I tried Stack'd Burger Bar with a group of coworkers, the place is pretty modern, lots of room and a great variety of beer. I ordered the "Don't mess with Texas" bison burger, this burger is delicious topped with chipotle cheese, jalapeños, onion ring and bbq sauce. I was not impressed by this place. We were seated in a dingy corner facing a blank wall despite being there at a fairly dead time on a Saturday. The music made us feel like we were at an Eastern European EDM festival lol. The menu is printed on printer paper and is really cluttered and hard to parse through. My boyfriend and I thought the specialty burgers options had lackluster topping combinations, so we did build-you-own. My boyfriend got the Texas toast as his bun and was super disappointed--it was like two pieces of under-toasted white bread that couldn't support his burger and toppings. My burger was really fatty, and both of ours were much more done than we requested. The fries were really good! We didn't like that we ordered sauces for our burgers and they came on the side, only because it was really messy and the tables do not have napkin caddies. Wouldn't have been an issue otherwise. Unlike for other reviewers, our service was fine. I'm sure the patio is nice in the summer, but I don't think we'll be back. Tonight i tried stack'd in the third ward of Milwaukee. Cool place, easy parking, it was a slow Monday night. Inside, the bar area was quiet and as i sat at the bar the friendly bartender, Jack, greeted me. (Good start, check box #1) The menu is great, lots of offerings, kind bar food but seemingly with a nice twist. I ordered a basic meal of burger-medium rare, and fries. About ten minutes later (check box 2) my food arrived. My medium rare burger was a healthy medium well (uncheck) and my fries were cool to the touch (major uncheck). They didn't even try to fake it and hold the fries under a warmer (which in itself is a major sin in my book) my fries were cold......COLD i tell you !! The only time I'll eat cold potatoes is when it's mixed with mayo and celery on memorial Day. Who in the kitchen could have thought this was ok? Note to manager- cook fries to order. Measure them out and drop the fries when the burger is halfway cooked. I would have been so happy to eat my dinner with a burger in one hand and hot fries in the other. Nope i choked down my almost well done (oxymoron) burger and 5 minutes later, my 2nd course of fries arrived. Fire the kitchen staff, fire everyone, (keep the bartender who kindly listened to me whine. I'll come back but the freakin fries better be hot. Ok. I've been around town where beef is good and burger tradition is strong: Chicago, New York, Wichita KS, and many more. This was the best burger I've had in my life. Hands down. Case closed. First of all I like the vibe of the place, but I like the vibe of Milwaukee so I guess it keeps with the city, especially the Third Ward. It is classic loft decor and it's easy to park around there. The bar is really cool looking btw. I showed with three kids in tow, and they even have a kid menu. The service was friendly and drinks came pretty quickly. We had to wait on our food perhaps a beat longer than what I'm used to but I'm not gonna ding' em for it. It takes time to produce a work of art. Can't rush it and so it's ok. He beer selection is vast and filled with yummy stuff. They even have wines - and a bubbly selection that she enjoyed. The liquor and cocktail list is surprisingly long for a burger joint. I was impressed. The beef patty is substantial and it's grass fed beef. Had mine with Wisconsin cheddar (duh!) bacon and caramelized onions (hey I ran the Milwaukee marathon today so I'm not too worried about my heart today. I have been coming here for years. It has slowly gotten worse and worse. The size of the burgers has significantly gotten smaller. It seems the quality of the beef has declined. And the prices have went up. We just had two burgers, an appetizer and one beer and a soda and it was $70 including tip. . That is completely insane. I will not be coming back. They use dedicated gluten free fryers and have been extremely careful with my multiple food allergies and made sure to label read whatever I needed. Was curious to how this place would stack (haha) up against other burger places. My verdict, there are better places to get a burger. I think this place is a bit overpriced. There are no substitutions since they have the build your own burger option but I can't imagine many people choose that option. Had I built what I wanted, the burger would have cost $17 which just seems like a lot to me for a casual dining restaurant. I went with the hangover burger which was good but incredibly messy. The bar had a decent beer selection, and recently hosted a 3 sheeps tap take over. Fries were average. Honestly the item that was our favorite was the coleslaw. It was amazing. My sis and I had a taste for fried pickles. So we decided to stop in. I've been to this place before, but never tried the appetizer menu. We were greeted and seated promptly. The service was fast and courteous. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was AMAZING!!! We ordered several items off the appetizer menu. The sliders and the loaded fries were awesome. Came here for my 15th birthday and it was pretty damn good. Server was super cool and friendly. Food was good, I built my own burger. Lots of options. I did a pretzel bun, breaded chicken, lettuce, tomato, swiss cheese, bbq mayo sauce, and tetris tots for my side. I really liked the fried pickle they had impaled on the top of the burger. For those who prefer not to eat meat, you can choose either a portabella mushroom, black bean veggie, or chickpea walnut. Once you pick your protein, then you can pick your cheeses, toppings, and your bun. And they will cook your burger to your desired temperature. Stack'd has over 100 beer selections, both bottle and tap. If you are looking for a new or different beer to try, this would be a good place for you to check out. My favorite burger in milwaukee along with a good selection of craft beers makes this a favorite staple. The one real knock here is that it's a bit pricey for a burger, but so what it's worth it. My real trick is to try only coming here when my diet allows me the call=ories I'm about to throw down because it's a big burger and fries and beers and well you see where I'm going with this. I've been here a ton of times and my favorite seat is at the bar. I get the best service there over anywhere else. The rest of the place I'd say service is average. There is outdoor seating to enjoy the short mke summers, but your sitting by the street so you can't see much of anything. If they have a burger of the week special on the chalkboard I'd say try it as I've had some great things that way. Otherwise the hangover stack is always great! read more

"A-ok" pretty much sums it up for Stack'd. We stopped for lunch during Doors Open last weekend since it was convenient and I'd wanted to try it for awhile. The Mister ordered a "Don't mess with Texas" burger which is bison, BBQ and cheese. I tested a bit and the patty was juicy and flavorful. My burger was turkey with bacon, cheese + avocado. For a turkey burger it was moist and was flavored mostly with sage - definitely very good but I'd vote Hamburger Mary's turkey burger as better. My gripe is that Stack'd is way, way, way overpriced. My burger broke down like this: turkey ($12), cheese ($1), bacon ($1.50), avocado (1.50) and an upcharge for a side of fruit instead of fries ($1.50). That means my naked turkey patty with fruit was....$17.50. That's absolutely insane. Two burgers, one beer and one soda = $40. I liked what I had but it wasn't life changing or anything - so I kind of had a hard time with the pricing. This was my third time coming here and was probably the first I had just an "okay" experience. Usually I get my food to go.... Yes, everyone is correct... the prices are a bit high. I usually get the Wisconsin burger with a Turkey patty sub and no bacon. Apparently my server felt I was making too many modifications and suggested to make it a build your own. Build your owns are more expensive, and I've gotten this burger twice before with no up-charge. A fried egg comes on this burger and I requested for it to be fried hard. Milwaukee's most okayest burger... ...known for its hard to differentiate signature burgers (pay a dollar less and get the hangover minus egg if you want the wall burger), and highwayman robbery of your wallet when you get your bill. 1/3 Angus mediocrity patties that will cook themselves as you wonder where your server went. The options to make your own burger is plentiful, and they serve a better impossible burger than Benelux up the road, but I'm not sure which of the two restaurants would be insulted more by being in the same sentence with the other. Our appetizers and fries were good - my black bean burger on the other hand, was a flop. Quite literally. As soon as I picked up the burger, half of it flopped out onto my plate. I order the portobello burgers on a GF bun with tomato, caramelized onion, jalapeños, garlic aioli and lettuce with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend ordered the grass fed beef burger (medium) on a pretzel bun with all the toppings and regular fries. My mushroom "burger" was essentially a raw portobello that was thrown on a grill for one minute. The tomatoes were not ripe ... they forgot the aioli and the bun tasted 100% freezer burnt. It was extremely dry. The same issue with my boyfriends burger - it crumbled while eating and was very dry. We ordered aioli on the side of fries. The fries were extra soggy and cold. The aioli all had zero flavor? When we were seated out server/bartender was super nice and gave us her recommendations for drinks and food. I went with a naked (no bun) Kick in the Pants which I thought had a good spice. Not a huge bacon fan, but the jalapeno bacon on that burger was good! I've only recently been turned onto sweet potato french fries, so when I saw the option I took it. I really liked them a LOT. The menu also had a bunch of dipping sauces which always appeals to me (if I dips, I sits.) The service was fast, despite how busy they were. Prices are a little on the high end, but the portions were great and I had leftovers for the next day. I would definitely recommend it and plan on heading back for more! I will admit that I walked into Stack'd expecting to be thoroughly underwhelmed. I had this preconceived notion that it's one of those places that has a clever name and a neat looking exterior, which makes people want to eat there regardless of the mediocre food. To my surprise, the menu had some salads that actually had me wondering if I should skip having a burger in lieu of something lighter. Next time, perhaps. I ordered the Hangover Stack on a pretzel bun and the mac & cheese as the side. My wife ordered the black bean patty on a pretzel bun with the veggie toppings with the vinegar and oil coleslaw as her side. When the burger arrived, I was surprised at how fresh the toppings were. Even the tomato looked decent for it being April in Wisconsin. My burger was very tasty, but dripped a lot. Granted, I expected a burger with that many toppings to be a bit runny so it was no big deal. The meat was nicely cooked, as was the bacon and the fried egg. My wife's black bean burger looked to be made in-house, and she said it was tasty. My side of mac & cheese was tasty and just the right amount. I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular, but it hit the spot. The coleslaw was sort of bland and definitely could have used more vinegar. The fried pickle chips that come with each burger were a nice touch, but the breading is similar to what you would find on fish sticks. As such, the breading is almost bigger than the pickle chip itself and has a tendency to take over and hide the taste of the pickle. Overall, I was very satisfied with the atmosphere, service and quality of food. I'm not the biggest burger junkie, but it's a place I can recommend to people if they ask. The pros: Jack who was our server, the bar tender, and the squirrel wrangler was really good. The host was super nice and attentive. The beer menu is decent and they offer a wide variety of interesting cocktails. The menu in general is one that could entice me back a few more times. The standard bun is stellar. The build your own burger menu is nice if you're particular or picky about your toppings. The cons: It's expensive. There's no other way to slice it. I built my own burger with mushrooms and mayo with a side of onion rings and it came out to $15.50. They charge $.50 for all the mayos, even the regular which is kind of odd. My husband's burger came out to $16.50. If you get one of their pre-designed offerings (the Hangover, the Campfire, or the Kick in the pants), you'll spend $14 which may be the way to go. I asked for mine rare, it came blue, which is fine I ate it anyway. My husband asked for medium and he ended up getting well-done so that's disappointing at that price point at a place that advertises they cook to order. The meat itself is not that great. It's pretty gamey. I get that some of that is grass fed vs corn fed, but this was almost off-putting. My first impression was that it was dirty. The table, the menus, the napkin dispensers, the bathrooms were all grungy which definitely doesn't jive with a place that charges well over $14 a burger. When people ask about "burgers" in MKE, there are PLENTY of options. Even so, Stack'd is typically on my "recommend" list - and definitely the best burger in Walker's Point. The best part? Options. You can build-your-own burger - which pretty well guarantees everyone will get what they want. Several options for patty type mean you can get Bison meat or pick between several vegetarian options. Cheese, toppings and side options are all pretty robust and if you're debating on bun type - just go with the pretzel bun. If you're concerned about pricing, just be cautious on the build-your-own (or go to a different place - Stack'd is NOT a cheap burger joint)! It's easy to add on everything that looks good and end up with a pretty pricey burger! The "preset" burger options also cover a wide variety but help with price control. All burgers are topped with a fried pickle, which adds some extra intrigue. Would not recommend picking the slaw for a side - you will get a LOT of it, and it's a pretty run-of-the-mill slaw - not worth eating in bulk. Stack'd has a full bar and a lot of local brewing options. Plus they have "spiked" or "virgin" shake and float options. So you have options for both workday luncheon and weekend shopping boozing. Service / wait times at Stack'd can be hit or miss. - Have gone with larger groups for work lunches and have seen both awesome and atrocious service (like, so long of a wait on getting food that we almost left kind of atrocious)... It's nice that they have space to accommodate larger groups though (just call ahead)! - A regular week night dinner has seen quick and pleasant service or super awkward slow service. - There have been a few Friday nights where Stack'd was the only place downtown without a 30 minute wait to be seated though, and that's a HUGE plus when you're starving. So really, it's been all over the board for Stack'd and I over the past few years. Typically street parking isn't too bad on the edge of Walker's point there either - Stack'd does NOT have a private lot. Definitely would NOT try to get to Stack'd via car if it's Summerfest season with the way traffic goes. Basically: If you're a burger fan, Stack'd is definitely worth a stop. read more

The coleslaw was not your typical coleslaw. It was very onion heavy, but not too bad. The burgers: One mushroom and one black bean both on pretzel bun. Both had vegan cheese, and other topics. All was perfect. Nice temperature, cheese was melted, and the taste was by far the two best burgers I've had since going vegan. First time here because a friend loves their turkey burgers. I'm a beef or bison girl, but made the very poor choice of a chicken breast. I imagined a nice plump breast with a few toppings. Instead I got a very flat, pounded to death flavorless piece of meat. They didn't even get the toppings correct. I was terribly disappointed, but the fries kinda saved the lunch? Turkey & bison burgers were also at the table. The bison was alright, turkey was meh. Other sides were fruit, which was okay, and mac & cheese, not liked/not eaten. And then there's the prices. Oiy. For real? A bad chicken sandwich cost me $15. I can think of so many better places to spend my money and time. Go if you feel the need to go to a semi popular burger place. Otherwise, keep walking into the Third Ward and get yourself a real burger elsewhere. read more

I went to Stack'd for the first time on a Friday night. We did not get their until late - 9:45pm - and the place was extremely busy. We were told it would be a 30-40 minute wait. It appeared as though many tables were just there to social and had been long finished with their meal. This was quite annoying as there were many people waiting to be seated. Several of the waiting groups left after 20 minutes as none of us had been seated, and the restaurant closed at 11pm. We were finally seated after about 35 minutes. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient, and got us drinks right away. The place was so busy that we couldn't even squeeze up to the bar to get a "waiting" drink between the groups of people and others having their meal at the bar. I liked their "build your own burger" concept, although it was pricer than anticipated. I settled on a Hot Mess with bacon (3 cheese grilled cheese w/bacon). It was delicious and the breaded, deep fried pickle was really good. I generally hate pickles, but these were great! Probably because deep frying anything makes it better ;) The sandwiches/burgers are large, and the fries and their specialty mac 'n cheese sides were very tasty. My boyfriend got the Hangover Burger - which I would definitley recommend for someone who has never come here before... the fried egg on top seemed like it could run the burger with an eggy taste (eggs are another food I am not a fan of), but it was actually really good. Overall: Good idea and good food, but this place is not large enough to accommodate the large volume of people that come here on a weekend evening. It is also slightly over priced. I would come back again on a week night, when it would hopefully be less busy, and also when I am not on a tight budget to try a build-your-own creation. The brunch menu also looked intriguing. Another plus - most of their sandwiches are, or can be made, gluten free! Also, a lot of their specialty sandwiches (not the create-your-own) are pork-based, which was not good for me because pork makes me ill, but a huge plus for the pork lover. read more

Mannnn this place is amazing, while up this far north, wanted a quick bite. This place didn't let me down. Several good choices to make on Burgers. You can't go wrong. Hell of a draft beer collection too. Came back again, to make sure. Nothing changed! Except, my bar buddy? Green Bay ain't got NO QB now!!!! Lol Go Bears!!! The food was ok. Glad I tried it. Not a fan. The server was very pleasant. I was expecting more options on the menu but it was pretty simple. I was surprised to see so many kids but it's cool as there are not to many spots in the area that are kid friendly. read more
