What an amazing evening to remember. My husband and I were so happy to finally get reservations at Mariposa when visiting Sedona. Today when arriving we were greeted when driving up to park by the breathtaking views of the amazing Red Rock Mountains and Greenery. The restaurant itself is stunning. There is someone at the outside patio area to greet you and ask for your reservation information. Once you give that info the doors to the restaurant open for you to enter to be escorted to your seat. The restaurant decor as the outdoor seating is beautiful. The staff there were all so Welcoming and attentive. We were helped right away. We were served water immediately and given the menus as well as explained specials. We ordered as an appetizer Shrimp cocktail . Dinner Skirt Steak with Potatoes Lamb Chops Side of Corn Side of Asparagus My husband and I had no complaints at all at the choice of food we picked. Portions are on the larger size and food was cooked to perfection. The views were to die for. This is one place that everyone should experience when visiting Sedona . What a wonderful experience we had at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill. Not only does the food deserve credit, but also the wait and bussing staff, all of which made the overall dining experience nothing less than outstanding! It was our first time there, but we did have fairly high expectations, because we had dined twice before at their sister restaurant, Dahl & DiLuca, which were equally wonderful dining experiences for us. To add to Mariposas perfectly prepared great food and service, the view from their hill perch, through their floor to ceiling windows facing beautiful red rock formations, is an experience unto itself, with the sun creating highlights and shadows that constantly change during sunset. Service seemed a little slow paced/nonchalant for a restaurant of this caliber but we had a rsvp and had no issue getting in on time. For a busy Saturday night we got our food in a timely manner too. The main dining room was a little warm but overall 4/5 experience. The cheesecake is a MUST try. We went for an anniversary dinner but there is no free dessert, just a nice little chocolate medallion that said happy anniversary. Overall, the food was excellent -- honestly, a solid 10/10. Every dish was tasty, well-seasoned, cooked properly, and came out hot. The sides were just as good, and I really had no complaints about the food, which is almost suspiciously impressive. The atmosphere was also very nice. The restaurant had an open, airy feel with beautiful window views, good lighting, and plenty of cool art throughout. The bathroom was clean, which is always appreciated, and the automatic toilets were a nice touch -- because apparently even the bathroom was trying harder than the service. The Oak Creek Nut Brown beer on tap was delicious and definitely worth mentioning and nearly worked on me like a PDE-5. Service, however, was where things started to fall off. I'd give it around a 5/10, though we'll be generous and call that "average." We saw our waiter maybe three or four times during the entire visit, and getting water refills required multiple requests. Not the end of the world, but definitely noticeable. Overall, the food and ambiance were great, but the service kept the experience from matching the quality of the kitchen. Food: 10/10. I was visiting Sedona as a tourist and had heard so many great things about this restaurant, so I was excited to celebrate my birthday here. I even joined the waitlist in hopes of getting a table. When we arrived, the gentleman at the front was kind, welcoming, and genuinely tried to help us. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of our experience. We were seated at what felt like the worst table in the restaurant--right next to the bar and the service station/entrance, with constant traffic around us. I had mentioned that we were celebrating my birthday, but there was no effort to accommodate us or make the occasion feel special. What disappointed me the most was the hostess's attitude. She was extremely rude throughout the interaction. When I politely asked for her name, she refused to tell me, which only made the experience more frustrating. I understand that restaurants can be busy, and I don't expect special treatment. However, I do expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Based on my experience, I would not return, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. I hope management takes guest service more seriously, because hospitality should be just as important as the food. read more

It's tough not to give Mariposa less than 5 stars, but we had a few disappointments last night. First of all, Ciara was great. She was personable, knowledgeable and provided great service. We had the shrimp cocktail (fabulous) and Caesar salad (perfect) which both came out in a timely manner. Then we waited, and waited, and waited....and waited, 40 minutes for our main course. Because it's a busy restaurant and we were enjoying our wine and the beautiful views, we weren't too upset with the wait. However, when the food arrived, our steaks were not cooked as we ordered. We ordered medium rare, and what we received was medium to medium well. Our mushrooms and potatoes were decadent. Because of the long wait for the food, and plans we had for after dinner, we did not send the steaks back, but we did let our server know they were not up to standards. We've eaten at Mariposa several times and have always had perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth filets in the past. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake with salted caramel gelato (heavy but delightful) and we were treated to a light anniversary dessert that was very good. I'd give the food around a 3/5, it was good, but honestly didn't quite live up to the expectations. The dishes were enjoyable, but nothing really stood out! A must visit when in Sedona! Located in a tucked off location away from the strip malls it has the most beautiful view of the mountains and has plenty of seating all around the restaurant and patio. We were able to secure a late night reservation but this place is pretty popular so I would definitely book in advance so you can get the sunset view while having dinner. They have a parking lot so it's easy to get to. The service was impeccable! So personable and considerate of the timing and pace of the dishes. Our group enjoys dining family style so they were on it making sure we had clean plates and extra plates for sharing as well. We ordered (wish I had more photos and videos) - Ribeye cooked medium rare with chimmichurri but was a little tough in texture not the greatest cut of meat but still was tolerable. - Lobster mashed potatoes had a citrusy aftertaste likely from lemon but loved it to cut through the buttery taste of the lobster and mashed potatoes - Mushroom Empanadas were flakey and full of flavor - Yucca Fries 10/10 so crispy and fluffy at the same time I loved the Parmesan on top and the dipping sauce - Roasted Cauliflower was cooked perfectly loved the dipping - Prickly Pear Cheesecake was not too sweet and loved the crust read more

Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill We arrived as a group of 7 and with high expectations for this place. Maybe because of my expectations, the whole experience at the end was a little disappointing. We were greeted by an older lady at the front, picking her ear and trying to get whatever was underneath her fingernails after her ear picking. I got the impression that she must feel comfortable working there. We were led to outside patio, and the scenic view was beautiful and captivating. I think my neck is sore from crane necking and checking out the views throughout the whole dining experience. The cocktails were nice, but not memorable. The appetizers were good and they were all memorable, the empanadas, shrimp ceviche, and yuca fries. As for the entree, I ordered el gaucho with chorizo link and I was disappointed. The quality of the skirt steak was good, and that was about it. The steak was cut messy (uneven thickness and sizes) and flavor of everything else on the plate wasn't impressive. I thought that care wasn't there, the entrees felt rushed. I would recommend this place to others because it's worth experiencing for yourself at least once. Lunch time, if you want to enjoy the view while the sun is still up. Dinner time, if you care more about the food (my friends and I only had lunch here, but I am assuming dinner is better because our server's response was, we only serve this and that for dinner and not for lunch. She said it proudly too). Try it and let me know of your experience. Be careful driving at night time. As for myself, I will remember Mariposa as a restaurant with a nice scenic view. We had a very memorable meal at Mariposa - the location has amazing views and the food and service were terrific. I started off with order of yuca fries and grilled octopus which were both fantastic - the octopus in particular was very tender with a nice char. My main was the Vaquero which was a skirt steak with chimichurri with potatoes and black beans. The skirt steak had a good beefy flavor cooked medium rare, with a good char and was nicely accompanied with the chimichurri. The Australian lamb chops were cooked perfectly--tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ribeye was rich and juicy, and the Vaquero was equally delicious. We also shared the filet beef and chef's Elote empanadas, both of which were excellent. The yuca fries were crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the triple queso mac and cheese was a big hit with the kids. The sauce was so delicious. We ordered extra bread. We spilt fish of the day, Halibut. Cooked to perfection served with a tomato based sauce and couscous. This restaurant has the most amazing view just in the parking lot. We couldn't find any reservations since we only did less than a week out so we called them and they were able to put us at a high table in the bar area. The service was excellent and the food was good. I didn't get their shrimp ceviche , it tasted more of a wet shrimp cocktail and the shrimp they used were tiny so it didn't seem like it was good quality. THIS will be the meal we remember from our trip to Sedona. It was a bit too hot, we thought, to eat outdoors, although they do have misters on the patio portion. But they seated us at a table inside with a lovely view. The service was exceptional. We started with a bottle of wine, and they brought us a big bucket chiller. I have always wanted to stop by this restaurant, but it never really worked out because it was either booked or my schedule did not lineup. My husband and I were moving through Sedona on our way to Flagstaff around lunchtime so the star is aligned and we were able to eat here on patio. The views were amazing. It was a great day. The red rocks were beautiful. The drinks that we ordered were good and the food was good as well. The only gripe that I do have about my food was that the steak that I had was a little grizzly so I had to cut half of the fat off in order to eat it but the chimichurri sauce that was on the steak was amazing. The place does have a dress code so we made sure we changed before we went there because we were hiking in the morning, but when we walked in, we realized that they don't enforce the dress code and that people were just wearing whatever so we were kind of annoyed by that. It's been voted in the top 1% of date night restaurants nationwide, and after dining here, I can see why. Mariposa lived up to the hype of the stunningly beautiful red rock views. The restaurant was beautiful, displaying all different forms of art, just looking around at all the decor was a treat. We made reservations well in advance and when we arrived our reservation time was honored. We ate in the main dining room, and the ambient temperature was not set correctly as it was very warm. After reading all the reviews and looking over the menu, we had high expectations. Our intentions were for Brunch, however after our appetizers we decided to throw in the towel and try somewhere else. We ordered Ceviche de Camarones, Latin Persuasion Bruschetta's and drinks. The Ceviche sauce tasted like sweetened ketchup and the quality of the shrimp was mid at best, underwhelming. The Brushettas were 4 tostada chips (the same ones used for the Camarones) covered with a thick layer of their peppadew cheese spread which was pretty much just pimento and topped haphazardly with the rest of the ingredients. The description lists selection of cured meats, olive tapenade, and artichoke hearts. There was not a selection of cured meats it was all what looked like torn up ham from the grocery store deli, about 1/4 teaspoon of olive tapenade and no artichoke hearts that I could find. It was topped with a candied date which was good, but it was in a strip and probably would've been better served chopped to get a little in each bite. The appetizers came out really fast. The service was just ok, perhaps the server was new,not welcoming nor did they make any recommendations, just there. We left disappointed, would I say don't try it, probably not, have a glass of wine or a cocktail, enjoy the scenery and try it out for yourself. read more

Exquisite dining experience. People really talk up the views -- and they're nothing to sneeze at -- but views alone don't make for an excellent restaurant. Mariposa is the real thing. Went with a pretty large group (10 people) -- definitely make a reservation, especially if you're a group. We went on the early side, and it was full up by the time we left. As we were in a group, we shared appetizers -- and within about a minute of getting our main courses, were reaching over each other to try each others' dishes. Appetizers: Yucca fries are a must-include. Light, not greasy with a delicious dipping sauce. We also ordered a mix of empanadas and a salad or two. Definitely recommend getting a mix of apps to share. Main courses: I ordered the chicken, which was incredible. The curry flavor made it pop, and there was a little bit of heat to it; just enough to get my attention but not overwhelm. You need to order your veggies on the side -- we had the brussels sprouts/sweet potato hash, mashed potatoes, kale, corn -- you could almost just order all the veggie sides and have the best meal you had in a while! We had a child with us who had the mac n cheese, and she generously let us try it -- it's delicious but very rich; some of it will definitely come home with you! Two people got desserts (we had a birthday in the group!) -- tres leches cake (YUM) and a spiced chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream. Honestly, one dish, one course was better than the next. The minute we planned our girls' weekend getaway to Sedona, I started hunting for the best places to eat -- and Mariposa Latin Grill kept popping up everywhere. We booked a Saturday lunch and walked in right on time. Nestled at the foothills of the red rocks, this place truly has a vibe of its own. We were seated immediately, and the service was amazing and super fast. For appetizers, we ordered the bruschetta and yucca fries along with crafted cocktails. The bruschetta was unlike the classic Italian version -- it came on a fried taco, and the sweet drop pepper, almond, and cheese combo was so good we ordered it again. The cocktails were some of the best I've had in a while -- the Mariposa and the Cocoruna (with that delicious coconut base!) were standout favorites. For mains, we tried the Tacos, Primo, and Nirvana. The tacos were fresh on corn tortillas, the Primo was my absolute favorite with its juicy grilled portobello mushroom, and the Nirvana with a quinoa filling was an interesting twist. We ended with the coconut flan -- perfectly caramelized on top with crispy fried coconut adding the best finishing touch. Not a crumb left! Overall, the food is outstanding, the service impeccable, and the prices surprisingly reasonable for such quality -- especially considering everything else has gone up with inflation. What a beautiful day and dining experience at Mariposa in Sedona. We took a chance after our hike to stop by and see if we could get in without a reservation. Anne who is simply amazing and the face of Mariposa was so gracious and kind. Anne remembered us from the night prior as we celebrated my birthday and Anne not only checked us in but helped me secure a parking space. What a terrific person. Anne checked us in for lunch and Sara took us to a lovely view table. The staff here as amazing. First Luis stopped by and we ordered a bottle of still water. Next our server Manuel stopped by and introduced himself and was the utmost professional and so kind and efficient. We ordered drinks with my wife having a mojito and I had a bloody Mary. Both drinks were superb. We also ordered the empanadas. Genaro brought out the empanadas and what an amazing individual. Manuel stopped by and asked if we were ready for the entrees and we so ordered with my wife selecting the Gringo Burger and I had the skirt steak which comes with black beans, yucca fries, slaw and fixings. Once again Genaro came and delivered our entrees and explained in detail each dish and ensured the temperature was correct. Genaro, Manuel and Luis made a superb service team and are all stellar professionals with goal oriented vision and a commitment to excellence. Lisa Dahl has some amazing eateries here in Sedona and I must say that her staff shines in every way to promote excellence. We chatted with our service team and can surely tell that they love their positions and that they are part of the family. They also treat you like you are part of their family. Anne sets the tone for excellence the minute you walk up to Mariposa, whether at the gate entry or host area she is a key to the restaurant's success this I can tell. As a former restaurant manager back in my college days before getting in to my government career I have so learned to appreciate the service that these amazing people provide. Eight years ago, I judged the Four Peaks Burger Battle in Scottsdale, and the Funghi Sublime was my pick to win--and it took home the Judge's Choice Award. Today, I finally made it to Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill to try it again. Happy to report it was every bit as good as I remembered.
