Nearly a decade ago I lived around the corner from here for 5 years. Except when I lived here Stan's was Jamba Juice. When I came back to the old hood and saw the Stan's sign I cursed, mostly because I love donuts and would have LOVED having them nearby while I was there. Alas, t'was not to be. But I popped in since I was in the area. Stan's Donuts are delicious. Like really delicious. And the flavors are well balanced and interesting. It was hard to choose there were SO many tasty options. We did a half dozen that included the biscoff and banana pocket, a croissant donut, jelly filled, plain glazed and more. I also got a half dozen for my mom (a thanks for watching our pups while we were gone), can of cold brew and their own nitro cold brew coffee. Our total? A whopping $52. Most expensive dozen donuts and coffee I think I've ever purchased in my life. So that's kinda why I withhold the last star. It's just pricey. Sure, we got some of the more specialty donuts, so the price added up, but still. Oof. I think if I went back I'd have to limit myself to just one or two to save some $. Such a cute little shop located right next to the Century Mall. I love the pastel colors and quaint little setup that they have inside. Its located right on the corner of Diversey and Clark. Although the selection was a little scarce during my visit there, I still enjoyed the donut that I had. To their defense, I got there around 5:30pm so I think they were getting ready to close and that's probably why they stopped making donuts. Anyways, the donut that I tried was still amazing. Nice and fluffy, soft, fresh, and freaking good. I ordered the blueberry jelly with cream cheese filling inside. Omg it was heaven. The glaze on the donut was to die for and it seemed to melt in your mouth upon every bite. The jelly was tasty and not too sweet and I didnt need to scrape it off. My friend had the captain crunch donut. I wasnt a fan because it had custard inside. But for those who are custard fans im sure you will love it. Thats all I had during this visit as I wasnt really trying to be a fatty but just needed to satisfy a quick sweet tooth craving. *pre covid review* We came here before a concert (remember those!?) and decided to grab a coffee and a donut while we waited. I got a basic iced coffee with cream and sugar and a cherry old fashioned donut. I know this sounds kind of dumb but both of the things I got were just too sweet. If I were to come again I would definitely ask to put my own sugar in instead of just ordering cream and sugar. I would also try another donut. The cherry flavor was very artificial and sweet. Service was 5 stars, the staff was really friendly and helpful. We came in on a rainy night with about 30 minutes until they closed so the matts were rolled up, most chairs turned on the tables and they were sweeping and cleaning getting ready for the next day. My friend from out of town was flying out early the next morning and wanted to get a donut and coffee for the morning. The 3 stars is because I asked what they do with the donuts that are left and not purchased by the time they close each day. They throw them away! What a waste. Was excited to try Stan's on our recent first trip to Chicago. Donuts are one of my absolute favorite foods....needless to say I expected something great here...and I was utterly disappointed. We tried 3 different donuts: the biscoff filled; the pretzel glazed; and the cronut with cream. All of the donuts tasted old. The biscoff donuts had barely any filling, and the filling that was inside was hard. The cronut was dry. And the pretzel donut tastes absolutely nothing like a pretzel. This was a good choice in life. This is one of the best donut places in Chicago. We showed up to the Pride Parade suuuuuper early and we happened to pick a spot by Stan's and thought we'd check it out. Good call! I got two donuts. One of them was a Pride Donut because it was too pretty to resist. The glaze/frosting was really good and sweet but not overpowering, and the donut tasted fresh and soft. It was a basic donut flavor, and it shows that Stan's has mastered the classics. My second choice was a Lemon Pistachio Old Fashioned. The lemon flavor is delicious, and there was a good amount of glaze on it, with a few pistachio pieces sprinkled on top. I wish you could actually taste the nut, though. Other than the few pieces visible on top and the green color of the glaze, I couldn't have told you there was pistachios in it. Can they PLEASE open one up in NYC? This place is amazing. We stayed at Hotel Versey which is a couple of doors down from Stan's which is on the corner. What we ordered on our first visit: the classic cinnamon sugar donut (not sure of the exact name), the Captain Crunch-filled donut, and 2 hot coffees. The donuts were 100% fresh and made the same day. The Captain Crunch donut was filled with a divine and definitely over-indulgent cream, but when on vacation, I'm pretty sure this is considered a balanced breakfast. The coffee was soooo good as well.. so good we stopped in the next day to try some more. What we ordered during our second visit: the Nutella donut and Toffee Cake donut. My oh my. The Toffee Cake is sooooo good. The cake consistency was perfect - moist, soft, but enough to hold up the toffee crisps and chocolate drizzle. I ordered the iced coffee with soy - since I'm counting calories, ya know - and it did not disappoint. If this place was closer, I'd be there every morning. What's the first thing I did when I checked into my hotel? I walked down the road and got some donuts, because donuts. I accidentally walked by this place while heading downtown and thanks to a cool sign, a long line, and the fact that I'm a chubby Canadian, I knew I needed to try this place. The inside of this location looks super cool and offers not only donuts, but ice cream donuts (which I actually tried the following day, will include). I ended up picking up one of the chocolate covered chocolate donuts and the marshmallow filled donut with marshmallows on the top. The chocolate donut was a piece of chocolate heaven and I sure did love that. The marshmallow donut was fluffy and tasty (my favourite kind of donut is a fluffy donut) and so filling that I didn't actually end up finishing the entire thing. The following day i actually returned with a friend and picked up one of the ice cream sandwich style donuts that was covered in chocolate and it was absolutely amazing, some best level donut/ice cream mashup right here. Overall, this place is fantastic and if you aren't coming here for some donuts you might be crazy. Amazing donuts, vegan options, and even some sweet treats to go with it. read more

Um, hello, it's STAN'S, a Chicago doughnut staple. How could you ever be disappointed? I've always loved them, and learned recently that they've started brewing their own coffee in the last year, which is rad. You go, Stan's! My first experience at a Stan's was about two years ago, when someone introduced me to a Banana Biscoff Pocket. I didn't know what that entire phrase meant all together, but I *do* know that I love banana-flavored anything and I love dessert, so I was convinced to eat one of these foreign treats easily. It remains one of my favorite items to buy there. My closest Stan's location to my home is this one over on Clark and Diversey, and I came here recently to try one of these cronuts everyone talks about. They were out because it was, like, 4:00pm, so I purchased a Capn' Crunch Pocket. Boy... they really know how to make a doughnut here. It was so great. I had no idea that Chicago took their donuts this seriously until I came to Stan's Donuts. Recommended by multiple visitors and locals, I decided to give this place a try as a meeting spot with a friend. I got a small coffee (black, which was a great decision in retrospect since the donuts were laden with oozing sweetness!!!) and a Red Velvet donut. I literally felt like I was eating a cupcake at 9AM in the morning. It was so soft, chewy, with the right amount of icing. Do I regret it? No. Might I develop some sort of insulin resistance down the road? Perhaps - but no regrets! This location's decor is super light, airy, with plenty of seating. There is a wall of multi-colored Cuisinart blenders that are quite social-media worthy ;) . Also, Stan's is located conveniently to multiple lines and bus routes, so easy to travel to, and also super close to lots of shopping. It was such a treat to be able to explore Chicago through this donut experience! read more

Cute upscale donut cafe. Located near so many shops Stan's offers a variety of fun drinks and delicious donuts. I previously sampled a few flavors at an event and immediatley realized I needed to try more as they were so good. When I went back they were sampling out the holiday chocolate peppermint flavor which was rich and full of flavor. I went late at night so I was worried there would not be much variety left, but there still was. So many options it was hard to pick. They even had gluten free options. I choose a chocolate donut filled with nutella and bananas. It did not disapoint and was quite large. My only complaint is it is a bit pricey as it cost with tax 4$. Visited Stans newest location yesterday to try out their donuts to go. Employees were very nice and welcomed me as soon as I came through their doors. I told them I've never visited the shop but wanted to get their recommendations since I had no idea what to order. They said their most popular donuts are the Lemon pistachio and the Boston creme. I ordered a lemon pistachio old fashioned for myself and a Captain crunch Bismarck for the husband. Behind the counter, the donuts look awfully pretty but the taste? Well honestly, they were meh. I wanted to like these a lot but couldn't muster the courage to give Stans no more than 3 stars. Interior is clean and cozy and there's a Sea Foam green leather sofa with tables and chairs to seat about 10-14 people in the interior. But going back to the donuts. The donuts were just way too dry for me and they were too sweet! And in other Yelp reviews, I noticed that the lemon pistachio tasted more lemony versus pistachio. In fact I didn't even taste a hint of pistachio in the donut. That alone was disappointing. Also, I like my donuts soft and fluffy and although an old fashioned is normally made with a dense batter, the donut just tasted stale and dry. Most of all, $5.00 for two specialty donuts seems a lil steep for the quality and in the end, buying them wasn't worth the money. My husbands captain crunch Bismarck was okay but not spectacular. I was in Chicago recently and I wanted to start my day with a donut! I was staying with friends in Lincoln Park and they took me to Stan's Donuts and Coffee. I enjoyed the Donuts a lot here and was really surprised about the different flavors they had. Since it was a donut shop I wanted to taste a lot of donuts so I got 6 and only had a few bites of each of them. I was with friends so they shared them as well. I also tried a bagel as well. My favorites were the Blueberry with creme cheese stuffed in the middle I just with there was more creme cheese stuffed inside. I did not like the Strawberry old fashioned donut because it was just a traditional strawberry donut with strawberry glaze on top. The maple bar was pretty good. I did not like the blueberry fritter. We also got a bagel and they asked if we wanted creme cheese. I was surprised when they gave us a little pack of creme cheese and do not spread it for us. I thought that was really weird. The price is really expensive. I found the donuts to be way over priced. I don't think I would go back! There have to be really good donuts in Chicago somewhere and I am determined to find them! read more
