I have been here a couple of times now and have left feeling disappointed each time. This last time around, I went in on a random Monday around 10am. They were definitely constantly busy. The servers can use some serious training on customer service. I mean I ever smiled at one while waiting for my daughter to use the restroom, but instead got an uncomfortable glare. The hot chocolate that we ordered came to the table cold. My mom took one sip and told them. They had two servers come hold the cup and give us dirty looks and be like what do you want us to do. Finally taking it back and bringing another one. The attitude of multiple servers sucked! Not to mention their food was bland. My dish needed everything more. I was hungry so ate what I could, but honestly it was sub par. My daughter's chicken was half on the burnt side. We ended up taking the breading off to give her the bland chicken inside. This place is always packed and I have yet to discover why. Food is mediocre at best and service is subpar.
Great food. Huge servings. The menu is Hawaiian/Filipino-inspired breakfast flavors like ube, guava, spam and Portuguese sausage. They have a small indoor seating area but lots of tables outside. I am very impressed with how clean the outside is. There were always 2-3 people bussing and wiping tables. Amazing! These ladies need a raise! Ordering is easy. They have a giant menu on the wall so if you're not up at the counter yet, you can decide while browsing the breakfast and lunch choices. By the time I finished ordering, a long line had formed around 10AM. Food came out fairly quickly. We ordered: * 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon with pancakes * 2 eggs, Portuguese sausage with pancakes * Loco Moco with spam Everything was delicious and filling! This is the type of place you want to keep returning to so you can try all the different Belgian waffles, pancakes, crepes, fried rice, etc. I really wanted a Belgian waffle but I was so full from my Loco Moco! Next time. :)
I'm sad to leave this 1-star review. We have been ordering delivery from the Irvine location for about 6 years. We enjoy the food and our kid loves their French toast. However, we had an issue with a breakfast burrito a few weeks ago that had a big metal piece in it. I almost broke my tooth... It looked like a commercial food bag tied (shown on the picture) fell into the food during prep. I've reached out to the restaurant via their "info" and their Instagram page. I sent follow up email and a message. I waited longer than I probably should have. They didn't bother to respond. It was a simple customer service issue with very simple resolution - reply to the email, recognize the issue and offer a resolution. Instead, here we are... We might or might not order from Stacks Pancake House again, but we feel our patronage wasn't appreciated at all. This is a privately owned business, and we are disappointed in their customer service or the luck there of...
Was great! It reminded me of Hawaii. I really enjoy good Ube and they did Ube right. I tried their cow and eggs and the cow beef was spot on. And I had a side of the Ube pancakes and they were decadent. I would recommend for anybody to try them. The service was welcoming. It was friendly and definitely inspired me to want to go back. Thanks for the great breakfast. Look forward to the next visit.
It was pretty crowded on a Saturday morning but line moves fairly fast! Service was great ans they have many tables inside and outside. 1. Loco moco (3/5): the gravy was on the sweeter side to my liking and the meat was a big dry. Not sure if I'll get this again 2. Egg benefit pork (4/5): this one was good but on this day the eggs were not running. They overcooked it a little so I was abit sad about that. The pork was also a bit drier for some reason. Potatoes were good tho!
Sunday brunch and we came at the perfect time no line and we got seated right away. I suggested this spot to my boyfriend while we were doing some Trader Joe's shopping nearby, and it didn't disappoint. He loved the food and said he'd definitely come back to try more items. This place is an OG spot for me growing up in OC, especially around Irvine. We ordered the chicken fried steak and loco moco with drinks iced Milo Dino and an iced latte. Everything was about an 8.5/10. Servers were very nice ! We sat outside and it was a good timing to be seated outside was a perfect weather
Sadly, I was really disappointed with my food this time around. My Guava Toffee French Toast was just okay. I didn't care for the sauce. What was really disappointing was the Spam Musubi. There was way too rice compared to the small slice of spam and piece of seaweed you get. And I could barely taste the sauce, so mine was really dry.
Stacks Pancake House is a great casual brunch spot with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the setup is simple and efficient--you order at the front counter and take a number if you're dining in, or wait for your food if you're doing takeout. You can also order online for takeout. We ordered the Captain Crunch Nut French Toast, and it definitely stood out to us --perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the right amount of sweetness when paired with the syrup. My husband ordered the Prime Rib Loco Moco for $28, a weekend-only special, and it was absolutely worth it. The portion was generous, with a full 12 oz of prime rib served with egg and rice. The food came out quickly, and the service was friendly and efficient. Even my husband, who doesn't usually crave brunch, said we should come back more often. Overall, a solid brunch spot with great food and smooth service. Definitely worth checking out!
Stacks Pancake House reminded me of Aloha Stacks I visited at Mission Viejo and RSM. Similar menu, similar style of ordering and serving. The Culver location has many tables outdoors shared by eateries nearby. I enjoyed the CBH omelette I ordered. It came with a small serving of salsa which is pretty tasty. I had a bite of Portuguese sausage which is good too. There is only one size of coffee available but you can get free refill if you want to take the time to see the cashier at the counter. The ordering line could be long depending on when you arrive. Fortunately it moves pretty fast. We were able to grab a couple of adjacent tables for our large party. Overall it was a good breakfast experience.
The food is amazing! Service, ambience are amazing. The service is prompt! Our food was hot and delicious. This was our first time at this establishment. We will be back!!! Spread the word about this great place!
This place is clean and has plenty of seating. Also to mention if inside the restaurant is full there's plenty of seating outside too and the servers will being the food to your table as they give you a number locater to put on your table. The food was so ono (delicious)!!! It came out hot and fresh. The Kalua pork had good flavor with the perfect hint of saltyness to it, as what Kalua Pork should be. The mac salad was on point with the right balance of mayonnaise. The omlette also had good flavor the only downside of the omlette was that it seemed thin. We're used to getting omlettes that are fluffy, but overall the flavor of the Kalua Pork was what made our meal good. The Spam Musubi had great flavor with the Teriyaki sauce glazed on it and the Spam with fried perfectly. We will definitely be back to try out some of the other onolicious looking items on the menu.
The food was good, but kind of overpriced. The waffles were not crunchy at all, which was a little disappointing. Service is ok, not great. The line to order was pretty long, but there was plenty of seating.
Haven't been to stacks in a while, brought my sister here to try their pancakes which were DELICIOUS! The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy, not too oily, and you can adjust the sweetness with maple syrup. I got the breakfast egg burrito which was pretty good, I just think the potato's were a bit too mushy. Salsa = yum. We also got the Katsu Curry, would not order again Let me just say, the portion sizes are amazing for the price! You do order at the counter and it gets crowded. Seating is limited indoors so many sit outside. Would definitely come again to try the Huevos Ranchos plate and the other pancakes flavors!!
Decent breakfast for the price. I had two scrambled eggs with bacon and pancakes. It's not often I eat breakfast type food I'm more of a lunch or dinner person. The food and service was good. If I ever crave breakfast and am nearby, I'd return. read more

Cute and affordable breakfast/lunch spot. Stacks pancake house is located in the Trader Joe's plaza on culver. Parking can be a little tricky due to the Trader Joe's customer. We came on a weekday lunch and it wasn't too crowded, heard lines on the weekend can get long. Stacks has Hawaiian dishes including pancakes, French toast, loco moco, katsu, and more! I got the breakfast burrito with kalua pork ($10). Portion for the kalua pork was generous! The kalua pork was well cooked and came with a side of salsa and chips. Wish the potatoes inside were crisper and burrito had more cheese in it, but overall a solid burrito. I tried a bit of my coworkers strawberries and cream pancake and it was also solid, very generous on the whipped cream. Overall, casual brunch place with filling dishes! Would love to try the French toast my next visit! read more
I went here during a lunch break outing from a recommendation from a coworker. She had been here for breakfast and loved it. I hadn't eaten that day, but opted for lunch - since the cheesy chicken and waffles did not look appetizing from yelp photos. I got the chicken katsu plate which came with two scoops of rice and one scoop of mac salad and a decent amount of katsu. The katsu was crispy, but the sauce was mid. I had to ask for soysauce for the rice. There are definitely better places to get hawaiian bbq at, so this was partially my fault. I might give them another shot for breakfast, but will not be back for lunch items. read more

From start to finish, there was at least an 8 person line when I got there Sunday morning at 1030, the line moved quick! The place was full, clean, good vibes. They have plenty of outdoor seating! The food came out in 20 minutes even though the place was packed! The food was amazing! Affordable prices! The chicken katsu wasn't dry, the macaroni salad was so good & the rice was moist! This was the best food I've had in a while! It's so difficult to find a place where they pour in love and passion into their food. The service was amazing, quick and friendly. The ambiance is nice and light, we sat outside and the day was so beautiful. I had the island chilaquiles with ribeye The chilaquiles were spicy and flavorful. My eggs were cooked to perfection My partner had the kalua pork Benedict. The kalua pork was melt in your mouth perfection and tender. Hollandaise sauce was creamy and velvet like. We both had the Hawaiin latte, I would come back just for this iced coffee. It's bold and not too sweet, which is what I love about specialty coffees 10/10 would recommend to everyone read more

No line at 9am on a Saturday morning. You order at the counter, then take a number and find a seat (there are both indoor and outdoor options). The food came out quickly, and is representative of just good, quality, no frill Hawaiian food. Portions are large (we couldn't finish and took half of the food home). The server was also even kind enough to add a coffee to our order so that we didn't have to go back and wait in line. The line to order did get pretty long as we were leaving, but overall, this a great spot for a hearty simple breakfast. read more
This past weekend, we were in the Irvine area supporting my niece as she performed in a Filipino Culture Night event. The following day we met up with my brother's family for breakfast since we didn't get to celebrate his daughter's performances because her event got out so late. I recommended Stacks Pancake House based on high Yelp rating and positive reviews. What also intrigued me about Stacks was their Hawaiian influenced dishes. It was a great choice especially if you're a peanut butter fan because their Crunchy Peanut Butter + Banana French Toast was soooooooo delish. Stacks is a small chain restaurant consisting of four restaurants located around the Orange County area. I'm assuming Stacks is owned by a Hawaiian or has origins from Hawaii because when you peruse their menu, you'll see plenty of Hawaiian dishes. The Stacks location we visiting is located in the Irvine area specifically in an outdoor strip mall on Culver Drive. This strip mall contains Trader Joe's, Omomo Tea Shoppe, The Kebab Shop, and the restaurant is next to a Smart & Final and Dolan's. There is plenty of parking at this location, but it's a busy location. As you enter the restaurant, there really isn't any decor that attributes Stacks to Hawaii. There are framed pics of food; the color scheme is green and beige; the indoor seating isn't too big; and there is umbrella outdoor seating. When you walk inside, you'll immediately order at the counter and they'll provide you with a number for the servers to bring your food. One of the servers didn't speak English, so she couldn't answer my questions about the food she was bringing out to us. Stacks has a diverse and extensive menu, so before you visit, I recommend that determine what you're going to order before you get in line. Stacks is a popular breakfast spot as the line to order food extended outside. I wished I had taken more time to look over the menu, but what grasped my attention immediately was the Crunchy Peanut Butter + Banana French Toast. I'm an aficionado of peanut butter, so when I saw that their French Toast contained peanut butter, I was all in. The Crunchy Peanut Butter + Banana French Toast is made with Hawaiian Sweet Bread, dusted with powder sugar, the peanut butter is in the middle of the bread, the peanut butter is piped on top of the bread, and the banana is sliced on top of the bread. When I took my first bite, I was in peanut butter heaven. Combine all the ingredients of this dish with the maple syrup and it was indulgence with every single bite. Not sure what they did to make the French Toast crunchy, but I loved the texture of that crunch. I just wish there was more on that plate. To cut the sweetness of my meal, I ordered a side of Portuguese sausage. The sausage was charred slightly and I enjoyed it, but for $6, I thought it was a small serving. My parents instilled in my brothers and I that family comes first always. I was glad that my wife and I were able to support our niece at her performance. It was even more of a blessing to spend quality time with our family enjoying a delicious breakfast at Stacks Pancake House. read more
Oh no. We stopped in cuz we were hungry, and maybe it was on us to not order pancakes at a pancake house - but the food was not great. Every veggie was undercooked, from the mushrooms to the green peppers to the onions. My boyfriend's "caramelized onion" on his burger was ... raw? The salad was just romaine lettuce, and the hollandaise sauce was super watery. The service was very quick, and the crepes were alright, but overall disappointed. read more
My coworkers and I tend to go to their other location at The Bluffs out near the 73 freeway at the MacArthur Blvd exit. The last time we all went out for lunch, we decided to give this location a try as it was pretty much equidistant from where we work. This one was on Culver Dr just south of the 5 freeway. There was ample amount of parking at this Walnut Village Center location. Per the usual, after we placed our orders, we were given a number to place at our table. Since the weather was nice, we opted for a table outside. Once our food was ready, someone brought it out to our table. I usually get their loco moco, but today I went with one of their specials, the deep fried ox tails served with 2 eggs and rice. Stacks always delivers in taste, service, and value! Brunch spots can be overpriced and underwhelming sometimes but Stacks is always serves flavorful, hot and fresh food. I appreciate how you can sit anywhere in the outside seating in the Walnut Plaza making it easy to find a table almost every time. My favorites are their Portuguese sausage and crepes. Not pictured but the UBE PANCAKES are a must try. They have great POG juice too!! read more

Overall good food and service. There's plenty of free parking and places to sit inside or outside. If the weather's nice, certainly consider eating outside while enjoying good food. The setting is very casual, with people relaxing and enjoying their time. This first time, my wife, daughter, and I took it family style. We had the trio waffles (strawberries, blueberries, and bananas), kalua pork omelette, and Portuguese sausage fried rice. Came here during a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait at all! There were plenty of tables open, so going in and out was really easy. Ordering process was easy as well, walk up to the counter, and seat your self after you paid. My friends ordered the loco mocos and I wanted to try the Cap Mac Nut w/ Banana french toast, but I accidentally got the pancake. I didn't realize they were separate, but I should've double checked! My friends got the loco mocos here and they all seemed to have really enjoyed it a lot! I got to try it a little bit and it seemed like your standard loco moco! I tried the Cap mac nut pancake, and the pancake was really fluffy. I think this would have tasted better with syrup than butter since it was a little dry, but it was pretty standard as well. I liked how you can just get a "short stack" of just two, which is just enough for me lol. One of my favorite breakfast spots! We love taking out-of-town visitors to Stacks because of their unique, tasty options. Haven't had a meal here that I haven't loved. The service is always good. You definitely want to plan for a passeggiata post-meal as these calorie dense, hearty meals will leave you feeling stuffed (but it's so good, you can't stop eating) and throw you off your weight goals. Even if you are in the mood for something savory, you have to try their pancakes! I don't usually seek out franchised places, but it's well worth an exception to any "rule". No matter which location you go to, the food and service are spectacular. Great place for friends, family, or a casual date. Classic brunch with a Hawaiian twist! We tried their Ube Coconut pancakes and I ordered an Avocado Omelette for myself. The pancakes were a short stack of two and had plenty of ube flavor since both the batter and syrup on top were vibrantly purple from the ube. The omelette and potatoes were solid, the meal helped satisfy my brunch cravings. I tried some of the Island Chilaquiles from someone at my table who ordered it but it wasn't as good as I expected. Was expecting a more lively environment, but seemed generic. Positive would be the food variety- great menu. Negative would be wants tip to make order??? Your position is to take orders... Nothing special was done but what is required of you. Beyond that, waitress didn't come by, and my daughter mentioned the vibe was generic... but good menu. Not sure what the hype is. Was not at all impressed with the food. Our table ordered the: Loco Moco with katsu (other options are hamburger, Portuguese sausage, spam), Corned beef hash, and a Simple breakfast (pancakes, eggs, bacon). The food was bland and pretty basic. The saving grace for the pancakes was the coconut syrup (you have to request it). It's not really a syrup, it's more like the consistency of clotted cream, but delicious nonetheless. Parking is rough, it's just a really busy plaza. The wait was kinda long, it's a really popular location. If you don't mind sitting outside, you can order and pay at the restaurant, and find a table anywhere outside. read more
Sunday breakfast at 9am and it wasn't too crowded (yet). I do love me some good bfast but I'm a sucker for hawaiin food (and mac salad) so I got the chicken katsu. I probably should have gotten something pancake related as... it's in the name. The chicken was just okay, as it was a tad too cold and dry. The sauce made it a little bit better but it at the end of the day it's nothing I would come back for. The mac salad was also a little bit.... under salted? Idk it was just a lackluster breakfast. Stacks serves casual breakfast or brunch food with Aloha vibes. The menu is diverse, ranging from pancakes to classic Hawaiian plates like Loco Moco and Kalua Pig. Some highlights: Loco Moco - having lived in Hawaii, this is my favorite local dish, and they do it pretty well. My only gripe is that the patty usually comes out overcooked. The fried rice as a base elevates this dish to the next level. Corned Beef Hash - minced corned beef and potatoes seared to crisp thinness. It's hard to go wrong. Pancakes - their banana and Macadamia nut are solid choices, but the deep purple ube pancake sprinkled with coconut and covered in purple condensed milk is a fun, tasty alternative. Their coconut syrup goes great with other pancakes. French toasts - the cereal french toasts are very instagrammable and tasty. With that said, I'm a savory brunch gal so these aren't my go-tos. Other memorable and interesting dishes include the Kalbi plate, hibachi meats (reminds me of Benihana back in the day), and Kalua Pig Benedict. The food is consistent, the prices are average for Irvine, and there is a good amount of outdoor and indoor seating. You order by waiting in line by the cashier up front, take a number, and wait at your table - they'll come find you. Avoid a long wait by coming early or on weekdays during off-lunch hours. We took a day trip south and passing by Irvine for lunch. We were going to a curry house in the same area but the line was stupid lon. Y'all know hangry Ms. Fatty is no joke so we decided to try Stacks instead. The menu was overwhelming but we made our decisions quick and got chicken katsu, captain mac nut french toast, moco loco, and a side of kalua pork. We also got the Hawaiian latte which was coconut and macadamia flavored latte. The food was quick and very enjoyable. Chicken katsu was our favorite since it was excellent crunchy outside while juice and tender inside. The leaset favor was the pork due to the texture. Still decent smoky flavor. Overall experience was good. We enjoyed the food and since it was counter service, no expectations on anything. We would revisit the spot if we are in the area, but not something we would drive out for. read more

This experience was weird just by the way you order your food; but it still got to us pretty fast and my food was pretty much perfect. I think the spicy waffle is very good especially if you put two eggs on top. On the other had I think the chicken fried steak and eggs was very bad almost horrible it looked kinda like dog food and had barely warm gravy and eggs that I think they dropped a bottle of pepper on it was not very good. Was looking for a quick place in the area for breakfast/brunch and remembered that someone recommended Stacks. It's in a small shopping plaza so parking was easy but can get really busy around this time. You walk in to order where you're given a number. Seating is first come first serve inside and outside at the tables. We ordered the ube pancake, breakfast burrito and French toast to go. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancake and burrito. I'm a fan of coconut flakes so topping it was good for me but not for my hubby. Salsa for the burrito was perfectly spicy to go on top. We have yet to try to French toast but it looks just as yummy. Busboy was quick to come by and clean all of the tables outside which made it helpful for seating. read more

No, it's a fast casual restaurant so first come first seat; there are indoor and outdoor dining.
Did you change the coconut syrup? The consistency and flavor have not been right the last two times we were there. Embarrassing because we rave about the coconut syrup and took friends. It was really NOT GOOD.
