Two things I want to highlight about my visit here on 7/17. First, we arrived very late after my sons' performance for the town in 100 degree heat. We were both overheated and hungry. The dining room was closed but, after speaking to the workers and manager, they let us stay and gave us great service. Most restaurants probably would not have accommodate us and we were grateful for the hospitality. Second, the pizza was fantastic. We got a large with half sausage and it looked and tasted like the pizza I grew up on in NJ. I look forward to going back and trying more offerings in the future. read more

We ended up at Venero's after our original plans didn't work out. Parking was a challenge but we eventually found a spot. Surprisingly, we were immediately seated. The rather generic interior seemed like it had been remodeled not too long ago. The restaurant was moderately noisy, but we were able to speak without raising our voices. For some reason we both ended up ordering spaghetti with meat sauce but when our meals arrived we both received spaghetti with meat balls. Instead of just replacing our meals, the server provided two bowls of meat sauce that we spooned over the tomato sauce. It was OK at best, but honestly I've had much worse. My spaghetti was too al dente for my taste, but it wasn't underdone enough to send back. Our meal came with a delicious garlic knot which had clearly come hot out of the oven. We split a "brownie delight" for dessert, which came out as a brownie on a plate along with a bowl of vanilla ice cream. If the brownie had been warm, it would have been very nice, but as served it was OK at best. Our server kept our drinks topped off, but between serving us the wrong meal, and then not replacing it, the service also gets an OK at best too. All in all, Venero's rates an OK at best. We won't be in a rush to return any time soon. read more

Thought we would give Venero's another chance. When we were seated once again I could see into the kitchen and there was someone breaking up heads of lettuce for salad with their bare hands. Answered the phone and went back to breaking up the lettuce. We lost our appetite and walked out. Never again. read more

We LOVE eating here. It's so reasonably priced, and delicious. Consistently delicious. We usually get the calzone, Stromboli, or pizza, but I've been with friends who got pasta or chicken piccata and everyone has been pleased. The staff is great and we've noticed they have had some of the same waitresses for years. Try the Tommy P pizza if you like something a little light for a change. It's veggie with a sesame crust. The restaurant has the old school vibe and I really liked it. The waitress was extremely attentive and got the food quickly. I had the lasagna and a Caesar salad. One of the more unpleasant dining experiences I have had. I have been eating at Veneros for years and until recently have always enjoyed the experience. The other night I was in the bar area and the place was full of several obviously over served patrons. One lady kept making racial jokes towards a black gentleman. I think she thought she was teasing, but you could tell he was uncomfortable. Another guy kept shouting profanity and got increasingly louder and when an older gentleman asked him to keep it down he started cursing at him and followed him to the parking lot. He then proceeded to start screaming at another young woman. All the while staff let it continue. I love the food here, but if they are going to let it continue, I won't be back. read more

It took so long to receive drinks. Took so long to receive appetizer. The pasta was dry because it should have had sauce on it. The eggplant was sliced so thin, I could barely taste it. All in all, the food was cold so the cheese was hard. No check back at the table. There were no napkins at the hostess station so I got a paper towel from the bathroom. I did get myself a to go box at the hostess station. I had to ask a server to ask my server to bring the check. I will never go back nor buy any more gift cards. read more

Not sure what happened to the place but this is the second time this has happened in the last 2 months. Our typical order there is pizza as I found it's the closest to NY style pizza in the area (or it used to be). When we got home and opened the box, we were presented with a pizza that was obviously pre cooked and reheated as the cheese was not smooth like a fresh but dried up and brown, the crust was hard although not burnt, and the toppings were dried out. Basically it's what you see on a pizza that was cooked a while before, dried out, and then reheated (like day old pizza from the fridge). This is the second time we received a pizza like this in the last 2 months. It's hit or miss on getting it fresh. I know it's very busy on a Friday night but I order knowing it will take time, especially for take out. Would rather have fresh than rushed leftovers. Ordered at 7:00 pm, but ready at about 7:20 pm - sounds a little quick for a fresh pizza. This isn't the only thing over the last 6 months but I think it's the one that has tipped us to start going to some of the other options in the area. read more

My family and I enjoyed our dinner at Veneros. They are known for their pizza, but also have a great Italian menu. The Caesar side salad was bigger than I expected and very fulfilling. I ordered the lasgna, and it did not disappoint. Very cheesy, saucy. Wife got the chicken picatta and that was great too. Lite creamy lemon sauce with many capers! We got the cheese pizza for our 4yr old, and she loved it. She called the oregano "vegetables" and was proud that she ate them. Yummm I think around Clayton this is a very solid pizza place! I've ordered the wings from here before and they were very meaty (so if you're looking for crispy wings this may not be for you). We chose to customize our pizza and got a large size. It was definitely enough food for two people (we actually had leftovers). Overall Venero pizza is very good. Thin crust, full of cheese, and full of flavor. I took off a star because their pasta (Buffalo) was just ok. Highly recommend for a pizza fix. read more

Unpretentious place on 70, with solid food. We went during a slow time and sat outside on an unusually warm day. 70 does get busy and loud, but it was our choice. I had a 10" meatball pizza. The crust was thin and nicely crisp, sauce was very good and they gave a very nice portion of shaved meatballs which allowed you to get some on every bite. Attentive but casual service. Ordered a chicken parmigian hero and was told by the cashier it was worth upgrading to fries for a $1. Cost with a drink and tip was $16. I wanted to eat outside on the nice patio. They were not doing table service but said she will bring it to me as a to go order. Great, so I sat outside. 15 minutes later I went in to check. They seemed surprised that I had ordered and paid. Found the food and gave it to me. Told me it just came out of the oven. The fries were soggy, the sandwich tasted bland, it was lukewarm and had no sauce. We ordered delivery via GrubHub last night & glad we did! We tried a new pizza place because DoorDash stopped delivering our favorite local one, sadly. Not sure why, but we do not have many delivery options now. Low and behold, GrubHub & Venero's saved the Friday evening! The food took about an hour, which is fine as that's what they estimated and it was Friday. We ordered a 16" pepperoni & mushroom and the wings, half Buffalo & half gold sauce. The pizza was New York Style, which I love! The "flavor" wasn't bad, but wasn't my favorite. I cannot put my finger on it but I feel the dough was a little bland? However, it still hit the spot! I love how they actually put a generous amount of pepperoni and mushrooms, not all pizza places do! The wings were crispy, huge, and delicious! I preferred the gold sauce!
