I do want to give a shout out to a few who work together making Black Bear function well. Tiffany, Cindy Ray, the ever enthusiastic Walter, and Sonia. But for the last 15 years, one person who has always shown up and stayed working here is our favorite, Heather. Recently we had a question about which days she works and was told that she was cut to 3 days a week, the reason? She does not have enough reviews. WHAT?? I was more than willing to do a review, I am a Realtor, I get why reviews are important. However, Heather is there working, not randomly calling out on scheduled days, and management can see that her customers love her and request her, what better review is that? It is nice to be recognized and Gary does not even have to order; she knows what he wants (with extra syrup and butter). I always change my food order, but once seated, our drinks are automatically delivered to the table right away, with oranges for my iced tea. As for the food, the bacon is exceptional and no matter what I order, I add bacon. We are usually there for breakfast, but for the occasional dinner, I have discovered the most amazing meatloaf. They actually slice and grill it. But back to Heather... and consider this a review from many people as a great number of my family members go to Black Bear as well; you need to get back on track and appreciate a valuable asset to your team. Sweet kind and patient Heather calls us the VIP's, but really SHE is your VIP at Black Bear!

A memorable first visit to Mariposa…read more This was our family's first visit to Mariposa, and it definitely lived up to its reputation. We started with the grilled octopus, which was an excellent appetizer. For the entrées, the fish of the day (halibut) was outstanding--perfectly cooked with incredible flavor. The forest seafood soup had an absolutely amazing broth, rich and full of flavor. The chicken entrée was also delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. For drinks, the signature Mariposa cocktail was excellent and memorable. The Skinny Margarita and the Smoky Pear were enjoyable but didn't stand out as much as the food. The non-alcoholic drinks were also a hit. We finished with the cheesecake, which was a delicious ending to the meal. What impressed me most was the depth of flavor while still feeling fresh and health-conscious. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and surprisingly fast without making us feel rushed. The only disappointment was not being seated in one of the dining areas with the beautiful view. Since the scenery is one of Mariposa's highlights, I'd recommend requesting a window or patio table when making a reservation. Although it's definitely on the expensive side, I believe it's worth the price because of the exceptional food, outstanding service, and spectacular setting. Would I return? Absolutely. I'd happily order the grilled octopus, the halibut, and the forest seafood soup again.

The atmosphere at Mariposa is always a standout, and sitting at the bar gave me a great view of the space and the energy of the restaurant. I ordered both the Gringo Burger and the Pollo Parilla, with one served with fries and the other with the three‑seed cilantro coleslaw. Everything was well‑prepared and flavorful. The burger was satisfying, the Pollo Parilla had great seasoning, and both sides were solid complements to the dishes. Between the food, the atmosphere, and the service, it was a really great experience overall.

We met some great people while we were there from residents that live there to the people who stayed in the unit next to us. Unit is very quaint and as my wife described it as Rustic chic. The bed was very comfortable and the units kitchen was well stocked for most everything you need. We cooked several breakfasts and one dinner and we had all we needed to complete those tasks. All the people we met and were associated with during our stay were first rate and fun to be around. The owner is committed to true customer service and just an all around nice guy. We will definitely return to Apple Creek on our next trip to Prescott. We did stay in one of the units that had undergone a make over. So much to do and see in the area.

If you are looking for a place for you, and your pet, to catch a few hours of sleep, take a shower…read moreand leave, it's ok. The water is hot, the shower had a nice shower head on it. The parking was close to our room. We hope this place does improve. It has great potential. This is NOT a place to book if you actually want to spend time hanging out, eating, socializing, reading, watching TV, in the room. We stayed in the "original cottage." It was very rustic, and we like that. But, we couldn't spend the time in the room we had planned to. Here is why: 1. Newer furniture is in order, in spades. a. The furniture in our room was VERY, VERY old and worn out. My wife thought the sofa was from the 1970s or 1980s...and is so worn out that there is no support at all when you sink way down into the cushions. We are NOT large people, either. Each of us fit just fine in a vintage sports car. There is no way that I want to sit in the sofa in the room for more than a few uncomfortable minutes. Forget about talking, reading, or watching a movie in our room. b. The one "lounge" chair was so old and worn out that it is about to break apart. The cushions are worn out. After a few short minutes, the chair became a torture mechanism. c. The outdoor chairs are so old, that if one sat in them, it is likely one would crash on the pavement. Are those chairs from the 1960s? 1950s? And, they were filthy. We didn't have a washing machine available to clean our clothes were we to sit on those chairs. 2. One can only get in or out of the bed on one of it's two sides (due to small space). So one has to crawl over one's bed partner to get to the bathroom in the night. But, the lights in the bathroom are bright enough to grow weed, and therefore it's probable your bedmate will be awakened during the night. A night light for the bathroom would have helped a lot. 6. The Wifi access point is mounted to the ceiling within eyeshot of the bed. And, the indicator lights blink ALL night. As a ceiling-mounted device, one can't put something over the device to block the lights. Since the access point appears to me to uses POE (Power Over Ethernet), the owners should relocate that device away from the bed area. 7. The windows are well...so dirty that I doubt they have been cleaned in this century, and maybe never in the last century. Until my stay there, I have never seen cob webs growing INSIDE of window panes. Very Addams Family! 8. There are no screens on the windows, so opening them would not be wise, even it I wanted to touch the windows (and I didn't). And the screen door appears to about 60 years old. It does not close tightly to the frame, and so any attempt to get fresh air, invites flying insects. 9. The parking was very easy from our room, so it made it faster to load and unload our things, and our pet to/from the room. 10. If you have a dog, the grassy area is nice, and the poop can nearby was great. We always pick up after our dog, so the close-by can was great. 10. This is a "virtual" motel. No staff on-site. Phone support is in the USA, and was very polite. If that's something you like, you will be fine. If you want to get human, face-to-face service, this won't be your cup of tea. TO THE OWNERS: An excellent recommendation from my wife-The owners and managers should each spend at least 3 days/nights, in a row, in our room. That will give them a good task list to make the place much better for future guests. Again, we hope this place does improve. It has great potential.

The place was buzzing and it was quite comfortable inside despite being 110° outside ! They were busy, but I was seated right away. They gave me a choice of a booth, a table or sitting at the bar and I chose a booth. Everyone was very nice and the place was in fantastic shape my server Alana came over and got me very familiarized with the menu and I actually ordered the same thing I had four years ago except instead of having egg whites, I have my eggs over well with hash browns which have a little bit of onion in them turkey sausage, and hot cakes. I also had a cup of hot coffee and it was good and hot as well. Everything came out right away and it was delicious. I had a little Tabasco on the side. If we're in the Scottsdale area for whatever reason, hiking golfing ice-skating, but just to relax I highly recommend you and your family stop by the breakfast Joynt. You will definitely not be disappointed.L

I'm salivating just recounting this meal The service was just as amazing. Andrea was the kindest, most bubbly, and caring waitress I've ever had. She made the whole experience feel welcoming and special. You can tell she genuinely enjoys her job, and it really adds to the experience. The restaurant itself is clean, cheerful, and bright, with turquoise walls that instantly lift your mood.
