Sprinkles. Sprinkles. Sprinkles. It has nothing to do with the fact that this chain started in Southern California but rather because of their amazing concept and brand. Oh and have I mentioned that their cupcakes are ABSURDLY MOIST AND DELICIOUS? I have two favorites: the black and white cupcake and the red velvet. I mean, you really really can't go wrong with either of those choices. But they also have their s'mores cupcake and it's divine. I actually tried the s'mores cupcake because Sprinkles is super interactive on Facebook and Twitter and tweeted out a special code that gave me a free cupcake at the Georgetown store that day. While they don't really do the free specials as much anymore on their social media channels, on a good day they still whisper code words for "buy one, get one free" specials. Sprinkles is also a really fantastic community partner. They worked with my organization to provide "buy one, get one free" specials for interns in the D.C. area for a week in 2013 and "free specials" for a week in 2012. I will forever be a fan, this is a great cupcake establishment and it would be an absolute shame for you not to make the journey out to Georgetown for a black and white, red velvet, s'mores cupcake (or all three at once if you're feeling extra gluttonous) *If you have a dog, they even have mini cupcakes dog treats for them! *For special occasions, buy their cupcake mix and make them for a party or for a friend's birthday. Arrived on a Saturday at 3PM, and the line snaked through the store and out the door, but still decided to wait. One of the employees actually requested that the door of the store remain closed to maintain the moisture of the cupcakes. No problem. - vanilla milk chocolate: my style -- rich and decadent. - brown sugar praline: liked the flavor of the caramel cake; great crunchy texture on the outside of the frosting due to nuts and raw brown sugar; too sweet for me. It's a sugary sweet taste (obviously because it's covered in brown sugar crystals), but the nuts added depth to the flavor Many of the reviews say that the cupcakes are too dry. The cakes did crumble when I bit into it, but I wouldn't say that it's dry. I prefer the cupcakes here over Baked and Wired because they're less sweet. read more

Meh. I'm from California and I guess I'm supposed to love Sprinkles, but I've never been a big cupcake fan - it's never been my first dessert go-to. I'd never eaten at Sprinkles either, but having liked Georgetown Cupcake and having visited with the fam and seeing a hugantic line out the door at 3 PM on a Friday, I decided to walk to Georgetown Scoops and came across Sprinkles on the way. I had a strawberry cupcake, which totally didn't do anything for me. $3.50 for a banana flavored cupcake with a super sweet frosting (where was the strawberry again? Oh, was it because the frosting was pink?) doesn't do it for me. Never again. Heard so much about this place, decided to check it out over Baked and Wired in Georgetown. I should have gone with Baked and Wired. I ordered the Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake because I love Reese's peanut butter cups and the new peanut butter Snickers. Unfortunately the cupcake seemed heavy and dry. The only moist part was the top where the icing was. The chocolate chips and the chocoloate icing was ok, but the peanut butter just didn't do it for me. I still think Cake Love and Crumbs are the better cupcake places. read more

I love Sprinkles cupcakes!! I know there's always that Georgetown Cupcakes vs. Sprinkles debate, but here are a few reasons why I prefer Sprinkles in Gtown: 1) The cupcakes are more moist and the icing (for MOST of the cupcakes) is more decadent. 2) It's more efficient. I too once thought that because Gtown Cupcakes had the longer line that I was really missing out on something awesome if I didn't go there, but alas, I was wrong. I've never seen an out of the door line for Sprinkles. I love that I can go in, get a cupcake in ~15 minutes, and go about my business! I'm already paying an exorbitant amount of money for a cupcake, I don't want to sacrifice my time too. 3) The cute little details/perks. I love the mini cupcakes and cupcakes for dogs. The smaller cupcakes are perfect for people who don't have much of a sweet tooth. And if I had a dog, I'd totally bring him/her to Sprinkles. Plus, call me weird, but I love the little wooden cutlery. So unique and cute. And quick tip, you can take your cupcake to the open garden just a few stores down from Sprinkles. Meh I give Sprinkles about 2.5 stars. I've had the Sprinkles cupcakes in LA and they were better than these. My husband and I picked up a few after our anniversary dinner for dessert while in Georgetown. We got the red velvet, peanut butter chocolate, double chocolate, and carrot cake. Honestly? They were all OK but on the somewhat dry side which is one of my biggest pet peeves about cupcakes. They weren't as dry as the ones I got from Lavender Moon in Old town, yet still very disappointing considering the price and reputation. I always try the red velvet since it's my favorite and it was average at best. The staff at Sprinkles was friendly, it was empty when we dropped by at 7pm on a Monday night. I thought this was a cute cupcake place to get a delicious treat, however I will say when I opened the box the cupcakes were completely destroyed after walking back to the car. I know we weren't rough with the bag either, and I think it had a little to do with the cupcake container being shallow place holders. I can't believe I haven't tried Sprinkles till now. I got the black n white cupcake. It was pretty good and moist. The bottom was dark chocolate which I loved because it wasn't too sweet and the frosting was good too. I really wanted to try the Sprinkle ice-cream (my friend recently posted a picture on Facebook) but they didn't have it at this location. Walked in and was greeted with FANTASTIC service. Extremely friendly attendent wrapped up my cupcake in a little bag for me (and made sure to give me a 4th of July sticker as well. Enjoyed being able to sit in the bay window and enjoy every bite of heaven. The cake: PACKED with blueberries. So much so I had trouble tasting the lemon cake itself. The frosting VERY SWEET, and a more than the actual cake part. Had to scrape it off and distribute it with the cutest branded fork. This was our second stop on our mission to taste red velvet cupcakes in the DC area. I was particularly anxious to try Sprinkles because they also have one here on the West Coast, but I have never been. I always wondered what the hype was. After standing in line for half an hour to procure our red velvet specimen from Georgetown Cupcake a few blocks down the road, we were very surprised to find absolutely no line at Sprinkles. We would eventually learn why. Obtaining our red velvet sample for our taste test, we set out to find a nice spot to try and compare. First the Georgetown red velvet. Its flavor compared nicely to our favorite from our local beloved SusieCakes, but it was a bit small. Next came the much anticipated Sprinkles. What a letdown! It was just another cupcake. It didn't even have authentic red velvet frosting. I could not detect the slightest cream cheese flavor or texture in the frosting. It tasted like regular cake frosting. What Sprinkles lacks in taste, it tries to make up for in size. This cupcake was mushroom shaped. It's as if it were designed to deliver more frosting per bite than a cupcake should yield. It was grossly sweet and overpowering of the cake itself. I am glad that I no longer have the desire to drive to Beverly Hills to try a Sprinkles cupcake. I'll be satisfied and content going down the street to a much better product at SusieCakes. Thanks to Sprinkles the cupcake fad will end sooner rather than later. No food network competition between cupcake bakers will save the cupcake industry from run of the mill cupcakes. read more

I always enjoy their cupcakes. The hardest task is finding someplace to park in this area. The staff are friendly. It would be great to have more flavors to choose from in the selection. The only complaint I have is when the lady came to retrieve the empty cupcake rack, the wood piece (that tells you the flavor) fell on the floor. She picked it up and placed it right back in the rack. That was very unsanitary and it was done in front of customers. This piece sits right in front of the cupcakes. Sprinkles was so amazing!! They have the BEST cupcakes in the area, and probably the world. I don't know why they don't have crazy long lines, but I'm not complaining!! The cake is so moist, and the icing is perfect, not too much and not too little. Not to mention, the cupcakes are a good size! Totally worth the $3.75. Even if you aren't a huge fan of cupcakes, I suggest giving them a chance, my mind is still blown! The location is also convenient, and it has a pretty pink store front so you can find it pretty easily on the street. It's a welcoming little shop and the employees were really pleasant too. What an experience!!! Ordered two days in advance, for delivery and they failed to deliver. I called the store multiple times, no answer. Their 888 not any better. After multiple attempts, they answered and apologized as the order have never left the store. The story goes on.... They delivered! Roughly two hours post the call. It's a good cupcake shop. It was not a transformative cupcake, but it was a good, and nicely sized cupcake. I tried the banana peanut butter, cinnamon sugar, red velvet, and salty caramel. When my friends and I arrived, we knew we were going to try Georgetown Cupcakes, but we all know that one bakery is never enough. The space was nice -- there are a few tables and they sell some merchandise -- and the employees were friendly. I had a miniature cupcake and was a little disappointed with the limited number of flavors in minis. I went with the chocolate marshmallow and I would give it 2.5 stars in and of itself. There was only a small bit of marshmallow inside and the cupcake itself was dry and tasted a little like flour (and not enough like chocolate). Bumped this up to 3 stars overall bc I liked the shop and perhaps the "real" cupcakes are better than the minis. Final thoughts : the trademark circle in a circle sugar topper on the cupcake did absolutely nothing for me. I ate it first and if I hadn't had the forethought to remove it before biting into the cupcake, I would've been mad. No crunchy cupcakes, please. I love Sprinkles Cupcakes...They always taste good! The always look adorable. Sprinkles keeps it simple and I like that. I have had the cupcakes in Scottsdale, AZ and Georgetown, DC they taste exactly the same. They are always friendly and upbeat when you are in the store. Sprinkles shops are VERY small. Even when just 7/8 customer are in the store it can seem very crowded. I am not sure why that is, but it seems a little odd to me. I really wish they would provide nutritional information for the cupcakes. It is good to at least track the information even if you know it isn't "good" for you. read more

Sprinkles never disappoints! Today I tried both this and Baked and Wired a few minutes walking distance away, and I was floored by how much better the Sprinkles cupcake is. I have been a fan of Sprinkles since I went to school in LA. I often frequented the location in Beverly Hills, when I moved to San Diego for work, I also frequented the location in La Jolla. When I go home to visit family in Orange County, I frequent the location in Newport Beach. So, it is no surprise that I was ELATED when I found this location in Georgetown... a 60 minute round trip walk, but SO WORTH IT! The cupcakes are moist, and there is not too much frosting... just enough. AND I have never tried a flavor I didn't like. My personal favorite is the red velvet, but the strawberry and chocolate chip raspberry are also delicious. Sprinkles is a wonderful addition to the growing DC-cupcake/sweets scene. If you are looking for delicious cupcakes with a heavier frosting than most, this might just be the spot for you. The LA-native shop came to DC a few years ago and has developed a strong following ever since. My cousin from California always wants to visit Sprinkles in Georgetown when she comes to visit. She's a cupcake connoisseur and has tried all DC has to offer, but still just wants good ol' Sprinkles when she is in town. Both cupcakes were very moist and had the right amount of icing; my sister thought the icing was too sweet. It pains me to have to do this, but I have to update my first review based on the customer service I received in the store a week ago. So disclaimer: this review is solely on customer service. For a review on the cupcakes, please refer to my first review. Ever since I discovered Sprinkles, I've been advising all my friends and colleagues to go to Sprinkles Cupcakes instead of Georgetown Cupcakes and Georgetown Scoops. I've never encountered an unfriendly face behind the counter until last week. When I first stepped up to the counter, I told the girl I was placing two separate orders and they had to be rung up separately. My first order was for a dozen cupcakes and the second order was for half a dozen. After she took my order for the first one, she looked annoyed when I reminded her I needed to place a second order. I gave her the flavors I wanted, but my friend asked me to change two of the flavors for different ones. The sales girl looked even more annoyed now. After she huffed and puffed, I stood aside to pay the cashier as she put my orders together. But instead of getting my orders ready, she spent some time chatting to another sales girl behind the counter. She was so slow at packing my two boxes, one of her co-workers had to step up and give her a hand because she saw me and my friend standing there for a while. I saved my receipt and scoured the Sprinkles website for a comments/complaints email page, but they don't have one. I even tried to call the store, but no one answered. So I'm letting all my Yelpers know: go for the cupcakes, be wary of the customer service--especially if you have a large or somewhat complicated order. read more

I think the best flavor that Candice Nelson has come up with was the S'mores with Blake Lively I was so surprised that it was so S'more like there was a graham cracker crust with a chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache center and a toasted marshmallow frosting. It was totally on point as a cupcake. The other flavors haven't really caught my eye i mean they aren't bad but they aren't that exciting either. I guess i'm just waiting for another exciting candice invention similar to the creativity of the s'mores cupcake. So, I have to admit, the first time I went here I didn't actually buy a cupcake. That's because I had a received a free voucher from my volunteer work the week before during MLK day. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have stumbled into this establishment. That said, the cupcakes were very much like any other bakery in the area. A friend and I dropped through Sprinkles after seeing the particularly long line at Baked and Wired yesterday. There were about six people inside the shop, so we were able to move through quickly. They have a good number of flavors and also offer tea and other items. We ordered four cupcakes and by the end, neither of us could say we would return. I LOVE cupcakes and make a point to visit as many cupcakeries as possible, and this is the only one where I didn't finish all the cupcakes--even sharing with a friend. 1) Salted caramel: By far the best cupcake. It was moist, rich and had great icing. Not too fluffy but definitely not dry. A four out of five. 2) Sprinkles: It tasted pretty artificial overall. The icing seemed like something off a grocery store shelf, and the sprinkles on the top (similar to what another Yelper below said) taste fake. 2 out of 5. 3) Lemon blueberry. I really enjoy lemon blueberry cupcakes, pancakes--all of the cakes. But this one wasn't great. The blueberries in the cupcake were rather hard and tasted a little strange. The rest of the cupcake was solid. 3 out of 5. 4) Cinnamon: Definitely our least favorite. The cupcake overall was very dry--not like "Oh, this is dry because it's like crumble cake," but rather just dry. There was an overwhelming taste of nutmeg that I wasn't a fan of. 1 out of 5. When I went to LA last year my friend and I made this huge deal about going to get Sprinkles cupcake (apparently it was the first cupcakery). It resulted in getting stuck in stupid LA traffic and being almost an hour late to our friend's celebratory dinner (we made up for it by bringing them cupcakes, ha). And now they've opened a location here in DC! All that for nothin'! I happened to be nearby when I saw that Sprinkles popped up on Foursquare. As a fan I had to check it out. Just like the LA store, it's very small - it fits about 10 people in line and unlike Georgetown Cupcake, the line is not wrapped around the corner! I believe they do have seating upstairs which can also be a private party room. The cupcakes are fantastic here. They're the perfect size and the cake portion is light and sweet - just how I like it. I could do without all the frosting, which can be a little thick. They are a little pricey. They are about $3.50 each, which isn't horrible but not cheap either. My favorite flavor here is Vanilla Latte. Checking out can be kind of confusing. They take your order once you pass the display of yummy 'cakes, take your name, then while you're waiting for them to put your box together (I ordered a 4-pack) you're kind of confused where to go since the next step down the line is the register. Thankfully, during this confusing time, I noticed they sold cupcakes for dogs! They are mini size and where $2.50 each (yeesh!) but for anything for my dog! (It's fun watching him try to figure out how to eat a treat). They also have an assortment of gifts you can buy - from Sprinkles t-shirts, cupcake display trays, and cake mix. If you're in Georgetown it's worth stopping by, but don't make a special trip for it. It's definitely better than Georgetown Cupcake but Baked & Wired will still remain my favorite. read more
