We were recently here for four nights and overall, a great stay! There's lots to like about this…read moreplace. I'll start with the highlights. First, everything is beautiful (and new). Whoever designed this, I'd like to come redo my apartment. From the entrance, to the rooms, to the spa area everything was gorgeous and you can tell a lot of care and detail went into designing it. Second, the staff members are all amazing. Valet especially but also in the restaurant, at the front desk as well as the spa...a super great team. We had a balcony room and that was gorgeous...I loved all the arts and craft design themes in the woodwork, the view was gorgeous and the room was comfortable overall. The fireplace was beautiful but in July, not much need for it. Would definitely be cozy in the winter. The pool area is very nice and it's a great idea to have two hot tubs. We loved going down at night to enjoy a soak. There's also a firepit by the hot tubs. The beach area is nice and there is equipment you can use (paddleboards, kayaks). Meals were good as well. We enjoyed just about everything we had. The only meal that was just okay was steak frites one night. The steak was very bland, the portion was tiny and it was more expensive than what I pay in Manhattan but I would say the desserts more than made up for it. We had a strawberry rhubarb mousse and a Dubai chocolate cheesecake and both were phenomenal. This is a newish place, I think just under a year old so there may be some opportunity for continued enhancement. They seemed a bit understaffed, especially in the restaurant and that led to some longer wait times and the wait staff having to wear multiple hats to serve, take orders, bus and refill water. I liked the shower but it would be great to have an option other than just the rainfall showerhead. A handheld shower head or an angled showerhead coming out of the wall would be helpful. Definitely there is a need for an outdoor shower or at least a spigot by the pool so people can rinse off the sand from the beach. Everyone who came from the beach just rinsed off feet, toys, etc. in the pool which made it look a bit dirty. A sparkling clean pool is much more inviting and the signs when you come into the pool area even say you need to be rinsed off to use the pool but there's nothing available to help with that. One of the workers said that had been a request from many guests. I'd be interested to understand how this place wants to be positioned. On the website, it seems to be pitched as a serene, relaxing location and it seems targeted towards adults, which was just what I was looking for...a calm, relaxing getaway. But when we were there, it seemed more like it was targeted as a family resort. That's fine but there was absolutely no relaxing by the pool during the day as it was taken over by kids who were having fun and being loud...but that's expected by kids at a pool. All the kids were very well-behaved and their parents were attentive. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about kids, but it would be good to be clear what the vibe is. For example, I wouldn't go to Great Wolf Lodge and expect it to be peaceful. It's just important to know what you're getting so expectations are aligned appropriately. My goal was a peaceful, relaxing stay and though I enjoyed being here, it was neither peaceful nor relaxing (except for the 90 minutes I was at the spa). This review got longer than I anticipated. I'll wrap it up by saying this is a gorgeous place to stay, I'm just not sure who the target audience is.

But we found that they're justified to charge it! We didn't book until about a month already of time, for the Saturday of Father's Day weekend. Mani/pedi weren't available due to a wedding party having booked the salon services. So all I booked for us was a regular massage for me and a salt massage for her. Each was well over $200., plus tax and gratuities, but what they offer is amazing. We arrived 90 minutes earlier than our appointment time and were escorted into the locker room and through the premises. We'd brought bathing suits and changed in the well-appointed locker room and locked our belongings in lockers. Took advantage of the hot tub, the beautiful lounges with infused waters and an assortment of high end teas, sat in the sauna...the grounds are exquisite, the parking lot spacious. But the amenities that come with the services (massage, facial) are: robe and slippers, towels, individually wrapped brush, comb, shampoo/conditioner/shower wash/hair elastic, body lotion...not sure if I inadvertently omitted something? We'd have stayed the afternoon except we were hungry. So we showered, dressed, checked out and went to Laconia NH just up the road. It was a morning of pure luxury and our massages were superb, very professional masseuses. A splurge, yes, but at least we feel that they give you your money's worth.

To me, a cotton quilt, great walk-in shower, shades and windows that worked without problems and Puffs tissues (instead of the cheap stuff) were all welcome amenities. The area offers so much too. Great restaurants and shopping, water nearby. We took the Mt. Washington sunset cruise and drove to the Wright World War ll museum and have had nice massages at the Cascades. All in all, this is one the nicest of all the many B&B's we've visited.

Since i had some credit to be used for hotel stay we decided to get a scenic sweets with king bed which is best and most expensive room available at the Inn. When we got there no one was there and an envelope left with my name and instruction for parkings and room with a map. It was bit difficult to navigate since it was dark but we manage to find the parking and grabbed our stuff and went up to the room with our code. Room was spacious and cozy. Building seemed to be old but seemed to be renovated and bathroom was nice and clean. Once we got settled we start to notice bugs flying, stuck on furniture, by the window and on the ceiling. Since it's in the woods i understand if it's 1 or 2 but it was more like 10+. I had to get rid of them myself because no one was around and was bothering my partner since she was afraid of bugs. Managed to somehow sleep through the night despite noise of annoying heater and bugs flying against the window and curtains. Next day, We woke up early to leave for hiking for the day. I left a message on the number they had for service to informed the management of the situation and to have them resolve it during the day as we would be out for the day. We spent most of the day out and we returned hoping that situation has resolved. Unfortunately within few minutes of arriving i once again noticed bugs flying and had to deal with them myself because place becomes empty at 8:00pm and does not have front desk or personal after 8:00pm which is odd for a hotel. We were too tired to deal with the issue so we just left for bed. Next day when we checked out I was going to talk to the staff but they are always in and out and office was open but no one was there so I decided to send message again to the text asking for them to fix the problem for next customer and request some kind of compensation for dealing with this issue and not having it resolved during our stay. Unfortunately they declined refund or any form of compensation. With the experience we had and the poor customer service I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Other reviews seemed to indicate decline in service after change in management which may be the reason. I did want to like the place and i did give a fair chance but i will not be returning here.

Kevin and Jen no longer own the Inn. The owner is never present and they don't serve breakfast anymore. It's grab and go, choice of 2 pastries an apple and coffee/tea. The staff was very nice and no issues there. At night it turns out there is no staff there. They rotate a staff member between 3 properties every few hours until 11:00. Also, we were on a 40th anniversary 3 week road trip and this is the only place we stayed that didn't even acknowledge it was our anniversary.The restaurant is still very good and the rooms are nice and we always stay in the suite with a beautiful view. Well, that's because hospitality at this fabulous inn does not extend solely to guests, but also to visitors, even the kind who pop in unannounced. My mother-in-law spent many summers in Meredith as a child in the 1960's! Her great aunt owned the house at the time. She told us stories of running around the wrap-around porch and falling down the stairs and breaking a toe (). Darryl took time to welcome us and allow us a tour as well as time to relive her memories. The beautiful wrap around porch still exists, now with an incredible porch added to enjoy the incredible view. The inn is absolutely beautiful. Darryl then went so far as to offer us WONDERFUL pumpkin muffins made that morning and they were DELICIOUS! This was our first visit to Meredith-- we were in town for a wedding. We have a reservation confirmation and that our reservation deposit was accepted on our credit card. We found that later a credit was posted to our credit card from the Ballard House. We called and spoke with Samantha, who answers their phone, but she could not give us any reason, whether another room was open, or who to speak to about this. She said an email was sent, but we received nothing from them (nothing in our spam box ). BEWARE. You may arrive and have no place to stay because they arbitrarily canceled a reservation they accepted. Very poor business practice
