The volunteers were very kind and helpful as we went through the donated dresses. Because the dresses are all donated, they are able to sell the dresses for about $250 or less, which is a bargain compared to what else you might get at a regular boutique. A great option for anyone who doesn't mind getting a gently used or new older dress. An excellent option for anyone on a budget. Oh also, if you find a dress you like but are not sure if you want to buy it, they will hold the dress for two weeks for $25. While we were there, there was a woman who does dress alternations and she was able to advise on what could or couldn't be done as far as alterations are concerned, which is helpful knowledge to have as you look at and try on the dresses. The website offers two appointments. However, there were more than two people trying on dresses at a time, and the volunteer had to divide her attention amongst multiple women. I tried on dresses in a small area that wasn't a traditional dressing space. There wasn't really a place for a guest to sit near the "dressing" space. I purchased a $250+tax gown. After researching my purchase, I was disappointed and dismayed to learn that it was from 1999, despite the organization's claim that that dresses are no more than ten years old. This brought concerns and anxiety of looking and/or feeling outdated. I also engaged in the services of the seamstress the establishment promoted, Blanca of Fresca Designs. She was unresponsive, arrived late, got blood on my dress, missed two appointment times in a row, and was unapologetic. I had to find a new seamstress two months ahead of my wedding. I did not need that added stress! After going to another person for alterations, I realize it is also possible that the work she did to take in the dress was done incorrectly. I am spending more on alterations than the dress itself; what seemed like a great deal on a dress has become an immense headache. read more

I had a great experience shopping here. The staff were very welcoming and friendly but leave you to browse and try on privately unless you need help with clipping the gowns or have questions. There was a wide selection, which included a lot of dated styles but I found a few beautiful modern styles. I didn't end up purchasing a dress but if I lived closer I would definitely stop in over time and shop as their selection changed, the prices are unbeatable if you're lucky enough to find your dress here. read more

I wasn't able to find my dream wedding gown here but that doesn't mean that you can't! There were so many different dresses and some with tags still on them that had been donated! They also have some veils and other accessories that you can choose from. All of the ladies there were volunteers but you can tell that they enjoy helping brides find the dress for their big day. The building/suite is a remodeled apartment complex so it is a bit tight to walk through the aisles. But everything is marked by size and make sure you look through even the (much) bigger sizes since most of these dresses have been altered! If you can't find your dress here, you can consider donating your dress after your wedding to them in the future! They also have a seamstress that they're affiliated with and she will do your wedding dress alterations even if you didn't buy from St. Anthony's! read more

St. Anthony's was such a great find for a bride on a budget. All dresses I looked at were under $300, either never worn or only worn once. I said "Yes to the Dress" here. My dress was brand new and originally retailed at $1,700 - 1,999. I recommend coming here after you already have an idea of preferred style since there are so many dresses to look through. Having specific's in mind helped me quickly identify the ones worth trying on. This was my last stop after going to 3 bridal shops. I showed Betty pictures of my favs from other shops and that helped us find things that were similar. I loved that I could peruse the racks alongside the stylist. I can't say enough good things about this tiny bridal non profit. I was a bride on a budget and found my dress here! St Anthony's Bridal is located in a former apartment complex in Fairfax which now has retail businesses inside of it. All of the dresses are under $250!! It's solely staffed by volunteers and they do such a great job running the shop. When entering the suite, it looks like an apartment stuffed to the brim with wedding dresses (racks on racks)! IMO, I think it's silly to spend a crazy amount on a dress that you're only going to wear once so St. Anthony's was perfect for me. I bought a secondhand mermaid Alvina Valenta dress for $250 (which I did not even pick out myself - thank you Rosanna W. for finding such a gem!). At first, I wasn't 100% sure about buying it, so I paid a $25 fee to keep the dress on hold for two weeks. After buying your dress from St. Anthony's, they also provide contact info for seamstresses that they refer clients to (at a discounted rate I may add). St. Anthony's bridal shop is a Catholic charity organization and they have all kinds of donated bridal goods. I didnt expect much at first, but surprisingly they offer some really decent goods. They accept donations from bridal shops, so they have some brand new items. You will find wedding gowns with tags attached. I didnt need a wedding gown, but they sell all their gowns for $150, and some of them are on sale for $75-100. Other nonwedding dresses were selling for as low as $35 I think. What surprised me today was that they had brand new oscar de la renta shoes donated from oscar de la renta shop. Apparently Oscar de la renta donated over 200 pairs. Most used shoes were selling for $10, but these were a steal for $60. The lady working here is super sweet and amazing. I also wanted to give them a high rating because this is a fantastic place to donate your gently worn (hopefully without any drink/food marks) wedding gowns. I saw a woman kinda sobbing when she came to donate her gown because she was so sad to let it go. But your gown will get to see the light again and let someone shine so you are doing something really good. The season of love is back, so maybe think about donating your dress to St. Anthony's. This place is freaking amazing! We are in the midst of planning for our wedding but life tends to bring in a few surprises so we chose to find an alternative to dropping a cool grand on a dress that would only be worn for a few hours. And I heard about this little non-profit shop through a post on a Facebook bridal group. Someone mentioned that they bought their dress here and other dresses ranged in price from $100-$200. Say what?! I had to do a double-take. So came here with my fiance and we almost left. When we arrived to the building, it looked like a weird hotel building. We thought we had come to the wrong place. But we went inside anyway. Again, we looked in the building directory and the shop was nowhere to be listed. But being my stubborn self I convinced my fiance to look for the shop anyway. Upon walking in it's a bit of a surprise to realize we'll be purchasing dresses from what was once a former hotel room. It was a bit odd, but I tend to be drawn to the weird and wonderful. So we gave it a try. They offer many different sizes, but If you are a size 4, this is the holy grail of bridal dress shopping. I grabbed three dresses (you can try as many as you want, but only three at a time). One was almost a perfect twin of one we saw at David's Bridal for $550. I tried this one first. Ooohhh so cool! It looked just as nice as the one we found at the chain. It was jeweled up on the sweetheart top with a nice asymetric style with jewels embellished along one side and an A-line skirt. But I had two more dresses to try on. The second dress I tried on was the first dress I noticed as I came in the store. It was hanging on the side of a rack, staring at me. Yes, it was literally staring at me, I heard it call my name. "Juuuulieeeeeeee... pssst! come heeeerrrrrrreee." I answered its beckon call and energetic pull and tried it on. Ohmylanta! It fit me to a tee! I felt like royalty wearing it. It was a sweetheart neckline with a ballgown skirt, bedecked with extensive beading throughout the entire gown. Wow! I couldn't stop smiling. My fiance was blown away. He said it was the best dress I had tried on out of all the places we had visited. This thing at any other store (including David's Bridal) would have most likely cost above $2,500 (according to my coworker) with the amount of detailing on it and the colossal length of the train. But here at St. Anthony's Bridal, it only cost $200. Yes, $200. But they are used donations, which keeps the prices down. The dresses sometimes had a few stains here and there (usually only on the bottom where the hem meets the floor), but nothing spot-cleaning couldn't fix. They also have a seamstress, Blanca Shek, who does the tailoring and customizing of the dresses. The money you pay goes back to the organization, to help pay for overhead and maintaining the dresses onsite. The people who work there are volunteers. If you are a bride and looking for your dress but don't mind a preowned one and need to maintain a budget, I highly recommend you check this place out. Then, if you're unhappy, you can always cruise the clearance racks at David's Bridal for $500 or so. read more

My daughter had bee looking for a wedding dress and we already visited one place in Richmond. I did an online search for wedding dresses and found St. Anthony's. Yes, it is a charity shop run by volunteers. Location is in a converted hotel but was easy to find. We were a few minutes early but Lois (the volunteer working at the time) said the earlier appointment didn't show so it was fine. They have many dresses! Also veils, belts and other accessories. My daughter tried on 6 or 7 dresses and found 'The One'. Lois and the other ladies there were very helpful and we are so pleased to have found exactly what my daughter was looking for and the price was incredibly low. Very, very happy. read more

The staff sent emails confirming the appointment, a reminder, etc. Trudy and June were so helpful, patient and sweet. This was my second dress appointment; and first with St Anthony's Bridal. There's such a great variety of dresses. Showed them pictures of/told them what I was looking for-ideas/visual. They, with my family, chose several dresses for me. I tried on several; and was able to "say yes to the dress"! My dress and veil were under $300. I was given information for a seamstress-discount offered with her; and given her information. The location inside Dogtopia is kinda awkward and the hours are slim, but this organization does amazing work. I didn't get my dress here (see enraged David's Bridal review), but I did donate mine to St. Anthony's after realizing that (a) my DC apartment is not going to grow space to hold onto it, (b) my NYC apartment is darn near smaller than my DC apartment, and (c) I'm not that sentimental. I have the fondest upon fondest memories of my wedding day, but I would much rather another bride experience the joy of a nice dress than keeping it held hostage somewhere in my house. I just dropped off my dress, but from the peek I got, there seemed to be a load of goodies to choose from. As another reviewer mentioned, don't shop by size: just get it tailored the best you can if you find a gem in a few sizes up. And there's a bagillion other accessories, including room decorations, so go nuts. Glad to know this service is available! I recommend to all former brides seeking to rid themselves of their dresses and to upcoming brides who can't afford (or don't want to spend a fortune on) a new one. read more

This is a great idea: any wedding gown is $150. Go crazy. This is one of those deals where your experience really depends on what they happen to have on the day you go. When I went, there were a few dresses that still had tags on them, never worn. But there were also a few with pen marks, etc. on them. I managed to pull a few that looked new, but had been altered, so I know they were worn at some point. Which brings me to another point. Do not just shop in your size here. I am a 6, but found dresses in the 8 and 10 racks that had been altered down enough to fit me. The ladies working (? volunteering?) are helpful and BTW, you can put dresses on hold for 2 weeks! This place was AMAZING for my preferred style of shopping and my stick-it-to-the-man attitude about bridal prices. I had a fun time browsing through the size 10 and 12 dress racks without any pressure from a sales associate. It's a bit of a quick and dirty set-up regarding dressing rooms, but that's how you keep prices reasonable, I'm sure. I did end up finding my dress here, and I love it so much. The length and waist fit well, and so now I just have to get some minor alterations back home in Chicago. I would also like to point out that the selection of sizes larger than mine was very good, too; lots of dresses in the plus-size section. read more

I love St. Anthony's Bridal's mission. They charity rents wedding dresses for free to brides who can't afford to spend more than $3000 on their wedding receptions. For those who don't fit that budget, they sell their dresses for $150. Most of the dresses are used, but some are brand new--donated from a bridal salon after they aren't sold. The shop itself is only open in two hour windows on Saturdays. And it's a little hard to find, as it's just a room in an office building that houses DogTopia in an industrial park behind Rockville Pike. But the women who work there are sweet and helpful, and St. Anthony's really cares about making a wedding afforable for its brides. I don't actually fit the budget parameters they have set up, but I did try on several dresses with the intention of buying. None fit me quite right, but it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend giving them a try if you're looking to buy a dress for less and don't mind one second-hand. Also, they rent out other bridal supplies for free as long as you meet their budget requirements. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about St. Anthony's. About two months into shopping for a wedding dress, I was feeling hopeless and resigned to the fact that I'd need to spend a lot more that I wanted to get a dress I loved. I stumbled on St. Anthony's online and thought, what the heck. I had no idea what to expect and certainly did not expect to find a dress. The other reviews are spot on -- this is a former apartment stuffed with dresses of all sizes. Some were definitely not my style (but you only need one). The veil selection is also incredible. There was one volunteer working the Saturday morning I showed up (Theresa) and two other brides. Theresa is amazing -- so patient and kind!! You can try on as many dresses as you want. I was there for over 2.5 hours, and I did not feel rushed at all. As one other reviewer said, this is not a hands on place, so I would recommend bringing a friend/family member. Current pricing for all dresses is $195 to $250. I think I saw one dress for $250. Most are $195. A knee length veil is $60. Cathedral/floor length veil is $100. Shorter veils are less, but I don't remember exactly how much. You can put a hold on the dress for $25, which reserves the dress for two weeks. They work with a seamstress in Vienna (Fresca Designs by Blanca) who does all the standard alterations for St. Anthony Dresses for a flat $185. Spot cleaning is $45. If your alterations will take Fresca more than 7-8 hours (I am adding some detailing), she'll charge $25/hour for additional work. Check this place out if you're not looking to break the bank but are open to a hunt. read more

My initial thoughts were what's the worse that could happen when shopping for discounted, donated dresses, I was skeptical. I was surprised when I pulled up, the location was in apartment looking bldg transformed into a bunch of mini business establishments, bu the store was great, there were hundreds of dresses in tons of styles and sizes, and. The available dresses weren't anything like the the ones on my Pinterest dream board, but that was for the better. I went with a very specific style in mind, and I saved 2 that we're close but wasn't completely sold on either choice. Upon my third return, Maureen (the kindest, most patient woman), the wedding dress consultant, suggested a dress she thought would fit me best. Fortunately she had seen me try on about a dozen dresses during my prior two visits and was spot on with her suggestion, I didn't want to take the dress off. To put it simply put your wedding dress pin boards aside. They have a no pressure environment and provide honest feedback. - You would never find this place if you didn't know the name. I only found it because of Yelp. It's in the Mosby apartments in Fairfax (across from the court house). - I arrived about 10 minutes late, and the lady was not very happy about it. I did try calling twice and they have a google voice number. When the phone rang, it asked me to state my name and then it would connect. Came back and said "could not connect." - When I showed up, I told the lady that I was a few minutes late and she did not seem thrilled. She did let me know they were closing at noon (it was about 11:57am) due to training and they had to cancel some of their appointments already. I let her know that I called twice and she didn't seem to care. I'm not sure why either 1) I was able to make the appointment online and 2) no one bothered to tell me they were going to be closing early? PS I made this appointment roughly 2-3 weeks ago. - A pointer: definitely go check out other bridal dress places before coming here. You are completely on your own to find any dresses. - There's not much of a fitting room, but there are two mirrors that you can use and a closet type of space, which we used. - The dress prices are AMAZING here. Yelp is correct - you can't beat the prices. The most expensive dress I found was $225. I was shocked and excited!!! - I did end up getting a dress. The dresses are donated so some have a few flaws, but the best part is they do $150 flat fee for alterations. When I got on the pedestal, I noticed a bit of the lace on the bottom was ripped. The sales associate came and estimated the fixing. She also kept recommending certain veils. She got VERY helpful at the end (probably because we were buying a dress). She did mention a few times that she was "already late" and asked if she could start turning off the lights. - The dress I picked out was $225, but she offered to sell it for $190. I couldn't be more excited about my dress. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Sure, I would have been pissed off too if my appointment was late, but we all dealt with it. I recommend everyone going here. And when you donate your gown, you get a tax break. read more

I had such a great experience at St. Anthony's Bridal. The ladies working/volunteering there were all so helpful and easy-going. I felt like I was shopping with a bunch of my female relatives and friends, but I had never met them before! No pressure to buy, no pressure to hurry or limit the number of dresses to try on. Completely the opposite of the stiff/uptight/high-pressure experience of an appointment at a bridal boutique. The fact that all dresses are $150 is secondary to the comfortable atmosphere of the place. I think I tried on 10 dresses, and fell in love with 3 and had them put on hold for a couple weeks. I highly highly recommend a visit to this place for people who believe that shopping for a wedding gown shouldn't be a stressful experience. I also love the idea of reusing, recycling (my engagement ring is from a vintage jewelry store), and the concept of providing wedding services for people who are less fortunate. The ladies at St. Anthony's all seemed committed to their mission to help out brides on a low budget, and sincerely devoted to the idea that everyone deserves to have a beautiful wedding. I almost don't want to reveal how great this place is, since I will go back to look at more dresses, but if I hadn't found St. Anthony's Bridal I would be feeling completely discouraged about buying a gown that's not hundreds/thousands of dollars, and in an environment that I feel comfortable in, so I wanted to share this with those who are like me. I had a 4 PM appointment and called to make sure I was at the right place. They told me the person was in traffic. 50 minutes later the seamstress comes down the hall saying "shit happens." So we walk in, she turns on be light, and gets on the phone and is gossiping about some party. (+) Appointments are 90 minute blocks -- we appreciated the extra time from a traditional 60 minute appointment. (+) We browsed the racks ourselves. I loved being able to see the entire store rather than just what a sales person thought I might like. (+) I think it was a good selection of all sizes, but I can vouch that the 8/10/12 section was plentiful. (+) If you need more time to think about it, you can put dresses on hold for two weeks for $25 each. GREAT FEATURE! Putting the dresses on hold counts as a tax deductible donation. (+) Pre-owned but in excellent condition. Some dresses had small food stains and/or wrinkles -- we were assured those would come out in the cleaning/alteration package. (+) The cleaning/alteration package is under $200. They recommend two different seamstresses. (+) Taking pictures is allowed and encouraged. (+) They also had a selection of veils. This place is incredible for the prices and services it offers. You cannot go wrong with wedding dresses for under 300$ that were originally worth much more. You have to make an appointment when you go because the shop is tinny. I was running late and called to let them know and they were understanding. When you get there, the dresses are arranged by size. Remember that most dresses have been altered though - I found my dress on a larger size rack that had been altered down. They do list the measurements of each dress on their tags which makes shopping easy. I tried on about 10 dresses before finding one a loved - a Maggie Sottero dress from a couple years back. It was in great condition and only 240$! I found listings online for that dress preowned for close to 1000$. I was looking to not spend very much on a dress but that price is a dream! Obviously this shop could be hit or miss just depending on what dresses they have available when you go but it is definitely worth a try, and the staff is so helpful. If you are looking for a preowned/donated dress at a great price with a good-sized selection, then this is the place for you! All wedding gowns are only $150 and they have affordable accessories as well. The volunteer staff here are terrific. My mom and I initially had some trouble figuring out how to tie the corset back to a dress and they helped us learn how to do it. They then brought me dresses that they thought I would like based on the first dress I picked out. They allow you to put dresses on hold for a week or two (great if you need some time to decide and get the money together). They clearly enjoy helping brides feel beautiful, and they treat everyone with dignity and respect. After trying on some other dresses, I ended up getting the first dress I tried on! The label says Maggie Sottero, no alterations were required, and I got a matching veil for $15. Very good quality for much cheaper than David's Bridal. Even if my dress hadn't been there I found another one that I think would have gotten. Though I didn't need one, they told me that they have a seamstress who can do alterations. The location is a bit hard to find and they are only open for a couple of hours per week. If you are looking for a designer dress then you may get lucky, or you may not. But if you're just looking for a wedding gown that makes you feel beautiful at an amazing price, then this place is definitely worth a visit. And perhaps best of all, your money goes toward helping couples with smaller budgets have wonderful weddings. Make sure you bring cash or checks, as they do not take cards. read more

I donated my wedding gown to this charity in December, 2015. I delivered it to the Rockville location along with two copies of the completed donation form, as instructed on their website. The woman who collected my gown assured me that they would officially sign the receipt and send it back to me through the mail. Four months and many emails later I still have not received the receipt. I have had numerous emails with Melanie R. Cameron, whose signature says she is President of St. Anthony's Bridal. On February 16, 2016, she wrote "I apologize for the delay in your donation receipt. We have looked, and we are still not sure where the receipt has gone. However, we are writing up a new one, and including our own SASE with two copies, and we are sending it out in the morning via post." It is now March and they still have not sent the receipt. I tried filling out the form and emailing the PDF to them. All they needed to do was add a signature, scan, and email it back to me. Still nothing. I did some research and could find no record of this charity that claims to be a 501(c)3 Organization. I think that this is a fraudulent charity that is pocketing these very expensive donations and not providing a receipt because they do not want to have a record of the transaction. I would strongly advise that if you are considering donating your dress, please do not donate it to St. Anthony's Bridal in Rockville, Maryland. Find a reputable charity that will provide you a receipt for your donation. read more

I donated a wedding gown, headpiece, crinoline and shoes to this 'charity' back in January. Part of the process was to include a SASE and a completed form for charitable donations. I have bought four dresses here: my two wedding gowns (one with was a $1200 David's Bridal ballgown with a chapel train with lace pearls crystals and chiffon and the other a chiffon Grecian style column dress with a court train and a sequined waist band), a floor-length hand-made lace mantilla veil for $15, a royal blue evening gown with a court train that I used as a bridesmaid dress for $35 and a brand new champagne colored Maggie Sottero wedding gown with the price tag (mermaid style with crystals originally $2500) for $300 from their new couture section. I have brought several friends here to help them find their dream dresses and they have found them here. I am a bargain hunter, but to find dresses with barely any use and at such a great price is purely a steal. I mean, a Maggie Sottero never-before-been-worn-with-price-tags-still-on-it champagne colored evening gown. They are also willing to share their vendor list with brides, which have vendors that offer discounted services for their brides.
