Amazing Greek in Greek capital of Queens! It's exactly what you want from a Greek restaurant. Fresh seafood with exceptional seasoning. The appetizers, main course, and desserts were incredible. Service in here was top notch. Came here for a birthday celebration and we were taking care of. The atmosphere is here cheerful and bright. Great time today at Stamatis!

We were craving Greek food and this came highly rated. We ordered the grilled octopus, grilled sea bass, chicken souvlaki platter and moussaka. Everything was delicous. The grilled octopus was extremely tender - so tender you can cut it into pieces with a fork! Unfortunately, the wait time to get our food was extremely long and the service was minimal - which was disappointing.

First off the Calamari was fresh and cooked just right and very tender, the greek salad was good as well. Me and my guests ordered the char grilled lamb soulvaki which was tender and juicy with lemon potatoes. This was my first time coming here,I was visiting from North Carolina and will be back when in New York City. Thanks Stamatis for the experience.

Returned for dinner years later. My boyfriend and I shared a medium Greek salad, grilled octopus, spinach pie and lemon potatoes. Sadly wasn't as good as I remember... way better food at Aliada, Amylos, Anassa, and Telly's.

Came for takeout, stayed for a memorable dinner Stopped into Stamatis to browse the prepared foods, but ended up staying for dinner--and we're so glad we did. George warmly welcomed us and even let us know that street parking would be free after 7:00 p.m.--a small but thoughtful gesture that set the tone right away. The restaurant had a lively, inviting energy, and throughout the meal, George delivered truly five-star service. He mentioned he's been there over 18 years, and it clearly shows in his effortless, seasoned, and genuinely attentive hospitality. Complimentary bread and water with a generous bowl of fresh lemons arrived immediately, a simple yet appreciated touch. We shared a medium Greek salad and grilled octopus--both outstanding, with the octopus especially tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We even took a few bites before remembering to snap a photo. The salad was served with olive oil and herb-infused vinegar on the side, allowing you to dress it exactly to your liking. For our mains, I ordered the grilled whole porgy, while my husband chose the shrimp spaghetti. The portion of fish was quite generous--I ended up taking most of it home, as I was already satisfied after the appetizers. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pasta, and after tasting a couple of his shrimp, I completely understood why--it was delicious. To finish, we were each treated to a complimentary piece of galaktoboureko, a thoughtful and fitting end to the meal. Warm hospitality, a vibrant atmosphere, and well-executed dishes made this a truly enjoyable experience. We'll definitely be back.

Great service & awesome food. Great family friendly atmosphere to dine at with a large group.

I could tell this place was authentic the moment I walked in because everyone was speaking Greek and the menu was even in Greek. (They had an English side too). You can see all the fresh fish when you walk in and the interior is beautifully painted to make you feel like you're eating in Greece. Grilled octopus: You HAVE to try this. The most tender octopus I've ever had in my life. It was grilled to perfection and my favorite dish of the night. Grilled swordfish: I feel like tender/ moist swordfish is hard to find because swordfish is a meatier than most white fish, but this one was cooked perfectly. Lamb Fricassee: Extremely tender and moist lamb shank with a spinach and dill yogurt sauce. This one was our second favorite dish and was immediately devoured by the whole table. I'm normally not the biggest fan of dill but they managed to make it complement the lamb perfectly. Nest: Spaghetti wrapped around beef stew. This one was my least favorite because the beef was not as tender, especially compared to all the other meats we got. However it was still good and I enjoyed the crispy bits. Grilled mixed veggies: Even the veggies were super flavorful! I appreciated how it wasn't overly oily. Overall, probably the best and most authentic Greek food I've had in NYC. Would 100% recommend! They also give free dessert at the end :)

Stamatis knows how to do Greek. You can tell this is where all the Greeks are dining. We started with the grilled octopus and a medium Greek salad. For our mains, we had the Branzini and the lamb chops with sides of rice and lemon potatoes. If you have to pick I side, I would recommend the lemon potatoes. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The grilled octopus is a must order. The service was friendly and the vibe is no frills. If you are craving authentic Greek food, look no further than Stamatis! Highly recommend checking this restaurant out.

I love Mediterranean food so this is a place to not miss especially if you love seafood as well. We got: Grilled octopus 11/10 Grilled squid 8/10 Beet salad 11/10 Saganaki 10/10 Lamb Fricassee 6/10 The grilled octopus was amazing. I can definitely eat two plates of it but I was so full since we ate family style. The beet salad was also the best beet salad I've had. I love the marinate and also how they serve it with the beet leaves. All the other dishes are delicious as well but I wasn't a big fan of the lamb fricassee. The dill was a bit overpowering and the lamb did not taste as fresh. The service was attentive and food came out just in time. They provide complimentary bread in the beginning and also galaktoboureko as desserts at the end. What a lovely place I need to come back another day for the octopus and beet salad and also try other dishes!

I've been here twice, and both times my experience was memorable because of the fantastic staff they have. They are knowledgeable and helpful. On a weekday, it's a bit slower paced but on a Saturday afternoon, it is busy busy! We started with the dips which was a great starter. Then ordered the whole fish (I think sea bass) and some veggies sides. Pretty well balanced for two people. I'd come back with more people because this is quite accommodating for larger groups.

Beautiful painting on the wall is best feature of the place.

The food has always been freshly prepared, in large portions, and cooked quite well. I'm thankful that has not changed much. On my most recent visit, we got a Mix Grilled and Vegetarian Plate to share between four people. There was so much food that we did not have dessert next door as originally planned. Prices are higher nowadays, but you are receiving great value for what you pay. Both chicken shawarma and the beef kufta from the Mix Grilled tasted great, especially with the provided zesty white sauce. I also added hot sauce to mine, which made it more satisfying. The chicken kebab was not bad, it had a nice char, but slightly dry. All of the accompanying humus (a bit salty), salad, rice, and garlic pita were excellent too. For the Vegetarian Plate, though good, I would like the falafels to be fluffier. The best things I enjoyed on the plate was the fried eggplants and baba ghanosh. It also comes with cous cous, which was good. Fresh middle eastern cuisine, made with quality ingredients and care, this restaurant may not be my first choice in Astoria because it's not as sexy as some of the other offerings, but I'm glad that they are still around when I just want a quality meal at a reasonable price.

It was pretty quiet inside, outside of the TV playing somewhat loud highlights from the World Cup on loop (why,) with the servers and staff being helpful and friendly. In comparison to the other pick-your-own seafood spots like AbuQir or Hamido, the spices are a tad lighter here, being almost closer to Astoria Seafood, minus the olive oil. I didn't mind, though, as the fish was all fresh and perfectly prepared. To drink, our table stuck with water, though there are a few mocktails and some sodas, including some Algerian ones. They put down some simple bread with a bit of garlic and herbs, which was refilled. For non-seafood dishes, we had a few. The first was the $8 Hmiss, or Hammis, a dip made with roasted pepper, tomato, and garlic sautéed in olive oil. The warm dish was earthy and garlicky, and went perfectly with the bread, with the flavor reminding me of a warmer version of some Turkish eggplant dips. There was also the Peasant Salad for $12, with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and Kalamata olives topped with feta, oregano, and dill. If you're familiar at all with Horiatiki/Village salad, it's basically the same thing, though with crumbled feta instead of a block, and it was refreshing and tasty. Finally, we eventually got an $8 side order of Basil Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were decent. The first seafood to arrive at the table was the $16.99 Algerian Sardines, which consisted of sardines from Morocco with a spice mixture. The man in front recommended them fried, and the portion was nice, and the flavor was excellent. The fish was fried perfectly, with the bones fried enough that the entirety of it could be eaten. This was delicious, and one of the highlights of the meal. As we loved these sardines, we eventually got a small order of the other option, the "Marinated Sardines" from Spain. These were a bit more expensive by weight, being $10.56 for 0.48 pounds, but by comparison, these were much flatter and larger. The half pound consisted of three large pieces, which were broken down and divided among the group. While I slightly preferred the spices from the Algerian version, I liked the texture of these more, as they were more meaty. I don't think you can go wrong with either, as both were excellent. There was also one pound of Mussels for $17.99, which was available in one of two cooking preparations, Moules Marinière or a version with tomato sauce, herbs, and feta. I went with the latter, and they were excellent, with all of the mussels being open. The feta added a unique, slightly salty touch, with the broth being delicious. They had brought us out some extra bread, and we made good use of it. If I were here alone, I might have this along with some sardines and leave very happy. We also got two whole fish, which were both ordered grilled and butterflied. First was the Dorado, or Orata, for $29.24 for 1.54 pounds. As is typical for this fish, it was delicate and light, but had plenty of flavor. The other was the American Red Snapper, which was a bit more expensive at $37.90 for 1.58 pounds. By comparison, this fish was a lot thicker and therefore, a bit more flavorful. We enjoyed both, with a slight preference going towards the cheaper fish for most outside of me and one other. Another highlight was the Scallops for $37.23 for 0.98 pounds, which came out to 14 large pieces. As recommended, we got these sautéed, with the scallops coming in a delicious garlicky juice on the bottom with plenty of other herbs. The scallops were tender while staying plump, though I slightly preferred the more caramelized tops at AbuQir, with these having a more uniform texture. The rest of the people liked what I couldn't eat, the $24.99 Octopus for around half a pound. The octopus came out pre-cut, which made splitting it very easy. I can't comment much on the flavor or saltiness as some other reviewers brought up, or else I'd be in the hospital right now post-anaphylaxis, but people liked it a lot. If you don't want to bother with the lines or crowds at the other fish spots, I would highly recommend going here. The fish is fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned just enough to highlight the natural flavors. I would go back.

The sardines were fried well, but just not as mind-blowing as I thought they'd be judging from reviews. My fav were the Tiger shrimps (sautéed) and the branzino (grilled). You could really taste the char, and they were cooked perfectly. We also got butter garlic linguine with scallops and clams. My husband loved the linguine (and the free bread) the most. The scallops were nice and plump but could have been seared more. The clams were tiny and I wouldn't get them again. The guy behind the fish counter was great. The server however was pretty slow. We waited 10 mins after choosing our fish for just tap water and eventually I just got up to ask the guy behind the counter for water. I also had to go up to the server myself to ask for to-go boxes and the check. And I got up to give the check to them, because they still hadn't taken it after my trip to the bathroom. Place is spacious enough for a family dinner, feels welcoming enough.
