Last week I threw a party - I ordered the cake online on Wednesday for a Saturday pickup. The website is really easy to navigate and allows you to customize your cake. As this was a landmark birthday party, we wanted all black and gray frosting - weird, I know, but it came out perfectly (and was actually very pretty). I arrived on Saturday an hour before I had stated in my order, the cake was ready, and since you can pay online too, I was in and out in 90 seconds. Now, at the end of a grown-up birthday party, you're usually putting the extra cake back in the box and counting the days until the frosting is hard enough to throw the leftovers away and you don't have to feel like you're wasting food. Or is that just me? Regardless, at the end of this party, there wasn't a crumb left (anticipating this, I had already put a generous sized slice in tupperware during the Passing of the Cake Plates cake-cutting ritual - heheheh). I once drove through a massive snowstorm to get one of their cakes (for a party being thrown for me, in fact), because, although the roads were treacherous, they were open for business, my friends are apparently timid drivers, and the cake really is THAT good.

Sometimes businesses just get it right from start to finish. We walked up to the counter and no less than three people popped over to us to see if we needed help or just needed more time to browse the selection. My parents insisted on getting a birthday cake as well as another sweet treat (I didn't protest). Ultimately I chose the Buttercream frosted brownie and we also got a chocolate cake with white icing (decorated with roses on top). Before we checked out, I dipped over to the coffee counter to get some caffeine before we entered our sugar-coma. I asked for a dark roast coffee and the manager on duty went to the back just to make sure she was able to get me a dark-roast. It was really cool that she went out of her way when she could have just said they were out and gotten me a light-roast. The sweets were great and the service made them all-the-better. It looks like they also do cake decorating classes here, too! How cool is that!?

We used Amy Cakes for the first time - and they were incredible. I had communicated back in March…read moreour needs for 2 half sheet cakes (one for an Eagle Scout cake and for a graduation - both with different color schemes). Within a day or two they responded, and I paid the balance, which was very reasonably priced. The week of the event, I asked for confirmation for my order via email - that was seamless. When picking the cakes up, they were well packaged. Stiff board, vented box (so the icing didn't run), and decorated cakes exactly like I had ordered. We cut into the cakes the next day - and they were SO fresh. I ordered one in marble and one in white/vanilla. It was like they had just been baked. Thank you for making our events memorable. We will definitely use again. Tip for other people: Always communicate weeks or months early for your expectations and you should be pleased (May and December are very busy months for bakeries).

I love carrot cake, and their carrot cake cupcake does justice (in my head). The cake is soft, the icing is perfect, and it's not toooo sweet. The amount of spice in it is right (as per my preferences). I wish they used walnuts instead of the lone Pecan, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. I've tried their coconut and red velvet previously as well, and they are good too. It's hard to be disappointed with their cupcakes.
