This was the absolute worst experience. I was trying to buy boots and also get some rentals and the owner decided to get involved and take over for his staff member. First, he spoke disrespectfully to his worker and then "mansplained" us about how we were wrong to say the boots didn't fit well and we wanted to try a larger size. It was crazy, it didn't matter how we thought the ski boots fit - if it didn't match what he thought, then we were wrong. When I told my daughter we could just rent that day and buy boots when we returned home, he essentially kicked us out of his store. I've never been treated so rudely. I should have read the reviews first because it's clear he has treated others the same way. He needs to sell this store and retire because clearly customer service is not his thing! Please take my advice and DON'T give this guy your business, go to Totem Pole down the street where they are actually nice to their customers.... wow! read more

Second time here. Ownership is horrible. Then bought expensive gear and then paid to have them adjust to my skis. Then they require you pay 3.5% more if you want to pay by credit card. This was not disclosed before adjusting the skis. If I knew that I would have never purchased. So no, I will never buy from here again. read more

Went into the store with specific ski boots in mind and luckily was greeted by Dakota who showed me said boots but also shared the pros and (mostly) cons of them. He made a recommendation based on what concerns/preferences I had, and it's been a game changer for me. I couldn't believe how great they felt on in the store, so I purchased them (as well as new skis since they were having an amazing sale). Went skiing the next day with my new set up and had a blast! For the first time in my life I walked in and left my ski boots completely done up for the whole day because they were so comfortable! If I could give no stars I would. I hate writing bad reviews but geez if you can avoid this place, do it. We drove 6 hours to get to Okemo and I left my stuff in Virginia so I was planning on renting for a weekend. Immediately, I got cussed at for having my coffee with me. I apologized and walked back out. My husband was thinking there would be a trash can so he started walking with our Dunkin breakfast trash, outside of the store, and the guy screamed "God damnit this is a fucking ski shop." I was in shock. We left. It's so sad bc it looks like they could have some good stuff but I will absolutely never support someone who acts like that. There is a shop like 3 minutes down the road called Totem Pole Ski shop with great hospitality and good rentals at a good price. They also have a trash can lol. On a side note, we were there for 3 days and every time we past this place the parking lot was empty, which I think speaks volumes. read more

I rented my skis, boots, and poles here for the first time because I had been renting elsewhere in the area for some time. I have to say that the staff here are incredibly nice, especially Joe. The younger staff members also make an effort to make small talk and that's also nice to see. The main thing about Sports Odyssey is that the rental equipment is slightly higher quality. You get brand names for $5 more per day ($25/day) and they are all the difference! The boots are incredibly comfortable (HEAD) and the skis are also of higher quality. A long-time local retail staple, this is a great store to stop in for new winter gear or, even better, tune-ups for the ski season. I've been to several local shops to get skis waxed or tuned, but I didn't understand how mediocre a job they've been doing until this one. Skis looked brand new with a great coat of wax and crisp edges. Really friendly service too. Prices aren't the cheapest, but that's fine. Good service and quality products are worth something. I had bought a pair of heated gloves here a couple of years ago. This morning one of the gloves developed a problem with the battery pack. Unfortunately they didn't stock lose batteries. They called the manufacturer to order a few sets one for me and a few for the store. The owner then decided to take a battery pack out of a new pair for me and replace them when their order arrived. Rolled into Ludlow a couple weeks ago with a good friend (from long ago college days) who is fairly local. I traveled in from the deep south and needed to rent skis and poles. My friend highly recommeneded we stop at Sports Odyssey for my equipment. This was the afternoon before our ski day. I was greeted by a fellow named Joe, who showed great interest in the type of skiing I did and the kind of ski I might like. He recommended a pair of Head demo skis he just got in, brand new. Sounded great. Joe also expressed an interest in hearing my feedback on these skis when I returned them. He had an employee set the bindings up with my boots. Then, he reviewed the set up. As these were also brand new bindings, in a very nice, mentoring way, Joe had the employee make a slight tweak to the release settings. I liked how he was both encouraging and informative with his young employee. Awesome. The skis were epic. Absolutely the kind of turning I was looking for, and a perfect match for the current mountain conditions. Nailed it. I also liked how interesting and fun Joe was to converse with while the skis were getting set up. We learned we had a couple mutual friends from our much earlier years in different parts of the country. Small world! Upon returning the skis the following day, Joe was quick to greet me with a smile, and wanted to hear how I like the skis. If you are ever in that part of Vermont, or traveling through Ludlow, and need to rent or purchase ski gear, this IS the place! They have a huge selection of winter sports gear, clothing, and accessories. Oh, yea, turns out that Joe owns the place! I wish I read reviews before I went there. I walked in with my 4 year old to find swim trunks to use for the hot tub. One lady walked up to me and asked if my son was trying on the jacket he was wearing. I was so confused, he was wearing his jacket and told her that it's his jacket. She then walked over to the back where they carried the same jacket. She went over and spoke to another lady who also worked there and she asked me the same question. If my son was trying on the jacket, again, I said no, that's his jacket. His older brother also has the same jacket and she followed me around. She then commented that I had a nice jacket. Not sure what she was insinuating, but at that point, I felt like she thought I stole that jacket too. Honestly, if my kids weren't so set on getting in the hot tub after skiing that afternoon, I would have walked out. So rude. Just because I'm not white, doesn't mean I steal, nor cannot afford the clothes I am wearing. I'm sure if you had cameras, or watched when we walked in, you would have noticed that we wore the jackets we walked in. I can't believe this still happens. What a horrible place. If you want to be ignored and disrespected then this is the store for you!! Owner is a jerk. Staff is equally inconsiderate. I am a realistic person and can respect that most of the local businesses in Ludlow are short staffed currently . What I cannot tolerate when I do follow the rules and ask when I can come back to by new equipment- 2 snowboards, 2 bindings and 2 boots which can be considerably lucrative for them and after the second time coming back to buy (when the staff told me to come at that time) I'm turned away. I asked the owner if he could help as we knew the sizes and materials we needed just needed to see what they had for inventory he refused and told me to take my business to Darkside Snowboards. (Which we go to and highly recommend btw!) After how rude I was treated, I still waited patiently to see if they would open the retail room, while waiting one worker said they don't let people In unsupervised because they lose 3 pairs of boots per day. Seriously, you think I can shove bulky retail boards, boots and bindings under a shell jacket- wow, just wow. It baffles me in this economy when local people take the time to support a local business they think its ok to disrespect us. The owner while he saw me standing there for over 20 min thought it was ok to take a man asking about skis into the retail room and when we asked why he did not do the same for us- we were ignored. i seriously was being discriminated against for either being a woman or a snowboarder but money is money. This poorly run business has no reason to discriminate against anyone because they cannot continue to lose local customers like me. No wonder why this place is constantly 'for-sale' and cannot sell. Not sure how they make money when they would rather make their money on rentals and ignore people who actually come to spend real money on equipment. I ACTUALLY LIVE In Ludlow and wont be back nor encourage any of my guests to ever spend one penny of their money to support this business. Notably, their Mount Snow location owned by the brother of this location is the same and treat their people rudely as well. Being a dink runs in this family for sure but fairly not the best customer service if you expect people to come back. I ride 50+ days a year.......every year. Unfortunately, they burned through the base of a carbon fiber $1,000.00 snowboard when tuning it....not my words, but the words of the manufacturer of the board (Jones / Nidecker). Perhaps they had a new grinding belt or someone new running the machine. That noted, their sale prices on outerwear are very very competitive especially for a ski town and the rental experience is exceptional. I've seen the reviews regarding the professionalism of the staff and I disagree. I find them knowledgeable, kind and wonderful to work with. We have many guests that rent from them each year and they ALL rent from them. If it weren't for the tuning experience, I'd give them 5 stars. read more

This owner called me a liberal bitch because i did not see his mask sign in the window and came into the store to but several hundred dollars worth of ski stuff . As soon as i knew i had to wear a mask i put one on myself and my daughter and apologized. The owner yelled at the worker for not telling me to wear one . We had a super uncomfortably encounter with one of the owners. We took our skis in to be tuned up for the up coming season. The gentleman we encountered was charming and helpful. We left our skis and said we would be back in a week to get them. We had been running errands all day and our two dogs needed a pee pee stop. We saw a well manicured lawn next door and chose not to go there but instead to go to the back of the ski store for a quick pee pee stop. The brother/ owner? Immediately accosted us and said it was private property. We apologized and said we were on our way. Evidently that wasn't enough for him, he verbally accosted us. Throwing out profanities right and left. Taking pictures of our license plate and calling us names. At that point I wanted to get my skis back. I was told I could not enter the store and that he was calling the police. I refused to leave until we got our skis back. Needless to say I was shocked confused and traumatized by this mans actions as he screamed at us as spit was flying out of his mouth. He proceeded to video tape the actions. We quickly left the parking lot with our skis, totally dazed and confused about the action of letting our dogs pee on the property behind the ski shop. These dogs have traveled all over the US, Canada and Mexico with many many pee pee stops and we have NEVER ENCOUNTERED A negative response. All types of a animals pee on grass. Birds, skunks, chipmunks, foxes.... The list is endless. Needless to say we will never never go to this store again. NOT A DOG FRIENDLY ( or people for that matter) place. read more

Unsettling and disappointing experience. I'm a middle aged mild mannered guy who rented equipment from this establishment with my son and two friends. We pulled up to the front of the store to unload ski and snowboard returns so as to shorten the distance to walk in the cold . . We were immediately yelled at to move the d___ car. Which we did. . After hauling in equipment the owners threw my friend ( the car driver)out of store and told he wasn't welcome ( this friend is the most polite fellow you'll ever meet- a professor at a local college ). Additionally one of the helmets we had rented had been missing a buckle . It was inconvenient but not enough to prompt me to come back and change it. I was accused of sabotaging the equipment . Maybe they were having a bad day but the rudeness was really beyond anything I've experienced up here in this wonderful town. What a first class shop. Prices are competitive but more importantly the fit and attention to each customer is what sets them apart. Joe (and jimmy) were beyond patient as I selected skis for my daughter. They understood the need for an all mountain ski they could be used for high school ski team use. They were beyond patient and understood that aesthetics matter just as much for my teenager daughter. In the end the higher end demo skis were prepped to the point that they are indistinguishable from new skis. J had his ski rentals there when we were going to Okemos for the weekend, it's quick, friendly and the guys (both young and old) seems to know what they're doing. they open til pretty late so it was convenient that we got the rental the evening before instead of the same day, and we were informed very friendly that we were to decide to keep it for an extra day, just keep it and the same rate will apply, no need to call, saves so much hassle! their price is much cheaper than the mtn price of cos! I didn't have a chance to shop, but there's good selection of sportwears, goggles and etc for sales. read more

I have been stopping in this shop for years now. The people are incredibly nice, informative and, best of all, are the same key people year in and year out. They focus on skiing, but do also carry quite a bit of snowboard equipment. Extensive outdoor clothing and accessory offerings. They have a full rental & service shop downstairs. Jimmy and Joe were beyond patient and all their efforts culminated in buying a hardly used Stockli 156 cm ski and binding package. Needed boots for my son. Already grew out of last years. Bill and Joe at Odyssey hooked him up with some great slightly used Nordica boots that he loves. Low quality snowboards for rental and not very friendly staff. I asked for a one day rental which was 35$ that I had to have back by 6 pm. Vermont got hit with a big snowstorm and I only stayed on the mountain for 3 hours and headed home. I was stuck at the house not able to return my rental I called and asked if I can bring it back first thing in the morning when they opened and the roads were plowed instead I was laughed at and charged again. Not a very accommodating place wont ever step through those doors again.. not to mention when I asked if they had any discount as serving in the Air Force I was laughed at yet again by the manager who said " this is the best discount you'll get for rental" thats the point of a "military discount" Update: Because of my "bad review of ski Odyssey" I had a rude employee named Austin T who works in the store as a ski rental employee leave me a very rude comment towards my post which I will be taking further actions towards.. Stayed at Jackson Gore March 2017. Went to Sports Odyssey to take advantage of their $19.95 a day ski package rental deal (instead of paying $80+ at the resort for rentals). Since I was possibly skiing for two days, I thought this would save a lot of money. Well, I was wrong and my experience ended up being absolutely terrible. The customer service person upsold me on a better pair of skis. Skis were fine but he told me the skis were an extra $15 per day, when they ended up being $20 per day. Which he didn't correct before providing a bill to sign. So, I reluctantly paid it. So now, I'm walking out paying $80+ tax...Looks, like I'm off to a bad start already. Unfortunately, I also made the mistake of assuming the insurance would cover any maintenance issues. Even the fine print doesn't explain any fees beyond "Catastrophic Failure of the equipment". No thanks to the representative for being fully informative. There is no honestly and transparency in the service or paperwork for this place. So, I used the skis for one day and they were fine. Unfortunately the weather was terrible the second day, so we decided not to ski and return the skis. However, upon returning the skis a day early, I asked about being refunded or getting a voucher for not using the skis an extra day. THIS PLACE DOES NOT ISSUE REFUNDS OR VOUCHERS IF THAT HAPPENS. So, now I'm out an extra $40. But then things get even better, the representative tells me I owe an extra $40 for maintenance fees because of a scratch on the bottom of the ski. Now, I'm furious. I argue this point til I'm blue in the face and end up again giving in and paying the $40. All told, I end up paying over $120 to rent skis, boots and poles for 1 day of skiing. This place is a scam and I can't believe that management would foster this type customer service environment. It's unfortunate, you go skiing hoping to have a enjoyable time away from the stress of work and everyday life and then a place like that goes and rips it away from you. Honestly, don't visit this place unless you are looking to have a terrible trip home complaining about how some stupid sports store can ruin your mini-vacation. read more

The old guy downstairs with white hair was super friendly at first, said their prices were half the price of the resort rentals blah blah. Then when we returned our boards he tried looking at BOTH of them and saying that we scratched them up too much and that it was from pipes...?!? I'm a complete beginner so I only rode the easiest trails down, falling on my ass most of the way, and my boyfriend is intermediate, and definitely can't ride anything like pipes or Diamond trails we swore up and down we never did that but he turned into a stiff asshole real quick and just wanted to charge our card $80, because he didn't believe us. Don't bother, the management of this place is simply horrible. We live locally and have several bad experiences with customer service (or lack of). The season rental policy is a joke as they make you return skiis before the season is over or they take your deposit (no exceptions). We were initially told the skiis have to be back by 4/15 b/c they follow Okemo's closing date of 4/12. When I told them that Okemo was open until 4/19, they then said that didn't matter and to return the skiis or lose a hefty deposit. STAY AWAY FOR THIS STORE. The service is awful. read more

And we wanted to swap a pair of snow pants that were ripped on the first day we got them and they said it was pilot error and they wouldn't help us.
