I recently took a summer road trip with the family up to St. Louis, where our extended family live. We usually do an annual trip and I've never really experienced great Asian foods, but this trip was very different. I really enjoyed my Spoonful experience! The inside is very cutely decorated for the gram, which I wouldn't have guessed based off the location in the strip mall. They have a cute photo wall and it was very crowded, which tells me the bingsu is on point, which indeed it was. Always a nice stop in to come here after JooJoo's or CM chicken. It's right next door. The staff is always friendly and attentive. As for food and drinks, I prefer getting the taiyaki here. I rarely get the bingso. I always do find a drink! I rotate between the peach tea with lychee and boba or the taro with boba or the regular milk tea with boba. Sometimes it gets really crammed on Friday or Saturday nights, so I wish they had more seating. But honestly people rotate through a lots, so it's not too bad. Such unique desserts! I had never tried (or heard of) bingsu before, so I was excited to try something new. It did not disappoint. I go the fruity pebbles bingsu. They offer sizes small and large, but the small is pretty dang large. It was a little pricey, too. I wish they would call that size "medium" and offer a smaller size. But it was still delicious - basically it is frozen cream that is shredded into tiny ice pieces. You can add condensed milk to it (please do) too. The texture reminded me a lot of Hawaiian shaved ice (like the real stuff in HI) but creamier. Very fun and pretty to look at. We also tried a Taiyaki - basically a waffle in the shape of a fish filled with something. We got ours with nutella inside. The waffle was so good!!! I've been to a lot of places that have waffles but they are really bland; there's was yummy and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Service was fine, the staff working was helpful. They have a little kiosk for ordering but it crashed when we almost finished and tried to pay so we just ordered with the person up front. My boyfriend and I each had a small bingsu (description said 1-2 servings): I had the mango/strawberry and he had the cookies & cream. Could the smalls serve 2 people as listed? Yes, and at about $13 per small, it'd be perfect for sharing. However, we both ordered - and ate in entirety - our own. The cookies and cream was the winner of the two. We would absolutely order a large next time to share since it's only a couple $ more than the small (less hungry people or those not as big on desserts could serve 4 ppl in a large). The mango/strawberry was also yummy! Their fruit sauces are made in house and didn't taste sickenly sweet or sticky. This was my first time trying bingsu and dare I say I like it more than frozen custard...maybe! I am lucky to discover these wonderful desserts from Korea. It is located on Olive Ave in Chesterfield next to the Korean restaurant Joo Joo. I have tried the red bean fish shaped desserts and the shaved ice. Even though the fish shaped bakery is too sweet for me, I really enjoy the matcha red bean shaved ice.
