So even though I am not a beer drinker, I don't mind at all when friends want to go here. Also not the type of bar that pressures you to drink alcohol either. Not in my.neighborhood, so.i don't give a rats ass if I get seated immediately. Well put together, decent seats, decor, outdoor patio w/ heaters, large enough screens that do not dominate visually. Their beers, we had 3 Ales and a lager. All excellent. I don't doubt the brett., saison, sour, or Berlinerweisse are fine too, I just left enough for everyone else to enjoy. I don't do those brews. Also, the kitchen is spare, but the sandwiches ROCK! Presented on individual paper lined trays wrapped nicely w/ more paper. Damn fine eats for this caliber venue, reasonably priced. These guys are working hard and doing swell down here east of the international district. They have taken over a cool old structure off 23rd and Jackson. There's a patio out front, well concealed by bamboo and light wood bench structures. Feels very private for an open air patio. Room for about ten. Inside, there's a funky, awkward, fun little foyer with about ten stools, and around the dogleg corner is a bar and register. They have 12 taps, and virtually always pour all house beers as far as I know. There are two people here who do everything, from order hops to washing kegs to sealing gaskets to designing recipes to brewing beers to wiping tables to pouring beers and cashing you out. You gotta respect the commitment. And they're stoked to be here, too, and doing nice stuff. They make lagers as well as ales, which is already a cool step forward in my book. They have a decent kolsch and schwarzbier to complement their IPAs, stouts, porters, and whatnot. Most of them are very well made. I couldn't really get with the ginger beer or the wheated red, but we split seven other beers that ranged from pretty rad to nearly amazing. The CDA and imperial ipa were both on the high end for sure, and the Azacca Stress Test (single hop session ipa) was also fantastic. It's rare to find people doing so many different things in support of long-term goals, and doing them all so well. They're serving good beers in a nice setting and doing it right on the edge of downtown, practically. There's a lot of potential here, and I can't wait to try a bunch more of their beers. read more

Standard Brewing is located on the corner of 25th and Jackson, you almost want to say "23rd and Jackson" (queue "Posse on Broadway" by Sir Mix-A-lot), but it's just a tad bit east of that corner. You might actually miss it, since it's one of the smaller, yet, substantial Seattle area Breweries. We've been here a few times, and it was only on my radar since it was listed as one of the top 13 Oustanding Seattle Breweries according to Eater.com (http://seattle.eater.com/maps/best-seattle-breweries). And outstanding it is! They offer all types of beers and so you'll be able to find something to suit just about everyone's taste palate. Most recently, we had the Kalakalaka IIPA, West Coast IPA, and Schwarzkölsch. The IPA's have the hoppiness you would expect from an IPA, and the Schwarzkölsch, although it looks dark, it is really a light, easy drinking beer. The space is small, and they do allow dogs and kids (well-behaved). There's also a large TV for games days. They don't serve food, but there are enough places nearby to get some really good beer eats (there's a spot for really good finger-licking fried chicken, and a couple of blocks away you can also get a poke bowl). read more

Great beer. Great people. If you need more than that, you're weird. This is our local spot and we stop by multiple times a week. As for the negative comments here, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is ridiculous to hurt this place's reputation because the atmosphere they work hard to create doesn't meet each individual's demands and expectations. I love that they don't allow dogs here, I love my K9 don't get me wrong, but I'm of the school of thought that dogs can hangout alone for a bit at home while I enjoy some hops. Also, if paying for a sampler seems too onerous, just go buy a 12-pack of piss beer somewhere else. Net net - love this place. Great beer and amazing people. Oh wow! Standard Brewing is a really good brewery! They make exciting, interesting and unique beers. I had a sample of their ginger beer which was light and crisp. Delicious! I then ordered a pint of the Wheated Red Ale. Oh my! That flavor will raise the hairs right off your chest! The place is very small and a lot of people are there but there always seems some nook where you can sit or stand in without getting in the way. I am excited to see what other beers will be coming on the horizon for this place! read more

A great neighborhood stop but worth going out of your way to go. I have enjoyed almost all the beers, though I am not a huge beer person. Lots of variety. They also have a full bar (liquor + wine) plus light bites (tacos and sandwiches). They have indoor seating and some outdoor + covered seating and outdoor picnic benches with umbrellas. It's disappointing to know you're in the neighborhood. We literally were sitting. Starting at the menu. What's your deal. If you own this then you would not treat a paying customer this way. You'll be my first and only visit. Sorry I ever did. What a terrible person you are sir. Additional edit: I would love the explanation of what you found to be aggressive or intimidating. Sharing a table for a few minutes in your packed bar is not a crime. And it's what everyone else was also doing that day. It's what we did on the patio. Asking you when your friends were arriving because you said the seats were saved is hardly aggressive. We wanted to know how long we could rest and assured you that as soon as they arrived, we'd leave. That was when you started telling us to leave. Again, feel free to share that intimidating behavior you saw. You started intimidating me physically. You're really tall. I'd guess 6'. I'm 5'2" and female. When you stand up and raise your voice to me, that's pretty aggressive. And guess what, we paid (still) and left after a couple confused questions on what was going on while you continued to get louder and more red in the face. I'm pretty sure I've got a handle on what "aggressive" is when going to a bar. My friends and I were nowhere on that spectrum. It's nice you wanted to continue making me out to be the problem by responding to this post in the way that you did. I'll be spending my money at business who are much more friendly and inclusive of their patrons. read more

A neighborhood brew house with a nice intimate feel. Seating both inside and out with the patio area nicely screened from the busy street. In addition to the house brews they have a liquor license for those that wish something other then beer. A small side kitchen offers grilled sandwiches for the hungry. Sampled a pair of sandwiches, one grilled Gruyere cheese and one shaved pork, both of which came with pickles and a bag of chips. Both were excellent and enough for 3 of us to enjoy along with the nice selection of beers that were on tap that day. 21+, no pets. read more

I was in town for a conference and decided to take the plunge to Lyft to Seattle from Bellevue. I'm glad I did! I did some research beforehand so I knew what I was getting myself into. The beer: I had the typical West coast IPA and it was exactly what it sounds like- tropical flavors, pretty yum. Atmosphere: Lovely! Beautiful space with nicely constructed countertop and tables handmade of wood. I always love a candlelit space. Service: Good. I was well taken care of but not bothered which I appreciate. The bartender lead me to some great beer spots since I was out of town. Thanks! Overall, a great experience. It's refreshing to come somewhere "cool" after being in Boise the last year. read more

Closer to a 4.5. The place itself is okay decor-wise, but the beer was so good. West Coast IPA especially was excellent, and really quenched my thirst, the way an ice cold water on a hot summer's day would also do so, but also better. Also got a tuna melt and that was great. Not sure what this lady below talking about spicy food is talking about. Have you ever been to a restaurant where they are like "OK this dish is X percent spicy." ? Give me a break. Plenty of seating when I went and great service from the bartender. These girls sitting at the bar were talking about flossing, a unique community vibe as well, adding to the local flair of the area. I've been in search of a IPA that is similar to King St IPA (you folks from Alaska know what I'm talking about)! I think I've found it in Standards West Coast IPA. So crisp, smooth, and hoppy. I like the cozy neighborhood brewpub vibe. It is a bar/restaurant/pub in one so, there is a bit going on. Patience is key when ordering on a busy night but, I appreciate the variety in beers. I tried their Guava sour which was also pretty tasty. I will definitely be back. read more

Good beer, pleasant patio, not dog friendly. With limited options in the CD to grab a beer in a comfortable setting Standard could have knocked it out of the park by welcoming pups on to their patio. Unfortunately that's not the case so Chuck's it is. And to clarify my review I am aware that the health department regulations dictate no animals where food is prepared. My qualm is the patio that is not dog friendly. After a run a cold beer on a patio is nice. Woodshop across the street accommodates and their bbq is delicious. Thanks for the snarky reply Justin. Really liked this brewery. The beers on tap were German influenced. I had the wheated red and the schwarz kolsch which was a dark kolsch. It is a small brewery with a few seats inside and covered seating outside. Worth a stop by to try some different beers. read more

Staff was nice. Welcoming ambiance. Cocktails were great. They make their own ginger beer so the mules are great. I had the veggie taco (I'm iffy about mushrooms but super good) and the fat hen? taco (wonderful flavors. So two tacos, chips and salsa (fresh warm chips and a gentle bite to the roha salsa), and three cocktails and my tab was just over $30. Definitely recommend. I made the mistake of overlooking Standard Brewing for far too long. It wasn't especially walkable from my place on Capitol Hill, it wasn't near any other breweries, there seemed to be too many IPAs on tap. A couple of months ago, this brewery shot back on my radar after I saw an article about how they now had a full bar and kitchen as well. Oh, and in the process, their tap list got much less IPA-heavy. All of a sudden, I was sold! My SO and I traipsed in on a Saturday afternoon. It felt very British pub-like, with wood everywhere, a gorgeous, long bar, and some leisurely revelers watching sports games. We grabbed two seats at the bar...and stayed there for the next several hours. Between the two of us, we tried most of their tap list, and I can honestly say I did not have a single disappointing beer. The European styles were appropriately malty and especially on point, which is very welcome in hop-dominated Seattle. The Vienna lager was probably my favorite, but the excellent, excellent sour on tap came a close second. Come for the beer, but stay for the food! The special on the day of our visit happened to be an Egyptian preparation of a pita sandwich, and god was it delicious. It was also a totally massive amount of food, so you will definitely not leave hungry. Since Standard now has a full bar as well, your beer-hating friends can join you on this adventure! Cocktails and wine are available, and prices are quite reasonable. As a bonus (or I guess not, if you have children...in that case, my apologies), this is a rare, kid-free spot in the CD. read more

I really like the diversity and quality of the beer list here, and their little patio. I'm not a regular, but I've regularly touted their name to others as a place worth checking out. Recently they expanded and built a proper hipster bar space and changed their name to Standard Public House - a sign of success! And that's good for them, and hopefully us beer drinkers. Every time I've come I've sat down and had 3-4 5oz tasters to see what they're up to lately before ordering a pint of my fav. But this review is sadly also a tale of terrible customer service/policy. As I set down my shopping bag with the clank of 2 growlers waiting to be filled, which would be $35-40, and quickly tried to take in the new beer list, I asked if I could get a quick taste to compare two of their IPA's to pick one of the growlers. Paraphrased as from memory: Barman: "We don't do that, we only have 5oz tastes for $2" Me: "I'm in a hurry and don't want 10oz of beer, just a taste to pick one for these growlers." Barman: "Sorry, that's our policy." Me: "Really, for 2 growlers, no quick taste?" Barman holds up 5oz glass to show me the option. And so I left, without filling either growler, really disappointed, and headed to another local brewery where, as soon as I set down the growlers, the bartender said, "I hope you're going to ask me for a taste test before you fill those!" Yes! That's the right response. I did, and thus is the tale of how Standard Brewing lost my business that day, and sure, made me salty. It was honestly very disappointing. I wasn't in their faking, saying, "GIVE ME FREE BEER." I'm saying that before buying 128oz of beer, 3 1oz tastes would've been the prudent choice and a normal, good customer experience. read more

Good beer. Good tacos. But Standard is NOT a neighborhood/community brewery. Such a shame. Children are not allowed, so local parents need to look outside their own neighborhood to enjoy a drink at a brewery that will welcome the whole family. Again, I love the beer and tacos, and wish the owner/establishment only the best - it's fantastic to have a brewery in the neighborhood. I'll up the rating to 4 stars. I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years and loved walking just a couple blocks from home to the brewery a few times per month. Now that I have a newborn, I just can't go anymore, which is a shame. I respect the decision the business has made, I just don't agree with it; but I do recognize that I'm biased and loaded with disappointment. Standard is a great little brewery that does it right in the CD. Frankly there's little that's "standard" about Standard; they're always experimenting with new and different beers. You can always get some kind of IPA, sure, but there is always a huge variety of beers on tap to try. And it's like the weather in Seattle, if you don't like it, just wait and things will change. My recent favorites have included his Baltic Porter, dry stout, double IPA, and some of the sours. Standard Brewing: great beer, never boring. I also like the new no kids/dogs policy. Although most people are pretty cool with their kids, or their dogs, it doesn't take that many kids/dogs mis-behaving to really ruin the vibe (see afternoons at Chuck's CD). As a parent of kids and owner of dogs, I love having a chance to just get away. And I love that breweries have different policies so we can all find a place where we're happy. read more

We used to live a few blocks from Standard. We moved, and I now realize how much I took that for granted, and I miss it. Also dig the basic selection of single malts, as seems clear they curated the choices to work well with the beer (though, pricing could be better)... The staff is generally friendly, but the crowd is what you'd expect from a neighborhood that is a shell of its former self. It's not my vibe, patrons don't have the friendly, communal sensibility that once existed in these parts...
