Not so good. The Philly cheesesteak does not taste anywhere near a cheesesteak at all and this is sandwich is the fave of the company. The cook is heavy handed on the salt. The sub was loaded with hot peppers, which made it extremely hard to enjoy. Also, the sandwich was somewhat dry. I did like the taste of the steak though. It was tender and flavorful. The service was fine and the chips are good. The lighting is very dim and the dining room was slightly on the chilly side. I do like the old bottled cold cokes too. Unfortunately, I cannot foresee myself revisiting because I got the worse stomach ache afterwards. I was not impressed. Also, very high prices. read more

Was in the mood for a cheese steak, so I found this place online. I placed an order to go with the bartender, and I have to say this is an absolute amazing restaurant. The food is amazing the staff is down to earth, it's a Philly bar " GO BIRDS", the drinks are really good and overall it's now my go to place for amazing food. SO GOOD-- The chicken cheesesteak is so good it's somehow even better than the regular cheesesteak. Have tried several sandwiches off the menu, still can't get over the chicken. The sesame bread is perfect & I wish I could have it at home. It's all worth the money, highly recommend. Feel super lucky to have Stanley's here. I'm a big fan of cheesesteaks and have had them all around Richmond and Philly. When I heard that Stanley's took over the Robin Inn and specialized in cheesesteak my wife and I had to give it a try. We went early and got a seat easily. We decided to order the cheesesteak and the pork with broccoli rabe subs. At first I was skeptical about getting hot peppers on a cheesesteak, but I was proven wrong quickly. The peppers gave it great flavor and the cheese was nicely even distributed in the sandwich. One of the best parts was the bread, it tasted freshly baked and had a nice crisp on the outside. Probably the best cheesesteak in Richmond. The pork and broccoli rabe was amazing as well. It was juicy and the meat was tender. We will be back for sure! read more

We had at Stanley's last week. Everything was so good! How is that wedge salad so much better than everywhere else? It really is. And the cheesesteak was one of the best I've had. And it was huge. Delicious experience Friday night. My husband and I ordered 2 sandwiches and ate half of each, as it was our first time there and wanted to try multiple sandwiches. We had the beefy Philly cheesesteak and the McKoko. Both delicious. I'd order either again. But next I want to try the chicken cheesesteak sandwich ! And that bacon and turkey sandwich too. BTW, I'm glad we chose to have the peppers on the side for the Philly cheesesteak as they were spicy. I'd leave them out next time. The fries were meh. Probably since they were a bit undercooked. I'm a cheesesteak lover and was so excited Stanley's came to our neighborhood. I'm disappointed though. I wish there'd been more of a warning about the peppers. Also very salty. The biggest disappointment was the bread. I wasn't expecting a hard crunchy chewy roll. Excellent bread. Probably better than what you get in Philly. I travel to the city of brotherly love once a month. I suspect the owner visited Philly but really didn't do their due diligence. Roast Pork sandwich was not even close to authentic. Seasoning for pork was good but Like chopped BBQ (Eastern NC pork) not sliced like Philly. Broccoli rabe over cooked and no garlic. Sharp provolone was good but sparse on sandwich. Cheese steak was okay but short on meat, heavy on peppers and cheese was okay. No whiz option. Service was adequate but not excellent. Maybe this is as good as Philly gets in Richmond. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but it felt contrived. read more

This is the best cheese steak I have had in the metro Richmond area besides Waves in Hopewell. I would venture to say I might like this one a smidge better because the bread is slightly different. The square slice of tomato pie was great too. They have a happy hour special with a beer, shot, and a tomato pie for $10. The steak and cheese was $15ish but definitely worth it. Wanted to like it.... Went with Adult Family members and a Neighbor. Ambiance ??? Weak! Never visited Robin Inn but I can't imagine a whole lot was done making it even remotely a Philadelphia vibe. My fault for not checking but went because of a Social media challenge poking jabs at Hoagiefest and knocking $2 off Subs from 4-6..... perfect right? $16 Subs???? ( less $2) $14 ...such a deal right??? I hate to break it to you but unless there's a Wa Wa on the island of Hawaii charging $16 - I felt like I was taken! Bagged ruffle chips for plate coverage come on ...step up your game. For a couple bucks more I could have eaten at Acacia!! I'm from up North I know what a great Sub tastes like trust me. 2nd time in the past 3 months, I have arranged to meet friends there for dinner, and they were closed during the hours advertised on their door. As I approached there was a crowd of 6 people standing outside, I thought wow, they were busy and these people were waiting for a seat...nope, they were all in the same situation we were, showed up to meet friends. only to discover they were closed. There are other options in Richmond; I'll never set foot in this restaurant, which apparently will not matter to them since they are so successful that they can close whenever they want. read more

If you ask any Philly native, like me, for their top 10 list of best cheesesteak shops in the mother country, one establishment is sure to be on everyone's list. Angelo's in South Philly. I am pleased to announce that Angelo's has just opened a new location at the corner of Robinson Street and Park Avenue in Richmond. I spent last weekend in my hometown to watch my beloved Birds whop them Cowgirls (it was pretty close actually). I stopped at a number of cheesesteak cathedrals while there and thought trying Stanley's today would be unfair in light of the proximity of my visits to John's Roast Pork, Dalessandro's and Donkey's Place. Stanley's cheesesteaks are every bit as good and authentic as the aforementioned shrines of cheesesteak exceptionalism. The rolls are of Sarcone's Bakery perfection. He uses Cooper Sharp white American cheese - the purist's preferred varietal. The ribeye steak is chopped to a perfect consistency precisely like Angelo's does it. The hot peppers add just the right kick like the hot pepper relish at Donkey's Place in Camden. The people on this site who have propounded criticism of Stanley's cheesesteaks are just plain wrong. They do not know what they are talking about. I should mention that one of the owners' was my server. He was super nice and is Philly through and through. He too is a huge fan of Angelo's and has successfully managed to recreate the South Philly masterpiece in Richmond. BTW - the ambience is corner sports bar with Allen Iverson, Chase Utley, and Randall Cunningham jersey's hanging behind the bar. The owner told me he plays Eagles games on a big screen every Sunday they play. I could not recommend this gem of a place any more highly!! read more

Decent cheesesteak- possibly the best in town (but that's not saying much given the existing cheesesteak landscape in RVA). Bread is super overrated, there doesn't seem to be anything magical about it and I think the bread from other places is much better (e.g. 8 1/2). Very cool space- they really transformed it into a great place to hang out. Service is... not really service oriented. Basically it seems like they do what they do and if you like it great, but otherwise they don't really care. Some places are like that and you still keep coming back because whatever they are selling is incredible, but I don't think this place does that, at least not yet. read more

Food was okay, but service was terrible. I ordered a beer called Three Notches and when it arrived it was not that beer. I asked the arrogant bar tender who delivered the beer to tell me what it was and he said he was too busy. Well, the waiter tried to say he told me that something else was recommended which is not the case and still did not say what its was. This restaurant needs to get their customer service improved before I would ever step back into Stanley's.
