One of my favorite go-to bars for gatherings, because this place is spacious and welcoming. There are food options for vegetarians as well as us omnivores. Full bar, lots of beer on tap, and bartenders that really know how to serve a crowd without it feeling like a frat house. There are lots of small tables as well as long communal tables. And bar seating is ample, but with how busy it is on weekends, better be ready to duck and cover as people reach over and around. The garage door style windows open up to let in fresh air, keeping the bar feeling fresh and breezy. The fireplaces keep it cozy in the winter. Been drinking at spritz for almost 3 years now. The bar tenders are spectacular, fun, and good at their job. Everyone is treated like a local at this place even if you're coming from across the river. The weeknights are chill and the weekends are slightly more crowded. It is the quintessential spot for a fun day drink gathering. Particular in love with this place due to the crowd it attracts- you're likely to see 30th birthday celebrations rather than 21st. In addition the beer selection is vast and there's always something new to try. The bar tenders provide amazing guidance through the list and are happy to find a match to your taste. Oh and did I mention those french fries? And dips! They have so many amazing DIPS! The winter is pleasant and cozy although the space is large, they even have a roaring fire place that they keep going when it's cold out. The summer is fun and upbeat, the windows that typically enclose the space actually open up to provide overhead for street seating where they place large communal picnic tables. I really wanted to like this place. Granted they've only been open for a few days, my 2 stars are for the decor and proximity to McCarren Park. The missing 3 stars have nothing to do with the personalities and knowledge of the staff. (Although I once read, you only have one chance. Have your shit together before you open.) This is clearly a bar to attract more people from Manhattan and Hoboken. Ever been to Hoboken on a Saturday night? That's going to be Williamsburg very soon. There is not one thing that makes this place special. So they advertise 100 taps...have 100 different beers then. There is a selection of about 25 total and they are all predictable and boring. You're opening a massive beer bar in an already saturated neighborhood. Come up with something different that we can't find three blocks away at Berry Park, DBA, Radegast, Lucky Dog, Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn Brewery, etc... Another reason for 2 stars, the bathroom situation. This is a massive establishment made to accommodate a large amount people and they built 4 separate stalls! Do you have any idea how long the line is going to be once this place gets hopping? At least they could have put ventilation in the stalls to clear out the stench or some indication that they are occupied. Instead you have to try each door, pushing them slightly open since the latch hooks don't seal them closed. Only plus is that the sink is outside so you're on display for everyone to see when you you don't wash your hands. The last and most irritating reason for 2 stars is that this place has the audacity to charge $6 for domestic beer in 14oz glasses! Read that again. 14oz is less than a pint. Don't be fooled because they look like pint glasses. They are not. That being said, the iron work on the ceiling is nice and the place has a wonderful airy feeling when all the windows are open. The view to McCarren Park is a plus. ...and there's a massive fireplace in the center that will probably be the scene of many singalongs and camp stories...or story-time with the other moms with baby carriages...or the punch line to the joke about the frat guy who tried to drink all 25 beers in 2 hours before verbally abusing a table of women, peeing in the park across the street, throwing up outside the yoga studio next door, before stumbling back inside only to trip and fall headfirst into the blaze. If you're looking for a cool bar to host 30 of your closest friends, this is a good spot. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate bar to cozy up with your Tinder date with, you might want to try another place. They do have fireplaces during the winter months, but your romantic escapades will probably be interrupted by inebriated youths noisily playing Jenga and spontaneously breaking out into song. On the same note, this is also probably not the best spot to bring babies- who may be startled and upset by all the noise- but that didn't stop several big groups on a Saturday afternoon. Luckily I don't have any spare babies to bring to bars, so I was perfectly happy to join the cacophony of youths instead. ...I digress. Anyways, Spritzenhaus is pretty awesome for their vast beer (and non-beer) libations, classic beerhall food, and lively atmosphere. It's pretty crowded during peak hours, but the bartenders move fast and the staff are always at the top of their game. I don't drink beer, but for all the basic b's out there, Spritzenhaus offers a fantastic rose cider that I've never seen anywhere else. I could seriously drink this all day long (and I have). To make drinking even more fun, they also have a bunch of Jenga sets floating around the hall. Just be careful of your drinks if you play, because more likely than not, a Jenga tower will come crashing down into your drink. And then you'll be very sad and wet and smell like rose cider for the rest of the day. Not that that's happened to me or anything. read more

This place seemed so nice until the rudeness of the manager left a bad taste in my mouth. I went into this place alone with my service dog, ordered food and a drink and had intended to enjoy the food and beers until a group of friends could join me later. I was so unbelievably disgusted with the attitude of this business in relation to my service dog with me. A dog that was well behaved, under control and sleeping under my chair. I had 5 members of staff approach me and inform me of the "no dog policy". In showing them all my dogs paperwork and state registered ID tags, 3 apologized and left me alone, and the other 2 muttered profanities under their breath when leaving. When the manager arrived, he aggressively threatened me and told me I was an attention seeker with a dog, trouble maker, he did not recognize service dogs and that I had to leave immediately. I informed him of NYC law, offered to show him my dogs documentation (which I had out on the table having been approached so many times), etc and he refused to acknowledge any of it. He told me I had to go outside in which I said I would if he could find somewhere for me to go (the outside area was filled due to the nice weather) I left the facility in tears having been bullied out of the restaurant and not been able to finish my meal or drink and went straight to the local police station to file a complaint read more

If you enjoy hanging out with a family of large roaches while enjoying a beer, check out the outside benches! One might even crawl up on to your neck if you're lucky like me. Luckily the windows around the establishment were all open, so if the roaches felt cold they could just hang out inside, right near the open food bar. Whatever the weather might be outside, the state of your job, your love life, or the Union, Spritzenhaus always come through and doesn't ask you any questions. If you need a "fun" date spot, a casual space big enough to invite all of your friends to play Jenga with - even if you're not sure how many of them will show up because they're f*ckimg busy New Yorkers - or hell, if you just want to enjoy a bratwurst and beer by yourself in peace, this place accommodates all of those needs. Their pretzels and bratwursts are quite delicious and they have a variety of sauces. The only drawback is that this place can get crowded in the summer, even when they open up the outdoor seating. Awesome place and a welcome addition to the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area. I went a couple days after the opening and found everything promised. 100+ taps (though really about 25 beers to choose from), awesome space, several excellent seating options, and huge windows that opened up to give it that outdoor feel. The beer prices were reasonable at $6 for domestic pints and $7 for imports, though mine came in a larger .5L glass (I don't know if all of the imports are served that way). Sadly, the kitchen wasn't yet open, so I couldn't sample the food, but I am looking forward to trying ti out once they get the food service up and running. One of my go-to places in Greenpoint. The vibe is really laid back and has a lot of space until the weekend when it gets a lot busier, regardless I will always find a spot to sit in for a beer, sausage and pretzel. Spritzenhaus is an awesome bar, especially in the winter when you can cozy up to the big fireplace you see when you walk in. The tables are long so this is a good spot for groups. The only thing there is that it is a popular place so keep in mind you may have trouble finding one at first! The beer and cider list on tap/bottle here is impressive... like crazy. It is hard enough to choose without 30000 options. I always go for the bartenders favorite cider or something along those lines. My guess is people mostly drink beer here versus the hard stuff... I say that because I was in here a couple weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon and my friend and I ordered white russians... yes, we ordered white russians in the beer bar. Don't come to Spritzenhaus with regional expectations for a "beer garden", for a beer wonderland Spritzenhaus is not. It's actually just a "really big and nice place to drink some okay beer" - distinct from hipster haven Berry Park, mead hall Radegast and lovely Lorelei in that it simply doesn't specialize in beer. That's ok - expansive, convenient real estate actually cause me to prefer Spritzenhaus when it comes to a good-for-groups, anytime option. There might be "nothing special" about Spritzenhaus - but I'll be darned if the nabe couldn't use another outdoorsy expanse to sip on something cold come summertime. read more

I've been here twice before. A beergarten through and through but ridiculously priced for what it's worth. I've had the food and it's as interesting an experience as it comes. It's noisy as all hell, as can be expected but finding seating is an exercise in futility on busy nights. What's on the menu? well duh, brats and beer! Pick a sausage meat, and grab a pint. If that doesn't float your boat, your last recourse is a pretzel or possibly fries all of which taste good. The beer selection is vast and slightly dizzying. Best biergarten, I can't say that for sure. There's too much North Brooklyn mixed in to call it authentic. If you don't know what that means, go figure it out for yourself. The only highlights I might point out are the cool looking fireplace and the fact that all the windows open out to get good light exposure to make the entire hall seem outdoors. read more

This beer garden is kind of the perfect "drink a beer in open air while watching the FIFA World Cup" spot -- which is exactly what I did here. I love the feel of the place: they can open up all the windows on one side during the summer and you can gaze straight into McCarren Park. Also, they have those old-fashioned ceiling fan systems where all the fans are linked together by a belt. While here, I indulged in a sausage that came in a pretzel bun. I don't recall which one it was, but I remember there was chipotle in it. Sausage doesn't really matter, because while it was good, the pretzel bun stole the show. I'm love this tucked away (and out of the way,but so worth it!) spot midway between Williamsburg and Greenpoint (I guess technically Greenpoint). It's spacious, with lots of bar space and tables (where you can even played fun games, such as Jenga). The bartenders are all cool and made good recommendations on the massive craft beers selection. My bf got a pretty good IPA (don't remember which one- but it was sweet ish) and I ordered a hot tody- a hot drink which had a bit too much bourbon for my taste (and cinnamon). I'm not much of a drinker but I do love my German-esque bar food, so I was really pleased with the special house made pretzels (which were so soft, buttery, and salty). They give you a choice to pick a special sauce-- from the special mustards to peanut sauce.. we got the Greek yogurt sauce which was like a yummy tzatizki. It seems as though there are other very yummy bites here, which I will have to try next time: the Belgian fries, various Brats (they do make a vegan and chicken version, as I don't eat pork/beef.. and bf tells me you can get it ON the pretzel bun, yummy!), and randomly.. the Black Kale salad. Def a good place for drinks before you go out out or to dinner as they don't have any real entrees but I think this place was a great vibe and would recommend it to all. Plus I love the music choice- it wasn't like stereotypical angsty hipster music, but I actually heard some old school favorites such as "Are you That Somebody" by Aaliyah and "I like it Like that" by Hot Chelle Rae.. street cred, me likes! I absolutely loved this place last weekend. It is THE perfect place to meander about to on a weekend for some day drinking. Ample amount of tables inside and outside, and the best part was the windows open up in nice weather so even the folks sitting inside can either bask in the sun or simply enjoy the fresh Willyburg air. Beautiful view of the park. Nice beer selection...I was pleasantly surprised to see they have so much on draft besides just German beers. And the sausages-- I was raving all weekend about them. You choose a type of meat and a topping, and inside I got so excited I nearly had a conniption and ordered three. Thankfully I was with friends so I got to try a variety. Buffalo is amazing, gobbled up the venison in no time, and even the rabbit was delicious. The jicama jalapeno was a table favorite, but someday I will return to try the chorizo chili. The best part? THEY COME ON A PRETZEL BUN. 'nuff said. Sides-wise, the fries were good, be creative with the toppings, and the kale salad was awesome. Basically, you'll see me here all summer. read more

Surprised by all the negative reviews! Oh well, I had a blast here. I stopped in with my beau last Sunday after a cruise around the Renegade Craft Fair in McCarren Park (which was super fun). We hunkered down for a beer at the bar on the left and I was impressed by the size and open-air design. There was a nice breeze and a lot of interesting people to watch, plus outdoor seating is a huge benefit to any summer eating/drinking establishment. I can't say anything about the food, we only drank but our bartender was funny and really nice. Better yet: he was knowledgeable about beer. We had no problems getting samples and finding a draft we were interested in...or a few :) I will say that the bathroom situation is disappointing, I don't want to sit at a bar and see people trek in and out of the loo...nor do I want to hear anything that anyone is doing in the bathroom while I am drinking and eating at the nearby bar....Close it up Spritzenhaus...at least section it off for privacy? That aside, I would go back for another drink. At glance, the brunch menu was overpriced so I don't know if my pocket could handle eating and drinking here. read more

This place was disappointing and lame. Two stars = good layout & good beer selection (but in honesty, they could have done a bit more than just American and German beers to get more variety). Their service was so. freaking. strange. Nice enough, but didn't seem to have a clue what was going on. About every 3 minutes a runner/server would stop by our table with a tray of beers or dishes of food and say "did you order _____?" The answer was always no, and they would go on to question the next table. Do they not have table numbers? Am I missing something here? Also, judgmental me was kind of expecting to see a hip, younger crowd there, but when I went there seemed to be some sort of polo shirt - khaki shorts convention for middle aged men who wanted to break off from their wives for the afternoon. And they just seemed to keep... multiplying from the bar they were standing at. Until they were so far out they were practically sitting at our table. Sorry people but Berry Parks roof is always too crowded and I like being able to people watch on the street and well, you can't do that at any other Beer Hall in the area can you? Also a bonus, I can always find a table and seats for everyone I'm with, cause it's BIG. Yes, some times there are douche-y people in there, but ignore them and just do what you are supposed to do in a Beer Hall and DRINK and talk to your friends. The Pretzels are back on the menu (thank heavens!), so there's that. It's also gleaming and beautiful. The beer selection is delicious and it comes in the glass you would expect it too. I have visited Spritzenhaus on occasion since it opened but I really put it to the test recently when I decided to start my birthday party here. It seemed like an ideal candidate as I knew my friends were going to arrive at various times so the self-serve food option seemed fitting. Everyone at my party had a good time. They got to discover new beers they've never had, and have excellent bratwurst and fries. In fact, I heard "this is a great place" several times that evening and "that was a great place" several times over the course of next week. read more

Amazing space for groups- really big inside, large tables, and natural light coming in from the vast array of windows! Plenty of beer and cider options, such as strawberry beer & pear cider, and Belgian fries on the menu to satisfy the hunger. Bartenders are friendly and the overall crowd was laid back. I'm not sure how busy this place gets on a weekend night, but on a Sunday afternoon, it was an awesome place to spend with a group. The bathroom was clean and it had an old school step-pedal sink. By far, my all time favorite hang out spot. Please excuse this highly biased review, as I have nothing bad to say about the Spritz. The service is great, the food is great, the prices are great, the beer list is insanely long (and I'm convinced I'll never make my way through it), the ambiance and atmosphere is great, the people who frequent it are great - have I mentioned this place is great? It's great. I even had my birthday party here this past year. I called ahead, and they reserved two full tables for me, and were completely accommodating and wonderful. And Jenga, much? Bring a pen and write your witty comments galore! Combine multiple sets for ultimate Jenga. Best part about this beer hall is the spaciousness with all windows open (either open or just not even there). There are benches outside so you can come with your dog in the nice weather, and there seems to be a HUGE wrap-around(?) fireplace inside, which will be awesome when it gets cold out. The beer selection is extensive, of course, and there's even some good food options and a few healthy salads on the menu, too. The service was... ok. They seemed nice at first, then seemed a little snippy and slow (it wasn't busy at all when i went). All-in-all worth going to. Mostly i just can't wait to see that fireplace in action! read more

I came here for a birthday on a Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The perk of doors that open up to the street was lost on me due to the chilliness of the night and inappropriate nature of my coming-from-work outfit (I mean, regardless of how cold it is I just can't wear tights after April - fuck it). I do, however, plan to bring a group back when it's nice on a Saturday and do some serious day drinking. The place is quite well done. Lots of space, great food and large selection of beer. Tried quite a few items on the menu and was not disappointed other than the brauts not coming with any condiments. Just a sausage and pretzel bun. So I had to order sauerkraut on the side for an extra $5. Not too happy about that but it made such a difference. Also they have table service which is cool.
