However, food here is pretty solid & for a local sushi joint... It actually works. Ambience is cozy & the owner Jason was very nice--even giving me a white pear tini (yummy) on the house after introducing himself. We ordered 4-5 of the special rolls (try the Lobster Mango & Rainbow Roll), a pad Thai (solid), edamame, gyoza, along with soup and salads for the five (including a toddler) of us. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place yet. I've been going since 2007/2008! After 10+ years of service, they definitely deserve a 5 star review from me! I've done both take out and dine-in for sushi, and the food is always delicious and fresh. I've always received great service for both experiences. The workers always greet me with a smile and always welcome me and say hello. My two favorite sushi rolls are the LI roll and the double salmon roll. I've been getting both these rolls since 2008. Clearly I'm a creature of habit. I do enjoy other rolls such as the pink lady, and spicy 2 in 1 roll. My boyfriend who is simple enjoys the avocado cucumber roll, spicy salmon roll and spicy tuna roll. The last two times I've ordered take out I was given a free small appetizer! I'm not completely sure what it was, but it tasted and looked like a fried crab roll. Looking at their menu, I believe it was, "Special soft shell crab." Which is fried soft shell crab with special chef's sauce. It was super delicious! This is by far my favorite local sushi place. I love this place so much and am so grateful it's just down the road from my family's home. The vegetable sushi plate was incredibly varied, beautiful and delicious. I have honestly never seen Japanese pickled veggies and roasted squash so elegantly assembled. For the first time, it even quelled the jealousy I often feel now at sushi restaurants since I went vegan. Major feat considering sushi was my favorite food since age 14 and was the last animal product I gave up. We also enjoyed some steamed vegetable dumplings with a vinegar based sauce and my partner had a fried shrimp entree with chili and mango that came on a heaping pile of rice and steamed broccoli. Robata was OK, but were were looking for Delicious. We tried to pre-order to meet our 1 hr Lunch Break but were told we could not but they would rush our order when we arrive. We arrived and they apologized stating a miscommunication and that they do pre-orders. They sent over a deep fried Cream Cheese and Crab roll on the house. This was appreciated. They even let us use our 10% off Yelp Check in coupon. The majority of us ordered the 2 Rolls - (Maki Lunch Special). I ordered the Godzilla Roll & Spicy Crunch Tuna Roll. For $9 you get Miso soup, an AWESOME salad (the dressing was so good!) and 2 rolls. About 1/3 of the lunch menu were Specialty rolls, impressive. The sushi was very good. The Rice outside was roll was thin and the filling the dominant player in this roll. I've had better Cruncy Spicy Tuna rolls but at $9, this deal can't be beat! I've visited here a few times before and a couple of times for lunch after management change. The service is pretty slow, even when there are only few tables occupied. The waitresses are not good at explaining the menu, nor is the menu particularly informative, as many of the items listed are no longer offered. Their decor tries to be ambient but just ends up feeling cold, dirty, and dark. The plates are pretty, so I could tell there had been some effort in trying to keep the place classy. Their hot food has gone way down the hill. I've had the seafood and tempura udon, chicken teriyaki, pho, and sukiyaki. None taste better than what I could get prepackaged at a supermarket. Though they're not terrible, their rolls used to be much better. It's overpriced and honestly what they do well relies entirely on frying and heavy sauces. I got fresh fish once here and swore off it because it tasted so old. They're in a pretty good location, a busy corner mall on Old Country, but the parking is difficult, even with additional spaces in the back. It's really only an appropriate place to come if you are with friends, you want some heavily dressed Ameritrash "sushi" and cocktails and don't want to bother looking for a better place. read more

So I came here after a long day of work and I was hungry. Hungry enough to bite the head off a chicken, or munch on its wings. The spicy mayo was mediocre, but the fish looked and tasted fresh - like they just wheeled this bad boy in 45 minutes before I got there (keep in mind my gold standard is sushi bell in bayside) At least their soy sauce was good - definitely of the kikkoman brand, I know because I can tell...not like inexperienced yelpers or the wannabes My friend and I also shared - steak, chicken teriyaki. The steak was well cooked, just too sweet sauce. I liked the chicken better, except for the raw pieces - it was raw like a cheetah biting into a zebra's butt cheek raw. My friend agreed...fortunately these were confined to the bigger pieces in the middle. Eh. I must also comment that the diet coke was clearly fountain with improper syrup and carbonation - too little of both. No lemon either - what the h@ll is wrong with the world today? I was ready to go monkey sh$t on the place! The only saving grace was when I checked in here on yelp (on my quest to be a yelp master), I received a 10% redeem now coupon. Since it was during lunch time I ordered the Bento Box lunch special. This is what came inside: -Chicken Teriyaki: YUM. Unlike other places, this chicken wasn't greasy. It was well-cooked and seasoned just enough. I also liked how they gave me white meat. It's drizzled with a thick sauce and over a bed of steamed veggies. -They give you a choice of a side and I got Goyza- (dumplings) they were great steamed! -There was also a choice of roll: (Frence, California, Vegetable) I got the Frence which was: crab meat, avocado and shrimp tempura.... let me just say. I'm not the biggest sushi fan but WOW this was excellent. I never thought of putting tempura pieces in a roll! Bravo. -It also comes with miso soup (not too salty, just right) and ginger salad. (The dressing was creamy and just the right amount of zing.) -And white rice, a staple. I always ask for green tea when I go to Japanese restaurants. This tea was piping hot, and full of flavor. I'm such a sucker for a nice cup of this stuff. From my post you can obviously tell that when I was done with this meal I was stuffed. Located in a busy shopping center is a little asian-fusion place, where my parents and I had an overall positive experience. First of all, the food is pretty good. I would definitely consider it a dive sushi spot or hole in the wall which is cool sometimes.The ambiance is some what of a comfortable contemporary vibe as my mom said it's "spa-like". The staff is overall very friendly and definitely putting a solid effort to provide a comfortable/pleasant setting. There is a small bar on the right when you walk in, that is pretty much use-less and should just done-away. Or they need to hire Jon Tapper from the show Bar Rescue. Even as a recovering alcoholic a drink at the bar or table did not look appetizing. The Gyozi Soup was perfect on a cold day, and I would probably stop here for that alone. I also really enjoyed the salad with ginger dressing that came with the Tri-Color Sushi meal. The sushi was average and definitely not the freshest I have ever had. The sushi pizza was ok. Our party agreed we would come back again if in the area, but would not make a special trip to make a visit. I have recently been eating more fish after eating vegetarian for around four years or so. I've been trying different Sushi restaurants around town and I have to say the sushi-grade fish at Hama is the most flavorful. I ordered a spicy crunchy yellowtail roll and a salmon skin roll while my companion opted for the TNT roll along with two pieces of salmon sushi (because salmon is his favorite).
