Strange experience! I went for an alcoholic slushy, got the Secret Lovers. The slushy itself was yummy. However, I guess for COVID you have to mix your own drink. They give you a bag with airplane bottles along with your slushy. It was a little awkward to do while walking around Soulard. Instead of the advertised liquors, (I think it was supposed to be schnapps and peach Pearl Vodka) I was given 2 airplane bottles of 99 Peaches. It was still good but I was disappointed that wasn't reflected on the menu. The price was also $2 higher than indicated on the menu. I will say they did a good decent job with covid precautions, everyone had masks and only two people at a time were allowed inside. I'd give them another try post-covid times. read more

Disclaimer: The decanter at the front door is not cucumber infused vodka. When I first entered The Island, my eyes immediately went to the large dispenser containing clear refreshing liquid with thinly sliced cucumbers floating inside. I jokingly asked, "is that cucumber infused vodka?". The jovial cashier, gave a hearty laugh and informed me it was "just water". I have to admit I was disappointed, but once I sampled and filled my bowl with Froyo I was whisked away to a tropical "island". Those big chain Froyo shops have nothing on The Island, in fact The Island has them beat with flavor, toppings and customer service. I'm a purest, I like my yogurt plain like my flavored vodka. I like to experience their true flavors to the fullest. My "island" experience included; Madagascar Vanilla, Root Beer Float and Cheesecake. The Root Beer Float was as if you truly were having one, except it was all yogurt and no soda. If you crumbled up some graham crackers with the cheesecake, you'd think you were eating the real thing. However, the Madagascar Vanilla was my favorite, it had true vanilla flavoring. Even as a child my favorite ice cream was vanilla, I guess old habits are hard to break. I also grabbed some Banana FroYo to go, we had a neighbors birthday to celebrate when I got home from this UYE. I forgot to mention this was a UYE sponsored by Miss Soulard herself, Mandie M.. Finally! Soulard has a Frozen Yogurt shop! I am more than excited; I am ecstatic! I remember meeting Jason (owner) back in October and I didn't believe that the day would actually come where I could walk out my front door and walk up the street to get a tasty treat! It really happened; he did it! Jason is my new hero! It is my understanding they will be open 11-11 every day of the week! YES! This just made me so happy. The frozen yogurt reminds me of being in a tropical paradise! If I need a vacation I know where to go. I'm pretty sure they will change out the flavors frequently but tonight I was utterly impressed with the choices: Chocolate Milkshake Cheesecake Escape Island Colada Bunch of Bananas (my personal favorite) Orange Dream and finally Hawaiian Coconut I bet after reading this list you want to jump out of your seat and visit the Island Frozen Yogurt don't you? The toppings are just as they should be; fruits, candies (my persoal favorite-M&M's), cereal (coco pebbles and sometimes fruity pebbles too), and cookies/cookie dough. The fruit is purchased at the local farmer's market so we know it is fresh and locally grown! Of course they have whipped cream and chocolate syrup! It was a perfect treat! This place was amazing! We just came here on a whim. $.40 an ounce this is the cheapest i have yet to find. Flavors that were just full of flavors and deliciousness were: Yellow Cake Pink Cupcake Frooty Loops (Something like that) This is by far my second and close first froyo place in St. Louis just nudging below yogoluv. They have a frequent froyo card which is great :) They do not have a ton of choices, they only have 4 froyo machines so only 8 flavors at a time, alot less than say orange leaf. Great location, 15 minute parking outside too. There is outdoor seating but on a hot day its like an igloo in side you will love it! I should start by saying I used to LOVE The Island. A year or two ago, they eliminated a couple of their frozen yogurt flavors, and I hadn't been back in a while. I definitely toe the line on The Island. I will frankly admit to you that The Island Frozen Yogurt is seldom my first choice for sweet treats. However, I can't deny that this place does a great job, and the yogurt is absolutely wonderful here! After dinner and errands, we decided to take a trip to Ted Drewe's for a little dessert. Unfortunately, they have closed for the season, something that I tend to forget around January-February. Dejected, I went to one of my default treat places, The Island! I don't want to sound unappreciative of this place. I am never disappointed with the product. I am especially never let down by the service. The people are helpful and generous with samples. The girl gave me two small cups to test out the flavors, and this really helped me make my decision. I chose three different flavors: peanut butter, banana, and yellow cake! The flavors all blended together nicely. However, I am terrible at picking out toppings! I went with strawberry pop rocks, Reese's pieces, graham cracker, and candy-coated chocolate chunks. All and all, the concoction worked out just fine! Even though I don't normally set out for this place, it's always a pleasure when I do get a cup of its frozen yogurt. Love this place! Good variety of flavors and super nice employees, what more can you ask for? Notable flavors are banana, chocolate milkshake, and fruit loops. The first 2 are delicious mixed together and fruit loops is just an awesome flavor, very unique! I want to try some of their other flavors (rootbeer, island colada, and marshmallow) but unfortunately it's like a 30 minute drive for me so I only really go here when I am in the area. I came here originally for Mandie M.'s UYE but since it was on a Tuesday, I didn't really have time to stop and try the ice cream since Sean wanted to get out to Westport for trivia night. I love the different rotating flavors they have each week and all the different toppings. They're the cheapest frozen yogurt place that I know of in town when it come to cents per ounces. Just comparing to some of the others -- The Island charges $0.40 per oz. versus Tower Grove Creamery charges $0.44, and Froyo in CWE charges $0.42 per oz. While technically I live in walking distance to this new frozen yogurt spot, it requires me to cross Gravois on foot and then avoid the panhandlers that greet all visitors to Soulard at Midwest Petroleum. I have a four year old so I put the kiddo in the car and drove 4 blocks. I forgot it was Saturday night and almost changed my mind when travelling all of one block down Russel into the island I had already been cut off by a golf cart driven by a native and then dealt with all those Honda Accords from the county unloading their passengers in the bike lane in front of McGurks. When we got to the shop there was no parking so I went off roading in that big elevated lot right next door(I don't know if you are supposed to park there, but we did). Lots of people outside enjoying their purchases, good sign. Get inside and it is really nicely done. Tropical decor of course, a wall of machines and a nice little topping bar area. 8 unique flavors, root beer float, key lime pie, cheesecake, acai berry, cake, that is all I can remember. We got root beer float and key lime pie. I added some coconut and then my daughter teed off on the topping bar. Cherries, sprinkles, chocolate chips, all I could see were mounting ounces to be added to our bill. I blacked out. I somehow managed to get our two selections to the weigh station/cash register. $5.50, what a deal! I immediately came to and we happily ate our dessert outside(which was delicious). As someone who doesn't normally eat frozen yogurt over traditional ice cream, I can honestly say I will be coming back to The Island whenever I have a craving for something sweet. I had a mix of chocolate milkshake and yellow cake, and topped it with fruity pebbles (which I have not been able to find at any other Frozen Yogurt place in town!) and reeses. Yum. Don't get me wrong, The Island is cute. It's an adorable tropical-themed froyo shop in the heart of Soulard, and if you want to stay in the city, it's one of your only options. Let me take a moment to NOT be a food snob and say that The Island isn't THAT awful. They have a pretty decent variety of flavors (even though vanilla was one of the only ones I could choke down, and YES, I sampled every flavor...#fatty). The service was fantastic (the guy working the day I visited? I want to squeeze him into my pocket and take him home with me). And the price was reasonable. But back to the froyo itself. It had a weird consistency. Almost icy. It's such a far cry from the sweet, rich, velvety, DELICIOUS froyo that Yogurtland (or Red Mango, or Orange Leaf) serves. I find it hard to believe that the other reviewers went to the same place as I did. This is definitely the worst frozen yogurt place I have been to in St. Louis - and I have been to many. They didn't have nearly the flavor options of other places (though they were somewhat unique), the yogurt itself didn't taste that great, there weren't a lot of toppings (and those that they had did not look fresh and plentiful), and the store itself did not seem nearly as clean as the other stores in St. Louis. Please, please, please, if you think this is great or even good frozen yogurt, check out one of the other places in St. Louis. As a Californian, I love my fro yo, and I miss Yogurtland more than I can express, but The Island hits the spot well enough. Many of the flavors don't quite reach what they proclaim to be, tasting instead like nondescriptly sweet frozen stuff, but that's what the sample cups are for, and the flavors rotate frequently. The toppings selection is pretty nifty, including a range of crushed candy bars, fruits, cereals, cookies, cookie dough bites, brownie bites, and more. But who am I kidding? Half the time, I get fro yo as an excuse to load up on cookie dough bites anyway, so The Island pretty much had me sold on that. I've never tried the boozy slushies, though, because I live so close to Trops. read more
