I've visited The Local several times, but brunch here is a total standout. If you go, you HAVE to try The Blue Goat. It's essentially a decadent dessert disguised as breakfast! The whipped goat cheese paired with fresh basil is a home run--it adds an unexpected brightness that perfectly balances the rich bread pudding. The Neptune Beach location is my personal favorite. I love the walkable proximity to the beach, and the patio is the place to be when the weather is nice. Came here for the first time and had a mixed experience. The location itself is nice. It's tucked next to a bakery with a pleasant outdoor setup. We came in through the back since we wanted to sit outside. It was a little hot, but the outdoor area was still enjoyable with a big shade tree in the middle. Definitely a good vibe on the patio. We ordered our food and, for how slow it was inside, the wait felt longer than it should have been. The restaurant wasn't very busy at all, with more people sitting outside than inside. Unfortunately, most of the food came out lukewarm. My roast beef sandwich and potatoes were barely warm, like they'd been sitting for a while, and the bottom bread was completely soaked. Our daughter's grilled cheese came out with the cheese not even melted, so we sent that back along with my sandwich. The salmon and quinoa also arrived lukewarm. The fried fish was cooked too long in the fryer and wasn't great. The bright spot was the short rib tacos my wife ordered. She said those were really good and probably the best thing we had. I do want to give credit where it's due. Our server was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. He genuinely saved the experience for us and handled everything with a great attitude. My husband ordered Mango Heat which was very tasty. Not too sweet not too spicy. For an appetizer we had the Burrata. Nice sized with pesto and bread. I'm a sucker for breakfast, it truly is the most important meal of the day. This cozy spot not far from downtown Jax was perfect for a pre-game breakfast stop! I had the Belgian waffle with a side of bacon, my breakfast pals both had the chicken and waffles. Love it!!! Took a large group here on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was a great experience. Our waitress was very kind and helpful, and even grabbed an assistant to help take orders and clean up when it started getting busier. The restaurant is warm, natural, and gorgeous inside (plus I'm in love with the brown chairs they have!). I'd also love to sit outside on their patio when the weather cools down! As for the food, I enjoyed the Breakfast BLAT ($15), which was really tasty. My only complaint was that the avocado was forgotten, which makes the dish! The home fries were delicious though, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I also tried the Ahi Tuna Poke Nachos ($17) and they were bright and flavorful. The crispy wonton "chips" were perfect with the soft tuna as well. Everyone else at my table really enjoyed their dishes and agreed that we need to come back! I was invited to a Friendsgiving here last weekend around lunchtime. I was surprised I hadn't heard of this place as I usually like to check out newer spots, but alas this one eluded me. We had a reservation outside and the large table out there is just excellent. They built a large square marble topped table with plenty of room in the center for the tree to have decades of growth if not centuries. They had string lighting around the entire outdoor area as well. It was just a nice little reprieve to have a gathering and some good food. My partner and I started with some cocktails: she had the berry smash punch and I had the midnight bloom. Both were nice mid-day drinks that were refreshing and not too sweet. We then ordered lunch after awhile and I ended up with the Hendrick Burger and she ended up getting the Belgian waffle since it was kind of close to brunch. That burger was fantastic and the fries were about par for most places. Good and crispy but nothing unique. The waffle was quite good and it came with a healthy amount of maple syrup (the only way to go in my book). I would say the service was very helpful and the staff was very nice and professional. However, they forgot my drink in the beginning and had to ask about it again and the food took longer than expected since there weren't many people there at that time. The bathroom was just average with nothing to write home about. It might have just been an off day for someone and wasn't the end of the world. All in all, I would like to come here again in the future and try some other items on the menu because I was really struggling to choose from several things that sounded good to me. The Local is my neighborhood joint, and it has really become a special place. If a coffee shop and corner diner had a baby, it would look like the Local. I've held off writing a recommendation because, quite frankly, post-covid, the food wasn't that great, and I'm just not going to throw shade on a good neighbor. But the kitchen has improved tremendously, and we have had nothing but positive experiences over the last couple years. We especially love the Sunday brunch menu with the short rib hash and Gumby's bowl being my go-to selections. I did the hurricane plate once, and napped the rest of the day. For dinner, I'm in the best rut ever, going with Argentinian salmon or crusted haddock on quinoa "fried rice" almost every time. Our waitress Kirra was kind and knowledgeable about the menu and suggested several drinks and apps. We started our meal with a S'mores old fashion and a Chaitini. Both packed with flavor and spice. There were so many app/small plate offerings we decided to order a few. The ahi tuna wonton poke nachos, the burrata plate with rosemany focaccia and hot honey chicken. Really chill place for brunch on a Saturday. It was busy, but not insane. We were able to grab a seat right away at 9:30am. We got a mimosa flight, as that's kinda the only alcohol they had for brunch. But also, I love a flight, so I probably would have ordered this regardless. Husband and I split it and it was perfect for us. I wasn't trying to get crazy because I have a bunch of errands to run today, but it gave us both a nice fuzzy feeling. So mission accomplished. (not to mention if you split one and realize you want more, you can always order another one). On to the food. Food was great! I got the Gumby and the ingredients were fresh, clean, and hearty. Visited The Local recently. The Happy Hour seemed to be a great deal and the menu looked very interesting. We walked in were able to choose our own seating. Inside featured a casual atmosphere with art featured and really cool barcodes where you could look into the artist. A great idea. They had really nice outdoor seating as well. We arrived at a time when lunch and brunch were both still available and there was a large menu for both. I ordered a Luminescence $4 draft. Great deal. We also wanted to share the Zucchini Fries for an appetizer off of the Happy Hour menu but they were not available. I ordered the Portabello sandwich and my wife ordered the Enzo sandwich. The portabello sandwich was a good combination of vegetables and flavors, but a bit salty. It was also on a normal hamburger type roll. That was the wrong choice. It would have been better on ciabatta bread or something more hearty. It came with the homemade chips. The chips were fresh, crispy and really good. Enzo sandwich was also good and fresh. This was the bread they should have used for the portobello sandwich. The sweet potatoes as a side were good, just OK. The service was spotty. We were waited on immediately, our food came out very quickly but then it became somewhat spotty. I basically had three different servers. I definitely would have ordered another beer if someone came back to the table. We waited a bit for the check and then to pay as well. The hostess was able to find the one empty table and sat us pretty quickly. The menu has plenty of breakfast and lunch options available. We opted for the standard chicken and waffles as well as a southwestern chicken salad. Both dishes were nice size portions. The flavor was a little lacking, though. The chicken on the southwest chicken salad was a bit overcooked and hard. The rest of the salad was tasty. The chicken and waffles was also average tasting. I've seen this place off the main road for years and have never been so when a friend's mom came to town we decided to give it a try. We went on a Monday morning right at 9:00 AM (opening time). We were the only ones in the place. I asked the server if it was busy and he said Monday's and Tuesday are slow. I have had this place bookmarked for a couple of years and we finally made it today. What a disappointing experience!!! We started with the green goddess hummus which came with roasted/blistered carrots and toasted baguette slices. The hummus itself was good. It would have been better with pita slices or cucumber slices...basically anything else. The carrots were just plain gross and the baguette slices were hard and strangely chewy at the same time. For lunch I ordered the Fried chicken Sandwich. Mine looked nothing like the pictures on Yelp. My bun was burnt, the chicken was burnt, I had to ask for more sauce because there was barely any. I showed the girl who brought the food out the burnt bun and asked for another. She literally walked out the kitchen with the top half of a bun in her hand and handed it to me. WTF! I guess I needed to show her both the bottom and top to get a total replacement. The chicken was so overcooked that I could not bite through a portion of it. I ordered blue cheese chips as my side they were ok. My husband got the club and BCR fries as his side. He said it was good. I typically do not post half eaten food but I am this time to show the discrepancy of what I received vs photos on Yelp. There are just too many good places to eat in this town.
