My husband ordered key lime ice cream and when I tasted it, I had to have that, too. Don't be like me and over order. First of all. I live in Brunswick and we frequent the Village area often. I have 4 kids and I know better than to go into a sweet shop with crew in tow. I had family in town his week, and truth be told we all have a bit of a sweet tooth. So when they showed up with a bag of treats from the St. Simons Sweets, I was excited. I asked them how delicious they were and I was bombarded with how gross the stuff was. I thought they were kidding. I grabbed one of the 5 dipped Oreos and popped it in my mouth. At first it was good.... then it happened....... the after taste hit. It tasted like how the store smells mixed with a faint hint of death. It was so strong I began to gag and dry heave. What the Hell! How does a store with all those good reviews allow itself to put out a product on the shelf like that. Much less sell it to the public. I will never eat anything from this store ever again. I also caution anyone else not to eat anything. Everything that was purchased had the same after taste. Also, I asked if I could get two flavors in my cup (the small cup size is quite large but I also expressed that I was happy to purchase a larger sized cup in order to accommodate this request) and was told that they were unable to do that. The candy counter ~ bins of bright gummies, huge licorice ropes, tables overflowing with old fashioned sugary temptation. The bakery ~ mini cupcakes, fudge, chocolate covered everything (I personally recommend the chocolate covered potato chips if you're feeling adventurous), and an ice cream bar that serves new, fanciful flavors each night from Superman to Nutella to Carrot Cake and more. And finally you have the sundae bar ~ upstairs and still a mystery to me as each night we were in (twice in six days) it was reserved for a birthday party or special event. A model train choo choos overhead as you sit at side tables to eat your ice cream. If you prefer outside seating plant yourself on the patio to watch the throngs of people headed to the pier. The only thing they lacked was the chocolate river and schnozzberries. But I'm sure Mr. Wonka will be installing those soon, so I'll be checking back in the next time I'm in the area. read more

This place is a bit expensive, but you should be aware of that before going in. Parking can also be a bit challenging during peak hours. several times shopping here it is noticed that on any purchase you are automatically charged a 4% fee, not compensating for a credit card usage / swipe fee, no this is when paying with cash money ( U.S. currency ). and the 4% fee is pre tax, meaning you pay tax on the 4% charge. there is no signage anywhere in the business telling the customer of the 4% fee, and they do not verbally tell you of it. when questioning the employees they can not tell you what the 4% is being charged for, but can only tell you it is automatic, mandated and required, and can not be removed. they send you with what ever you are purchasing to the cashier at the exit of the store, where there is located a tip jar, to add insult to injury. in todays times for the owners of this business to treat their customers in this fashion is horrible, and in my opinion shows they don't care about you. I always return the item, canceling the transaction. I am in the process of notifying the proper state authority of this misguided fee they are charging their customers. read more

I'm a sugar fanatic and I love alliteration so St. Simons Sweets was high on the list of places to visit while we were on the island. The shop is nestled in the Village and they have an assortment of eye-catching sweets on their menu: Caramel apples Fudge Chocolate dipped Oreos, pretzels and marshmallows Specialty Rice Krispies Treats (on popsicle sticks, shaped into bundt cakes, etc.) Frosted sugar cookies Truffles Pralines Homemade ice cream, milkshakes & smoothies Bulk hard candies Items in the glass cases are adorably decorated and several are beach-themed. I brought a crab (a dipped Oreo with red licorice arms and candy eyes), a flamingo sugar cookie and a Rice Krispies treat that looked like a wedge of birthday cake. True to the name, all three were super sweet. I didn't think the cookie or Rice Krispies treat were as buttery as other versions I've tasted but they were fine. Also, the prices were a bit high but that was a common refrain in the tourist district. Ultimately, the variety they offer will justify multiple visits. The store was large with a good selection and in a nice area, but the prices were very high. We opted for ice cream. They hardly give you any - about the equivalent of one scoop for $5 sans cone. This place looks and smells delicious. But they could REALLY use some labels because the staff does NOT like answering questions. I hate strawberry flavored anything so if the jar of pink gummy bears are unlabeled - how do I know what flavor they are? And how inconvenient is it that when I ask the young female cashier with the glasses, she said, "I don't know - either watermelon or strawberry." In fact - the response "I don't know" was pretty much what I got each time I 'bothered' her with a question. I was also stoked thinking they had candied apples - they actually only have caramel apples with various toppings. (I'm sure I'm wrong but I thought candied applies were the apples with the hard, red crunchy coating). I had my first Mexican Coke here - the ones made with cane sugar and sold in tall glass bottles and it was good. My caramel apple with chocolate and peanuts is still in the fridge - it's pretty good but the apple was a little mushy so . . . I didn't wolf it down like I would have under normal circumstances. My chocolate peanut cluster was awful. It's actually still in the fridge. I took one nibble and all I could taste was scorched chocolate. Under normal circumstances, I would say give this place a try - because they have SO many items to choose from - but lackluster customer service COMBINED with subpar offerings - Yikes!
