I went to St. Mazie's for a romantic date night and had a great time! At first, we were disappointed to be seated downstairs away from the music. The hostess apologized and explained we should have requested to be near the music upstairs and that we would have been charged $15 per person to secure this. However, they were able to move us upstairs within 5 minutes and we were glad they did! The music and food were both excellent. It wasn't too loud and the decoration made us feel like we were back in time. We didn't get too adventurous with our food orders of burger, kale salads and wine, but all were as good as we had hoped and fairly priced for NY. Highly recommend this place. read more

Wonderful date spot. Made reservations mid day on a Friday, got a table for two at 9:30 infront of band. Please note that you can't just walk in and expect to be seated this place gets busy ! I had some champagne at the bar before my reservation which was delicious and cold, although the bartenders weren't particularly I friendly. I don't think they said one word to me besides handing me a menu and just taking my order then mouthing the amount. Once seated, which was promptly at 9:30 our waitress was very friendly, the service was a little slower but you don't really mind considering the musics playing and you're just enjoying the band while you wait. I had the honey cheese platter which was delicious and the burger, again, so good. I was bummed though because I wanted to order oysters which they advertise a lot, and they ran out ! I didn't get a chance to enjoy the patio area but it looked green and lush. Besides the mute bartender this place is great and affordable. read more

I adore this place! We happened to walk by on our way to Emmy Squared on a Sunday evening and this place is right across the street. We saw on their board that they offer oysters so we decided to stop in just for those. St. Mazie has so much more to offer. First of all, ooooh boy is this a place for couples. Going solo may leave a weaker person feeling quite dejected. It's easy to canoodle in one of their booths, feeding off all that romantic energy flying around. We were gross, everyone there was gross, and no one felt any shame. Except for the one couple who walked in apparently giving each other the silent treatment, who abruptly walked out after surveying the scene. Be nice or leave! Sunday they usually have a New Orleans jazz and swing band come in and play live, and this night had many people dressed up and dancing swing in the front and back of the house, pretty much anywhere there was enough room to move. The space itself really makes the experience. There's something almost steampunky to the decor, apparently the owner gets a lot of odds and ends from different sources. Lots of ambient lighting, retro fans operating on a shared rotating belt that spans the length of the bar ceiling, a dark red candy striped hallway leading to no where, a ultra cozy wood and stone basement with old framed photos, a beautiful courtyard out back with fairy lights and ample plants. You feel warmth the moment you walk in, and I loved discovering detail after detail. They offer cocktails (mezcal!) and small plates, as well as a few more substantial items like a burger. I was a bit irritated to be forced to buy food that the chef clearly had put zero energy into. I'd recommend just chilling elsewhere (perhaps by the bar) to enjoy the music, but not be required to spend extra on grub that will leave you highly disappointed. read more

I lived in NY a few years ago and always loved this place... I would come here for the jazz shows, a drink after work, a date night, etc. so I was excited to be back visiting and show my partner, but ended up being extremely disappointed. This was entirely a service issue. I've worked in hospitality so I know how it can be when a restaurant is busy or understaffed, but this did not feel like the case. We waited for 20 minutes for someone to come by to our table. Every server working would walk out to the small garden area where we were sitting (at the first table right in-view), would look at us with no food, drinks, etc., not say anything, and walk back in. We would both put our hands up in the air and wave pretty extravagantly, and still nothing. In the moment we actually found it quite laughable how hard we were trying to get anyone's attention. I finally physically got up out of my seat and tried to politely ask the first server I saw if someone could come by to which she responded "uhhh... oh... ok." After 5 more minutes, a man apathetically walked up to our table and didn't say more than 4 words to us while we ordered our drinks and food. All with smiles on our faces because at this point I didn't want to be rude. After this a manager came up to our table, but only to ask if someone had been by to take our order so we told him they had. At no point was there an apology or explanation given. The food was ok, but I have to call out the mussels which were not cleaned properly and tasted like dirt. We were going to order another round of drinks and food, but went another 20+ minutes without anyone coming by so we literally decided to leave and made another quick reservation at Bozu down the street (which was wonderful!). We did not see our server again until we flagged him down at the every end of our meal for the check, which he said he would be right back with. That would be the last time we saw him. After a few minutes I legit saw him through the window laxly cleaning silverware like he had nothing else to do. Another 20 minutes past and we got another server to pull our check for us. At this point we we're annoyed but mostly cracking up at how terrible service was. It became a joke or game to us, like "let's guess how long it'll be til we see someone next!" Also, I can't stress enough that the couldn't-care-less energy of everyone working here on a poppin' Friday night was wild to see. I'm all about giving a 20% tip or more a lot of the time, but cannot condone the non-existent service we had here. Do better, guys. read more

We threw our friends a pre wedding celebration at St Mazie this past weekend. It was a party for about 25 people. This was an awesome experience from booking through payment and all the fun in between! The staff were so friendly and attentive! All our friends had the best time! The drinks were fantastic! The food was so yummy! We really appreciated the covered patio since it was raining and we stayed dry! We danced the night away at this beautiful gem in Williamsburg! That was just about the only accurate recommendation and the rest of the article was pretty boring... but I digress. A lovely date (he was/is ... is, I guess because he isn't dead, the epitome of a Brooklyn boy who knows all the gorgeous hidden spots like someone out of a CW show) took my hand and brought me into this spot. There was a four-piece jazz band playing on that picturesque stage. I fell in love instantly and it wasn't with the guy. This space is so so so SO gorgeous! Girls DREAM of being whisked away to a place like this by a sexy, steel-eyed gentleman with stubble on his chin and great shoes. While the guy probably doesn't exist (and if he does he's a jerk anyway), Saint Mazie does. read more

Tried to order a soda and double espresso. Bartender made the soda, walked away, and I watched him take care of three other customers (existing and new). I assumed he forgot the coffee, left momentarily and came back a few minutes later. He'd eventually started making the espresso but forgot about it and it had overflowed. I said, "This is great! Actually, if that's waste then please, please don't make me another coffee, I would *love* to order a cocktail, may I see a drink menu?" He said no (?!) and insisted on making me another espresso. "No, but please I don't actually want a coffee after all. And since you haven't made the new one yet *please* let me give you a drink order." He still talked over me and insisted that he remake my coffee. Feeling uncomfortable I basically begged, "Sir (oh yeah, I said 'sir') *please* don't make me a new coffee, I would really like to order a drink..." His response? "FINE! I'm making this for myself!" and continued to make the espresso. Are you kidding me?! Regardless of the fact that I work in the service industry, who the f*ck talks to a customer like that EVER? And because I do work in that field, I'm overly polite to fellow servers/runners/bartenders, but that didn't help me one bit here. Not only that, but I was arriving late to a large gathering, and upon telling several friends this story they said "Oh my god, this bartender is the worst. He is sooo slow, and his drinks do *not* taste right at all." Way to make your customers feel uncomfortable and unsatisfied. read more

If you are thinking of a place to take a date in the area and are hoping to canoodle during/after, St. Mazie is that place. We came here right before it started pouring on Saturday night and could have not have been more pleased with the service at the bar, the amazing music (upbeat Jazz?), the romantic lighting, and the just-right-amount of chatter from the patrons. Their seemingly newer venture, St. Charles is located downstairs and is used as a "supper club" of sorts. Their Happy Hour is from 5-8pm, even on a Saturday, hurray! We also had the Mazie Burger (very tasty toppings and well flavored patty, but it was on, oddly enough, a stale bun), pasta of the day (the mixture of tomato sauce, olive oil, and pecorino was so fresh and pungent), and a very skippable charcuterie board (although the pickled root veggies were quite good). All in all, a 3 star meal food-wise, but a solid 4 star for the ambiance. I would love to come here again,either for a date night or a ladies' night out. read more

Little hidden Williamsburg gem! I adore this place. The decor takes you back in time as does the jazz. They have live jazz, I believe on most nights but you can still chat comfortably with your friends or date. Go to menu items for me, the chicken and the fettuccine (it's so yummy). They also have a downstairs restaurant that is more intimate and quiet. But personally I prefer upstairs. Good place for friends in town, date or to bring your parents. read more

I like this place. It's very warm and the servers are calm and kind. There's a Euro vibe here -- or what I'd envision a "Euro vibe" to be, given I've never been abroad and am an uncultured schmuck. The first night I was here, a French singer with a beautiful voice performed, and I, drunk, pontificated about how sexy the language was, which was then misconstrued by my partner as me wanting to sleep with the singer. I lived in Williamsburg for 4 years and rarely come back. This bar reminds me of my fav places: La Maison Premiere and Manhattan Inn. The bar is beautiful, they have these old cable fans set up and it just takes you away to another time - perhaps a steam punk time - but more like the 1920's. What the heck is wrong with the chefs here? My partner and I have been to St. Mazie for brunch three times now (I really want to love the place so I can come sink in the amazing space and incredible music as often as possible) and every single time we've come for brunch our "poached" eggs have been cooked through! That's 8 attempts at poaching!! (my boyfriend wisened up and stopped hoping for the best after the first time). The flavor palates are just plain off on the dishes, sometimes it's just too sweet, sometimes it's just too bland and sometimes it becomes very obvious they have no idea how to cook potatoes without turning them into bricks. Super fun place to go midweek to watch live blues and jazz music! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and just dark enough to feel sexy on a date. The rotating bands that play have never been short of amazing - especially on Sundays when swing dancers convene to dance in the bar (this is a word of mouth thing apparently - not organised by Saint Mazie, which I love!) Only thing removing one star is that the food can sometimes be a little hit and miss (once had some so-so chicken) but if you stick to simpler things you'll be happy! read more

We loved the little bar with live music in Williamsburg. #nyc #barreview It's small and in the middle of a small dark street - blink and you'll miss it. It's hip and cozy and quaint. The bar tenders are chill and so is the crowd. Good cocktails (I liked the Brown Derby) and excellent chocolate chip cookies. Best part: the live music. The Jazz band that played was the perfect accompaniment to the dim lighting. They played soft but funky music- not intrusive but not missable either. If you recommend this place, friends will think you're "on the inside" of Williamsburg. read more

Evidently they have brunch no - who knew?! The hubby had the breakfast BLT, a decadent French toast with super crispy bacon and poached eggs with tomato compote and spinach. I had the smoked fish with poached eggs over herbed creme fraiche and potatoes. Will be coing back just for these dishes!! Server was brand new and a bit slow/pokey; not super attentive, especially because it wasn't too busy. But we sat in the beautiful back garden, which garners a little less attention, otherwise it would have been a solid 5 stars. Love this place. This place is REALLY good for date drinks. So intimate, candle-lit, funky 1920s vibe, a nice bustling crowd. Also, the wine on tap is actually really really good. I got the hemingway daqauari cocktail because I am such a fan of the Sweet Science version, and I gotta say....wasn't as good. A little too sweet and not enough tang. My bf got an applejack whiskey drink and it was good but again, too sweet. Definitely could have downed it in a second!
