This place is a saloon themed restaurant. Servings mostly burgers and sandwiches, it's a nice casual place to go for lunch or dinner. The people there were some of the friendliest I had ever met. The drinks had healthy pours and the food was decent. The atmosphere was very cute and I loved the booths had inspirational quotes on them. Arrived around 1:30 for lunch and seated immediately. There were around five other groups eating lunch. We were served water without asking which is very nice. Looked over the menu I decided on a Cuban sandwich which was delicious. So the flavors melding together. Was only able to eat half a sandwich nice size. Served with tater tots which were crunchy. My husband order the fish and chips. He also enjoyed his meal as well. Food was served quickly and with a smile. The decor was warm and inviting. read more

The staff was so polite and always available. We did have to "ding" the bell to let them know someone was waiting to be seated. Once seated we were treated like special guests. The food was delicious!! I had a cheese burger and got to choose how it was cooked (Medium with grilled onions). The atmosphere was so western, I could just imagine being in the wild west! Lots of history in the pictures on the wall. Fun conversations with the bartender. I was there over the 4th of July weekend and had heard great things about this restaurant. Best in the black hills is what they claimed. Imagine my disappointment when the following things took place. - I ordered a ribeye and it was the toughest ribeye that I had ever had with lots of gristle in the meat. - I ordered a loaded baked potato which consisted of putting cheese in it (no butter or sour cream) but it didn't matter anyway because baked potato was cold, I don't mean not hot, it was COLD. I sent it back as they basically said sorry there is nothing that we can do. I turned to someone who had gotten the same potato, and it was also cold. Don't worry, they still tried to upcharge me for the loaded part on my bill. -We had two others order the sirloin and one was literally half the size as the other and severely over cooked -I ordered a tap beer and it came to me 90% foam and I was told to just wait until it settled. -The waiter did nothing to help out with anyone's complaints, he literally ignored what people said to him and just kept doing whatever he was doing. -It was like the whole crew was the "B" crew for the night. I do not see why I would ever go there again or why you should waste your money for subpar service and food. read more

When we arrived, we did not notice the sign that they were full with reservation only after a long day of traveling . We walked in to see if we could be seated and they were so rude stating it was on the sign when we walked in and we asked if they had any more room possibly, and they told us with our attitude to get out. I would not recommend anyone to ever go here. As I walked out they literally pulled the door shut out of my hand. My husband and I both got the coffee rubbed ribeye, it was delicious. My son got the pig belly Mac and cheese. (Looked great) We called and made reservations and got right in. The owner gave us the historical information about the town. The atmosphere was nice and the service was great! The staff was dressed in period appropriate clothing for a gold mining town. We went to this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday and were mainly attracted to the establishment because of it's old-west vibe. When we walked in, we noticed the restaurant was not very busy, but we sat at the front door for a good five minutes before eventually having to flag down an employee to be seated. After being seated, there was some discussion and frankly, consternation between the employees right in front of us about who would be waiting on us. Our waitperson ended up being very nice and the food was decent but while were eating, one of the waitstaff accidentally knocked over some cups onto the floor near our table startling our son. When my son turned to look, the waitperson angrily snarked at him "what are you looking at." At this point we were only interested in finishing our meal, paying, leaving. This could have been a much better experience if we had some more considerate customer service. read more

Quiet little place right on Main Street in Lead. Walking in you know it's an OLD building. The lady bartender had a fabulous attitude and figuring out we were NOT locals, she made us feel very welcomed. I ordered the Buffalo Snot beer.... Actually very good. We then ordered their version of a Cuban sandwich, which was very tasty. Outstanding actually. The fries were lacking crispness..... the Owner was floating around and we had a discussion about that. We came here to eat Friday afternoon, before going to the shops on Main Street. And while our food was delicious, I couldn't help but overhear the owner speaking to one of his employees terribly. This poor girl had a family emergency regarding her child, which lead her to a no-call no show, and while I usually agree that is highly unprofessional. The owner demanded that she go apologize to her manager. That woman didn't need to apologize for taking care of her family, her priorities were in the right place and that owner is out of his mind to think that was acceptable. A true power trip. And the way the owner showed no sympathy to the situation and continued to tell this poor girl off was the most disrespectful thing I have ever witnessed while simply out to eat. You could tell she just wanted to get out of there. We won't be returning for that reason alone! read more

The Stampmill Restaurant is in downtown Lead among other historic buildings. The restaurant & inn is in a gorgeous stone and brick building and also has a nice outdoor dining space. We had breakfast here as part of our stay at the inn but would dine here regardless! The service was wonderful and the friendliness was a great start to our day. They have a good selection of breakfast entrees that would please any appetite. The prices are very reasonable as well. We look forward to coming back! read more

With its location next to our hotel, Town Hall Inn, and appearing to be the only opened eating establishment within walking distance, we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. Upon entering, no one greeted us or offered to seat us so after waiting at the front door an awkwardly amount of time, another customer told us to seat ourselves as they had to. It was not hard to find a table to seat ourselves. Fifteen minutes passed, there was again no greeting, waters, or even a menu offered to us. We were totally ignored. We noticed other tables just sitting and waiting for service. We eventually got up and left. One of the worst dining experiences ever. Lead is totally a food dessert. We ended up going to the grocery store in town for dinner. Way to go Lead, will never go back. read more

They charge extra for lettuce, tomatoes & onion that should come with a burger. .50 cents for mayo. $14.50 for a mushroom Swiss burger with no lettuce tomato and onion. Stopped in Lead for lunch. Really friendly service in a historic, pretty spot. The menu is limited, but has sandwiches and burgers at lunch. We opted for their spinach dip appetizer that comes with incredible homemade tortilla chips that came out hot and fresh. I had the blackened chicken salad special as well. We had a great dinner, with wonderful service, in a beautiful historic building at a very reasonable price! We started with pints of brown ale and red ale. Only $3 per pint during happy hour. We weren't sure whether to get sandwiches or dinner entrées so we decided to share one of each. For the sandwiches, you can start with either a beef hamburger, grilled chicken, or veggie burger and then add your toppings. We decided to have a grilled chicken sandwich with the Stampmill Special which was a blue cheese sauce with green olives and some Pimiento. We had onion rings on the side. For the dinner entrée, we selected the rosemary Pork-chops. There were two thin panseared and extremely flavorful chops. On the side we had fried wild rice. Being from Minnesota, we like wild rice, but have never had fried wild rice. I will try to re-create it on my own. We were too full for dessert, but I'm sure they would've been great too. We were certainly pleased with the bill at the end. This was our first time in the Black Hills in 20 years. Next time we will be sure to eat here again. read more
