We are lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, and stop by Splits & Giggles as often as we can. The ice cream is delicious (we love the kids' cones) BUT the coffee drinks, sandwiches, and soups are amazing, too, and not to be missed! Thank goodness for Splits & Giggles! I've been a customer of Splits and Giggles since I first moved to my first apartment a block away, a few years ago, and stopped in for a sundae after a long day of unpacking. I immediately dropped it on the front steps, and was treated to a replacement by the wonderful owners, who didn't judge me for my clumsiness or my constant indulgence in ice cream. Since Splits changed owners, I've come to expect no less from my favorite ice cream spot in town. The delicious savory fare has had a gourmet upgrade rather than a total overhaul, adding tasty ingredients like caramelized onions (yum) to the original menu. There's now also an espresso menu, which means...affogatos!!! The selection of Hershey's ice cream has also been expanded into a second freezer. While some people may not like Hershey's, Splits certainly doesn't misrepresent what it is. They keep an excellent rotation of flavors for when you could really just use a $1 cone. read more

This was such a great little shop to visit! I had some time to kill after the dog park, so the pup and I got ice cream and ate on the outside patio. There are dog bowls outside too! Positive: The shop was really cute in a quaint little town. And I LOVE Hershey ice cream. Negative: The girl that was working there sprayed window cleaner all over the ice cream while cleaning the glass that covered the ice cream. Needless to say we left. I prefer my ice cream topped with sprinkles, not windex. BTW The manager responded to my review and stated that there was glass protecting the ice cream. The girl sprayed the window cleaner on the inside of the glass and I watched as the spritz of blue cleaner fell on the ice cream. Nice try, but I know what I saw. read more

I was meeting a friend in Lancaster, and found this place on Yelp. It already had five star reviews, and did NOT disappoint. Tucked inside a tiny corner storefront, Splits & Giggles feels very warm and inviting, if a bit cramped. There are only about two tables inside, but they do have a lovely patio out back with additional seating. The staff was friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered. The menu looked delicious. All of the sandwiches had Mary in the name, because the store is on the corner of Lemon and Mary. Personally, I think they should add some menu items with Lemon in the name, just to complete the theme. That might be misleading if they don't feature actual lemons, but here are some ideas: The Meadowlark Lemon, The Jack Lemmon, how about a Lemon Drop Kids Meal? It's an old Bob Hope movie, in case you're wondering. Anyway, on the review. I had the Proud Mary, which is turkey, provolone, roasted red pepper, basil and artichoke spread. I chose wheat bread, and had it grilled as a pannini. It was delicious. The blend of basil, pepper, and artichoke added a nice touch to what would have just been a turkey sandwich. My companion had the Hail Mary: hummus, tomato, romaine, cucumber, and sprouts. She was very happy with her choice. I also sampled a few ice cream flavors. All of them were delicious, and I settled on a milkshake made with salted caramel cruch ice cream. It was wonderful. My friend and I sat outside on the patio, and enjoyed the setting every bit as much as the food and the ice cream. He and the other employee were warm and engaging, and VERY patient with our indecisive party of 4 adults and 3 kids under 10yrs old! Generous samples were given, and the prices were AMAZINGLY low (94 cents for a kids cone...I paid a little over $2 for two full-sized scoops.) I picked up a brownie that was amazing, and I'm picky about brownies. So far the place sounds perfect, right? It's Hershey ice cream, and nothing extraordinary. Sure, my ice cream was delicious, and yes, this is Hershey country, but it's the same ice cream that I can get in my hometown - of Freeport - on Long Island. Look, is it a cute ice cream shop? Yes. Way better than Carvel? Naturally. Worth a 45-minute drive into Lancaster? Sorry, no. Good luck S&G, you look like the type of place that has a loyal local fan base, and deservedly so. read more

Is it the most gourmet lunch you can find during Restaurant Week? No. But it is the best deal, and the place itself is just so darn charming. I used to live next door, now up the block, and the owner is there always; you can really tell he cares about the shop. What an absolute nightmare of a man that was behind the counter. We came in, ordered 4 seperate things and were polite. I slipped the F word on accident and this zealot looked as if the world was about to end. Mind you it was 9pm on a school night. No kids, pure accident. He looked at my group as if we were filth, and his tone was absolutly appalling. Worst customer service I've ever experienced in 31 years. Ice cream was good though. This is the obvious go to for ice cream in Lancaster with a good selection and great prices, but we also enjoy their hot soups and sandwiches in cooler months. Stopped in for lunch on our way through town, and it was awesome.
