I've heard of this burger joint chain for over a decade. I first saw it on Triple D back when that show had a lot of pull. I think that particular location (the original) was in the Sacramento area, not sure if it is still there. But they have expanded at least 4 newer locations, with one in the Bay Area in Napa, 2 in the Stockton/Lodi area and this one in Sonora which is in the foothills of the Sierras. The others are singular brick n mortars and maybe 1 of them may even have a bar. This one in Sonora is more of an 'express' version that's attached to a gas station minimart. There is good seating like about 5-6 tables inside with another 2-3 tables outside. If you need a restroom, you'll have to walk across the minimart. For a burger joint this place has a serious unique angle. But you have to love cheese in order to appreciate that angle, otherwise you'd be missing out on what makes this place special. When you get a cheeseburger here, they will add a huge mound to that sizzling burger that it will deliberately spill onto that griddle. They will cover it to facilitate the melting and what results is a melty cheeseburger with this awesome 'cheese skirt' attached. I have never seen a burger quite like this, so the novelty was exciting. That cheddar cheese skirt is lacy, gets kinda caramelized and hardens a bit. Kinda like a cheese frico if you've ever had it in a fancy Italian resto. When hot it is semi-liquidy; when warm it is pliable like soft plastic; and when completely cool it will harden like a crisp cracker, but it always tastes of salty intense cheese. Some people eat the skirt first as an appetizer, as it is difficult to eat the actual burger with the skirt intact. Others bend that skirt back into the burger/bun and then proceed to go to town. That is how I did it and imo that is the way to go. Cuz in that, that intense cheese flavor and texture is mingled with the burger and produce, giving each bite a representation of everything. It is truly a ride. I also have to give props to the burger itself as it seriously quality stuff. It is more 'steak-y' than cheap ground beef-y. And that's a good thing cuz the cheese makes it so rich that a cheap fatty burger would make this excessively greasy. The produce and pickles are a must in this equation, cuz like I already pointed out, this is so rich and oily that the fresh produce and the quality tangy pickles complements this burger ride perfectly. I actually wouldn't mind in getting extra pickles next time as it brightens the bites beautifully. The bun was just okay, wished it were toasted more but at least it withstood the juiciness of the ride. It didn't disintegrate or turn to mush, so again giving props. You can pick a burger size 1/4 or 1/3 pound. And you can even pick the size of the cheese skirt in ounces. I did the 1/3lb in the smallest skirt which is about 3 oz of cheese. I found that to be quite filling and perfect juicy bites. I wouldn't change that ratio. Any bigger your jaws will have to do some compromising/extra work. Tried some fries from my traveling mates and I'm glad I didn't get any with my order. It was the coated/textured type and just taste too processed for me. A burger and a soda was around $14ish. Staff was really nice and executed the concept perfectly. They cook to order, so it takes at least 5 minutes for a burger, over 10 if you place an order with multiple burgers. Worth the wait, this was a very memorable and satisfying burger experience. No doubt fiver! read more

I understand there's more locations of squeeze burger we just happened to go to this one so if you can get to one, you have to try! Service was so good the girl working was a SWEETHEART actually all the ladies are at this location even though the last time I've been has been years! They serve you your food and are the sweetest! They also hook it up with the "cheese skirt" omg there is no shortage we loved it! One gal running the front & back & she did it all with a smile on her face. She helped us with the menu and gave recommendations. It was so refreshing to see customer service is not obsolete. The burgers were delectable. What you see is what you get. The small cheese skirt was cooked to perfection, the larger cheese skirt could of used a little longer on the grill to get it to the perfect crisp . Our family was able to join the coloring contest which was a bonus! ( yay for family time , you are never to old to color) . Our luck one of our entries Won & we were able to use the prize $ at the mini mart next door. Great friendly service there as well. Purchased a combo Breakfast burrito which was delicious. My first time at a Squeeze Burger and how so unique. I got the 1/4lb squeeze burger with the mini skirt and my husband got 1/2lb squeeze burger with the regular skirt and large fries. We were pleasantly surprised by the large slices of pickles, soft bun, and sides of ranch. They have a patio with a few umbrellas and allowed our dog. Pepsi products are offered. The large fries didn't seem like a bountiful amount, but we weren't even able to finish ours. Everything was cooked fresh and took about 10minutes to get to the table. Kind service too! What a hidden gem this place is! I've worked in this area for over 3 years and never tried it until last week! Oh boy! I was missing out!! It was soooo goooooood! The customer service was excellent. The guy explained what "the skirt" was ... which is basically a big piece of cheese that falls outside of the burger fried on the grill. I'm not a huge cheese lover so I opted for just a regular slice of cheese. The burger was freshly made with the perfect amount of condiments and toppings... I ate the whole thing!!! The fries were seasoned fries and they were fresh, hot and perfectly cooked! I usually don't eat fries with my burger but I made an exception for these! Atopped by for a quick bite up in the hills. The gas station and the restaurant had nice people working. We ordered a hamburger with the cheese skirt and it was delicious. I really wish we could say good things about this place, because the name of the restaurant sounds as though the 'mystery meat' that someone might use to make the sandwiches with is that sickly pink goo that gets squirted out of a tube. REALLY unappetizing name, guys. As near as we could tell, no "meat" came from a tube... but that doesn't help the name of the place sound any better. Myself and my dining companion for the day (who lives several hours north of Sonora) had both avoided the place on all of their previous visits to town for that one reason alone. Just sounds gross. Unfortunately, by the time we mustered up the courage to try 'Squeeze Burger', ours was a negative experience all the way around. Dirty tables. Dirty condiment caddies. Dirty floor. The employees were nice, helpful and attentive. They just didn't think too highly of keeping up with the cleanliness of the dining area. Makes you wonder what goes on behind the counter and in the kitchen. I can tell you what doesn't... good cooking. We both ordered burgers with no cheese and we split an order of onion rings. The amount of raw onions on the burgers was almost as ridiculous as the amount of pickle that was added. I really truly enjoy dill pickles, so I was happy to see them. Until I tried to eat this thing. The lettuce leaf was sticking out all around, from all sides. The pickle juice ruined the bottom half of the bun it was on and it was subsequently all I could taste, and there went any hope of a tidy eating experience. Messy, and not in a good way. The meat was dry and flavorless. The bun was saturated with whatever moisture was in the sandwich and it disintegrated on bite three. We tried to salvage the day with the onion rings. They were glistening wet. With what, you may wonder? Cooking oil. Just hangin' out there, destroying the whole meal. Trying to eat them meant ignoring the oil all over your fingers and hoping a cardiac arrest wasn't on the menu for dessert. Even after removing the pickle pile and half the raw onions and trying to salvage the burger, there was no redemption. Worst meal in months. Bottom Line: We were there rather late in the day which could account for the unclean dining area... but it will never be able to account for the dried leather ketchup residue on the plastic lid on the bottle. That lid hadn't been cleaned or wiped off in a LONG time. The meat on the burger was lost in the taste of raw onion and dill pickle. It was dry and flavorless. The top bun was dry and unappealing, nothing redeemable there. Onion rings, no thank you. The trash can had most of our meal after 20 napkins each, all to wipe the onion, pickle and grease off our hands, once it was all said and done. I can't recommend this. My dining partner asked me to add their vote here as well. They voted 'never again.' read more

I have to say I was surprised that the burger was as good as it was considering this place is attached to a gas station. I think of this place as Squeeze Burger light, as it doesn't seem to have the full Squeeze Burger menu. Also it's shares the building with a gas station/mini-mart. I did notice thier prices are less expensive than the Tracy location though. While I know that not everyone is a fan of thier cheese skirts, I am. Although you wouldn't want to make a steady diet of them, for obvious reasons. My burger was served fresh and hot, and was very good. Additionally thier fries are quite tasty, and were pipping hot. Service was acceptable, and friendly. The only real negative was thier soda machine wasn't working correctly and the soda didn't taste quite right. They did make it right by giving me a bottle of soda from the mini-mart. Overall a good burger with a cheese skirt, and I will stop again when I'm in the area. read more

I'm gonna go ahead and say 4 stars is tentative. My first experience years ago, after they had opened and got there feet on the ground was perhaps a 1 or 2 stars. I didn't order anything, my 14 year old demanded food and said he'd pay for it. My impression is that they have taken peoples' past poor reviews into consideration and made appropriate adjustments! Bravo. Bun was fresh and awesome, burger was hot and juicy. My son went for the Squeezea Burger w/bacon and mini skirt, which is 3oz of cheese. Wise move. The fries were great, certainly not a "natural" cut, but I enjoy those coated, "crispy" type. The help was eager, but not overbearing. The food was hot and freshly prepared. So, I think after a rough start in a small town which is often a death wish, they have adjust and are still open for business. We came down from pinecrest and was starving, so we looked up burger joints and this place popped up. It didn't look very promising from the outside, and it is connected to a gas station so my husband went in to check it out, and said oh yeah this is good! We walked in and it was friendly from the get go. The three that were working all had smiles on their faces. You can see them through the mask! The gentleman who helped us was very nice! The lady that was cooking came and gave our daughter a coloring page and crayons. She also brought us our food and we were so surprised. We got a burger, teriyaki chicken both with a skirt of cheese, onion rings and sweet potato fries! The bun was so soft! My chicken was cooked perfectly and the pineapple was grilled wonderfully! The kerry was working the counter at the gas station, and was super nice too. Our daughter drew her a picture and she kindly took it and hung it up for everyone to see. For this to be located in a gas station, it was an awesome burger! A bit pricey but worth it. We split a large fry and each got a burger. I got the western and my hubs got the teriyaki burger. It was around $45 for two burgers and one fry. It was really good though. The lady working was super helpful and very attentive. Dining area was clean and had the A/C blasting. read more
