Skip it. I hadn't ordered from them in about a year. The deli menu is severely shortened from previous years. I recently had a made to order chipotle chicken sandwich from the deli and paid for it all afternoon noon in the restroom. I used to order there all the time with no issues. In a quaint little passerby town inside a chevron gas station you'll find this little restaurant/ burger shop. Seating is limited but they do have about 6-8 tables for 2 people each. All the food is made to order. Western burger was massive and fresh. Chicken fingers from the case are trash but they make up for it with the breakfast sandwiches in the case. This place is always busy and always takes at least 10-15 minutes easy. So if you're in a rush don't come here.. that's also where good food is derived from, on the same token if you don't want good food, don't come here lol read more

I've been told the Outpost has some of the best food in Tuolumne county. It might be the case, if you don't watch the food being prepared and you call ahead to order. You can order inside the gas station and they make the food in an open kitchen right inside. It's pretty cool, but unfortunately there was no regard for sanitation during the prep. The staff didn't wear gloves, handled cash with bare hands then turned right around and picked up handfuls of lettuce and fresh veggies to chop for a fresh salad, without washing hands in between (cash is notoriously dirty). They also used their hands to push down the overflowing trash can and went right back to cooking, taking orders, and handling payment...without washing or putting on gloves for the food part. I also waited with my family for an hour, while people who were in line behind us or showed up 20 minutes later and ordered inside got their food first (these weren't call-ahead orders). I really wanted to love this place because of all the good reviews by word of mouth, but I don't think I'll be back until there's some real improvement in the food sanitation practices. read more

We come here to stock up on gas for our car - as well as for our home. It's been a steady and convenient option for us these past couple of months. Their parking lot area is usually busy with customers and recently before the current winter storm - we saw a number of people filling up their propane tanks at their propane station. They also have old newspapers inside - perfect for starting fires if you have a wood burning stove or fireplace. Please note though that you will often see people coming in and out of Outpost without masks - so if you are concerned about COVID precautions - I would recommend going elsewhere, or be sure to sport one yourself and get your hand sanitizer ready. These past couple of months - we have not ventured inside - and have just used the gas pumps. Trust. read more

Two of us went for lunch today. My Grandson's order was ok, but mine wasn't. I ordered a blt with cheese. The cheese was left off, so I took my order back and informed a lady behind the counter who looked in charge that the cheese was left off. She then turned around got one slice of cheese and placed it on top of half my sandwich. Even though I felt this was rude, I left and did not say more. Later my Grandson told me that behind my back she said "I'm not going to baby you. You can put the cheese in the sandwich yourself. We are too busy!" Many people go to gas stations only for doing the obvious, filling up their tank. But some might venture towards the convenient store and walk out with basic necessities they might need on their drive home. Well, not at "Outpost". Nope, this place is a full-on sit down restaurant located INSIDE the Chevron gas station. And it is one of Sonora's best-kept secrets. I rarely come as far out as the Sonora area but I am all about going off the beaten path and trying new and exciting places. And as unlikely as this was eating in a gas station, it definitely works. "Outpost" is located directly on Soulsbyville Rd. in East Sonora and only a stones throw from California Hwy 108. For your convenience, they do offer ample parking that is adjacent to the building. I came out here on a drizzly and cold May afternoon during the week. When you do enter, it is a rather spacious setting while the entire kitchen and dining area is directly to the right. This is where you'll find the cashiers and cooks taking the orders while making the food. I've heard from other locals in this area that this place makes some pretty damn good burgers. However, what I was craving was their "Monterey Chicken Sandwich" (for $6.99). This sandwich consists of a warm soft roll complete with cheese, mayo, mustard grilled onions, and Ortega chili. Now I am not someone to complain but since it was not that busy, I figure my sandwich would be done and ready in less than 10 minutes. Not here.. It took them nearly 30 minutes for them to bring my sandwich out. I am not going to bring the overall experience down because they were just so nice. I guess since I'm from the city, its hard to adjust to this part of California since everything moves just a little bit slower out here. However, all of that waiting had suddenly diminished as soon as I took the first bite. The chicken was seasoned very well while the grilled onions and chili made every savory bite a truly mouth-watering one. I definitely loved how the bread was warm and crispy. However, they did slather quite a generous amount of mayonnaise on the bread. Oh well, it was comfort food at its finest. Now keep in mind, their menu is VERY extensive; they offer over 50 items to choose from! Everything that includes breakfast specials, sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups, nachos, burritos, wraps, quesadillas, and hot dogs. And since they're inside of a gas station convenient store, you can pair up any type of soda, beer, or beverage of your choice. Definitely a must-try if you're in the Sonora area! read more

Well we have been going there for years and would have shared the best burgers on the mountain. However recently (over the year or so) it's gone down hill in a big way. We stopped ordering online because they ALWAYS GET IT WRONG. 7 out of 7 times. What is so hard about meat and bun. The buns are still made fresh daily but seem-to have much different taste and chew. As to the take out experience staff is not terribly friendly or welcoming and mostly seems overworked. Management really seems not to care. It's really to bad.this was a gem of the mountain and the direction it's going is not good. I've would like to give a review which is better but the product, service and quality just aren't that good. Not sure is we will return Sorry but that's the review. read more

I went in there today for a quick grilled cheese sandwich. I noticed immediately that not one person, employee or customer, other than myself was wearing a mask, despite state and local orders to do so. I decided to wait for my order, because I really was feeling kinda faint at that point. As I stood by waiting, I watched one of the food handlers come from a different part of the store. I don't know her name. She had dark brown hair, dark glasses, and a few visible tattoos on her arms. Anyway, this employee proceeded to throw her hands under running water, make a cursory pass with a squirt of soap, then rinse. I am not at all exaggerating when I say that her "hand washing" lasted all of 2 seconds. She then proceeded to help prepare food... touching food items without wearing gloves (in fact, only one of the four employees handling food was wearing gloves). A minute or two later, the phone rang. The same woman that hadn't washed her hands answered the phone and then simply returned to food preparation after putting the phone back down. I quietly told the grill cashier that I did not want to make a huge stink about it, but that I did not want that woman to touch my food in any way. He gave me a grunted "okay" in response, nothing more. I watched this one woman handle at least eight food items with her bare hands. Not only are the workers at Outpost endangering one another and all of their customers, but that one employee (at the very least) isn't even following the most basic of food handler safety rules... washing hands. Disgusting. My grilled cheese went into the trash bin. So, that's that for Outpost, as far as I'm concerned. I'll never go back in there for food or anything else. Nathan Reich is a good guy, as far as I know, but I can't trust a business that has employees that obviously don't give a crap about the health of their customers. Aside from the lack of hand washing, it also really sucks that this business is thumbing its nose at public health orders during a pandemic. I should note that the front cashier that wasn't even handling food items also washed her hands while I was watching. She did a completely thorough job. The woman in the glasses needs lessons from that young cashier. I also should note that my family used to eat there pretty regularly. The food is delicious, but certainly not worth the risk. read more
