Spritzenhaus 33 is just steps away from Nassau Ave staton on the G line. Anyway, I didn't take subway there. We drove by this place on Saturday afternoon on our way back to Queens. Since we couldn't get in to the Brooklyn Brewery, we were looking for a bar to hang out and have some beer. We found this place by accident, plus we got a parking spot right in front. That was a good sign, right? The place looked somewhat crowded. What caught my eyes was that they offer a liter of Narragansett Lager for $10! Good deal! We sat at the bar and perused the beer list. There are 25 beers on tap. The bartenders seemed to be very busy, but they eventually came around to take your orders. So we got our beers plus two bratwursts. The bratwursts were amazing!!! Really disappointed with my recent experience trying to book tables for a party at Spritzenhaus. A month in advance I tried booking tables on their website and never got a response. I then tried calling some days later but they don't have an answering machine, so I emailed the email that they mentioned asking for the same reservation I had submitted a request for. After not hearing back from that email, I went TO Spritzenhaus, solely to speak to someone about making a reservation and never hearing back about my request. The manager wasn't there so one of the bartenders took down my information and said they would make sure the manager saw it. This was now 3 weeks before the requested time, and a week later, I still hadn't heard anything! So I emailed again. Still no response. We ended up deciding to go on the date we were trying to reserve hoping that we would be able to manage without a reservation. We walk in around 1:30 on Saturday and EVERY SINGLE table is booked. I spoke to the manager telling him that I tried to reserve numerous times through numerous points of contact and he was rude and unapologetic about how they had somehow seemed to see to so many other peoples requests but not mine despite my endless efforts to contact them. They allowed us to sit at other tables until those parties arrived, and then when they did show up, they very rudely and abruptly asked us to vacate the tables. Incredibly disappointed since I have enjoyed Spritzenhaus in the past, but will think twice before going in the future and would strongly warn against booking a party here. read more

I would normally give a place like this a four (meh food options, but good beer selection and fun pre-game type atmosphere), but the service was not good. My friend and I went up to the bar to order some food since we got some strong drinks. This bartender (I didn't get a name, but he looked like a more disheveled Chris D'elia with glasses) was super rude to us. I had my card out to order my own food, and he just put my food on her tab without asking our preference. We politely tried to ask if we could put it on our own cards, and he said "you're friends, figure it out. That's what Venmo is for." I was shocked at the disrespect, particularly as we approached with kindness. I understand it's a popular spot and he probably has to deal with rude folks, but there's no need to take that out on paying customers. Worst experience of my life. I've frequented this place over the years, but will never return. While I waited for my Uber, the doorman PUT HIS HANDS ON ME-- grabbed me & shoved me out of the bar. I opened the door to ask his name, and he put his hands on me AGAIN and shoved me AGAIN. Then, a manager or bartender came over-- he refused to provide their names, couldn't make eye contact with me, didn't apologize, and closed the door in my face. Meanwhile, there were still people dancing and drinking beer inside. Seems like the bartenders closed 3 hours early to party with their friends. Spritzenhaus 33 is a great place to go with friends. I came by on a Sunday, and it was packed. There's a mix of large groups for birthdays as well as smaller parties. Overall, the environment is really fun; they have table games like Jenga, and it's a nice place to stay and hang out for more than an hour. Food. They have a selection of different types of sausages you can get on a pretzel bun. You get to choose your selection of topping (saurkraut, peppers & onions, chili, etc.) They also have fries and pretzels. It's not somewhere you can have a full meal, but it's something to snack on. Price. The prices make me give this place a 4 instead of a 5. The sausages are around $9-$12 depending on what you get. If you want additional toppings, you have to pay $2. If you want additional sauces, that's an additional $1. These all seem pretty high for just add-ons. Fries are also $6, and you don't really get that much. Overall, the food prices are pretty expensive for what you get. Service. The staff was attentive and quick to clear our plates or any empty glasses. The bartenders here are extremely rude and it seems like an institutional problem (almost every bartender has some sort of attitude problem). Came here on a Saturday night, it was paaccccked to the point where you had to walk through,around, under (in my case because I'm short) people to get to the bar. This place is also a good size too, and all spaces were filled so I guess it's popular. The drink that I got was good, they do not accept discover, actually, "anything but discover" . There's a huge variety of drinks as well. The part I loved: the bucket of Jenga games placed at every other table. So fun! They have more than 2 bathrooms so that's a plus. Check it out! There are more places than ever to have beer in, and just as importantly, to have beer with.  Spritzenhaus, an expansive bar adjacent to McCarren Park in Greenpoint/Williamsburg, has an appealing profile to welcome a variety of beer drinkers. Groups Truly a biergarten, Spritzenhaus' sprawling, industrial space is filled with large, wood communal tables, which can be reserved ahead of time.  They have a nice variety of adult games available, making this a great spot for groups to spend time.  The beer and food are self-serve from the bar, which makes it easier for individuals in groups to place orders as they wish without trying to split bills. Beer drinkers with young ones Open at noon on Thursdays through Sundays, the afternoons are a terrific place for those with children.  Outfitted with heavy duty communal tables fixed in place (but the benches are not and have been known to tip up if someone is sitting only at one end), the big space diffuses noise.  Even on weekends, it's not tremendously crowded and when the weather is good, the Nassau Avenue side of the restaurant opens up.  Beer drinkers without young ones Come in the evening and later (open to 4 am daily), and it will be a typical Williamsburg crowd sans children.  There are two separate bar areas to sit or hang out at, communal tables for groups, and a few smaller tables too.  A bouncer sets up shop at the door by late evening, and the space can get quite crowded. Craft beer aficionados Over two dozen drafts, with well over half comprising craft beers from good domestic brewers and some overseas ones, especially Belgium and Germany, there are choices for a discerning beer drinker.  The seasonal draft section ensure regular rotation.  The bottled menu, twice as large, has respectable sours, ciders, stout/porters, and Belgian styles, and changes up periodically. There's several gluten-free and non-alcoholic ones too.  While some drafts can be purchased in much bigger drinking vessels, even liter-size, most are served in reasonable 12 to 16 oz glassware. Casual beer (or non beer) drinkers While the beer selection at Spritzenhaus, tap and bottled, is missing mainstream beers, there are many on offer that can sub for most beer drinkers, especially from the German imports; the bartenders can help pick one.  There's wine (not just a house glass) and a better than average mixed drink menu for non beer drinkers. Quality Besides quality beer, respectable whiskey selection, and decent mixed drinks, the concise food menu is very good bar food.  Upscale sausages are fun and interesting, from a good, simple bratwurst to a terrific, flavorful krainerwurst and Argentinian beef (my two favorites), to exotic bratwurst choices like rabbit and veal, buffalo, duck, and venison.  Pick from four toppings; the jalapeño jicama slaw is crisp and refreshing and a standout.  Frites are freshly fried: crisp, substancial, and delicious.  The order comes with one of their housemade dips (curry chili ancho ketchup!), more can be had for $1 each; the basic ones (ketchup, mayo, mustard) complimentary.  Dip pieces of the giant Sigmund's pretzel too, great to share and served hot. Spritzenhaus is a great beer bar with good beer and food, and a fun space; a lot to offer to different people.  The evening scene isn't for me, but the afternoons are wonderful, and I'll be there for that. read more

This build out had to have been in the millions - wonder how many overpriced sausages they have to serve to make their $ back. THE place for a laid back beer with a group. Huge bar area with so many communal tables. It wasn't hard to find a table for 5 of us. We were there around 4:00 on a Saturday after spending a few hours at Smorgesburg (I can never spell this right) down the street. I had a pretzel and a few different drinks. The food ordering process is confusing as a first-timer. When you put an order in for a pretzel, hot dog or bratwurst, you get a ticket. You have to wait by the food area and they'll call out your name. It sounds simple but I was confused and had to act like I knew what I was doing. The Moscow mule was standard and was surprisingly pretty good. They definitely don't jip you on drinks. You're paying NY prices but you're getting a pretty good sized drink. They have a plethora of beers on tap. Be sure to check out the drink menu that bartenders have laid out across the bar. Looking forward to coming back with another group of friends. I'm giving four stars because the noise level was loud despite there being no music. It's a huge open space with open windows and no doors. If you like sour and funky beers, then let the bartenders know; they have a separate menu for these types of beers with some rare options. The atmosphere is awesome. The venue was packed with people enjoying themselves. Everyone was extremely respectful. It feels like a small neighborhood bar with dim lights and intimate, yet it's big enough to fit plenty of large groups. Honestly had a decent time at this bar but that was all ruined by the bartender Scott - apparently having to close out your tab more than once is something he's incapable of doing. I went up to the bar to grab a few beers and closed out my tab... plans changed so we ended up staying at the bar longer than expected (which should be a good thing for the bar?) I went up to the bar to order more drinks for everyone, I ordered with a different bartender but Scott literally shoved his way through and snapped at me saying he'd asked me already if I wanted to keep my tab open and he'll keep my tab open regardless of what I needed. Never felt this type of disrespect in any place before let alone a bar where this happens all the fucking time. After reading other reviews for this place it seems like that's a common occurrence with this guy. I love a good beer and sausage place--we have a handful of them where I live, and they're always reliable options for a solid meal where you can sit down and have a drink and relax for a while without spending a ton of money. I went to Spritzenhaus for a birthday party while I was visiting New York, and it was a great spot for a large group to hang out loosely for several hours on a Wednesday night. The place was huge, spacious and open comfortable with a lot of communal seat-yourself tables. We spread out over a few of these, hanging out and playing Truth or Dare Jenga with moderate success (most of the Jenga pieces are written on, but they don't always translate well to Truths and Dares; one of my friends did FaceTime several people whose phone numbers were on the blocks, and a shocking number of them picked up). The vibe was relaxed and convivial, and we all ate and drank at our own pace. There was no table service--you order at the bar and pick up at the other end. Pretty easy, pretty quick, and the bartenders were friendly. I had a couple of the beers on tap--the Tripel Karmaliet Belgian ale and the Two Hearted ale, both great--and a sausage and fries for dinner. The sausage was excellent. I got the krainerwurst, which was a smoked garlic pork and beef sausage with chipotle aioli, and topped it with the jalapeño jicama coleslaw. Could've used a little more jalapeño in that slaw (who cares about jicama?) but it was all very tasty, the sausage snappy and flavorful, the slaw fresh and cooling. The bun was good, too, up to the task of holding it all together. I also loved the Belgian fries, nice and crispy on the outside, thin but with creamy centers. There were a few orders on the table with a few different dipping sauces. Not sure what they all were, but I got us the maple banh mi sauce, which was on point, sweet and spicy, made with sesame oil, sriracha, maple syrup, and cilantro. Spritzenhaus was fun and easy with good food and beer--I could see myself going often if I lived in this part of Brooklyn. I'd recommend it to locals and visitors alike. Had a casual going away party here, and it was a great venue for my event. Reserving a table was easy and done quickly via email (I reserved for a Sunday afternoon, maybe it would be more difficult on a Saturday or in the evening). The place was spacious with good vibes and great beer variety. Enjoyed the fries and dipping sauces a lot (curry chili ketchup my favorite), and the sausages and pretzels were also pretty good. Only drawback was that there was a big birthday party for a 4 year old child (a little bit of a weird venue for a kid's birthday if you ask me). That wouldn't ordinarily bother me but the kids were running wild the whole time -- including crawling on our table, yelling quite a bit, and riding a bike around the venue (!?!). My friends and I used to love coming here in the summer because the patio was dog friendly. Today, however, the bouncer came over to our table after we already had beers and told us dogs were not allowed. When we said both of our dogs were service dogs, he insisted on seeing an ID card. This is fine, but we did not have a card on us for one of our dogs because we are literally NEVER questioned when we say we have a service dog. We offered to show the manager our doctor's note to prove the service was needed, but the bouncer refused to call the manager and instead, condescendingly asked us if we saw the "no dog signs". I get that it's not easy to enforce rules, but he did so in a rude manner and failed to try and accommodate our situation or resolve it another way. Not going back here. read more

Went for lunch and beers this sunny afternoon. Arrived around 10 minutes after opening time and they were still opening up, but it was fine because we sat and claimed a table under the outdoor dining awning. We were able to sit comfortably with our dog outside on such a nice day which was a plus! Wanted to try the duck and rabbit sausages that were on the chalkboard but at the bar they told me they were not available. Tried the chicken and venison sausages instead with chorizo and cheese. Both were yummy and satisfying with the venison being both me and my boyfriend's favorite. Also got a pretzel which was soft, warm and satisfying. They don't have beer cheese which was a bit disappointing and they forgot the mustard but the chipotle aioli was very good. For drinks we had the Hefeweizen which we both enjoyed. I also had a Fruli strawberry beer that was so refreshing on a warm day. Seemed like it might've been the bartender's first day as there was some confusion with my order and other customers' so I gave the benefit of the doubt. This new beer house in Willyburg (3rd in Brooklyn) invites all and doesn't discriminate. I wouldn't suggest bringing your 5 year old kid here and read a book to him while the bus boy is dropping mugs on the floor like it's hot, but we have some winners that did. They have a decent selection of beer but knowing that they recently opened I'm sure they will evolve and offer more variety in due time. One of the beers I initially ordered was out and a Rye I ordered for my friend was nowhere to be found. No biggie, I understand. Hopefully, the next time around they will be fully stocked and ready for whiskey girl and friends. The kitchen wasn't open yet so I'm curious to see what kind of food they will be serving. The space is very open and includes window paneled walls that lift up to the ceiling for sunny days. There's also a brick fireplace in the middle of the beer house, perfect for snuggling up against on cold winter nights. Another plus (at the time) was that the Kimchi Taco Truck was across the street at McCarren Park. While their kitchen is in the works, you can grab some food from tasty food vendors across the way. Great crowd, seems like a great place to hang with friends and chill out. Checked out the menu as we were there to grab a bit, SERIOUSLY ONLY sausages and brats???? I understand this like a german theme thing, but geez how bout a burger and chicken sandwich on the menu??? they have a salad also on the menu, didn't really think it was my cup of tea. Okay so starving people order food rite? I got a chicken sausage, came with sundried tomato aioli and a "free topping".....this was 8 bucks so take "free" however you want it. This was okay, sausage was tasty and bun was fresh and crispy....but not 8 bucks good!! I got chorizo chili as my topping, on the side because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. YUMM.....chorizo chili was soooo good! Me and the honey split an order of fries which came with a free homemade condiment, we decided on blue cheese bacon walnut mayo (they have some cool choices like sweet and spicy bbq, chipotle aioli and curry chili ancho ketchup). Having grown up in a neighborhood immersed in Asian cuisine, I was curious about less prominent European cuisine of different cultural groups. Spritzenhaus is not authentic German food, but "German-inspired food," according to one of the bar tenders. The ambiance of Spritzenhaus is generally very laid-back and made me feel as if I'm in a giant indoor backyard barbecue. Me and le foodie buddy sat comfortably at the bar. We ordered hotdogs, and some kind of drink that I forgot the name of, but it was really refreshing and uplifting. The bar tender made a mistake with the type of hotdogs in the order and advised me to go to the pick-up station to get it fixed. Chef was annoyed when I told him the error, and hesitated to correct the order. At least it was better than ending up with the erroneous order, which I might not even have enjoyed. The sauces at the Pick-Up station had interesting names and were hipster-ish in their own sakes. Felt that the Hotdogs were not cooked enough and heavy with seasoning. They came loaded with toppings that were foreign to me, but tasted interesting. Although we must have looked silly using forks & knives to eat our hotdogs, but they were HUGE, and thus a messy outcome was easily avoided. Awesome place to enjoy a beer and unwind from the day. I've grown to really appreciate Spritzenhaus, I only wish they were open for lunch hours so I could go there everyday to get my sausage fix and work by the fireplace. Their sausage crushes and the large open room makes it a great place to go with friends or a big group. It gets pretty busy early (7ish) but if you have an early meeting or need a spot to plop down with a laptop they have lots of open tables and outlets plus free wifi. Once it's busy though it does get loud... think beer hall in every sense of the words. I'm all about their sausage but the kale salad is also bomb... bring your veggie friends they have vegan sausage too! The fries are drenched in flour so are NOT gluten free but if you don't have that problem then damn they are good especially with their house sauce. Beverage wise Spritzenhaus is definitely for the beer lover, offering a ton of selections on draft as well as seasonal and a ton of small batch craft beers you probably can't find anywhere else in these parts (plus 4 different gluten-free options!!). They also have a good cocktail list complete with seasonal cocktails and I'm a big fan of their wine carafes... which they offer in quarter liter, half liter or a whole liter. SAUSAGES GALORE!!!!!! Who loves sausage?! They have every kind of organic sausages available to order. They even have vegetarian and vegan sausage options now! My boyfriend and I were lured in by the $15 Beer, Brat, and Shot special. When we sat down and admired the large raw space filled with some of best beer selections in NYC, we decided to fill up on beer and try two Bratwursts. I had the jalapeno one, and he had the Argentinean one. They were both served on a pretzel bread roll, and sauerkraut on top. The only things I would try to improve on, is making the servers aware of he changes in the beer. I ordered my favorite Kostriker beer, which is a dark lager, but what I got was a amber colored beer. Probably my favorite NYC beer garden: - excellent beer selection (obvious), but they have a lot of cocktail/wine selections as well if you come with a group where not everyone is as excited about Kostritzer as you are. - fries and pretzels: best bar food categorically, and Spritzenhaus does both really well. The accompanying range of dipping sauces are an excellent touch. The variety of sausages is also decent, though the prices are on the high side when they aren't coming with any sort of side. - lots of space, plenty of tables (including the ability to reserve them in advance, which, again, is a bonus if you're planning a big group day out), and garage-door style walls which open up wide to the outside on nice days. - Jenga is available. Highly recommended. It doesn't get much better than this for the bar scene. All the people that work here have their own thing going on-- all sorts of interesting characters. Stroll in, enjoy some good banter with the bartenders and the folks around you, sample their small bites and indulge in the extravagant selection of beers. Their cocktails are fun too. There is so much seating room here that it isn't even funny. You are practically guaranteed a spot for you and your friends upon arrival here. Not a bad spot to swing by during the day and sneak some work in (they've got WiFi!). Jenga. Their bathrooms are cool also. I've been here numerous times and know I will find myself here many more times in the future. Definitely take the time to check this spot out when you're in the neighborhood. P.S. I left the meatball spot and my partner in food time!! Took me to this place for the second time. It was a blast.. The kielbasa on a pretzel bun with siracha sauce and Belgium fries was a hit. The perfect compliment to my drink a Manhattan!! It's a great German bar with tons of beer choices. The crowd was mixed and the energy was great. read more

I'm interestingly between a 3 and 4 on this place. A 3 because it has what a number of NYC bars/eateries lack: ample space, ample outside seating, central, right next to a park, open airy spaces, etc. That is great. Some friends and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was totally slammed--most of the clientele appeared to be in their early-mid 20s. And it was paaaaacked. Loud. So, if that's something that you're prepared for and don't mind, the bar itself is quite nice (used to be a fire station, too, I believe). Otherwise, may want to check it out when it's a little less rowdy. read more
