Dec 1, 2025 My son called and ordered 3 Hook & Ladders with pickle spears about 7pm check# 1000290. Disappointing that you don't get a human on the phone to place your order. I arrived for pickup. The ladies and gentleman are always friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and fresh as always but the pickle spears were missing from all 3 subs. I walked into to order one sandwich, and the time from ordering to receiving my sandwich took 21 minutes. I understand that things can get hectic in fast food, but I became annoyed when the staff were more focused on socializing with each other than making the sandwiches. I've worked at fire subs so I know that making a sandwich should not take that long to be made. read more

Not impressed at all. They charge full service restaurants prices for small portions, then expect you to eat out of a plastic basket with plastic forks. Plus if you pay with a credit card, they charge an additional 3 percent. I will never go back to eat in. However, I have not yet tried their fresh fish market for take out to cook at home. Most locations could work on cleanliness whether it be the floors, chairs, tables, and even other orders ingredients getting mixed with your own. When someone places a to-go order through a delivery service it would be great if firehouse could read the receipt i dont think ive gotten a single correct order out of the 5 i have placed. Which from the consumers standpoint means you get no food for a slightly overpriced meal, spending probably $10-$15 in tax/fee and tips. Then when you go to get it fixed or refunded you have to go out of your way to go pick it up, which you may not be able to do because of work or whatever reason, and if you go the refund route you get MAYBE a fifth of you money back. My cowkorkers and I ordered Firehouse Subs on Thursday, May 4 from the Shotwell Road location. All six of us ended up very sick from the food, that wasn't correctly made in the first place (no veggies, wrong sizes, etc). We are certain we got food poisoning and there was a hair baked in the sub bread. When we contacted the manager about this, he said it isn't their fault because they make NONE of their food there. It's all prepared elsewhere and they microwave it. They will not take responsibility for anything and said it's not their fault there was hair in the food or other items were expired. As teachers, we don't get to use the restroom during the day so this caused a major issue as we were all having to run to the restroom to vomit or use the restroom. This created a messy situation for all of us. We didn't expect much from fast food, but we certainly did not expect to get so sick from the food and for the company to say it's not their fault because they aren't serving fresh food. Just a warning that the food there is old, microwaved, and they don't care if you get sick. I'd stay away. read more

We decided it was time to grab some takeout and after debating, we landed on firehouse subs. I ordered online and used their rapid-fire pickup. We placed the order at 530 and it was to be ready for pickup at 545. I ordered the medium hook and ladder and my husband ordered the Cajun chicken. The place has limited parking which is used for firehouse, little Ceasars, ups. They do have a 10 minute only parking spot and luckily we could slide into it. The restaurant was nearly empty so we pulled up, walked in and our bag was sitting in the rapid fire section on the counter. Both sandwiches were beyond delicious and definitely hit the spot. My only regret is, not ordering a bigger size, haha. Great menu, easy location and quick service, I definitely recommend! read more

Decided to give this place one more chance. I love Firehouse Subs but this location has screwed up all 4 of my previous orders. A coworker said it's better to order with app. So I did since I already had on phone. I triple checked my order online "large club on a sub with NO ONIONS". I got there at 8:35PM to pick up. They close at 9. I had to ask where my food was, everyone seemed to be doing nothing but goofing off except one person mopping floor, I did a quick check and it looked correct. My mom used to love coming to this sub shop because they were one of the few that offered gluten free bread. However recently they stopped carrying gluten free bread and we are just confused to as why they would stop catering to this dietary need. Us as a family have to eat at places that offer gluten free options so not only did they lose her but us too. BRING BACK THE GLUTEN FREE BREAD!! read more

This place does not take care of people's online orders. I placed an order online today at 11:40am EST to be picked up at 12Noon. In time for a meeting. I arrived at 12Noon. I see the cheerful order announcer send out all these orders. Even for folks who arrived after me. At 12:08 I asked if she had mine. She asked if I am at the right place. I shared the online receipt. She said well, you can go back inline and they can re-make your order. At this time the line is getting longer. Fact, it is lunch rush. I had to go! Late for a meeting. Another lady came out and explained she did make my order and someone stole it. WHAT???? So, this means anyone can walk into the store and take what ever they want from the online order shelf. GLOVES SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN PLACE OF HAND WASHING!!! Went to Firebouse Subs this evening on shotwell and instantly saw 2 employees handle food improperly. One employee was sweeping the floor went pass the sink and came directly to the food prep counter to make my sandwich. I had to tell another employee that she needed to wash her hands! They both were trying to explain to me that there were gloves on?? Next the employee who was ringing customers up, did the same exact thing after telling the other employee to wash her hands??? The employee finished ringing customers up and instantly put gloves on...After being told (the girl who tried to make my sandwich) to wash her hands she took her gloves off quickly washed her hands (which was not washing) just to put the same gloves back on. Now I honestly hate bringing up food codes, NC rules/servsafe or environmental health section information. Seem like the manager need to pull out these manuals and have his employees read it! I was very disappointed in my salad.Its pretty hard to mess up a salad, but somehow Firehouse Sub's manages to. What was the most frustrating part , the lettuce (the heart and soul of a salad ) was brown and soggy. I looked over at my BF meaty sub and he managed to get fresh crispy leaves in his sand which. I did, however enjoy the large olives . And even though my meal was disappointing, the service was pretty decent. Crew members where friendly, informative when I asked questions about the menu and our meals came out fairly quickly. Also added a star because they have the "create your own flavor" fountain machines. I loved the limed flavored sparkling water. There is a slim chance I will return. We've patronized this store a few times since they've been in Clayton, mostly being satisfied. However, on the most recent visit we had specifically asked for a couple of specific things about one of the subs: extra-toasted bread, and the sub cut into quarters. Got it home to find out that those two requests were ignored. Tried calling the store and all I got was a message saying the number I was calling had not been set up to receive messages. I tried calling again several times to the same result. In addition to that the free pickle spears had not been included in the order that we had requested online. Being only 10 minutes away, I hopped into my car and proceeded to go to the restaurant. when you go inside, you will see several people working behind the counter but on this visit as well as previous visits, no one bothers to say hello or greet you - they just continue doing what they are doing, working on the subs, etc. So I explain to the lady at the checkout, the issue with the sub, as well as the order not containing the pickle spears and she replies "we're out of pickle spears." Well that's strange because the last time we ordered, that also did not contain pickle spears. I guess they were out then as well. So, maybe I'm being too petty but damn, we spent $31 on 2 subs so I would appreciate better service than this. And what is the deal with not answering the phone? The short of it is that it will be quite a while before we order from Firehouse again. Publix has decent subs. read more

I did something tonight I don't know that I have ever done before. I got my money back. I literally turned around and drove back to firehouse and returned my 2 medium sandwich's. The cheese steak and the engineer. I asked for bbq sauce on the side. I check the order before I leave and no bbq. So I ask again and they reluctantly gave me two cups neither with the lid on it. Take away due to the covid. Also look and no pickles. I said to the guy, hey there are no pickles. He just reply's we're out of pickles. Both sandwiches, that come hot, are ice cold. The meat is cold. We just drove away and stopped to eat in the car and they are cold. They both are slathered in mayo making them wet and mushy. I went back and took my receipt card and sandwich's back. The guy at the register without hesitation began to refund me. Asked why, I told him. Almost like they knew they were serving out crap. Look at the receipt and they refunded the amount but the incorrect sandwich's. That makes no nevermind to me but dang this place is a huge huge letdown. read more

Amanda took my order and promptly called me on the morning of the catering to confirm and collect payment. The delivery was early (early is on time, on time is late!) which made me super happy so that the food was ready for the group once the meeting ended. Went by and grabbed a online take out, for me the Veggie Sub was just disgusting, very little vegetables (barley enough to cover the bread) and way overloaded with mayo, in the trash it went. I have been a Firehouse patron for years and have ate at many of the franchises, including this one, and have never had an experience like this. Next item I have a serious complaint about is the lack of any kind of mask on those preparing the food, with small business owners wanting you to feel safe to come back in their stores you would think even if not mandatory, it would make good business sense? read more

There's something not right with this place. It should have been much busier on a Monday at 12:30 pm, and it was really smokey in there! What is up with that?? It took about 10 minutes for my sub to be ready but that's not to say that the SEVEN people working behind the counter weren't keeping busy constantly. I took a couple of pictures but the one I DIDN'T get (which I'm kicking myself for) was the stacks of boxes piled about 10 feet high near the counter that was obviously stock that should have been stored in the stockroom. Like some of the other reviews, it was a bit smokey in there. But not the kind of smokey that will burn your eyes or anything. Tuna sub was good. Hot sauce bar was good as well. Bread was tasty. It's good food, better than subway. I like the decor. A great way to honor the fire departments. There are a lot of workers in there. I wouldnt say my sub took forever, but it could have been a lot quicker since it was an easier sub to produce. read more

We certainly appreciate the feedback of the community as we continue to grow and develop. The time it should take to get a sub should fall between 4-6 minutes, assuming its not overly busy. This is one area that we have put a lot of effort in to since our grand opening in May. Regarding the smoky appearance, it is actually steam. Because we run 8 steamers simultaneously, the output can (at times) be more than the vent can pull out. Ordered 2 subs which were "ok" but my real problem was the mac and cheese. For 3.99 it should be at least filled to the top of the miniscule container (JUST LIKE THE PICTURES) however it was filled LESS than half. In all MAYBE 4 tablespoons of mac and cheese. I called to complain and the "manager" said she filled it herself and said the company policy was to fill it only half way. There was also NO topping and suppose to have bread crumb topping. Blatant false advertisement. Just moved down to the area and this was my first and LAST trip. I am ashamed to think my son is a firefighter and this company would spoil that name. I was at this location yesterday and a girl at the counter told me that one of their employees had tested positive for Covid-19 so they had to shut down the store, Drove by today and they were still open, Half the employees had their mask around their chin and not on their face. They should be ashamed of themselves apparently they do not care about they do not care. Just spent 15 minutes waiting to be served and left with a refund. Firehouse subs should be able to deliver a sandwich in ~5-7 minutes, just like its major competitor, Jersey Mike's. ... Regardless of whether the location is busy. Only 2 people placed an order ahead of me when I walked in. Come to find out, after waiting around, about 6 other people already ordered and were still, also impatiently, waiting on their orders. Jake, the child manager, was the ranking official today.
