May, 2021- still an amazing place. Amazing place. The little things are nice. You will be greeted when you walk in. They accept and keep to reservations (done via google). Spicy means kinda spicy. The blaring 80's music and music videos gives it the right amount of levity. Since January of '21, the menu has evolved a bit. A little seasonal flare for summer, some new apps, and variations of the existing staples from grand opening time. If dining in, you must must must get the dolsat. The scorching hot stone pot sizzles long into your meal. And for those who like the crunchy rice bits, you'll find them on the bottom. Looks like the barber shop moved too which made parking a bit easier, but I still feel a little bad for the neighboring side streets serving as on-street parking spillover. Easily a five star place. As I warm up my leftovers for breakfast, I'm having such a great memory of last nights meal. The inside is absolutely beautiful. As we were sitting, saw six orders of takeout. The only problem with this place is that the front door kept opening and it was cold because people are in the vestibule holding the door open, and the door closes really slowly when not held open. Also, there are only four parking spots in the lot, as the barber shop claims the other side. So I'm not sure where else one would park here. Gripes aside, Spoonsticks is going to do just fine. It's a great restaurant, with a great menu, and a big dining room, in an otherwise Korean-less area (not completely of course - however, there isn't anything like Spoonsticks without going to Queens). Our server Hoonah was incredible, she was very helpful in getting in our orders. We started with appetizers - seafood pancake, hash potato jeon, Korean spicy chicken wings, Kim-chi, and pork buns for all. Everything was standout. In fact, my date said the pork buns were "life-changing" and shes's a pork bun snob. They were gigantic with a huge slab of marinated, tender, flavorful pork, complimented with pickled onion, lettuce and a drizzle of sauce. Not sure why they aren't listed as "boa" on the menu, but whatever. We each ordered an entree (maybe a mistake, however was thankful for breakfast today). The kids each had Tonkotsu with pork belly AND short rib (not vegetarians). It was incredible. The beef was so tender and delicious. And the broth with noodles was so flavorful. They each added an egg (looked like a day-old egg). And there were some battered shrimp in the dish which was a pleasant surprise. The dolsot bibimbap was really incredible too. Battered tofu surrounded by a melee of vegetables and noodles. The bulgogi dolsot was also incredible. Dolsot entrees simply mean they are served in a stone pot. They keep the heat, and boy do I like meal that burns my mouth! The sizzling skillets kept the meal warm the entire time, and I don't think I would ever order them takeout. Hoonah mixed up the dolsot with your choosing of spicy-ness which comes on the side (it's not too spicy, pretty sweet too). I went with the fire chicken tantanmen, Hoonah warned me it's spicy - "bring it on". The broth was very spicy, black pepper, red curry, and hints of coconut. The chicken was grounded up and it was really delicious. Spicy? Yea, but manageable. The flavors were layered so it wasn't just spice. To top everything off, I got a happy birthday desert, ice cream and green tea cheesecake! Definitely, DEFINITELY, try the green tea cheesecake. I would have never ordered it, but when it was brought over, we couldn't stop eating it - and in fact, we ordered a second helping. During pandemic times, social distancing was in effect, there were only a few tables spaced apart, and as a family that is covid cautious, we felt safe here. Please do try this place, I wish it would be kept a secret, but I'm sure the secret is out and we will all have a rough time getting in. read more

Love this food and cannot wait to try more dishes. We got a whole bunch of stuff - mandoo, tofu bibimbap, wings and beef with extra fried rice. Everything was so tasty' the tofu was slightly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Lots of veggies and a perfect runny egg. The beef galbi with lots of onions was great. The fried rice with pork was good too. The wings were crispy even after a 20 min drive home. The only thing that I didn't love were the mandoo. Waitress was sweet and gave us a full explanation of items on the menu since one of us was a first timer. Limited choices but enough for everyone. They have Ramen bowls also. Food comes out quickly, hot and fresh. Yuzu salad was mostly iceberg lettuce but menu stated cabbage. Don't think it was worth the price. Bulgogi gives a large portion of thinly sliced meat. Be prepared to get messy since you eat it as lettuce wraps. Get extra napkins first. You need to ask for water refills.. Table turnover is quick. Busy takeout and to go orders. I've visited this restaurant twice in the past two weeks, and yes! It's that good. Both times I've went around the beginning of dinner hour. I was greeted and seated promptly. Service is very good. I had the same server both times. He also made great recommendations. I have had the Tantanmen Ramen, Shio Ramen, Korean fried chicken wings w/sweet and sour spicy sauce, blue lemonade, and apple mango soju. Everything was delicious! Chicken wings were fresh, fried perfectly crispy, and seasoned to perfection. Of the two Ramens, I preferred the Tantanmen because I love spicy. Also, please order a side of kimchi. It is definitely necessary, and add an extra topping of their marinated button mushrooms. You won't be disappointed! This will definitely become a regular spot for me. read more

I've wanted to try this place for a long time. I love Korean food and I was really craving some Korean chicken wings. One thing that deterred me from trying them earlier are their prices. I would consider them to be expensive. We ordered take-out and got the 6 piece original spicy & sweet wings and the 6 piece spicy wings. We also got the spicy miso ramen for the cold night. We ordered online, and got the confirmation by text. The order was ready in about 15 mins. We went there to pick up our order expecting a parking lot. But their parking lot was really small only fitting about 5 cars, with a shared parking lot with the barber shop next door. So my friend stayed in the car and left it on in the barber shop parking lot, while I ran in to grab our order. The staff were friendly and got my order right away when I arrived. The order was ready when I arrived. When we got home we immediately dug into the wings, they were hot and crispy. I noticed that they put the spicy sauce aside for the spicy wings, so the spicy wings were really crispy. But they had already coated the sweet & spicy wings with the sauce making the chicken a bit soggy. I feel like they should have also put the spicy & sweet sauce aside. But the chicken was very tasty. Next we tried the spicy miso ramen. The ramen was a bit hard to eat. The noodles all stuck together, so we were left with a big noodle cake. So we ended up taking all the noodles and dunking the while thing into the beoth container and mixing it around vigorously so break up the noodles and then pour them back into the ramen bowl. The ramen wasn't that good, and the spice level was a bit strange. It didn't taste spicy, but you could feel the spice on your lips and throat. The ramen I would say wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either to be worth $19. I would probably come again to try some other food items. I think the ramen was a bit of an afterthought rather than a main menu item. read more

Yummy! Here I sit on a rainy cold day in October. My first taste of apple Soju has been amazing as it goes down so smooth. I had the chicken bun as an appetizer and it was perfect mix of crispy and the soft bun. It was smack you mother delicious! Love the buns!! It became my favorite and all kids love it too. We had the Korean style chicken wing and it was so crispy and spicy enough to enjoy~ The main dish for us was Tonkotsu ramen! So it's frustrating because it was my first time and I saw a spot and had no idea until I fought traffic to get into the lot that I couldn't use it. The food is great. I only tried one thing. The cheesy brisket with the tteok bok ti. Something like that. It was spicy and sweet at the same time and so cheesy. It was yummy and I recommend it. The staff was friendly. We were unfamiliar with the menu items so we got a little of everything: fried dumplings, spicy sauce fried dumplings, corn dog, one of each bun, a pork lunch box, and kimchi fried rice. I really liked this Korean place! It's relatively new to Massapequa, right next to some of the best sushi in Massapequa. Definitely try to park on the side streets because the parking lot is pretty small and very busy. Me and my best friend walked in on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed! We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar, thankfully there were a couple of spots. I recommend making a reservation though. They have an extensive menu with lots of different options! Personally I got the beef japchae, because those noodles are my favorite. They were delicious! The portion was pretty big so I took it home. Food taste pretty authentic to the Korean food in Flushing. We got the garlic soy fried chicken, Karage Chicken Bibimbap, beef bulgogi and the pork bun. The fried chicken had the flavors close to max for chicken but the batter is crispier and thicker. The beef bulgogi sauce was not too sweet and the bibimbap is the perfect comfort food. I absolutely loved spoonsticks. I will just start off with the one negative experience of the night, the brown sugar bubble tea. It was $8 and frankly, disgusting. I really, really don't recommend. It tasted weird and the pearls were rock hard. That being said, everything else was amazing. A little expensive, but the food really is worth it. Everyone was delighted with their meals. I had the L.A galbi and it was amazing. Juicy, flavorful, loved it. The honey edamame was good, I also really enjoyed the monkey ball. Definitely want to come back and try more from them! read more

I give this place 5 stars and we are going to put a happy little yum right here and a happy little yum over here and another right about here! The other 5 star reviews were not lying! We started off with drinks. I got a lychee bubble something or other which was over the top sweet and had popping boba in it. Very pretty, but for me, just too sweet. Next time I will try something else. Then we had the spicy bok choy kimchi salad, it was very tasty, spicy but not too spicy. The dressing had heat but it also had a lot of flavor. I would order it again. Next came the tofu bun which they thoughtfully cut in 1/2. The tofu bun was just so (chefs kiss) perfect. I loved it and if anyone asks me what food I could live off of for the rest of my life, this would be it! Honestly, If I could have a meal of just these, I would and I might! I also got the veg japchae, it was delicious. Slippery noodles + metal chopsticks made eating it a little awkward but I survived. The restaurant got crowded so either come on the early side or make a reservation but if you are on the fence about trying this place, I'll give you a shove over to YES.
