I've met people here at the Starbucks inside and even browsed the store with friends to kill time. I know in this day of age, people are not reading books and magazines in paper form, but you can find some excellent gifts here. I've found some great gifts for many friends and relatives here. My niece loves the little collectibles they have here where it's a mystery what's inside of it. Check out the gift finder online! I always have a hard time trying to find things for people and it's a great tool to give you some ideas. You can even buy online and pick up in store. That's convenient if you know what you want and don't want to wait for shipping. The staff is friendly. I really don't need any help finding anything as I just wander around. The line moves fast to check out so don't let that deter you from coming. Parking is easy, but the parking lot is shared with restaurant and retail shoppers so during Christmas it can get crazy. Ending this review with a quote. "Let's be reasonable and add an eighth day to the week that is devoted exclusively to reading." - Lena Dunham

You need to come here. I do not know another shop like this in Austin where Cantu's has been my go-to for the 21 years of me living here. This is a rare gem of a store in South Austin that you have to know about if you don't already. This is a very unique, quiet, and calm place to come in to whether you want to browse or you are curious about a consultation at Lee's Healing Center (located inside the shop in the back). When I need red mal de ojo bracelets (what are ojo bracelets, you ask? They are for protection! Look it up!) for myself, friends, or even for my baby nephew Cantu's has got them. Yup! She carries baby bracelets too to give to a newborn baby or any one who has small wrists to be honest. You will want to really take your time here when you arrive as there are so many things to see. Books, candles, prayer booklets, trinkets, statues, and tarot cards (also in Spanish!) can be found here. There should be no rush when you are here so take your time and gather all the things that call to you. Parking is located in the back of the small yellow building. Entrance is in the front off of S. 1st street. Be sure not to park in the convenience store next door where the sandwich shop is at. You will be towed! Be sure to say hello to Virgen de Guadalupe on the side of the building. The mural is beautiful (and old) but worth the stop to check out and maybe get a selfie with her. She really shines off of S. 1st Street!

I went into the store today to buy some candles and Mr. Cantu also told me that they did cleanses which interested, he told me he did an oil cleaning so I waited for him to be available after my purchase. We went into the back room and he explained that the oil cleaning consisted on oils and herbals sprays that have to be applied on the body and that he also used an egg and a lime. He also said that I needed to take my clothes off and only leave my underwear, which raised some concerns and made me feel really uncomfortable. I think that if he is going to be Performing this kind of ritual on a woman, there needs to be a woman practitioner in the room while this is being done And he should also offer some sort of gown or a sheet for the Client to cover themselves with. The whole thing felt very unprofessional. Has this happened to anyone else??
