I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Spoons Cafe. My party of 4 got there around 10:15am on a Saturday morning and had to wait about 30 mins to be seated since it's a small cafe. We had no issues finding street parking and it was pretty cheap for Baltimore ($3 for a few hours). The coffee was delicious and is unlimited during your visit (you can even take a to go cup as you leave!). For food my friend and I got the Parmesan crusted spinach omelette which was very tasty. Our S/O's got the 2-2-2 and the stuffed French toast which they enjoyed as well. Service was a little slow but they were pretty busy so it's understandable. We were visiting friends in Baltimore when they recommended Spoons, because they saw on their website they were vegan-friendly and we're vegan. Our friends were so kind to do research to find a vegan-friendly place, because they're not vegan and wanted to make sure we went somewhere with options for us. Clearly marked on the main page of the Spoons website was "vegan options," so we headed there with excitement. When we arrived, the server gave us plastic cups for water, which is a sign a restaurant does not care about the environment whatsoever. This was a disappointment right off the bat, but nothing compared to what was to come. When we asked about vegan options, the server had no idea what was available, which wasn't a great look. The owner or manager happened to be sitting at the bar working on her computer next to the table we were sitting at so the server asked her what vegan options there were. She bluntly and quite rudely said, "We have nothing vegan." I let her know that her website said "vegan options" and she said, "I would never put that on there." My friend chimed in and said softly, "Actually, sorry, it is on there, which is why we picked this place." The lady said with aggression, "I would never put that on there." It was a VERY nasty tone. I told her I could pull up her website and show her, which I did so she was aware of the information we were claiming. I showed her that it said, "Vegan options" and she aggressively said, "I didn't put that on there, I don't know how it got on there." There was no orientation for our customer experience at all during this interaction. Nothing like "I'm so sorry for the misleading information, that's a mistake" or "I'm so sorry you came all this way, we can try to put something together" or "I'm so sorry that's on there" etc etc -- ANYTHING would have been better than how she spoke to us. She then whipped around and said, "I'll change that right now." She seemed to care far more about what the website said than us, customers willing to give her business, right in front of her. She didn't apologise, offer any creative alternatives, speak to the chef, or suggest that we might want to consider going somewhere else to find something satisfactory -- basically to take ownership of this mistake and try to make it right for all of our efforts to come to her establishment. We were visiting from New Zealand, so we had high customer service expectations of the US as the US always over-delivers on service. This woman was so rude that we just got up and left without saying another word. The server did absolutely nothing either and just let us walk out without apologising or saying anything to us. We were gobsmacked. She was SO rude that it was worth sitting down to write this full review. I was so disappointed by her treatment -- as the owner/manager!!! -- that I would warn you from visiting this establishment. We have since checked the website and it says something like "We've got something for everyone" AND THEY DON'T!!! One more thing to add is that we visited with our new baby and they did not have a changing table in the bathroom. This makes a massive difference for parents. My partner had to change the baby on the bathroom floor!! If you're vegan or just want a good customer experience, DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE!!!! They don't deserve your business!!! I have been here 3 times (all for brunch) but came here today for the first time since joining Yelp. The previous two times were fantastic, so I was excited for another visit. There seemed to be a long wait based on how many people were waiting near the front, but we got seated right away as there were only 2 of us. The staff is friendly and professional, checking in frequently enough that you don't feel like you're waiting around for a while. I ordered a hot chocolate and the Huevos Verdes. The hot chocolate tasted like it was made from scratch, and not just some powder and hot water. It was hot, rich and delicious - perfect for a cold day. The Huevos Verdes tasted good, but didn't stack up to the previous two courses I had gotten from here. The potatoes served with the dish could've been more heavily seasoned, but they were cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and soft inside. The Huevos Verdes was two grilled tortillas topped with black bean chili, Mexican cheese, two eggs any style and salsa verde. The tortillas became soggy under the chili and salsa, and the salsa didn't have enough brightness to it in my opinion. There was nothing in it that really made the flavor of the dish pop, but it was still a tasty brunch entrée. I still haven't been disappointed by Spoons for brunch. The service is good and the food is delicious at a price that doesn't break the bank. It is also at a great location on Cross Street, so you can walk around after brunch to grab a drink or visit some shops. read more

Delicious food and friendly service, but examine your bill carefully!! My boyfriend and I had a great brunch here this morning. He loved his Hangtown Fry and my Risotto Benedict was absolutely spectacular. However, we were in for a huge shock when we got our bill. Two breakfasts, two coffees, and two bags of whole bean coffee came to $91!! Upon closer inspection, we saw that our (already pricey) meals were each $1 more expensive than what the menu said, and we'd each been charged $1 for the fruit cup sides we thought came with our meals. The bags of coffee, which we were told were $14, had been charged as $16 each. On top of that, Spoons automatically added in an 18% gratuity (after tax) for a party of two. We didn't notice the problems until after our card had been run, and we were anxious to get on with our day, so we didn't dispute the charges. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations and they're only open till 2pm. Fortunately, I came on a weekday (both times) so there was no wait. First time my friend and I split the short stack of buttermilk pancakes which were very good and the 3B Burger which was AMAZING! The second time I got the burger again. It contains pork and bacon (which I didn't taste the latter) spinach and a fried egg. You definitely dont need ketchup on this... instead however try it with the green hot sauce (not really hot). This also came with home fries which were ok, but the burgers the star. First time I got the grapefruit thyme mimosa which was good but I could barely taste the thyme. Second time I got the latte with vanilla syrup which after having them but a bit more syrup (I couldnt taste it at first) was really good. Anyway I recommend this place. read more

Such a lucky find! I was trying to figure out where to grab breakfast while in Baltimore and this spot popped up. I hadn't heard about it before leaving and I feel like it was kismet that I found it. The menu had some truly awesome items and I went for the risotto cake eggs Benedict which was absolutely fantastic. We also shared a biscuit with sausage gravy (trust me, share it) and my only regret is being too full to finish it. The coffee was great, too! They had outdoor seating as well as indoor. There was a wait but it ended up being less than originally stated. They take reservations so if you want to go, get on the list. Cross Street Market is right there as well so you can check that out while you wait. I can't wait to go back and explore this neighborhood more! read more

Spoons has been on my "restaurant bucket list" since I moved to Baltimore nearly a year ago, and it did not disappoint! I knew from a prior attempt to go for Sunday brunch that the wait would likely be 45 minutes to be seated, but they have a great text to notify system, and I'd recommend walking across the street to the Cross Street Market for a cup of coffee while you wait. I ordered the Risotto Benedict which was absolutely amazing! Only reason I'm not giving a final 5th star is because the servers were inconsistent. My table never saw the same waitress twice, and therefore we had to ask for forgotten items multiple times. Once requested, they were prompt though. The back of the menu does warn that for Saturday and Sunday brunch, it is not uncommon to wait ~30 minutes to be served your food. This was part of my experience, but I expected it and it did not impact my experience. I did appreciate the transparency and forewarning. read more

Came upon Spoons from a recommendation by one of the locals for a brunch place within walking distance. It was around noon time when I finally stumbled upon the small sign in this historic Federal Hill section of the city. Spoons is a small, eclectic coffee shop with a small amount of seating, small menu, and small portions. Starting to see a pattern here? There is nothing remarkable about the food they serve. Breakfast is available all day (until 3 pm that is). The menu changes at 11 am from a full breakfast menu to a shortened one with lunch options. I ordered the "Greasy Spoon" for $9 that included eggs, home fries, toast, and bacon. For the amount they served on the plate. . . it was definitely not worth the $9 spent. They have a nice selection of drinks to choose from, though I did not partake in their coffee as I am not one to drink it. If I lived in the area I can't say that I would return here for breakfast, nothing too special or too bad about the place. read more

I really enjoyed the parmesan crust - it added a delightfully crispy texture to balance out the softness of the omelette, and was also very savory and delicious. The rest of the omelette was fine but not particularly memorable (i.e. once I inevitably finished the parmesan crust faster than the omelette, it wasn't nearly as good). Service was good - polite and efficient. Will definitely consider returning - need to finally give the beast a try! read more

I thought I had had the best cinnamon pancakes at Broadway Diner but I was wrong, these are spectacular! You have the option to put bacon inside which may have set them ahead. My husband got the 3B burger which he said is one of the best he has had in bmore. It looks a little pricey at $16 but so worth every penny. We found out that this cute cafe in Fed closed early at 1 today when we walked in at 12:30...but the staff was so sweet and let us order and did not make us feel rushed. We cannot wait to come back and spend more time sipping lattes and eating pancakes, chicken & waffles, burgers or any number of delicious sounding things on their menu. On a Saturday at 1pm the place was packed, but there was one open table and we were seated within minutes of entering the restaurant Our waitress greeted us almost immediately and took our drink orders. I decided on their iced matcha latte with coconut milk. Wasn't a fan of it and our waitress didn't hesitate to bring me an iced mocha when I asked. Much better! It wasn't too chocolaty and gave me just the right amount of pick me up that I was looking for. I also tried one of their coffee cocktails that included rumchata, espresso, and eggnog and enjoyed it. Probably could have drank two of these. Couldn't decide between The Beast and deep-fried sweet cream stuffed French toast, so we ended up sharing it. Definitely was a good decision to share so I could get a taste of something savory and sweet. The Beast was appropriately named as it is beasty. The buttermilk biscuit was fluffy, flaky, and buttery. The fried chicken was flavorful and huge. Topped with bacon, cheese, and a fried egg, and smothered with sausage gravy, this sandwich is definitely rich and heavy. The Beast is pretty when it comes out, but your plate will end up looking like a hot mess as you devour it. The stuffed french toast was also really good. The sweet cream had a lemon flavor, which I was pleasantly surprised by. It was deep fried nicely and came out nice and fluffy. The french toast doesn't really need any syrup, but if you do decide to add some, be careful while pouring it. I ended up with a plate full of syrup. Opps! Luckily I had an extra plate to place my french toast on. Note they don't have a separate kid's menu. However, C was happy with a side of fries and bacon. Come on now, who wouldn't be?! Spoons Cafe is a solid place to come to for brunch. It's a short walk from the Inner Harbor, so I'll be back. They have quite a few items on their menu that I want to try! read more

I'm sure the food is good, but didn't get to try it. We missed our reservation waiting for our entire party so changed it to later time no problem. Half of our party showed up to a half empty restaurant and the host said she would message us when our table was ready (estimated 30 mins). We walked across the street to have a drink and within 5 mins got a message that our table was ready and had 10 minutes to arrive. We finished our drinks and arrived 12 minutes after the message; the host was literally outside walking towards us as we arrived lol. She informed us that we didn't hit our 10 minute window so they could not seat us and were closing. It was 1:35 and they closed the kitchen at 2:00. I actually stumbled upon Spoons by fate. My initial plan was to go to Blue Moon 2, but the wait was ridiculously long, so after checking out the pics on Yelp, I walked here and I'm soooooo glad I did! Spoons was great! The restaurant just felt cozy on this particular day I visited. The dining area isn't huge but it's large enough to accommodate at least 50 people. The day I visited, there wasn't a wait at all. I was promptly seated and given sufficient time to review the menu. I had the cinnamon roll pancakes- I should probably preface the second half of my review by noting I'm not a huge pancake fan, but the pictures of the cinnamon roll pancakes drew me in. I've been dreaming about these dang pancakes ever since y'all. They're freaking perfect. Not too thick, just fluffy enough, and there's a candied/crunchy trail the caramelized cinnamon swirl leaves throughout the pancake. I seriously cannot wait to go back to Baltimore to have these again. I also tried "The Beast" which is a behemoth, smothered, breakfast sandwich. Inside this perfect biscuit sandwich has bacon, fried chicken, egg, and is smothered in this super rich biscuit gravy. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. Such a great spot for bunch!! I've lived in the Baltimore area for several years and always heard people talk about Spoons but I had never been. My husband made us a reservation online because we did attempt to go as a walk in the weekend prior but the wait was about 45 minutes and we were too hungry to wait so I recommend making an appointment online! I started off with the honey cinnamon oat latte and it was so delicious, not too sweet- just how I like it! Picking an entree was difficult because everything sounded so good!! I ended up ordering the risotto Benedict which is 2 fried risotto cakes with prosciutto and classic poached eggs and hollandaise. So freaking good!! I also had the pineapple and jalapeño mimosa which was very good and refreshing. My husband ordered the fried oysters and grits and it was so yummy too!! The pictures of Spoons Cafe's decadent menu options caught my eye. My friend and I found parking in Fed Hill quite easily only a block away on a Saturday morning. The wait time was 20 to 30 minutes. The cheerful hostess surely enough texted me 20 minutes later that our table was ready! The restaurant was homey and casual and bustling with dozens of brunch goers. Our server was very attentive and quick. The two menu items that peaked our interest were the cinnamon roll pancakes and the BEAST sandwich. The pancakes were described as "some of the BEST" my friend has ever had! They were sweet but not overpowering. The presentation was not as good as some of the pictures we've seen but the taste was up there! The BEAST sandwich with fried chicken, bacon and sausage gravy was delicious. The blend of different tastes and textures was great! I've had better biscuits in the past but that may be because I've lived in the south. Overall, I could see this becoming one of my go-to Baltimore brunch spots! I look forward to exploring their menu some more! read more

My wife and I have been here a handful of times. The 2nd time we came at 1:45 and expected to get something to eat. The host said "we are closed". But the sign says 2:00 closing. If you're planning on closing early. That should be stated somewhere. We drive from Silver Spring to get there and most restaurants stop closing at the said time. 3rd time we went there. My wife wanted to order something to go. The host said "We don't do to go orders when we are busy". At that point my wife went somewhere else and got a great breakfast and they have lost us as customers. You don't pick and choose when you do carryout. That's something I have never heard of.
