I was referred to Bob Stankovic 22 years ago, and I've never looked elsewhere because the work was so good, and his location is convenient for me. I've taken numerous items to him, mostly suits or skirts or blazers that needed to be taken in. Sometimes hemming an item. Generally I trust his judgement, and I've never been sorry. I think he does fabulous work, and he's voluntarily done extra little touches. Since the only other tailors I have experience with are in house (Neiman Marcus, Brooks Brothers), I'm not familiar with cost, but I'd still go to him. read more

Nope, just people who had swung by to hang out and catch up with him. They assuredly told me I was going to "The Man" when it comes to men's tailoring and they were right. Well, like Jessy B., I, too, was disappointed and had made the mistake of bringing in several pairs of suit pants and jeans to have hemmed (since I am slightly obsessive-compulsive and caught a crazy hemming wind). I warned Bob that although my gams might LOOK perfect, the right is definitely longer than the left. He said *no problem*, and proceeded to chalk me up. Unfortunately for silly me, who brought in 7 pairs of pants to a brand-new tailor, I am now the proud owner of multiple half high-waters/half floor-skimming trousers. But, I'll give him props on customer service and the fact that he's an old school tailor, which is cool in my book. read more

Help! Bob came highly recommended and I really enjoyed meeting him. However, I desperately need to pick up my daughter's jazz performance costume (for tomorrow) and it appears that his shop is closed for an extended time. I'm not concerned about the quality of the alterations - I'm sure they'll be great. But, it will be a moot point to get the costume and have missed the performance tomorrow. Well, I'm sorry to say Bob was a disappointment. I always start a new tailor with a hem. That way, if they are not good, its not so disastrous. I brought Bob pants to hem. I asked him to simply move the existing hem up in order to maintain that rough up hem look that came with the pants. He said it was no problem, he does it all the time. When I returned for the pants, he hadn't done what I asked and created a new hem. When I asked him about it, he said that I didn't need the existing hem lifted and that it wasn't noticeable. But I obviously noticed it! He then proceeded to charge me $20 for them hem, pretty steep by any standards. I wouldn't go back to a tailor who didn't do what he said he would. Too bad - I like supporting local businesses but Bob is a no go. read more

nice guy- old school tailor....his prices seem fair, but wish it could have been a better experience. he tailored a wedding suit, and i put on the pants the morning of the wedding....about 2" too short....good times. Had a suit jacket and pants altered. It was ready right when he promised and the suit fit perfectly. He is one of the nicest guys around and my family has been going to him for years. I had a great conversation with him lqast time I was there about the importance of finding a job that make you happy which I really enjoyed. He's okay--if you don't mind having stuff redone like 9 million times. He's charming, but that is sort of where it stops. I never feel like a priority. For three separate jobs I've had to take stuff back. He kind of ruins things. If I were you, I'd run away. Yeah, I just tried to lower pants that he hemmed incorrectly and he wrecked 130.00 jeans. Wrecked them. Plus he's not a native English speaker and doesn't practice good customer service so there is like no way I'd ever recover the funds. Run away from him. read more

Bob took in the sides, shortened the sleeves, and shortened the length of a sportcoat for me and did it quite well. When I was getting measured for it, I wanted it slimmer than his own recommendation, and he used my guidelines instead of his own. A lot of old tailors just ignore your own suggestions. A few months later, I had a suit done here. He did a similarly good job but it was delayed for over a week. Luckily I had brought the suit in 3 weeks before my interview. Bad service, bad attitude, just plain bad experience. He promised, repeatedly, he'd have my items ready on a specific day, but they weren't ready. Then he started in with a ridiculous personal sob story about why they weren't done. He didn't care that this put me in a bind and was downright rude. Some other reviewers think his friendliness make him an asset. I'd rather have less insincere chatter and some sense of reliability. read more

I wonder if 1 star is perhaps a bit harsh, but I honestly can't think of anything positive to say except perhaps that his store is straight on a parking lot with easy access. I had some very simple work done on curtains and was stupid enough to not ask about the price until the last minute before leaving, whereas he told me "don't worry, it'll be a good price". That sounded like a used car dealer to me so I insisted, and he gave me a price that was much higher than I would have expected. To this day I don't know why I didn't just take my curtains and leave, but I guess I assumed this would be very high quality custom tailoring and that's what it costs. No such thing, the work looked like a fast lap on the sewing machine and a complete rip-off. I have the feeling this man feels that he's working in an affluent community that seems able to pay and why not take advantage of it. Unfortunately the work was mediocre so I can't justify more stars than one given his pricing. read more

Bob rocks. Just picked up my wedding suit Jacket and Vest which were challenging pieces and he nailed it. Fits better than I could have hoped. He's not the cheapest guy out there but you get the quality with the little extra you pay. Go to Bob. read more

I couldn't be less happy. I dropped off a brand new leather blazer to have the sleeves shortened and he inexplicably shortened the leather, but left the lining at full length, so it balloons out midway down the sleeve. He gathered the extra lining and sewed a seam around the base of the bunched up extra fabric. Both sleeves now have an uncomfortable clump of extra lining mid-arm and it's now unwearable. I'm probably going to have to take it to another tailor and have the sleeves re-lined, and by the time I'm through will probably spend as much as the cost of the jacket on tailors. It was also returned with a conspicuous visible scratch on the back, after having never been worn. read more

I like Bob! He is an old school tailor who knows his craft. He adjusted the shoulders and sleeves on a very expensive alpaca overcoat we got in Peru and did a marvelous job. He has also adjusted several suits as well. read more

Avoid this tailor. He did not have my items completed when he said they would be done. They were done over a week later. Then he tried to pull one on me. I actually know how to sew and asked that a zipper that was too long be removed replaced with a shorter zipper. The problem was the dress bunched at the bottom of the zipper. He did not do this. He merely sewed across the original zipper and then tried to charge me as if he put a new zipper in. In the end he did not charge me for sewing a half an inch with a sewing machine (maybe 5 minutes of work). If you do use him also make sure you get a firm price in writing before leaving. read more

Bob is a phenomenal tailor. I throw around compliments like this as often as I toss manhole covers... I moved from Los Gatos to Napa 2 years ago and I still drive to Menlo Park so Bob can alter my clothing. I wouldn't trust anyone else like I have trusted him for literally decades. read more

Bob is an old school old guy. With that said, he's one of the coolest old guys ever. I don't know what problems others may have had, but the only issue I've ever had is with the pick up time. Let's just say bob's memory of when things are supposed to be ready may leave something to be desired...but you know that going in, so you show up a day or two before he told you to, and then your cloths will be ready onetime. Or you take the other road and give him a few extra days. At any rate, bob rules, I won't use anyone else, and if he says something should be a certain way, it probably should. read more

Bob hemmed a sports jacket and pair of pants for me. The pants are rare unissued US Army officer pants from WW 2, so I was especially anxious that they be done properly. The jacket sleeves were of an unusual and elaborate pattern, so I wondered how he would shorten them without having them look odd and truncated. I found him very friendly and professional. He moved so rapidly during the fitting that I wondered if he would get it right. The final results were perfect. Even when I called him with some special instructions, he didn't seem to mind. He told me it would be done in a week and it probably was (I actually was out of town and picked it up the next week - he said he had been expecting me). I would definately recommend him. read more

I take everything to Bob. He's replaced zippers, fixed hems, took in pants. I am happy with all his work.

My go-to tailor for kids and my clothing, dress and daily wear. Excellent quality no matter what the chore, from zipper swap to sleeve lengthening to making a close-fitting suit look like it was made for me. read more
