We arrived in Portland after a very long day of travel and were in desperate need of a good meal! We got there right when they opened, walked in and ordered. I was struggling a bit with what to order and the person that was taking our order was more than happy to help. Make suggestions. I ended up ordering Spatzle with a Bavarian Wurst, it was delicious! Now I have eaten a lot of Spatzle in my life (I consider myself a connoisseur) and this one was good but not my favorite. The Spatzle was just a bit cold and slightly dry but again it was good I'm just being picky. The Wurst was delicious and I highly recommend! There's also a super nice park nearby and we were able to walk around after and work off some of the food that we had eaten while looking at some beautiful views.

I was looking for a German restaurant to take my brother in law to for their birthday. I reached out weeks in advance because it says to do so with parties of 8. I got a quick response from David who was very accommodating. It was slightly disheartening when we arrived at our reserved time they didn't have a table for us specifically. They said "sit anywhere" as they weren't busy but pretty much all of the tables (inside & out) were taken. We made it work for our party by moving tables around to accommodate. You place your order at the bar. We did a "family" style in which we ordered a number of options off the menu and enjoyed it together. Their fondue special was a good deal and we took plenty home in leftovers. The German potato salad was very mustardy (and I love mustard) but a little over the top. Not normally one to order Jägerschnitzel but it was very good (pork). The pretzel was slightly over done but tasty nonetheless. It was packed so service was as best as it could be. There were a couple of issues but they did their best. Overall this place is the "gem" I have seen in these reviews and with giving it a shot. We will be back with our doggies as it is dog friendly! Give it a try

Arrived in Portland and found this beautiful area just outside of downtown. Dog parks, bridges, brewery's, and lucky for us Urban German Wursthaus. We came in right around opening and of course started with some German beers. We ordered at the bar and I went with my favorite German class the Jaegerschnitzel which Crispy Breaded Pork or Chicken Cutlet (I did Pork of course) topped with a rich Mushroom Gravy, served over tender Spatzle Egg Noodles. We of course had to get an appetizer too and for that we went with the special they had that day which was Crispy Mozzarella Sticks with a Curry Tomato sauce. Just sounded too interesting to pass up. The Mozzarella Sticks came out pretty quickly. They had a nice beer batter, good cheese pull, and that curry tomato sauce was very good. Was a little nervous if it would work but for sure did. Wasn't overly strong but had that bit of curry bite that we enjoyed. Within 8 minutes my Jaegerschnitzel came out and it looked great and was huge. the Mushroom Gravy was nice and thick with a lot of mushrooms. I will say the Schnitzel was a little dry but having that gravy saved it. The Spatzle Egg Noodles were more Egg Noodles then Spatzle. Just didn't have the doughy chew I was expecting but still worked with that dish. The Urban German Wursthaus is for sure a place to come into for authentic German food and beer. If I live in Portland I would be here often because their was so much more for me to try.

This is the perfect spot to grab a drink while in St. John's! It is decorated with lots of cute German signs and pictures and has an excellent view of the St. John's bridge. They have a great selection of German beer and authentic German food. The bratwurst was really flavorful and served with tasty mustard and sauerkraut. I definitely want to try their version of a Leberkäse sandwich next time I'm in.

Really enjoy this spot on a sunny day or cold winter. Solid beers and the bites are great too. Sweet view from the deck of the bridge.

We tried the german bratwurst and Bavarian spicy sausages with fries and Sauerkraut!! Delicious! Good selection of German beers on tap 16 oz to 32 oz mugs! Service is good and helpful! Ambiance wonderful with bridge view! Kid friendly and pet friendly!!! They had a German mascot bunny roaming around!!! Good parking!

This place is close by St. John bridge so you will be able to see the bridge from the dining area. We got our lunch order inside and grab water with number to find a seat for us to use. They bring the food to us when the food is ready. The sauce for dipping fries is surprising because it's mixed curry and ketchup. It's a great place for a meal.

What's not to love about Urban German. The atmosphere is very German pub. it's fun to sit drinking a Rothaus Pils and look at all the pictures and advertisements the owner has brought from Germany. We bring my mother in law for lunch on the regular because she is full German and says Urban German is the only authentic German restaurant left in PDX area ...beside Edelweiss Sausage & Delicatessen which, is more of a deli. My mother in law is actually Heidi whose mustard is sold at Edelweiss. When at Urban German we ordered a JAGERSCHNITZEL and a Schnitzel sandwich. Heidi loves it and says it's authentic just like she would make it. The mushroom gravy is delicious and the spatzle is cooked perfectly. We also love that the chef makes his own sausage. The food and service is consistently on point.

We were craving German food on a date night and decided to check this place out. It was amazing! The inside is very charming with lots of German/Bavarian decor. Our waitress was awesome and went out of her way to make our evening special (she brought us a romantic candle when we told her it was date night and then she stuck candles in our dessert when she found out it was our anniversary). The food was so good! We started with the Poutine, for dinner I had Chicken Jaegerschnitzel, and my husband got the Duo Wurstplate (German Bratwurst and Bavarian Bierwurst) with pommes frites, then ended with the Applestrudel. It was all so great, we will certainly be back!

This spot makes me want to visit Germany again. We got the (very) large pretzel special and the chicken schnitzel. The portion were huge. You order at the bar, so the service is limited. But it feels like a little beer hall and the beers were good. We will be back!

Fantastic food, amazing beer, and unparalleled service. There is a breathtaking view of St. John's Bridge as well. My wife and I ordered a Pretzelwurst and a Sausage plate. There was a miscommunication when it came out but they made it right despite a busy rush going on. I will definitely be coming back, probably with friends! Megan helped us out!

I have been coming here after a Saturday morning hike in Forest Park. The food has always been spot on and the German beer selection is great. The one thing that keeps me coming back is the staff, so nice and always makes sure I have what a need.

I got a plate with pork shoulder and saurkraut. The plate was all fat. There were two small pieces of meat in it. Ugh.

They had a nice draft and bottle selection of German beer. The food was delicious. The pretzel was scrumptious with 3 dipping sauces that were all good. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, prepared breaded and pan fried like a Wienerschnitzel. It was cooked perfectly with the pork tender and thin. The red cabbage was great too. The warm German potato salad was not traditional. It tasted more like seasoned fried potatoes, but they were still good. My only suggestion would have been a little more gravy. My husband got the Maultaschen, which we had never had. It was a pasta filled with sautéed leeks & cheese, topped with asparagus, & mushrooms in white wine sauce...delicious. Everything was great!!!

Not crowded, with attentive but chill service. We had a delicious burger (hubby) with a fabulous acid-forward set of toppings; a delicious lentil-and-every-German-meat soup (me, because I am an Official Soup Nerd); a delicious pretzel with dips (us). Chocolate pot de creme for dessert--so rich. It was Strong Bier month, which was really fun. Can't wait to go back.

We stumbled upon…read morethe place by accident - I might have thought it was a coffee or dessert shop from the name, but that's on me. It's a cozy, comfortable space with a Swiss flag and one of those giant horns like in the Ricola ads. I ate with three people and we split up to tackle a good sampling of the menu. We had the Weinerschnitzel (chicken) and Jägerschnitzel (pork). The meal was well-paced. The salad dressing was unique but familiar, they serve it with hot, crusty bread and on the salad (cabbage and house) I could have drank the dressing. I shouldn't, but could have. The schnitzels were fantastic - both the brown butter and the brown gravy. Sides: Spätzle (the garlicky noodles) and the hash brown thing with the bacon. You guys, we ate EVERYTHING. We've never seen our 10 year old eat so much good food. (To be fair, the boy and I had only eaten Chex Mix that day while my wife was at the spa...but I digress.) We felt well taken care of. This was my first time visiting as an out-of-towner and I felt as welcome as visiting family for dinner. We finished the meal with the Lilikoi Cheesecake. My kid surprised me by saying "That's passionfruit!" (which he learned from the Kona Ice truck). Light and decadent. Great meal!

We ordered a rosti for an appetizer which doesn't disappoint, just like how I remember from Zurich. We both ordered dishes with spaetzle, schnitzel and goulash. I opt for a salad with the famous Martin's dressing while my wife gets a French onion soup she claims is the best she's ever had and that's saying something, because we've eaten 3 Michelin Star French onion soup so I try it and now I'm a believer. The chicken broth is so tasty, the onions and cheese are wonderful. It's the simple things really that can make one happy. After conversation and lots of eating, we soon find we've devoured our plates. It's been awhile since I had really good spaetzle so this was a treat. Service was attentive at every step. The dining experience like high end but in a more casual setting. Would go here again. Recommend reservations since seating is limited.
