my neighbor who was housesitting. She was not at home, but graciously was able to hurry back. They told her that they also needed a power source. All of that would have been obviously pertinent information they should have shared with me. Her assessment was that they were, "dumb." When I returned home from the hospital, I was happy to see that the work was complete. Then I saw the bill. First of all, the "invoice" they sent quoted "Time and Travel Expense" at $50. They charged me $75. But the kicker was that they charged me labor for the time it took my neighbor to get home. In total, it took them over twice the time to clean the pond this time as it did the time before. Considering that their $275 per hour labor rate made up the bulk of the cost, it was a substantial price difference. I called them to ask about this and left a message. I received a phone call the following morning. Rather than be apologetic and understanding, the owner verbally berated me. Apparently, only "one of 100" ponds" don't have a power source nearby. They couldn't have possibly foreseen that the ability to unplug the pump and access to a "nearby" power source was pertinent information they should have shared with me. The owner asked if I had agreed to the initial invoice, which laughably I actually never had, but I assured him I would pay the sum. Actually, they already had charged my card days before. I told him that I simply never would do business with them again. read more

We have used Splendor Koi under the ownership of Chuck Crisp pretty much since he opened the shop. Cannot say anything but positives about the staff, their care in dealing with ponders and our issues and standing behind their work and products. That is a rare thing these days for certain! We will not use anyone else for our 2K koi pond!! If you want to build a pond, better get these guys or you might be very sorry! Having a pond can either be a real nightmare or a joy. I believe I was defrauded by this business. I spoke to them to schedule an appointment. I was told I would be charged $170 but only after I read and signed an agreement. I received no such agreement but was immediately charged $170. I called to schedule an appointment and was told that they would call me with a window. Instead I received a call to say that their technician was thirty minutes away. An hour later the person showed up and looked around my property and told me that I would need to hire his firm for $250 an hour. When pressed he said that "either the pond was leaking, or the pond was overflowing. For this he charged me $170 and left. He also fell into my pond. My security cameras captured the entire incident and I am happy to share this with anyone. read more

My large koi pond was approaching ten years old and it needed an overhaul. I also have a second smaller koi pond that is even older. I have about a dozen fish in the large pond, but none in the smaller pond due to a leak. It was past time to get these ponds fully operational and looking beautiful again. I checked a few koi pond companies but was most impressed by Splendor's' professionalism. They sent out someone who was very knowledgeable of koi pond design and maintenance. We discussed my options and went over a few estimates. Splendor left with a good idea of what I was looking for. A few days later I received a very detailed proposal with the options discussed and a full cost breakdown that included labor. It was explained that the labor estimates could go lower or higher. I gave Splendor the go ahead and after providing a partial down payment, scheduled a day for the work to be done. Three men came out and worked very efficiently. I checked on them throughout the day and all three were hard at it. Things progressed quickly and with care. Both my fish and property were handled professionally. I was very thankful for that for a couple years ago I had a koi pond company clean my large pond and several of my large koi did not do as well. This being a large job, a second day was needed to complete the tasks. There were lights and a transformer to install. Again, the two men that came out this day worked very quickly and in a couple hours they were through. This included cleaning up. Actually blowing off my deck and flagstones surrounding the pond. First class job all around. There were a few minor issues over the next few days that I asked to be addressed. When I called Splendor, I always fealt that my business was very important to them. They listened to my requests and within days the issues were resolved. yesterday I received my final statement and was pleased to see that the work was done in fewer hours than estimated. The exact times to the minute were itemized on this invoice and they matched what I had recorded. I did see one billing detail that I questioned. I called the store and they made the adjustment. I have set up a maintenance schedule with Splendor, having complete confidence in their abilities, their professionalism, and their concern that I am satisfied. read more

I hired Splendor Koi and Pond because my pond was leakiing. $300+ and two weeks later, it was leaking again. I contacted them and they said actually the pond has so many patches I need a new liner--for about $2000. I wonder why they did not tell me that the liner was so "old and patched" that I needed a new one, instead of patching the leaks they found, only to have it leak again. Now I am out $300 and need to get a brand new liner. read more

We moved into our house 7 years ago with an overgrown trash filled broken waterfall in the backyard. My dream was to have it flowing , filling the house with the sounds of relaxing water moving as if we were in the mountains. We hired, and paid 3 different pond/ waterfall services that could not make the waterfall come close to working. They smiled, and spoke a good game, but could not figure out how to make the waterfall operate. After moving boulders, purchasing filters, motors, drafting designs and redesigns, my husband told me my dream was over. I then found Splendor Koi on Yelp, and convinced my husband to allow me one last try! Chuck, the owner, who is a little rough around the edges, took one look and said this job could absolutely be successfully completed, and he would even add an additional waterfall, all flowing into a pond with koi! He was most professional, creative and responsible in completing the job. This picture shows the unbelievable beauty he was able to produce our of a dirty dry river bed. One of the only places in town to get liner and pond supplies including top notch pumps. A little pricey but you can get what you need in one place. My suggestion is call ahead and make sure they have what your looking for before you make the drive. The only reason why I'm giving them a 3 star is because I called ahead and the gal didn't physically verify that they had what I was looking for. I ended up making two trips and wasting a day. Worst experience of my life. Chuck Crisp is, by far, the rudest individual I have ever met. Trying to buy something at his retail store and work with him was an absolute nightmare. I have never written a review on a company before but I had to to let everyone else know to avoid this place in case you might have to deal with Crisp. I had shopped there several times and during those times, the employees were nice and helpful. However, on my last visit, I had to deal with Crisp and his obnoxious, condescending attitude was a shock. I had never had anyone treat me like that. I would never step foot in that store again.
