I'd been wanting to try the cannoli from St. Philip's Bakery for a while, and I finally stopped by! I picked up 2 classic chocolate cannolis, 2 pistachio cannolis. and 2 ricotta lobstertails Price & Size: Cannolis were around $4 each, not exactly cheap, but they were quite large. Taste: The shells were crispy, and the ricotta filling was smooth, not too sweet, and overall tasty. The lobstertails were also crispy and creamy. Verdict: After trying the 3 most famous cannoli spots in Vaughan, this one ranks 3rd for me. They were good, but nothing mind-blowing--I wouldn't go out of my way just for these. Of course, this is subjective, so this might be someone else's favorite! Bakery & Service: The store was clean, well-organized, and easy to browse. The staff was friendly, but I wish they had price tags on display. I visited the store just before closing time (around 7:57 PM, with posted hours until 8:00 PM). The staff member at the counter made no effort to understand my purpose for being there. When I attempted to speak, she glanced at a colleague, checked the time, and rather dismissively stated, "We are closed." This was confusing, as several customers were still actively shopping and completing purchases. When I pointed this out, she responded that "this section is closed," despite remaining at the same counter and continuing her work. The interaction came across as unprofessional and discourteous. I would expect a more respectful and customer-oriented approach, particularly when the store is still open and serving others. I hope management is aware of such conduct, as it does not reflect well on the overall customer experience. read more

Well this was our second specialty cake and I have to say that AGAIN we were just amazed at the beautiful artistry! Jackie did a fabulous job on my Dad's 70th birthday cake. ISABELLA and ALESSIA from the cake department were taking two weeks to respond to a quote for a cake, like the picture below. Love the interior design and the variety food that is offers. Ice cream, cakes, pizza, panini, pasta, grocery and coffee.

I love their cannoli. If it wasn't for unnecessary chocolate drops they put in them, they'd be 5/5. Otherwise, I give them 4/5. Other than amazing cannolis, they have a good selection of cheese, cold cuts, all sorts of baguettes, pastries, cakes, prepared food, Italian cookies, gelato, etc. They serve quality stuff and local Italians love this place. I've been to several Italian bakeries in the area and this is by far my favourite one. On a side note, today, I tried their famous Sfoglia cake with strawberries. I have to say that it was tasty on the inside, but the whipped cream wasn't all that great. There was too much of it and I didn't like the quality. Essentially, it's Napoleon with strawberries, smothered in whipped cream on the outside. If you want a good alternative in terms of premium cakes, I recommend Amadeus on Bathurst, north of Steeles. Their cakes are more expensive but they're also more premium. I would compare Amadeus to a really nice cake shop in Paris that sells premium cakes. read more

St Phillips Bakery is one of the most legendary bakeries around. They have everything from bread, amazing hot table, amazing pastries, deli counters, small groceries etc... Although I don't have a St Phillips near where I live I recently had some friends come over for a visit and they were amazing enough to surprise me with some pastries from St Phillips. Although I did not try all of them the ones I did try were a decedent delight. There is no other way to explain them other than JUST AMAZING. I will let the pictures explain themselves. Well, much has changed and much is the same. I was surprised to see so many customers in the dine-in section taking their masks off and drinking and chewing. How desperate are people to get out of the house and sit with others? I am staying away from that. I am here for take-out. Isabelle or Isabella at the counter was friendly, a bundle of energy and happy to serve. She is an asset. The old woman at the cash hates herself, you and life. She doesn't even have to move unlike others. She is sitting there, not making eye contact, not providing bags (I had to ask for one despite having three items in my hands) and her answer to my 'thank-you' upon paying was ... nothing.. no answer and she kept looking away. I hope I don't hate my lot in life when I get to her age or preferably I wont get to her age. Seriously. The cappucino was actually decent. A medium was $3.25. Their cups are branded for them. I bought four small bite sized pastries and enjoyed them yesterday and today. They are $3 each (they call it $2.96). The zesty lemon was a favourite. Not bad for a bakery. Not bad at all. The $3 bread was the best. It was fresh and, per the bakery, free of preservatives so needs to be eaten same day, but it felt good later. read more

Maybe it was because we came 10 minutes before closing on a weeknight but I was not very impressed with what I got here. I had high hopes and I am currently on the search for some of the best cannoli's in Vaughan/Woodbridge. I have read that pre-filled cannoli's are a no no and that made to order cannoli's are the way to go. I still had to give the pre-filled cannoli's the benefit of the doubt. I was happy that there were quite a few cannoli's left when I walked in. I decided to get 3 cannoli's, a vanilla cream custard filled pasty (don't know the name) and a strawberry tart, which was also filled with a vanilla custard. Out of everything, the strawberry tart was probably the best. The cannoli and vanilla custard pastry were soggy. Again, probably because it was the end of the day and they've been sitting there. The cannoli shell was not as crispy as I would like it to be and the filling was just meh. The other pastry was just completely soggy. I ate it as fast as I could. Maybe it's supposed to be like that? The strawberry tart was tasty. The strawberries were perfectly sweet and paired with the crust it was a perfect combo. The vanilla custard put it all together. I happen to be in the area and that's why I was able to make it in. If I'm in the area again, I'd gladly come back. From the pictures, the hot table looks amazing. read more

We went to this location yesterday and the young men behind the deli counter had masks on but not over their nose and mouths. I refused to buy deli at an establishment that doesn't provide the proper safety of its clients. Obviously there was no manager to oversee these young men as I'm sure that's not the proper dress code during a pandemic. I accidentally stumbled upon this place with my mom, as we were next door in the natural food store. The first time we came here, I had just graduated I September and my mom wanted to get a cake to celebrate. I asked one of the girls behind the counter what their specialty was and she immediately pointed to the tiramisu. Now, I love tiramisu...but the only good one I've had was in Italy. Ever since that one, I've only been disappointed. So, I hesitantly agreed to try it. They kindly wrote congratulations at my mom's request and we brought it home (along with other pastries...just in case). My oh my.. that tiramisu was delicious!! I still remembered the taste almost 6 months later and decided to order it for Christmas dinner. It was a hit at the party too. So, was it better than Italy? Probably not.. But! Was it an extremely close second? Absolutely! Service is great here and there are so many things to choose from. Starting at their hot table, to their deli counter, to their desserts and baked goods. On a normal day prior to covid, this place was bustling. Now, it is still just as busy and they have signs at the front entrance asking people to physically distance by 2 metres. However, once you step in, you will quickly notice that it just doesn't happen inside this tiny cramped store. The good: baked goods are as delicious and as fresh as ever. Some notable changes: The fresh bread/bakery area now requires a store employee to bag bread/rolls etc, which I am glad they have started doing as a safety measure. The bad: The cafe seating area tables are spaced out, however, there are two-seater tables adjacent to the long line of customers headed for check out that are not physically distanced. Can you imagine waiting in line next to a table of people that have removed their masks because they are eating? That is not OK. As well, there is no controlled foot traffic so people are constantly bumping into each other. read more

St. Phillip's cheesecake is a place where you can get customized cakes on basically any design you want from blackberrys, beer bottles, coach purse bags and the miscellaneous "adult cakes". You can even add your own custom photo with an addition $15 when you upload it online. The one that I tried this time was the Strawberry Cheesecake. These cakes normally cost around $30 for 10-12 serving sizes, with the exception of a few of their specialty St. Honores collections which are around 12-15 servings or more. I never really used to like cheesecakes when I was small, but as I adapted to the Western culture I began to accommodate to it. Having tried different cheesecakes, the best part about this cake was the strawberries. They were giant in size, juicy and extremely sweet which may had to do with the sauce. I have been frequenting St. Phillips Bakery for years. First was for the freshly baked bread and cold cuts, delicious pastries and cookies. Over the years, for all our memorable occassions we would order their decadent cakes all decorated according to my specific instructions. All those cakes and various flavours forever a part of the sensory memory. Yesterday was my birthday and I was given the Lemon Yogurt Cake...... My favorite....... Light sponge cake made with real lemons..........simply delicious!!! Now the latest technology system is in place. When you order a cake a file is opened under your name and a record of all the cakes previously ordered are recorded. No need to worry if you loose your order number it's easy to trace with your phone number. Oh and I forgot to mention the Hot Table.. Great food for lunch? read more

I walked in feeling like I was transported into a small and busy european-decor marketplace. First section I saw was some beautiful Pastries (Cannoli, Tarts, Puffs, Cookies), Secondly the Deli meat section, Third was a decent selection of fresh Breads. When I almost finished the LOOP around, I saw the Cafe area where I saw a few people having an espresso or cappucinno. After the Cafe was the Hot food area which if I remembered correctly was called 'Bocadillo' where they had a variety of Italian meals such as Foccacia selection, Peppers & Sausages, Pastas and their Weekly Special (I had the Porchetta Sandwich). Bocadillo was a school cafeteria style where you ask for your item and move along the line towards the cash register, then walk over to the dining area where there might still be leftover dishes and drinks if the young man looking after the area hasn't clean up the tables yet. When I was enjoying my Porchetta Sandwich, I thought to myself that this would be a good place to bring a friend for coffee & dessert outside of the lunch/dinner rushes. It had a certain VIBE to it that can allow you to chat while watching people come in and out holding boxes of pastries and breads. BTW, I liked the Porchetta which was still JUICY but if they gave a few pieces of crackling that would be over the top. The bread that came with it was just as good if not better. Utterly disappointed at the lack of professionalism at the Maple location of St. Phillips Bakery. We went to pick up a baby shower cake on Saturday morning of May 27, 2017. Take a look at the photo below. When we picked up the cake, we were shocked to see the names "Jeff and Hez" written on it instead of the correct spelling of "Jess and Hez". When it was brought to the attention of the bakery staff, not only did they not apologize or offer to correct the mistake, they insisted and argued that the spelling was correct. One would expect the staff to fix it or at the very least, correct the name to the customer's satisfaction. It was obvious that the letter was "f" with a horizontal dash on the letter that we had to wipe off the chocolate frosting to correct it. The store did not offer any compromise or do anything about it. It would have been an easy fix for the bakery. In the pressure of time, we had to manually remove the horizontal line across the letter. Even after we tried to correct it, the vertical stem of the letter was long - proof that they wrote the letter F and not S. If the letter was indeed S, it should look similar to the letter S at the end of the word congratulations on the first line. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion to celebrate the arrival of a baby is tarnished by a bakery shop that was supposed to be professional and reliable. Shouldn't a bakery shop possess a primary skill to spell correctly on a cake or at least offer to fix it? Over 150+ guests were invited to the event and we were embarrassed having asked why it is "Jeff" written on the cake. It is a pity that this happened. I hope everyone takes caution when buying from here and get service that they deserve. No celebration should have to deal with this non-sense and be stressed out about a purchase that was fully paid for. read more

Dang, you know you live in the GTA (let alone work for Yelp in the GTA) when you visit a place like this anytime you're in the area ... and then forget to review it. Three years I've been Yelpin' it up, and I forgot to tell everyone how amazing this place is. To be perfectly honest, there isn't a single solitary thing they do, that they don't do to perfection. From their freshly baked breads, their tavalo calda (hot table) filled with an ongoing rotation of delectible italian eats, to their espresso/cappuccino bar, to their pastries to their cakes... ohhhh their cakes!!! Hands down, St Phillips has dug themselves a niche as one of the best, yes the best, places to get cakes in the GTA. Wedding, Baptism, Confirmation, Birthday or other special occasion. Heck, even if you're driving home one night and think, shoot, I have friends coming over tonight and I need a cake - they've got ya covered. My personal favourite cakes include: Lemon Yogurt cake, sfoglia cake, strawberry short cake, and my most fave (and I don't know the name) but it's got chocolate and coffee flavours. It literally makes my pants move... sorry for the overshare, but it's true. Unreal. That said, I love their cakes, but every year when they're in season, the Zepploe made by St Phillips are easily the best made anywhere in the 905... maybe even all of Toronto. I have a bit of hard time rating St. Phillips. It is a nice place, their bread and pastry are excellent, service is very friendly, but that's all the good parts. We ordered cakes there twice and, even though they were expensive, they weren't very tasty. The coffee there is so so, and the deli is nothing special. We got veal and meatballs there on a few occasions and they were quite dry, even the ones we buy at Fortinos store deli are much better. read more

I came here because I heard from a friend that St.Phillips has some of the best cakes in town. The bakery is bustling with tons of customers in and out. So I definitely felt I could trust that I could buy a cake here. I bought a cake here today and to my surprise, I am extremely disappointed in the quality. We bought a small lemon yogurt cake for 22$. Everybody in my family tried the cake and everyone's slice was partially frozen in the centre of the slice, and the cake itself was so hard and dry! I am certain that this is a stale cake and was freezed, thawed, and probably re-freezed as it was so unbelievably dry. You do not always get what you paid for. I paid $140 for 3 pizzas and a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday. The party was ruined. When I opened the cake box which was sealed when I picked it up, the writing I had asked for was not on the cake. While we were singing happy birthday I noticed that the piping on the side of the cake had fallen of and there was a dead fly in the icing. I had not opened the box before getting it home and getting ready to sing. I ordered the pizzas and cake one day before and prepaid. The pizza was to be ready at 4 pm. They were cold when I picked them up. We ate them at 5 pm. The kids refused to eat then because the were so hard and the cheese tasted funny. The adults tried there best. When I returned to the store for a full refund, they accused me of not checking the cake before I took it and that the fly could have got on the cake after I picked it up. The manager refunded me $50 but refused a refund for the pizza because it was partially consumed. I guess I was supposed to rip it out of the adults hands and leave them with nothing to eat for dinner. Embarrassing for me and ruined the family function. Im not one to review much and to overlook a lot of things but this time I just really have to say that it's sad when the food or goods of an establishment are great but the customer service is terrible.... I have been to this bakery many times, and most (not all) of the people who work here have a terrible attitude like as if it irritates them to help you. Many times when I have asked for help or if I need something (bread,cold cuts..etc.) I have to wait for someones conversation to end followed by a bad attitude and slow service. So this place is delicious! I called about 45 minutes in advance and found that they had a strawberry cheesecake ready made. By calling in advance, they had the birthday message already prepared on the cake and ready to pick up. They also have candles for sale right by the cake pick up stand. In addition, they have a beautiful cabinet full of pastries. I bought a couple of gluten free treats, cannoli, and a delectable, delicious chocolate filled chocolate éclair. They also have a hot food station at the back, where I picked up some lunch to go. I'm super happy, and the cake was well received. Totally a crowd favourite. They have messed up on 2 special order cakes, even though I included a photo of the cake I wanted. I went on a Sunday afternoon just after mass. The pastries had caught my eye, but what really got my attention were the pizzas coming from the hot table. I knew I just had to try it.
