This place has definitely been here for a long time! I am proud to see that there are lots of loyal customers going back and of course, supporting locally! There have definitely been way more than 4 bubble tea places that have opened up, probably closed, opened up, or still standing that are located in the Delmar Loop. It is great to still see it standing strong with the amount of competitors that it now has. Eight years ago, I was certainly a very loyal fan. Back then, it was the "must go to" boba place in the St. Louis Delmar Area. It is crazy to see how many shops have opened shortly after that. I remained loyal to here for quite sometime until there were just so many more options of bubble tea that I had to try. Different shops opened up not only in the Delmar Loop area, but also the county areas or other city locations. From my point of view, without this place's originality and without the big "hype" of drinking boba, I think Saint Louis would have not had as many boba shops that it does now. In my opinion, St. Louis Bubble Tea was one of the first places for people to be more open-minded to trying these types of drinks. Now, even though I do not go as normal, this is still a place where I always feel very nostalgic walking in. Yes, granted the place has not changed its look, its drink offers, its types of food.. But it is still something very humbling to see how it still remains there in the Delmar Loop after so many other modern places have open. Yes, there was a lot of fried items, and it was a snack fit for five girls. I am not a fan of fried tofu usually, but my other friends love coming back to it. The crispy chicken is always the first to go, especially when you add some sweet and sour sauce to lessen that spiciness. Fried dumplings were plump and filled with the best filling. And the french fries, honestly can't go wrong with. But, definitely you should try other food items beside the french fries to get that full experience! My other past go-to food item is that big flat stir fry noodles! I am not sure what they are called according to the menu, but definitely let them know you want to try those bigger noodles and not the thinner lo mein noodles. The big flat noodles are my favoriteeee! As for drinks, my past go-tos were the four color pudding tea, vanilla snow no boba, or the original milk tea with boba. I would recommend just have the four color pudding tea with no milk because you will taste the four types of pudding better. If you get the snows, don't get boba because it just hardens the boba. If you get the icy slush, green apple is pretty sweet (but that's the high schooler feels in me taste buds). If you want some actually flavored milk tea that isn't the original boba milk tea, get the jasmine milk tea or the taro milk tea (of course with boba). You can get different types of teas, smoothies, or slushes with different add ins such as boba, jelly, pudding, etc. It's a little off putting the amount of signage they have aggressively telling you to make sure you understand the flavor you're ordering because they don't do refunds. I'm sure many people have ordered some of the stranger flavors and asked for something different which I understand not wasting their product but I think one sign would do. This time I also decided to try their Chinese food for lunch. I ordered orange chicken which comes with rice and an egg roll. I chose to upgrade to fried rice and crab Rangoon which weren't worth the upcharge. The fried rice was greasy with no egg or anything in it and the crab Rangoon was average. The orange chicken was fried heavily like sweet and sour chicken with heavy sauce. They also asked if I was eating here or to go. I told them for here and they still served my food on styrofoam on top of a tray. The restaurant is also very dirty and so is the bathroom. The atmosphere inside is super laid-back and casual however, this place is a quick stop to get your bubble tea fix for the day. People come inside, order their drink, and then leave to enjoy the streets of Delmar loop. One tip when ordering your bubble tea is to tell the barista to go light on the ice or your drink will be finished in two slurps. This place is like a living fossil. It was the first Bubble Tea place on the Loop (now there are tons). While the place has always felt dirty (especially the bathrooms), my friends and I would come in anyways because at the time it was the only Bubble Tea place around. But now we have better, cleaner options- yet my friends were still set on going to this place. Like I said, this place hasn't changed at all, it still looks the same as it did when I was a highschooler. The service has always been okay, but when we went on Sunday it was bad. People who had ordered after us received their drinks BEFORE us and said drinks took 20 minutes to make. The taste wasn't worth it. I ordered an Almond Milk Tea with Boba, I was told it would be like Royal Milk tea only made with almond milk but when I got it, it just tasted like chilled almond milk with bobas floating around. This is my favorite bubble tea place in STL. There are at least 4 different ones in the loop and this one is the best. The food is amazing, I always get the chicken lo mein. I usually get a different drink every time, but recently I tried the taro (purple) and fell in love. When I was at Kung Fu Tea I bought the same flavor and didn't like it, it tasted so weird. Staff was friendly and never hasten customers despite long lines. The menu covers Chinese and Taiwanese standards, such as soy sauce chicken, beef stew noodle soup (succulent meat) and crispy chicken (very salty). The cooking usually takes forever. Last time we ordered two dishes to go. After 15 min wait, we were bored and starting to count how many fruits there were in the mural paint. My friend and I couldn't get consensus because he had a tally of 27 fruits but I got more than that... Whatever, that killed time. Our food was finally ready by the 30th min. The bubble teas are artificial but nontoxic of course. I have never seen a single tea leaf or a drop of milk being used as the ingredients. Maybe they had the tea steeped in the morning I don't know. There are flasks of colored liquid, quite iridescent being displayed in a row. A few drops of the flavoring agents your sensory cells will tell you this is your favorite strawberry. My friend took me here since I was craving some tea, they had a short line but the wait still took forever!! I think they only had 3 people working, I ordered a large passionfruit green tea, and also tried my friends' mango passionfruit slush. The passionfruit green tea was delicious, although I didn't taste that much tea it still quenched my thirst since it was soo freaking humid in there. It was at least 10 + warmer inside the store compared to outside. I am guessing that is because they have a fryer in the back. The staff here is pretty friendly, and they also have a large variety of food to choose from. I don't think I could stay in here because it was just way too humid. I finally had my first experience of the Bubble Tea sensation...And it was just alright. I got the most popular milk tea with boba. Boba is what makes bubble tea, bubbly if you will. They are large tapioca balls that really don't have a lot of flavor themselves, but provide an interesting texture to the drink. The tea flavor was good. Creamy, smooth, and sweet, but towards the end of my drink i was sort of sick of the boba balls shooting through the massive straw hole. The guy behind the counter was really nice and helped explain everything and offered me samples to try. I should maybe have gone with the bursting bubble drink, which has fruit filled juice balls instead of the tapioca option. I tried the mango flavor one which was yummy. I ordered the Singapore street style noodles, which was pretty decent. The serving size was definitely huge. Seafood, pork, veggies served with thin noodles and a peppery bite finish. The worst part of my experience was going to the restroom. I feel almost bad about posting a photo of the literal "shit-hole" bathroom, but not enough to not do it. The one thing a picture can't capture is the aroma of a place, which in this case means you are one lucky Yelpy. Beyond the very ripe pee-like stench, there was a toilet that probably has not been cleaned in like 2 months, no soap, and toilet paper debris strewn about reminiscent of a rebellious teenie bopper slumber party. The mini egg rolls are unmatched, crispy, always very warm, and so delicious- the crisp outer shell is so light and the inside is so flavorful. I have been coming here for years and the service is still as good as it was back then. Quick and fast, and food is always hot and fresh. The dining area is small, but I usually get my items to go. I have visited the other location on Olive, but this one is my favorite. Why? Mostly because I can grab my food, walk around the Loop or just head home. There is no outside eating directly in the front, but there is plenty of seating in the area when the weather is nice! I always ask for extra soy sauce and red pepper. There is a small fee but honestly, they give you enough for your food (if this is something you like in your fried rice)! I thank my lucky stars for having found St. Louis Bubble Tea here in STL though! While it is definitely not the best milk/bubble tea I've ever had, it is veryyyyyyyyy solid for St. Louis. I stick with the original, almond, taro, and green milk teas, with boba - I haven't tried the other flavors and will never intend to. They've all been solid every time. Their boba is also very good with great consistency. I've tried my milk tea with pudding a few times and that stuff is also addictive. I'm also a huge fan of their food - their pork chop on rice is my go-to, and they serve it with a salted egg and veggies. Very authentic and yummy. STL Bubble Tea seems to be one of the few bubble tea place serving WashU's Danforth and Medical campus. When my friend and I arrived, the cashier wasn't overly friendly and bristled at my friend's request to sample a few flavors (she worked at a bubble tea shop back home). When she asked how they cooked their "bubbles", he merely shrugged and said "She makes them in the kitchen" while motioning to the cook. When asked whether STL Bubble Tea uses powder, again he shrugged and replied "I don't know how she makes them back there" and made no attempt to ask the cook. I understand that customer service isn't the main attraction of a fast food Chinese place, but honestly? You could at least put some effort in, you know? The Taro bubble tea was sub par.
