Absolutely loved our experience at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, inviting, and just a little special. The restaurant has a beautiful energy to it--upscale enough for a nice night out, but still relaxed and welcoming. The food was outstanding. Everything we tried was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with care. You can really taste the Latin inspiration in the dishes, but there's also a creative, elevated touch that makes the menu feel unique rather than predictable. What really made the experience memorable, though, was the hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever making us feel rushed. Great service can completely change a dining experience, and Mariposa absolutely gets that right. This is the kind of restaurant you leave already thinking about when you can come back. ​Mariposa is a breathtaking restaurant with stunning indoor and outdoor seating, but for the price point, our experience was a bit of a mixed bag. ​The Starters & Drinks We kicked off the night with the Beef Empanadas, a Classic/Skinny Margarita, and the signature Mariposa cocktail. The empanadas were hands-down fantastic, I would honestly come back just for those! The crust was soft yet firm, amazingly fresh, and served with a delicious chimichurri sauce and a second yellow sauce that was also great. ​The Mains & Sides ​Australian Rack of Lamb: Cooked to a perfect medium and presented beautifully. This was my first time trying Australian lamb chops, and they did not disappoint. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce plated directly with the lamb, but dipping it in the extra chimichurri solved that easily. ​Filet Mignon: Perfectly cooked to medium and tasted great. ​Sides: We had the Frijoles Negros and the Mac & Cheese. The mac was a bit too sauce-heavy for my taste, coming across a little thick and gritty but my wife loved it. ​Dessert We ended the night with the churros. My first bite was a surprise, the texture is much denser, almost like a cookie, compared to a classic Disney churro (or our favorite back home, Olé Churros in Las Vegas). While I wasn't a fan at first, the flavor grew on me as I dipped them in the chocolate sauce, and we ended up finishing the plate. ​The Service & Experience Where Mariposa really fell flat for us was the service. We ordered our appetizer and drinks right when our server came over, but he didn't return to take our dinner order for about 15 minutes. Throughout the night, there was no offer for round two on cocktails, and our waters weren't refilled until the very end of the meal when we were already ready to leave. ​We were visiting to celebrate our anniversary, but we were never greeted with a "first time here?" or asked if we were celebrating anything special. Dessert options weren't even brought up, we had to ask about the churros ourselves after seeing them brought out to another table. ​Final Thoughts Food is fantastic! Fantastic food and an excellent cocktail list ,every drink we tried was genuinely delicious. We sat on the patio, which offers stunning panoramic views of Sedona all around. It's one of the best backdrops you can get for photos. Service was excellent, attentive, and friendly.The only issue is if you have a larger group, be prepared. For some reason, they don't put tables together for parties of eight. The patio only has two high‑top tables that seat that many, and those were extremely hot . Overall, the food was excellent -- honestly, a solid 10/10. Every dish was tasty, well-seasoned, cooked properly, and came out hot. The sides were just as good, and I really had no complaints about the food, which is almost suspiciously impressive. The atmosphere was also very nice. I'd give it around a 5/10, though we'll be generous and call that "average." We saw our waiter maybe three or four times during the entire visit, and getting water refills required multiple requests. It's tough not to give Mariposa less than 5 stars, but we had a few disappointments last night. First of all, Ciara was great. She was personable, knowledgeable and provided great service. We had the shrimp cocktail (fabulous) and Caesar salad (perfect) which both came out in a timely manner. Then we waited, and waited, and waited....and waited, 40 minutes for our main course. Because it's a busy restaurant and we were enjoying our wine and the beautiful views, we weren't too upset with the wait. However, when the food arrived, our steaks were not cooked as we ordered. We ordered medium rare, and what we received was medium to medium well. Our mushrooms and potatoes were decadent. Because of the long wait for the food, and plans we had for after dinner, we did not send the steaks back, but we did let our server know they were not up to standards. We've eaten at Mariposa several times and have always had perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth filets in the past. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake with salted caramel gelato (heavy but delightful) and we were treated to a light anniversary dessert that was very good. I made a reservation almost a month ahead of our visit and the times we wanted were already booked so we did an earlier dinner than expected. When we arrived, parking was vast and the views were amazing! There were lots of picture opportunities outside of the restaurant and we took full advantage of another party's waiter for our pictures. When we got seated we were seated outside next to their huge fire pit which had a lovely ambiance. It did get a little chilly but it was still so perfect outside. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and explained the drinks and menu. She was so sweet. We ordered these cocktails to start off our night: *Smokey Pear *1920 *Housemade Sangria Then for appetizers and entrees we ordered this: *Handmade empanadas (filet of beef) *Mejillones de chorizo *Yuca fries *Vaquero Our steaks were cooked to perfection! What an amazing evening to remember. My husband and I were so happy to finally get reservations at Mariposa when visiting Sedona. Today when arriving we were greeted when driving up to park by the breathtaking views of the amazing Red Rock Mountains and Greenery. The restaurant itself is stunning. There is someone at the outside patio area to greet you and ask for your reservation information. Once you give that info the doors to the restaurant open for you to enter to be escorted to your seat. The restaurant decor as the outdoor seating is beautiful. The staff there were all so Welcoming and attentive. We were helped right away. We were served water immediately and given the menus as well as explained specials. The elote corn, lemon mashed potatoes, salad and mac & cheese were also delicious. The wine situation was a little frustrating. I asked our waiter about an $82 half bottle of Mt. Veeder, and he recommended the Jordan for $130, saying it was a much better value. We went with his recommendation, only to find out the Jordan was actually $155 when the bill came. I really wish he had told us the correct price before we ordered it. That definitely rubbed me the wrong way. For dinner, my husband ordered the pork chop and loved it. My daughter and I split the ribeye, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment--very fatty, chewy, and undercooked. We each took a few bites and basically gave up. For the price of the meal, I expected much better. The waiter did bring us a complimentary dessert since we were celebrating our daughter's upcoming wedding, which was a very nice and thoughtful gesture. Would I come back? Yes. The setting is gorgeous, the atmosphere is special, and we had a wonderful evening spending time with our daughters. But be prepared to spend $$$. A must visit when in Sedona! Located in a tucked off location away from the strip malls it has the most beautiful view of the mountains and has plenty of seating all around the restaurant and patio. We were able to secure a late night reservation but this place is pretty popular so I would definitely book in advance so you can get the sunset view while having dinner. They have a parking lot so it's easy to get to. The service was impeccable! So personable and considerate of the timing and pace of the dishes. Our group enjoys dining family style so they were on it making sure we had clean plates and extra plates for sharing as well. I think my neck is sore from crane necking and checking out the views throughout the whole dining experience. The cocktails were nice, but not memorable. The appetizers were good and they were all memorable, the empanadas, shrimp ceviche, and yuca fries. As for the entree, I ordered el gaucho with chorizo link and I was disappointed. The quality of the skirt steak was good, and that was about it. The steak was cut messy (uneven thickness and sizes) and flavor of everything else on the plate wasn't impressive. I thought that care wasn't there, the entrees felt rushed. I would recommend this place to others because it's worth experiencing for yourself at least once. Lunch time, if you want to enjoy the view while the sun is still up. Dinner time, if you care more about the food (my friends and I only had lunch here, but I am assuming dinner is better because our server's response was, we only serve this and that for dinner and not for lunch. She said it proudly too). Try it and let me know of your experience. Be careful driving at night time. As for myself, I will remember Mariposa as a restaurant with a nice scenic view. The skirt steak had a good beefy flavor cooked medium rare, with a good char and was nicely accompanied with the chimichurri. I was visiting Sedona as a tourist and had heard so many great things about this restaurant, so I was excited to celebrate my birthday here. I even joined the waitlist in hopes of getting a table. We were seated at what felt like the worst table in the restaurant--right next to the bar and the service station/entrance, with constant traffic around us. I had mentioned that we were celebrating my birthday, but there was no effort to accommodate us or make the occasion feel special. What disappointed me the most was the hostess's attitude. She was extremely rude throughout the interaction. When I politely asked for her name, she refused to tell me, which only made the experience more frustrating. I understand that restaurants can be busy, and I don't expect special treatment. However, I do expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Based on my experience, I would not return, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. Came here yesterday for lunch. Beautiful location. The red mountains were stunning!!! The food was good we had chorizo empanadas and Cuban sandwich. Priced ok. The service was a little slow with only 2 servers with many tables occupied. But the worst is the flies inside the restaurant and us having to fight them away from our food. We had to ask them to give us a fly swatter. Seem like the servers there didn't care about them. They should put something by their doors to keep flies from coming in. read more
