I actually had heard about this place a little while back while looking for options that would deliver to the Police Memorial Building nearby, and the menu looked so interesting and yummy! I happened upon it again when my friend Rebecca N and I were downtown for the tree lighting at the Landing this weekend. The line was long when we got there but pretty fast moving. There were plenty of seats, and after we ordered we settled in for some chatting over a John Boat for me and a red wine for her. The wait for a grilled cheese and a salad did seem a little longer than I would think, but when the food came out if was so good I didnt even care anymore! I ordered a goat boy sammich with the cucumber and feta salad on the side..the flavors were really good, the bread was the perfect golden brown and the salad had a nice tart flavor. I will say the tri tip steak was kinda chewy, but its not something that would stop me from eating here again. While we were eating, we watched the place fill up to PACKED! Something I noticed was that it was all sorts of people, young and old, hipster and preppies..a little of everyone..i think thats really cool to see. the other thing that stands out about Spliff's is the atmosphere..the exposed brick and art and murals is soooo dope, and i see that theres a patio im bummed we didnt check out. Service was god awful; waited 10 minutes to be given silverware after getting our food. Tables dirty. Food was okay. This has always been one of my favorite spots downtown. I heard about the lobster Mac and cheese so we went to check it out. Everyone is right it is delicious. The sandwiches are great. They have vegetarian and vegan options. The menu is not extensive but what they do they do well. They have a full bar and some great craft beers from local places. I used to love checking out the live music/DJ's (Mas Appeal is my favorite) out back but they moved recently and I'm sure what the new set up will be like. They only offer 3 sodas and only in cans. So I ordered a Sprite with a cup of ice. Now for the coup de grace....ice don't exist here. Seriously. They don't have cups, or ice. The girl at the counter was definitely not friendly. The food came out they were gracious enough to toss me a few ketchup packets. The burger was at best adequate. Mac n cheese forgettable, and the drinks would have benefitted greatly with frozen cubes of water. So in closing if you want to mince the streets with fragrant homeless people asking for money, want to experience a hipster mecca, unfriendly wait staff, tepid drinks, and over priced gas station quality food this might be for you. read more

If you have dietary restrictions, don't expect them to pay attention to those details as they will get it wrong. Recently moved to Springfield and found out there's not a ton of places to get takeout from (though lots of great new places are starting to open up!), so we decided to order from a place downtown. So happy we went with Spliff's after checking out their menu. Ordered the Duval Dirty Bird, The Big Spliff, and the OG Mac and Cheese. When we went to pick our order up a half hour later we found the place to be pretty packed on a Wednesday night which is a good sign. After a bit of a wait we left with our food, having paid $30. Not bad for 3 meals (yes there was only 2 of us but don't judge). Anyways, the food was great! Both sandwiches had a tasty and unique flavor. The Big Spliff was a little spicy but just the right amount of heath. The dirty bird was my favorite of the two. The Mac and cheese and the sides (cucumber and pasta salads) were all delicious. So I thought I'd give it a try and boy I'm glad I did. walked in sat down at a side table and the waitress/bartender came over and gave us our menus and said just come to the counter when you're ready to order so we did. My wife got the Dirty Hippie Salad with grilled chicken with an iced tea, and I ordered the Caesar Elbow Salad and the 1904 Ham Sandwich. My wife said her salad was really good and extremely big. While my salad was also really good and huge too. Later while talking to the manager while looking at the patio they have out back I suggested they get a side salad size to go with the sandwich's. We've been on the road for a week & not strangers to traveling. We wanted some comfort food on this rainy, so close to the ocean day. We ordered, picked up and brought back within 5 minutes. We ordered the Gordon Bleu Dreams and it was extremely dry, Sahara desert dry. The chicken, ham, mac and cheese, burnt bread crumbs; everything was inedible. When partner in crime bought it back, they were extremely nice and asked to remake it/asked us what we wanted it. I'm conflicted about this review because the food was SO EXCELLENT but the service was so TERRIBLE. Order put in: 2:02 PM, food brought out: 2:43. I ordered the hummus wrap dish with the cucumber tomato salad which was delicious and my friend ordered a pulled pork grilled cheese, with a side of Mac (also said it was great) but.... how long should that really take to make?! Apparently they had one cook, but I feel like if they had more staff on hand this could've been a much better experience. [This place was opening at 6pm and open until 130am on a Sunday!] I went on Yelp and read a few reviews - I saw a photo of the Lob Star Mac I was SOLD. We came in expectations still kind of low, darker scenery not much seating [found out after theres more seating in the back]. We ordered Lob Star Mac [BEST] the shrimp mac and the pot belly - everything was delicious!! So much food and the prices were so reasonable for the amount of food you get. We left with full bellies, left overs, and smiles. Rome helped us out with beer selections and even menu options he was so knowledgeable and made our experience even better. They have a decent collection of craft beer to chose from as well :) I tried The Goat Boy- which is a grilled cheese with tri tip steak, caramelized onions, sweet peppers, provolone and goat cheese. The sandwich was delicious, I mean you can't really go wrong with goat cheese and the sandwich had a lot of flavor, peppers were yummy. Both me and my coworker got the duval chicken sandwich and we both agreed it was the best thing we've ever had. Small spot, but definitely the place to go for a sandwich and a beer. We started off with the Spicoli wedges. They were delicious. Puff pastry covered in goat cheese, tomato, and basil with bacon crumbled and a balsamic glaze. Mmmmm. Then we had our meals. Though we were super tempted to try one of the many mac n cheese bowl options, we decided on a lighter lunch of sandwiches. I got the 1904 which is a baked ham sandwich. It packs a lot of flavor with sweet tomatoes and honey mustard on your choice of toasted bread. For a side item I got a portion of mac n cheese (because I had to try at least a little right?) and it was awesome. Not too heavy, just the right amount of sauce on those corkscrews. My friend got the bandit, which is a chicken salad and sprouts sandwich. For her side she chose the Greek pasta salad and it was awesome! Same corkscrews but a whole different flavor. Overall, we will be returning because there are so many amazing menu items we have yet to try! read more

I had a great dining experience at Spliff's Gastropub this past weekend while visiting downtown Jacksonville before my flight back to San Francisco. A quick Yelp search for some good beer and vegan friendly pub options, Spliff's was the perfect spot to grab some beers and lunch before heading to the airport. My fiancé and I came here on Labor Day so parking on the street was easy (there is a lot of street parking options, meters, parking lots, etc within the area). We came about an hour after opening so we were the first people to come into this spot for the day, immediately greeted by the super friendly bartender who offered us some menus and tastes of the local draft selection before we made our choice of what to indulge in. Spliff's offers about 20 rotating beers on draft as well as some wine to choose from. We both stated with a double IPA from Miami and quickly looked over the great food menu for some lunch. Everything on the menu is labeled as vegetarian or vegan making my selection easy (thank you!). I went for the JacksonVegan, a vegan spin on the classic turkey club made with Tofurky, avocado, carrots, tomato and a vegan aioli (yum). I got it served up on toasted wheat bread and a side of the cucumber and tomato salad without goat cheese to go full vegan. My fiancé got (from recommendation of the bartender) the cordon blue mac and cheese (filled with chicken, ham, swiss cheese and broccoli). The food came out fairly quick and the portions were huge, especially the mac and cheese (dang!). Everything was delicious, I love having some unique and hearty vegan options like Spliff's is able to offer so I am not stuck just having a plain jane salad with fries for my meal along with some great beers. Totally a place I would frequent if I lived in the area for lunch. I think they have happy hour during the week as well as a great backyard/patio to chill out on a rare nice day in Florida.
