Been coming here since I was a little kid growing up in the neighborhood. Moved away, and every time I come back to town it tastes just like I remember. Best burger anywhere. They don't remember my order like they used to (because I come once every few years instead of weekly) and it's not home of the 99 cent cheeseburger like it used to be but if we're being honest it was always worth more than that anyway. I have been a loyal Sport Burger fan for about four years and recently have seen a drastic decline in the level of service and an increase in receiving incorrect orders after watiing inline for 65 minutes. My most recent visit on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, took 65 minutes waiting in line to place and recieve my order. The service was much slower than usual with only four cars in front of me. I placed my ususal order for a bacon cheese burger combo, onion rings (w/up-charge) and a strawberry soda. My toppings were well done grilled onions, mustard, cheese, lettuce and tomato and bacon. I repeated my order twice to verify it with the cashier. Here's the rating on my order once as recieved: Burger: nearly burned, dry like a hockey puck. Toppings: Onion not grilled and still white & crunchy; bacon was greasy and not crispy; mustard - NONE, lettuce - NONE, tomato - NONE Strawberry soda: Can was nice and cold Onion rings: Flavorful and crispy I normally would not complain, but to wait 65 minutes in-line and then recieve my order with the WORST burger I have ever had was disappointing to say the least. I would have returned for a replacement burger, but I live 30 minutes away from Sport Burger. To add insult to injury I gave the cashier a $3.00 tip! Perhaps Sport Burger needs to pay closer attention to getting the customers orders right and get their burger quality back to where it was in the years past. I will no longer patronize the business as a result, its a shame becuase they were my number one burger joint in Wichita. read more

Complete and utterly disappointed. Upon arriving at this establishment, I waited on a city streets because there is not a drive way long enough to allow customers to pull into. Waiting close to a half hour just the order is ridiculous! When I finally got to order, I was not pleased that the pricing has changed. What happened to the slogan "Home of the 99¢ Cheeseburgers!" ? When you order at any other fast food location, you get a receipt of your purchase. Well, not here! Upon ordering, (I ordered the #1-Home Run meal which comes with a burger, fries and a drink), I was told that my total would be calculated at the window. Is there something wrong with the POS machine that I cannot receive a total at the end of my order? So, there I sit watching my temperature gauge on my vehicle rise to a point of overheating. Overheating is not good for your vehicle! Finally, I get to the window and read that they do not accept credit cards or debit cards. In the time of COVID-19, what company is accepting cash as the only available payment? This establishment has been here for a decades and still does not accept credit cards? Before I pay ($6.01) for my meal, I noticed that none of the employees are wearing mask, gloves or any protective gear. A Soda and some onion rings, and we were gold!! Yes, there is a wait, but C'mon folks....every single item is made from scratch and to order! WELLLL worth the wait...."no time", you say???? Then go to McDonalds (who, by the way also has wait time!) Where in the world have I been, not going to this place at least once a week? I did everything to look past my husband, sitting at the steering wheel, so I could watch her put on the fresh pile of onions, toasted buns and fresh hamburger patties!!! As she pleasantly handed the white bags of goodness to my husband, I couldn't contain my curiosity and dug into the onion rings. They were still screaming hot..... and what didn't burn my tongue, was a delicious morsel of perfectly battered onion! There is a bar area inside with 4 or 5 stools on it and you are get real friendly with people sitting on them to pass by to the last stool (Tight squeeze. You are facing the grill and get to watch the complete operation of the joint. They have a drive thru so no you don't have to come inside but it's a treat to watch. They have a 99 cent burger, 1/16 lb of very tastiness, good for about 3 or 4 bites. You can also get a 1/4 lb for about $2.99 or the 3/4 lb monster for $3.99. How can you go wrong with the prices and the special seasoning give you a burger to die for and the fries are cooked crispy, just the way I like them. The clock turns 11 and the line builds quickly down the street as cars wait for their turn in Sport Burger's drive-thru. The menu is constructed from cheap computer printouts, and with policies such as "LIMIT 12 REGULAR CHEESEBURGERS PER CAR" and "If we are closed earlier than normal, it's because we have sold out of product for the day," it's clear that Sport Burger's product moves quickly. At only $1.49, it's easy to see why the cheeseburger is such a draw: the smashed patty is definitely too thin to be cooked to anything other than well-done, but the crispy edges and the caramelization of the meat make up for the lack of finesse. That the patty is properly seasoned helps too, and is appreciated in a city that has a history of bigger, blander burgers. The cheese, bun, and grilled onions are equally cheap and satisfying, making for a burger without pretense and a tremendous value. Fries are only slightly more expensive than a burger, so it should be no surprise that they are of the boring frozen variety. Thankfully, the fryer is kept at a high enough temperature so the steak fries are properly fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Liberally salted, they satisfy much better than their freshly-made and poorly-executed counterparts at other burger joints. A better option at nearly double the cost are the onion rings, which are overcooked but produce a great crunch and bite cleanly without dragging the entire onion out in the first bite. Incongruously listed on the small "healthy extras" menu, the Polish sausage sandwich is another surprisingly well-executed sandwich. The tender and slightly spicy sausage isn't of any noteworthy ilk, but the high heat of the grill allowed the edges of the split casing to caramelize just as well as the burgers, and with the grilled onions and a nicely-toasted bun, it was a worthy addition to a limited menu. The burgers here are almost overshadowed by the impossibly small building, one of the last remaining Valentine diners in town. Pre-fabricated and sold around the 1950s, these small restaurants only held a few seats and were designed to provide an easy way to start a business. Although the dining room was still being used well into the 1990s, the counter is only used for storage nowadays; it's a drive-thru-only establishment now. Over the years 134 N Hillside has seen the name on the sign change many times (Crest Grill, 1st National Hamburgers, Custom Hamburgers, Sutch-A-Burger, Fat Burgers), but Sport Burger has persisted for nearly a decade, perhaps finally figuring out that the best way to operate a tiny old diner is to focus on the cheap fast food that it was built to make. read more

I knew what I was getting into for hamburgers. Small, local, and simple. Their drive thru menu is a bit comical. Almost looks like one of those wanted bulletin boards you would find. I ordered one of their specials which was a double cheeseburger, fries and a drink for 5.99. Reasonable cost that's comparable to any other fast food joint. The wait for your food is a bit longer than any other place. Expect to wait about 5-10 minutes. With a negative, comes a positive. You know your food will be fresh when you pick it up. Pay method is ONLY cash. They don't do plastic or check. Although, who pays with a check for fast food??? Once he handed me the food, I smiled immediately. The bag had grease on the bottom. That's a good sign of a good burger right there. Alright, now here comes the actual food review. The hamburger was executed perfectly. Large bun, grilled onions, cheese, and 2 large beef patties. Seasoning was well done. Most places use too much salt, this burger.. it's simply delicious. I have no complaints about the hamburger. The fries.... well lets just say you can forget about them. They are huge steak fries, but my problem was that they were over cooked. They should be yellow, with a bit of golden brown on the edges. Instead I got orange/brown fries. They were a few minutes over cooked. There wasn't any salt on them either. So I got plain over cooked fries. If you want a great hamburger, this is the place. But expect a bit of a wait time with it. Tips: Don't over cook the fries, and accept credit cards. (If one of them has a smart phone, they should consider getting the square app and square card reader - Both are FREE. If you want a burger that will pass the paper bag test then this is the place for you. If you don't know what a paper bag test is then you haven't eaten very much greasy food. I loved every bite, but with the recognition that my arteries were cloggy up with every delicious bite. I still may have a heart attack, but at least I had a good meal before the end. How did we not know about this place?! So we just moved to Uptown Landing and noticed a line of cars at this place from their opening to their closing time each day. Finally said we had to try it. They open at 11am so to avoid the rush (I thought), I got there at 11am. Well there were already 6 cars in line ahead of me. I texted my husband that "this better be worth it". Absolutely was not disappointed! If you read a negative review of how long it takes (expect 30mins or more), this place is worth it! They have "earned" the long lines because so many know how good it is. They take the time to grill the onions for your burger and make sure that when you get your order the fries are hot! It's not like McDonalds where they put fries in your bag and wait for the burger. This place doesn't put the fries in the bag until last to make sure they are hot for you. All I can say is WOW! I was not in the mood for a burger. But I gave in. My husband drags me to this place. It's literally so small you'd miss it. We pull u after waiting in the drive thru for about 20 minutes and see "cash only" oh great..... So I'm like forget it.. I'm getting chipotle. So, I spend double for me and the kids than this place would have cost. My husband throws a cry baby fit.. So, we go to the ATM and go back to this joint... Wait another 15 minutes.. Get his food (and the kids double food because they now don't want chipotle. In the 15 minute wait I eat all my chipotle. Big mistake. My husband opens his burger.. Which is so massive the wrapper barley covers it.. My stomach drops. It looks so massive. He says "here's a bite without jalapeños (gross) and I melt in my seat. IT WAS THE MOST DELICIOUS BURGER I EVER ATE!!! Now I'm sitting there so mad at myself because I'm full. Because I was STUPID and didn't order there. Watching my husband and kids eat the most delicious burger. During my TWO bites of his MASSIVELY burger, bacon drops in my lap.. He says "go ahead and eat that bacon, look, I've got plenty. I don't care what they say. I'm in love with.... bacon. There's just something about the bacon there that you can't find anywhere else. Juicy yet crunchy. Just the perfect flavor and texture. I always get a giant hamburger with bacon. Sometimes when I'm feeling ambitious, I order two of these beautiful creations. I know. Eating a burger daily is not healthy but at one point I did have a burger almost daily. I went so often that the people there recognized me and would ask if I had class that day. If you go around lunchtime, make sure you have plenty of time to spare because the wait is loooooong. Also, they only accept cash so make sure you have at least four bucks on you if you want a nice burger. Maybe bring a plastic bag to put the bag of food they give you in. Everything is extremely greasy and the bag literally sweats grease. Also, roll down all of your windows unless you want your car to smell like a pot of cooking oil for days.
