However, the poor service has unfortunately discouraged me from returning. During my last visit, I informed the staff that I was there for a pickup order, provided my name, phone number, and details of my order. Despite that, she was acting like she didn't believe me. I even showed her my phone to confirm and she tried to start scrolling on my phone which is where I drew the line. We placed an order over the phone to try it out: the chicken and shrimp teriyaki with noodles and no veggies. The kids absolutely loved it! The service was just okay. I stood there for about two minutes before being greeted, even though the staff was right at the front. Japan Express is at a good location and this was our first visit. The prices are low and there are many items on their menu to choose from. We made our order by speaking through a microphone/speaker mounted into a large clear plastic window. It was difficult to communicate and understand the limited English spoken by the cooks. We did not have a good iead of what to order and settled on 3 different sushi rolls. The sushi and condiments were less than average. The Alaska salmon roll contained something like a mushy salmon paste. It seems like this is more of a take out place although we were sitting down, serving ourselves. There may be better choices on the menu, but we will not be coming back to try and figure that out. read more

My first time visiting at Japan Express. It is very clean & Covid safety rules are being followed. I asked the lady behind the counter what is the favorite dish and she recommended chicken and shrimp. It was delicious, the chicken was tender and thin and the shrimps were perfect size & amount. The prior yelper said it was not enough, I think they correct that problem. It was plentiful. They could use a little extra Teriyaki sauce to use for the white rice. Freshly new to Plainview in Morton Village! I saw the "coming soon" sign for months prior to covid. I'm more than positive covid had a hand in delaying the opening. I was happy to hear they they were finally opened! After looking at the menu I decided on some sushi and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was delectable! There was some cucumber at the bottom, which was a nice surprise and paired very well with the seaweed. Had a very nice flavor! For my sushi roll I decided on the Spicy Girl Roll. It was fresh and flavorful. Prices are extremely reasonable compared to other places not just in the area, but compared to most places as a whole. My only complaint is the "waiting time." I called in my order and was told 10 minutes. It turned into almost 30 minutes for my order, and nothing had to be cooked. I also ordered miso soup, which I didn't get in my order at pickup, but I wasn't charged for it either. Flavors and prices are very reasonable and I will return. read more

The chicken teriyaki, either over white rice or noodles, is my go-to order. While the dish is simple, the meat is extremely flavorful, with bits and pieces of burnt edges, adding a variety of textures and smokiness to the rice. They also serve the rice box with a generous amount of vegetables, making it a fairly well-balanced meal. My family's tried the beef, shrimp and seafood teriyaki and have no complaints either. I commend any restaurant for having the guts to launch under the current conditions, but the same basic rules apply now as they did before COVID. I was attracted by the low sushi prices compared with my usual spot and thought to give them a try. I ordered online and showed up at the time I was told the food would be ready. After waiting 15 min beyond the "ready" time, I left with what I thought was my food, only to get home and realize the sushi I was given in my party platter was about 50% right. One might argue that part of that is on me for not checking before walking out (though honestly, waiting another 15 min for them to correct it wasn't in the cards), and I might have been able to accept that if the quality of food was good enough to offset being given the w. I'd say the quality is perhaps on par with sushi one would find at a local supermarket who offers it. Lateness + getting the order wrong + subpar quality is not a winning combo. I always like to update my review as time goes on because places can change. Initially when they opened the food was a slam dunk simply great. As Time has gone on it seems the quality is slipping a bit. The sushi is not as good as it was and many times mustard or even soy sauce is forgotten with the order. Opening in the middle of a pandemic takes guts. What was supposed to be a normal take out place with a grand opening of 5 months ago or more has morphed in to a Japanese/sushi/teriyaki hot spot. Grand opening was last week to great reviews by non Yelp local people. Definitely following Covid guidelines setting up the place must have been a nightmare with changing rules every few weeks. But they got it right with plenty of room for social distancing while waiting for pick up or ordering and sheets of plastic along the whole counter one of the benefits of which is a big window in to the kitchen. The people back there are working hard on the orders. Equally important as the safety of the food is the food itself. Bento boxes were generous and inexpensive as were the sushi rolls. We ordered a beef and a shrimp bento box and loved them both for the $9 cost of each. I also had a yellowtail jalapeno roll that hit the right amount of heat matched to the coolness of the fish. 99% take out with a small seating area to the side and an outdoor table. We decided to do something different, and weren't sure what to expect. You know what? The bento box was really good! While the sushi wasn't on the same level of a more traditional Japanese restaurant, it was pretty solid - fish tasted fresh. The seaweed salad and crab salad were pretty darn close to what we get at Kumo. As for the cooked dishes, we were really happy. Finished everything, felt satisfied, and are already planning to order from them again. Definitely a win! read more

The food was so delicious! Took away one star because the wait time was crazy. They told me 15 minutes and I arrived at the 25 minute mark and still waited another 20 minutes. They were working very hard in the back though to get all orders done. The chicken teriyaki reminds me of a similar place I used to go to in Manhattan called teriyaki boy...really miss that place.
