After reading several reviews, I decided to give Northern Pines a try, and I'm glad I did. One thing to know before you go: many older reviews mention that breakfast is served all day, but that's no longer the case. If you're planning on breakfast for dinner, you'll need to adjust your expectations. That said, the dinner more than made up for it. I ordered the ribeye and had them top it with a couple of over-easy eggs. The steak was cooked perfectly--exactly the temperature I requested--and was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The runny yolks made an already excellent steak even better. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient without feeling rushed. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it an easy choice whether you're a local or just passing through Flagstaff. Northern Pines has clearly earned its reputation for quality comfort food. Even though the all-day breakfast is a thing of the past, the dinner menu stands on its own. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Flagstaff. read more

We went for a Thanksgiving day meal. The place looks nice, but that's where it ends. The food was plated in a manner that would think you are getting a lot of food but you're not. Your basic breakfasts are really good here. Staff is helpful and very friendly. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The hash browns were excellent. The chicken fried steak was not good. It was tough and overcooked. I did let the staff know and they removed it from the bill, which i thought was generous of them because I ate the eggs and hash browns. We were here for dinner. It's very close to our hotel. When we walked in at 5:15pm, there are already quite few tables customers there, outside and indoor. We were seated immediately and ordered, he got a beef pasta and i got a honey glazed trout. The side dish is the best, sautéed veggie, delicious! The fish is firm chewy and a little too sweet to my taste, the lemon pieces on top of the fish is sautéed with honey, i felt like i can put it in my cup for a lemon honey tea! We also had their 3 berry pie. They have so many different kind of pie, total 15! Unbelievable! They also accepts outside orders! The pie is great! Dinner here felt very much like a Marie Callender's or Coco's style place. Classic, casual, comfortable, and straightforward. Warm lighting, traditional décor, and an easygoing diner vibe. Nothing trendy or upscale, just a familiar sit down comfort food atmosphere. I ordered the shrimp dinner and substituted my side of southwest coleslaw for french onion soup, although the slaw was brought out anyway. The coleslaw was not for me. It had bell peppers mixed in, which was unexpected, and I'm not entirely convinced that automatically makes something "southwest." The shrimp itself was solid, and the cocktail sauce was a standout. It tasted fresh and house made rather than bottled, which I appreciated. My husband ordered the pot roast and really enjoyed it. He said the flavor was excellent and very comforting, though the dish could have been served hotter. The diced hatch chile mashed potatoes came extra, it was noticeably lukewarm, which was disappointing since temperature matters a lot with this type of meal. Service was consistently good. The staff was polite, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. Drinks were refilled, and everything moved along smoothly. And the proprietor is the 'clever' sort who just can't roll inflationary costs into the prices. They have to grandstand about their need for surcharges. After a long drive from Kanab and shopping at Sam's Club, hubs and I were ready for a late lunch/early dinner. We weren't going to be too particular, but we wanted some place to sit down and relax. This restaurant is attached to The Kendrick hotel. We were seated in the bar area and waited on by the bar tender/server. She was friendly and kept calling hubs "hun." We popped in on a roadtrip and I'm so glad we stopped in Flagstaff to visit for lunch! It is right off the 40 and is so easy to jump back on the interstate, too. The broccoli cheese soup was so silky smooth and the French onion soup was savory & delicious. One of my kiddos said their chicken fried steak is the best he's ever eaten! My husband and I both had the pork taco salad and we both loved it. My kiddo who ordered the turkey avocado parm melt lamented not adding bacon to the sandwich, but it was also so good. Both kiddos ordered a slice of pie since we were on a road trip so why not. The French silk pie and warm apple pie were both declared amazing. Our server was Jeremiah and he was really helpful to our table. Stopped at the Northern pines for a late breakfast on the way home leaving Flagstaff. We had a breakfast quesadilla, scrambled eggs with bacon and lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries. The staff were very attentive, the food came out hot and delicious. The pancakes were fluffy and you could taste the lemon and the ricotta. The blueberry sauce was not too sweet. My husband and I had lunch at The Northern Pines Restaurant and I ordered the Cobb salad and my husband ordered a veggie omelette with an English muffin and a side of cottage cheese. If I were doing the rating based on just my salad, I would give them three stars. The chicken was so dry it was barely edible and the green mix could have been fresher. The bacon was delicious and they gave you a nice portion as well as the blue cheese. My husband loved his omelette and said it was five stars. He said it had plenty of veggies and was cooked perfect. For the record, any place that I'm going to review starts at 5 stars. So when I give less than 5, that place, IMO, has earned it. This is the case at Northern Pines. We walked in and there were more empty dirty tables than there were clean. You basically get what isn't dirty at that moment. My beautiful bride happened to notice on the register a notice that tells us they will be adding a 13 percent charge to our bill because, Flagstaff! That is irritating. But we were here, so we are going to eat. We will deal with the charge (just adjust your menu please). Wife ordered a spinach salad, me a chef's salad. My chef came with changes that were not disclosed. The menu stated, as most chefs do, that it came with ham and turkey. Traditionally, it has sliced cold lunch meats. Mine came with bacon bits and warm chicken chunks. Although not life threatening, it really wasn't what I ordered. I ate it. It was ok. Wife's spinach salad was, again, ok. What she did not care for was the spinach still had the stems intact. You would think with the 13 percent imposed increase someone could take a quick minute and de-stem the spinach. Guess not. Was the place horrible? No. But I don't think it would be high on a list of return business, at least not for me. A hard earned 3-stars. read more

He ordered the sirloin. Sadly the baked potatoes were a 40 minute wait so she brought him a sample of the baked potatoes soup. He went with the loaded mashed potatoes as his side. This restaurant is attached to a hotel (we were staying at the nearby Holiday Inn-walking distance) but has entrances outside the hotel. They had a beautiful pie case! We came here and ordered pork chops for takeout. The waitstaff who took my order was nice. They told me it would take about 20 minutes. 15 minutes later my pork chops were ready and I took it back to the hotel. I don't know what they did, but the pork chops tasted and looked like chicken alfredo pasta. The pork chop had a texture like chicken. I almost dreamed like I was eating a rotini pasta with an alfredo sauce. Nothing like a pork chop that I've ever had! The pork chop tasted so afredoey, that I decided to take a Lactaid pill just in case. Yeah, they gave me the wrong order, and we didn't discover it until we got back to the hotel.
