They also have a ping pong table outside, which adds to the fun and relaxed atmosphere while you wait or hang out after your meal. The food was spectacular. Everything tasted fresh and was prepared perfectly. The egg rolls are an absolute must as an appetizer--they were one of the highlights of the meal. I ordered the ribeye, and it was juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly right. Our waitress, a blonde young woman, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better with her excellent service. The Square Grouper is a must visit when visiting the Keys. There was an hour wait when we first attempted to eat here so we decided to wait and return another night; and I'm so glad we did return. First of all, our server, Nevo, was beyond amazing. Working in the food industry is a difficult job but Nevo handled not only our table, but his others, effortlessly, while making you feel as if you were his only customers. The food was phenomenal. We ordered a couple different salads, the conch and the octopus. The octopus was on the dinner specials as an appetizer but they made it an entree (by doubling the appetizer amount/price). The presentation was flawless, the food fresh and flavorful. Nevo was personable, attentive and telepathic, knowing what we might need before we asked. My wife got the chicken cutlet, which was lightly breaded with a panco pumpkin seed crumb over mashed potatoes with a lemon vinaigrette. I got their special, which was a whole yellowtail snapper fried to perfection with an asian twist. The yellowtail snapper alone deserves a Michelin star. We finished with their brownie and salted caramel ice cream which was delicious and can only be perfected by serving the brownie warmed up. Wow. First night and our first stop was this bustling popular eatery not far from Old Town. The friendly hostess took our name and number and quoted a 20 minute wait around 8pm on a Friday night, ended up being about half that and were so lucky to get two reserved seats at the bar - the most comfortable barstools ever.... Michael the bartender was prompt and efficient yet never felt like he was rushing us. His cocktails were worth every calorie - ha - the spicy peach martini to start and the luscious key lime martini to finish. We were also impressed with Keely who moved nonstop making these drinks for the rest of the entire restaurant right in front of our seats. Oysters were fresh and flavorful and we got an assortment from FL, MA and WA. Our entrees were blackened grouper and Cajun Oscar tilefish. The rice and green beans were a great complement to the fish and all were cooked perfectly. The food and service were very good. We had the steak sliders, grouper sandwich, burger and clam chowder. The grouper portion wasn't very large, but it was fresh and well cooked. The burger could have been better seasoned. The steak sliders and soup were both very good. On weekends they have some good off menu brunch specials like biscuits and gravy and duck hash. The menu has lots of up charges so pay attention to what you order. One thing that was crazy is they charged me 25 cents for a "side of Mayo" to dip my fries. It just felt like being nickel and dimed since this place is not cheap to begin with. Overall it a nice place with good food and service and fairly moderately priced for Key West. It's the kind of good, solid food that is hard to find in Key West which seems to have a huge number of super expensive places and lots of bar food, but not much in the middle. read more

Square grouper is an absolute gem to visit while in Key West. It's off of the main tourist drag, but well worth the search to find it. So good, we came here twice on our vacation . The Raw Bar, the fresh fish , the awesome menu selections including steak and delicious salads and a killer bar scene make this spot worthy of its five stars. They don't take reservations and I believe they're closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Show up early and put your name in and bonus, cocktail waitresses will come out to you in the waiting areas and deliver you a cocktail of choice. Yaaas.... This makes waiting so much easier. But here's a tip, if you offer to sit at either the raw bar or the cocktail bar, you will either get seated immediately or very shortly thereafter. We did this and Loved watching all the action. And the servers at the bar were all so incredible , friendly and efficient. You can really see the great teamwork in this restaurant. For drinks: we tried Gin Martini's with their awesome house made blue cheese, stuffed olives, a whiskey cocktail and some great white wines from their well curated wine list. This was my favorite restaurant in Key West. From the moment we walked in, I was impressed with the service. Every single employee we passed, both entering and leaving, greeted us or thanked us for coming. It created such a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the menu and specials. She made the entire dining experience wonderful. For food, we ordered raw oysters, swordfish empanadas, togarashi seared ahi tuna, whole yellowtail, and finished with a key lime pie. The oysters were good, though I personally prefer the flavor of oysters from the Bay Area. The swordfish empanadas, however, were absolutely incredible and truly the best I have ever had. The sauce they were served with complemented them perfectly. The whole yellowtail was crisp, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. The seared ahi tuna, which I ordered well done, was delicious and had a little bit of spice to it . We ended the meal with key lime pie, which was both tasty and memorable, easily one of the best we tried during our trip. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in both food and hospitality. The price was reasonable for fine dining but the food was perfectly balanced and cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. Service was top notch and attentive without being smothering. They have the visits and checks down pat and are always smiling and jovial. Square Grouper is an amazing spot just off the water, but priced alike competitors on the water with less imaginative food. I finally tried the new Square Grouper! I was sooo impressed. I've been to both the Cudjoe & Islamorada locations, and I personally liked the food at Key West the best. The menu was very impressive with multiple fresh fish options, pick your fish, (likely snapper or grouper), then pick how you want it prepared. I picked the Santorini style which is chimichurri & feta on top (delicious!) and my husband got the Cajun Oscar which is a pink cream sauce with crabmeat (also delicious!) I tried a bite of my friend's snapper Almondine which I also loved, the pineapple relish was the perfect amount of sweet without overpowering. Besides the main menu there were also multiple specials which added to the already impressive menu. Blackened Swordfish, triple tail Oscar, Cajun Wahoo, all impressive options, although not local. The drinks were great, our favorite being the Banana Pilar rum old fashioned with banana chips. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. Everything was great except the swordfish empanadas appetizer (couldn't really taste the fish chopped inside and the dough was too thick) but the dipping sauce was good! I'll be back, 100%! The local fish was ok but nothing I would be too excited about getting again. Not much flavor in the rice or the green beans. My bf and I ordered the oysters to share and then for his entree he ordered the Tamarind Garlic Duck Confit and I ordered the local Snapper in the Green Goddess preparation.
