I got the Wild West Burger, and it was massive in the best way possible. Fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor exactly what you want when you're going in on a big burger like that. Nothing felt overworked or gimmicky, just a solid, delicious burger done right. The sweet potato fries were honestly a standout on their own, crispy on the outside, soft inside, and easily some of the best I've had. Could've made a meal out of just those. Also love that they offer pitchers of fresh juices. That alone puts it over the top for brunch vibes ... refreshing, easy to share, and a nice change from the usual drink options. We came here on a Sunday morning for some breakfast, as we are not very familiar with the area and this is one of the restaurants that popped up. I am so ungrateful that we ended up here, because that was the best omelette I've ever had! We were seated right away which was very nice, and they have plenty of space both inside and outside. Our server was incredibly kind and very attentive. I ordered the El Fuego omelette and the chorizo it had inside was not only perfectly spicy, but truly delicious. Tried out Broken Yolk Cafe for brunch and it definitely delivered a solid, no-frills breakfast experience. Went with the buttermilk full stack, a side of fruit, and sausage patties. The pancakes were exactly what you want fluffy, slightly crispy on the edges, and soaked up the syrup well without getting soggy. Nothing overly fancy, just done right. The fruit was fresh and a nice balance to cut through all the carbs, and the sausage patties had that classic savory, slightly greasy breakfast flavor that hits the spot. Just like any other brunch place, there was a bit of a wait to get in, and it's good to know that you can put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. Once we got to the table, the service was very fast. Food was delicious. I had the oat milk matcha and lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was good. The only thing I noticed was their menu -- everything seemed kind of plain because there are so many other brunch restaurants nearby that all try to make their menu stand out. My mom and I were in the mood for some Easter brunch and decided to try this spot after having always driven past it. Even though Yelp said we were 21st in line, we ended up getting seated 5ish minutes after checking in. it's a cute and welcoming spot, though the light above our booth kept flickering in and out (?). I ordered the golden state benedict, my mom got the hash skillet, and we got a side of bacon. The first pass of our meal came out soon after ordering. I say first pass because we had to send 2 of our items back to the kitchen: my hashbrowns (that accompanied my benedict) and the side of bacon. The overarching word to describe our meal is "limp." My hash browns were limp. I don't think I've ever been served limper hashbrowns. I'm not one to send food back to the kitchen (I'll usually just tough it out), but I wanted crispy hashbrowns and these were just not up to par whatsoever. The bacon was also limp and chewy. Our server kindly took both dishes back to the kitchen, and everything came back a bit crispier soon after. My benedict itself was underwhelming. The English muffin was either severely undertoasted or not toasted at all. For me, an English muffin should be over toasted to compensate for the heavy hollandaise sauce, runny yolk, and all the residual moisture in a benedict -- this one was just limp again. The hollandaise sauce was too heavy and was missing some acidity to round out the sauce and balance all the flavours out. The sauce itself was also a tad broken, but that was honestly the least of my concerns. The hash skillet was arguably more mid. I want to say it was a 95:5 ratio of soggy potatoes to corned beef. There was maybe a soup spoon of corned beef hiding under the potatoes. TLDR: bland and mid. Disappointing experience, only made better by the fact that prices are fair. read more

This is a wonderful breakfast spot when you can get in with minimal wait. I love how roomy and modern this restaurant is. The food tastes fresh and the service (aka prompt refills on coffee) is awesome the handful of times I've visited. Fortunately Broken Yolk had a Yelp wait list we could add our name to, so we shaved off about 10 minutes from our wait time while we drove there. I think we waited about 5 minutes once we arrived at the restaurant. We were seated in a corner booth which was nice and roomy for a party of 3. The food mediocre. Our food was brought to our table under ten minutes. I like that there was always staff walking by if we needed anything we can ask and they were helpful. The waitress checked on us at all the right times. We did not need to ask for our check which I loved. She even checked and brought us to go boxes. I am used to having to wait for the check and wait to get a to go box. If I could change something it would be a larger table space cause we sat at a half a booth table for the six of us. The plates and portions were large. Also the taste of the food was just O.K. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. I ordered the Belgian waffle with strawberry sauce and whipped cream on the side. When it was brought to me it was just waffle with slices of strawberry. So no strawberry "sauce" or puree. It wasn't served with butter I had to ask. If you are eating pancakes or waffles I feel like butter is an automatic pairing that goes with it. The bacon was not cooked "enough" I know everyone has their preference of how crispy or not crispy they like it but it seemed they just warmed up some bacon or "cooked" it for a few minutes it was limp still raw ish looking. Maybe that's why the food was brought so quickly cause the food was just made in a rush. If they spent more time elevating the flavor and quality of the food this place would be amazing. After all these years this was the first time I have been to this Broken Yolk location and I was happy I did. The breakfast was great. I was feeling gluttonous so I got the chicken fried steak with eggs over medium, home fries and sourdough bread. This was one of the better chicken fried steaks I have had, love the gravy and the batter. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The whole meal was perfect. We joined on the Yelp waitlist and it said the wait was only 1-11 min. However, when we arrived we were 21st on the waitlist? But we did get seated in 5-6 min. The atmosphere here was clean, pleasant, hustling on an Easter Sunday as one would expect. My daughter ordered the Golden State Benedict and I chose the Hash Skillet and an extra side of bacon to share. My Hash Skillet had heaps of potato underneath 2 sunny side eggs. There was barely any corned beef hash on here- more of what I would describe as a "dusting" of corned beef, hidden beneath the eggs! The potatoes were unseasoned and just tasted like boiled potatoes. I left behind half a heap of potatoes. Now onto our second plate of Benedict. The side of hash browns was incredibly limp and my daughter had to request it to be re-crisped. They ended up replacing it with browner hash browns. However some comments are in order with the Benedict. The muffin was not toasted enough. When you're having runny yolks and a heavier sauce on top you'd think that a crisp muffin to counterbalance all the wet elements would be in order. But no. The muffin, barely warmed, made the dish feel even heavier and soggy. And the hollandaise lacked lemon juice, a splash of acidity to brighten and lighten the sauce. Lastly were the strips of bacon we ordered extra. They were limp and chewy like shoe leather. They replaced it with browner bacon but alas it still wasn't crispy. Overall, it was a dismal Sunday brunch we had- the type you'd rather sadly want to forget about sooner. This is not a place we'd wish to set foot in again, ever. Received a $15 birthday voucher to the Broken Yolk Cafe, so we decided to try out their Irvine location. We decided to order takeout, since we didn't want to deal with the weekend brunch crowd. Initially, we were going to order online, but hit a few complications so we decided to try to order over the phone instead. We called in and staff basically told us to hold so they can "grab a pen" to take our order. It took them over 10 minutes to grab a pen so we hung up and ended up ordering for takeout in person instead. Upon arrival, the front desk girl said she can't help us because she's off work and the next person will come in to take her place, so everyone awkwardly stood there while waiting for staff change. Once the new girl came in, she helped several parties that came in after me until I told her that I was there to order takeout. She took my order and had me come back in 15 minutes. The food at least came out in a timely manner. We ordered the crispy hashbrowns with scrambled eggs and corned beef hash. We were extremely disappointed in the food. The corn beef hash was soggy and had no flavor. It didn't look edible. The hash browns were not crispy and felt undercooked, for it had a bitter aftertaste. The eggs were fine. We came here on Sunday for lunch around 12:30pm. We requested inside, because we had 2 toddlers and afraid it was too hot. Instead they sat us outside, and were going to seat us directly under the sun. We saw a table slightly in the shade, and told the hostess if we can sit there. Sat us in the shade. They had no kid friendly utensils for babies/toddlers, when I asked for those. They had kids cups, which was great. I had requested 2 waters, OJ, 2 kids waters and coffee. Server gave us 2 kids waters, Large OJ and Coffee. We didn't get the regular ice waters, which is disappointing because you sat us outside, which is hot and I think guest should be hydrated. We requested 2 small plates so we can share our entrees with our babies. When food arrived, we didn't get the 2 small plates. Fruit was not cut into small pieces, and it wasn't much either. The chicken, biscuits & gravy was awful. Unfortunately, service was lacking a lot. It was hard to get someone to wait on us. Even to get a refill on coffee was difficult. Biscuits were very dry. Chicken was 2 small tenders. It was disappointing in presentation, taste and quality. Service was bad. I was looking forward to a nice Sunday brunch but the service and food we chose was not wonderful. I was excited that this place was near me in Irvine, as I've been to a couple of Broken Yolk locations but this one was very off that it was not at all kid friendly. Didn't have a good experience here - not coming back. :( Overpriced and not worth the hype. My party of 3 arrived at about 1030 am Sunday. We expected a wait so we joined the waitlist on Yelp. After about a 30-min wait outside, we saw we'd moved up from 16th to 17th on the wait list. Lot of people were going in and out so we thought this was odd... we checked in with the host to ask about our position on the wait list. Turns out NO ONE was monitoring wait list/check in and customers were being served on walk-up. We were seated right away, but after waiting for 30 minutes for no reason I was a bit peeved. After we got seated, a group behind us just walked in and sat themselves. smh.... The restaurant seemed to be understaffed - that's on mgmt for understaffing on Sunday brunch, of all things. Our waitress was nice and did her best with the traffic. My meal came out on the cold side and was the smallest order of eggs benedict I'd ever seen - meager portions at best. No utensils were ever placed on the table - took two requests to get those. I was still hungry 15 mins after finishing my main course so I ordered two sides , which added almost $15 to my portion of the bill and really inflated the total beyond what I'd thought it was going to be. I usually go to the Original Pancake House in Orange when I'm craving brunch but after going to Target, I noticed there's a Broken Yolk in the same plaza. I've been to this restaurant before but way back in the day and don't remember much except that it's normally super busy and the portions are large. I ordered takeout since it's football Sunday season and we watch games during the day. I got the two egg + 2 sides but they forgot to add my biscuit which was a major bummer. I was looking forward to trying the homemade biscuit so that was unfortunate. I ordered the hash browns (crispy) and they were unfortunately soggy and underwhelming. I've read some reviews that you need to order them "extra, extra crispy" so they're actually cooked to that level of crispiness. I got a side of pancakes which were solid and tried the french toast which could have used more egg batter. Althought the bread was soft and moist, it didn't have enough egg mixed in so it felt like I was eating a really thick piece of toast. Bacon was okay and not thick cut strips.
