We decided to stop in here for brunch (with our two year old and 5 friends) and we were seated immediately, drinks within 5 minutes and order taken soon after. I ordered the breakfast pizza- soggy crust, but I'll allow it, because it was super delicious. My husband'a meal, however, stole the show. Review is in two parts: 1) when it's not as busy it's a cool, casual hangout spot. Food is kitschy with drinks that throw back to the 90s styles.. plus boozy popsicles.. what's not to love. Their cheesesteak is great and so are their tater tots. Service when it's not super busy is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Now.. come here on a Saturday night and it is packed inside and out. You'll be waiting quite some time for a drink. I feel like having 1-2 more beer can/bottle only stations would help decompress the main bars for liquor and whatnot. I'm not in college anymore so I definitely felt a little old, but also some nostalgia as I probably would have loved it there several years ago. So if you're younger, check it out on a weekend night. Standard Hall is a mess on the weekends. It's so crowded and loud and you're very lucky if you find a table, let alone somewhere to stand. That being said, my experience here last weekend was actually great. We found a table pretty quickly, and the servers were helpful in pulling together more chairs and setting it quickly. I was also impressed with our service: our waitress checked on us frequently despite, I'm sure, having tons of tables and the restaurant being packed. When ordering dinner here, I'm always drawn to the appetizers. I've had the Mac and cheese (which I don't think is salty enough) before, but this time I tried the buffalo chicken dip. It was so bubbly and warm when it came out, and was served with delicious chips. Overall, I was pleased with my dining experience. Standard's prices are comparable to other restaurant/bars in the Short North. I spent about $30 on my dinner and three drinks. I'll be back, whether I like it or not, because this is definitely a hot, young spot in Columbus! read more

Thank You Standard Hall for taking the reigns from the Pint House. This place is huge with both an inside & outside area. The DJ was amazing playing some of the best songs to get down to. The service was good for a packed Friday night. The drinks were very good as well. I hear there are alcohol Popsicles as well, I will definitely try one of those next time. I went in not expecting much but actually really liked this restaurant/bar! Nestled in the beginning of the Short North, this place is a great spot to grab drinks and/or pizza with friends, especially when everything else closes early on Sunday nights. It seems to always be bustlin', so we sat off to the side to have a better conversation. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken pizza without slaw, which was DELICIOUS. Stopped here for brunch on a cold, snowy Saturday while visiting. We had a group of 5 and got in right away. We started our brunch off with none other than a Bloody Mary. They have a regular one, or for a few dollars more, they have the Bloody Mary bar- go with that!! It's not just some celery, bacon, cheese, and extra seasoning- it's a full meal, complete with onion rings, jalapeño poppers, cheese curds, lil smokies (and all of the typical olives & stuff). Seriously, I don't think I needed an entree after. But, I didn't know that when I ordered my biscuits & gravy entree. It was good. The other food I sampled from my table mates was good too! Service was good, which seems to always be the downfall when brunching in Columbus, so that was a nice change of pace! read more

I've been to standard hall for dinner/drinks and for brunch now and overall it was good. The space more than anything is really awesome - big, with lots of small tables and what looks like a nice outdoor space (it was cold outside when I went, so the big garage door was closed though). Seating is first come first serve, which was fine for brunch, but a pain in the butt around 8pm. I imagine that during any busy times a group of more than 3-4 would have a hard time finding a space. Also - at night they get super super crowded and it is tight standing room only. So go early if that isn't your thing. The food is good but overall really heavy. Like everything is fried or gravy-ed or cheesed. Not a bad thing, but know what you're getting into. The tots dipped in their housemade ranch are delicious. Their Nashville hot chicken is good - crispy coating and an okay level of spicy (definitely won't compete with HCT of course, but a good choice from the menu). Where I think Standard Hall shines is in their drinks. They have a lot of great craft beers on tap and in bottles/cans and their cocktail menu shines. Fun, innovative drinks (their boozy popsicles are really fun and will be a perfect treat in hot summer) that are yes, a little over the top. For brunch they have their build-your-own bloody mary bar and its definitely an experience. The servers and bartenders were great walking you through the process and letting taste test things as you build your drink. Service is great too - everyone is friendly and fun. read more

Oozing with charm and spunk, this spot in the buzzing Short North impressed me. Extraordinary drinks, comforting food and good service. Stopped by for brunch on Sunday. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken and biscuit "big nasty" style, which means they smother it in gravy. It was dynamite - super warm and flaky buttery bun with spicy, tender chicken all drowned in the sausage gravy. I ordered the iced cream coffee which I did not know had alcohol in it but it made it even better - super creamy and strong flavored. The ambiance is what made this 5 stars in my book. The interior is gorgeous and spacious, with covered patio and outdoor seating when it's warm. It's a very cozy and hip spot with tons of young folks - not too loud. It's a bit pricey but it's worth the quality of ingredients. Home run! read more

Bloody Mary bar is legit- pick your rim (savory, spicy, salty), pick your mix (traditional, spicy, tomatillo) and add all of the fixings... really is a meal in a glass! What else is there left to say, really? I am not going to bore you with food takes. Some people like the taste of certain foods. Others do not. I have never been a mustard or ketchup person. I simply do not eat them. It's like, I just never did as a kid. Remember when the 20-piece nugget at McDonald's was like a big deal? I would love to read the boxscores of baseball games in the USA Today and take down a 20-piece nugget. Sitting at your grandma's house. Eating nuggets. Childhood, baby. I do like that their fries come in a paper cup with french fries as like the wallpaper of the cup. This is definitely a spot you'll go to and your buddies will be like, "Anyone want to get a bite to eat? I haven't eaten yet." I always pass and tell the server or bartender, "I'll have a Miller Lite. Yes, I want to keep that open. You give it right back? Cool." I hate when people who obviously have no interest in eating say, "I'll take a look at the menu and maybe in a bit." What's the percentage of people who follow through on ordering food in that most-precarious situation? Like I am guessing 2 percent TOPS. I do appreciate the service here. There is no attitude from servers. They know why you're there and they're trying to help out. It can be slow at times at the bar but whatever, you can wait. Your phone has these three apps on them (Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter) that you can scroll through. And hey, maybe Eric or Brie has finally texted you back. Chances are? Who's to say but doubtful. There are always pretty much the same people at Standard. Guy in all black with a leather coat, that one tall dude you see everywhere, girls who DEFINITELY do the Bloody Mary Bar at brunch at least 31 times a year. They're all there! The people generally suck and you're like, "Oh God, I don't wanna go to Standard" but you end up going and you have a good time. One negative? People always look incredibly sad at Standard. I do not. I'm usually in a good mood. My cell battery is well above 100 percent and I'm on an entertaining group chat. But sad people go to Standard. And it's freakin' awesome and I can't wait to likely go there this Friday and Saturday night. My entire wedding party and a good amount of guests gathered here the night before my wedding and had a blast! The picnic tables are and layout of the place is perfect for big groups. The food is also not your typical bar food. Everything we ate was delicious. The pretzels were my favorite. They come with different sauces that are a good mix of savory and sweet. At the end of the night people had moved all over the place and I was sure our waitress was going to have trouble getting our checks right. Standard Hall gets 4 stars for atmosphere and 2 stars for food (maybe even 1 star). The food was, in a word, blah. There's a loose "fair food" theme which sounds kind of cool but everything was just sort of bland and sloppy. I'd rather eat at Five Guys... that's not meant to be a slam on Five Guys at all, just... wow, there's really no reason to get food here. Come for drinks and fun, though! The large outdoor space has kind of an epic house party vibe. Great spot in summer for people watching and fashion judging. Skip dinner and you'll be much happier! Came here for the soft opening a few months back. The owners went around the country exploring different cities to find what was missing in Columbus, and a large outdoor space is what they found. They could've saved a lot of money and just asked me that. I would've told them. If you've ever been to Neons in Cincinnati, that's the type of place Columbus needs more of, and now with the standard and pins, we have at least two such joints. Currently neither of those two have fully fledged outdoor games on par with similar venues in other cities. I guess we'll wait and see. The service was on point that night though, which is great for a soft opening. Several bartenders took great care of me, one corrected a mistake someone else made and gave me a free drink on the house for the trouble. Ray Ray's was on site serving food outside. Not clear to me if there will ever be a kitchen menu. The space, formerly home to the defunct and famous Little Brothers, has been completely revamped and looks really good. They tore out some of the old structure and opened the space up more, added a second bar, and more. I tried to go back over weekend night and it was way too crowded to visit. Another fine establishment by Chris Corso. Love this place. The food menu offerings are distinctively different from the two other venues, Pint House and Forno. Unique concept of southern comfort food options such as ribs on Sundays, southern fried chicken with pretty satisfying spicy flavors snd the all new brunch menu which started I believe 2nd week of January. I have pretty much tried drinks and food at the Standard Hall, at pretty much all various times of the day/week, early and late. Service is always solid, friendly, attentive, and these guys behind the bar know their mixed drinks well. Just like Pint House, the front and back bars area and dining booth seatings are perfect for sports games, big socials, happy hours, and nightly shenanigans! When it's nice out, the huge back patio is always fun and lively. read more

I have been coming to standard for the past year, year and a half. I have met many staff and bartenders there that make the experience great. However, just the other night, Saturday night, I met the probably worst/meanest bartender that showed nothing but disrespect and ill intention. Her name is Jessi. I went up to get a drink with some buddies I haven't seen in a while. Bought three drinks, no one around was waiting for drinks behind us, and got caught up in a little conversation. I happen to laugh at a joke accidentally hitting the side of the outside bus. This is when Jessi decides to throw ice at me saying "hey you knocked my stuff over. Take your card and get the f*** out". I tried apologizing at first, but it seemed like her anger already got to her. It's okay to show emotion, but as soon as you show towards paying customers, that's a problem. With this disrespect, I'm just not coming back to standard. I got kicked out shortly after and had to pour out a few drinks because a bartender wanted to impart her bad day on me and my buddies. Don't go to this place if you don't want to deal with nasty bartenders like Jessi. read more

The food is fine, service is a bit slow. Mixed drinks are not very good. The real reason for this review is because of how they charged us for our meal. We ate dinner at Standard Hall on May 25th and paid with a debit card. The card was not actually charged until over a month later! Why would it not have been charged immediately or within 24 hours?? Your guess is as good as mine! This caused a bit of a panic on our part because we didn't realize that the card had not been charged originally, so we thought that our account info had been stolen. We had to call the bank and they offered to dispute the charges because it had been so long. The bank ended up letting us know weeks later that the Standard has up to a year to charge your account?!?!? Kind of sketchy. read more

It's a cavernous place, but the staff at the bar were very friendly and attentive. I ordered things that only young people should -- like wine on tap and a huge soft pretzel. WOW what a space! The outdoor patio, indoor heated patio, and huge-ass bar in this place are killer. Came here for dinner around 7pm on a Friday night and since there is so much space it was easy to find a seat. Decent draft list. A few cocktails to choose from. They have boozy popsicles here that sound really fun, but it was a bit too cold for that. My friends had the tacos, and they both said they were really good. I was envious. I had the HOT Nashville chicken sandwich, and lemme tell you... they were not kidding about the heat. The choice was between mild or hot, so in a perfect world my heat preference would be somewhere in the middle. The chicken was really good though, I just needed to get a side of ranch to help cool it down. The slaw on the sammy was kind of meh and didn't really add anything to the sandwich except some crunch. But oh, that texas toast bread! It was amazing. A big sandwich and a good deal. The menu is classic American fare, so nothing completely wowed me, but lots of solid options and something for everyone. To me this felt like a better version of Pint House, which makes sense because it has the same owner. We walked in on Thursday night for a couple drinks and were not surprised to see the bar and tables all packed. The host whispered to us that the back bar was opening right then, and we walked past the crowd and sat down at an empty bar all to ourselves in the back. Unsurprisingly, the back bar feels much like Pint House's back bar, large and U-shaped and a lot more spacious than the front bar. Three different bartenders waited on us, and all were as friendly as could be, especially since (or perhaps because) we seemed by far like the oldest people in the place being in our mid thirties. We didn't go on the covered patio because it was about to storm, but it looked super nice out there. The beer list was pretty good. There was a fairly extensive draft selection with both local and out of market craft beers. There were several bottled and canned beers, and they had some fun sounding cocktails. As a craft beer drinker, I liked that a good beer cost the same as a Bud Light. All the prices were pretty fair. We didn't eat any food, but the menu sounded like pretty good bar food. Hot chicken was the featured thing on the menu, and I'm a sucker for hot chicken. Honestly, my only knock on the place was how my beer was served. Unless you're having a Milwaukee's Best or something, beer should not be served in a frosty mug. It's a very strange experience to drink a saison in a frosty mug, and it impacts the taste of the beer. Overall, though, this is a fun new bar that's worth a try. I wouldn't want to be there on a crowded Friday or Saturday night, but it would be a great place for day drinks or for mid-week drinks. read more
