What a treat! My husband brought me on a date here a couple of weeks ago and I can still vividly remember it (that's how good it was!). We had made a reservation, as recommended, so we were seated promptly at 7 PM. Our waitress's name was Morgan G. and she was wonderful! She seemed knowledgable of the menu and helped me with my entree selection. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I came to a steak restaurant and ordered the New Orleans shrimp dish, but when you're pregnant, you eat what you crave and don't worry about semantics! Morgan told me how much she enjoyed the New Orleans shrimp, so that helped ease my mind about my choice. I ordered the macaroni and cheese as a side dish and, holy cow! was it yummy!! I still crave it to this day. My husband ordered the sea bass with a side of asparagus and he thought they were pretty tasty as well. - The side dishes are large enough for two people to share, so be mindful of that. - We also ordered a crab cake appetizer and a house salad (with house dressing). The crab cakes were divine! You could really taste the crab and the spicy rivagote complemented it nicely. The house dressing was an amazing burst of flavor that paired well with the salad. The only negative that I could mention is that my seat was a bench seat and a row of other tables also utilized it. I prefer having my own seat, but at least our neighbors were pleasant. We went to a movie after dinner and while waiting for the movie to start (theater lights were still on), we noticed our neighbors from dinner at Stab's walked in right behind. Great minds think alike, I guess! All in all I was very impressed with Stab's. It wasn't my first experience at a fine dining restaurant but it was certainly one of the best and most memorable. I can't wait for our next date night! Side note: I have since ordered the New Orleans shrimp from another restaurant and it was so disappointing. I will be returning ASAP to get more of Stab's New Orleans shrimp! read more

StaI went to Stabs Restaurant in Central on August 6th along with some friends to celebrate my 25th business anniversary. We were told by David Wrine that we couldn't be seated until everyone made it which I didn't understand because most restaurants that I've been to as long as half of your party is there you could be seated. I called earlier that day and change my reservations from 8 people to 6. Three of us arrived and couldn't be seated. I then told him that it would only be 5 of I and he just kept repeating well you said 8 then 6 and I'm not understanding why they aren't here. We sat outside waiting to be seated then I went in and told them again that I couldn't understand why we couldn't be seated and that was more than half of the party was there. One of the host answered my question and I went back outside. David Wrine the DM came out standing over me as I was sitting down waiting with my guest still saying that it was supposed to be 8 then I said 6 and that he couldn't understand why they wasn't there. I told him that he was starting to piss me off and he said well good now you won't be seated. I gave him a few words as we were leaving and when I called to complain Dorian (a manager) at the Stabs on Jefferson gave me David Wrine information to make the complaint when David is the person that I wanted to complain on. Once I realized that it was his voice on the other end of the phone. I asked for another manager and he casually gave me Kevin's information who's supposed to be over both locations but was at the Jefferson location. Kevin has yet to return my call and since David Wrine was a eager to give me his name I'm almost sure that nothing will be done and his actions are common when it comes to African Americans. The only good thing is that we didn't leave hundreds of dollars in a place where we weren't wanted. I was warned that they were prejudice but still wanted to give them a try. read more

Can't believe I've never reviewed this place! It's awesome! Everything is very delicious, it's pricey but worth it. If you enjoy a great steak and want nice atmosphere, definitely worth it. The food was amazing! I had the 9 oz filet. Cooked perfectly. There were onion crisp on top that really added to the experience. Curly 3 cheese macaroni was delicious. Loaded baked potato was huge! The waiter was attentive to every need I had. They serve cheesecake at your table. They pour delectable servings of caramel over top. Then they light it on fire in front of you. Great presentation. 5 Stars for food & (especially) Service. Being a purveyor of locally owned restaurants, I was familiar with Stabiler's other restaurants and had high expectations for this one. So much so, that we drove 45 minutes to dine here for my wife's birthday. Our server, Jonathan, was very knowledgeable and balanced friendly banter with professional presentations. The food, as we expected, was thoughtfully prepared and we enjoyed each course thoroughly. The watermelon cocktail was refreshing and original. We will be dining here again soon to try a few other items we had to pass over. Very few cons here, not worth mentioning in this review. To my fellow foodies - don't pass up giving this place try. While only having been here once for brunch and bottomless mimosas these was a superb restaurant!! The mimosas were made with real orange juice and not over powering with the alcohol. Excellent food and service! Cocktails here are fresh and delicious. Their wedge salad with the balsamic reduction and chunks of pork belly is my favorite. Steaks are served sizzling in a cast-iron skillet, so I like to order slightly more rare than my usual preference. The cookie skillet desert with ice cream is a great way to end a great meal at Stabs! read more

This was the worst steak that I ever had. 16 ounce prime rib. 10 ounces was pure fat. Fat is good for flavor but 10 ounces is ridiculous. Never again will I eat there. Then they brought me A 6 ounce filet to replace the prime rib. The filet came out in a very hot skillet with a 1/4 inch of oil in the skillet. Pretty disgusting. Ruth Chris 10 tines better. Have only been to the bar to drink. The bartenders are always nice. We went for a cocktail on New Years. Easily got a bar stool. They even gave us a free glass of champaign for the holiday! read more

Service was great, appetizers were great, salads were great, David is great, much like Kevin was; but the steaks just aren't worth the $$. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but you just can't compare this place to Ruth's Chris' steaks. I've tried steaks 5 different times here and just doesn't seem like Prime beef. Sea Bass was good and other items were good, but they just can't get the steaks right is why I give them 3 stars. We will come back, but just will give up on the steaks. read more

I didn't even get to try the food here because they ruined Mother's Day reservations. Had a table reserved and arrived at the appropriate reservation time but was told that we would have to wait until the party currently eating at our table finished. I understood that aspect (but still not good scheduling methods). What I absolutely did not understand is when a a party the same size as mine walked in LATE, with the same reservation time as my table, and they were IMMEDIATELY seated. Mind you, when this happened we had already been waiting 15 minutes for our table. The hostess explained they have "assigned tables". The manager (David) walked up and we questioned him about it. He would not take immediate ownership to understand our frustration. All he said was "I just walked up so I'm in the blind". Once he finally took time to see what we were upset about, he reiterated the assigned table nonsense. No one should be penalized for arriving promptly because you had names written out on a sheet of paper before hand. The manager acted like their sheet of paper with their table assignments was set in stone. We did not stay to eat but left because no establishment with that type of customer service and will be receiving our money. read more

My wife and I went to Stabs brunch this morning and it is the only Chef class restaurant in Central, La. My wife had the Turtle soup for her appetizer and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Spicy Ravigote. The turtle soup was as good as Justin Wilson's (who made that for us at his home on the Tickfaw River years ago - remember him?). I had the Shrimp & Grits, with La. style tomato-shrimp roux and pepperjack cheese grits for my appetizer and the Filet Tips and Scrambled Eggs with Creamed Leek Potatoes and Hollandaise sauce. The crab cake was one pound of lump crab meat (no breading) mixed with ravigote which is a classic, lightly acidic sauce in French cuisine which is a a velouté, with herbs. Of course we both had the bottomless mimosa made with fresh-squeezed orange juice adorned with a fresh strawberry. We finished up with bananas foster and house-made ice cream and coffee. What I will say is all of the dishes were of superior chef quality and simply delicious. This is world class cuisine in Central, Louisiana. The service was fantastic, the setting was beautiful in the New Orleans French Quarter style. The prices are fitting and from my experience low for such fabulously prepared dishes by an experienced Chef. I will say my wife licked her crab cake dish which we staged; took a picture of and sent to the Chef ... not crude ... just a cute way to express to them in a non-conventional way how well we enjoyed the food. Welcome LSU families, take a break from the college scene and hop on over to Stab's. Was just there over parent's weekend. My daughter wanted real food. There are very few places that I can say I love, but this place was it! Atmosphere and attention are top notch and so are the prices, but so well worth it. Our table had several types of meat, lobster and I had the lamb with a crab cake added onto it. AMAZING. We had the bread pudding for desert, and my fussy 19 year old and 17 year old devoured it. I was gonna go to Stab's tomorrow because my cousin loves this place. But, after looking at these food pics, I would never pay these prices for the little effort I see in their menu dish descriptions and their dish images here on Yelp. At their prices, I was expecting that my mouth would water. I even installed the Yelp app just to see more pictures. If anyone from this restaurant ever sees this, please take my advice and have some professional pics taken of your dishes. Choose the dishes with a nicer visual appeal. Nothing stands out about your food on any of your basic internet presentations, not your website and surely not your Yelp page which is also where your Google images come from. I can't be the only consumer who chooses new restaurants by Googling the images of their menu items. Your restaurant obviously has a good reputation, just make yourself more irresistible to possible newcomers. My impression is that your restaurant is over-priced with little flavor creativity. I can't recall not wanting to go to a more upscale restaurant because I checked it out on the internet, this action usually makes me more eager. read more
