I've been hearing about Stan's Donuts over the past year, but never go the opportunity to try them. Today, my co-worker's boss brought her a box of 6 donuts for her birthday, and I was secretly praying that she'd share them. She did! Convenient donut and coffee spot on the corner of Clark and W Diversey. I grabbed the lemon pistachio donut and the blueberry bismark (jelly filled). The lemon pistachio was slightly disappointing, glaze barely had the lemon zest I was expected and I couldn't discern the pistachio. Furthermore the donut was very dry and crunchy, possibly because I bought it in the afternoon and it's been out for a while. However, the blueberry bismarck saved the day! Much softer and fluffy to bite into while oozing sweet blueberry jelly, would highly recommend this one for any jelly filled fans! Lastly, the guy at the cashier was very energetic and warm. A bit of overkill. First - a $3-4 donut? Okay, they are pretty fancy. Buy holy Instant Diabetes, Batman. Granted, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. But evveerrryy once in awhile, I'll indulge in a buttercream nightmare, in this case, the Buttercream Bismark - a chocolate covered donut stuffed with buttercream. This thing was good . . . for the first few bites. After that, it was so sweet and rich, I thought I was going to pass out. I shoulda split it - not Stan's fault. The coffee is good. It's not "gourmet" (that's a word that gets bandied about far too often). It's good. It's quite good. The place is cute, and smells good. Came here today after seeing the Ginger Man Stan donut sign in the window. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Christmas. I bought two (pic is of one of them). First, the store was really clean and busy. The people working behind the counter were very helpful and efficient in getting peoples orders. And let me tell you it was crowded for a Monday! The donuts were really tasty. I wasn't sure how they might be because it's a mix of ginger bread and chocolate. Honestly, they were so cute I didn't want to eat them. But I did and it was awesome. Usually, when I order their signature ice cream shake, it's rich and delicious. Especially with the mini donut on the top, it's just perfect for an afternoon snack break. These couple weeks, they have ran out of the mini donuts which come with the ice cream shake. But neither of the couple times I visited here was I informed that they wouldn't come with the mini donuts, until I asked. And there was nothing done to make up for it except "sorry we ran out the mini donuts." This was my favorite Stan's location, but their reaction to this issue is making me walk away now. read more

The Le Stan croissant donut is the GOAT. It is different from traditional donuts, the entire thing is giant but not too heavy, and it's custard filling was on point! I really recommend this donut and I believe they have seasonal filling sometimes across the year. read more

It pains me to give a 2 star rating to, of all places, a gourmet donut shop. Like seriously pains me. My hope and expectation was so high for Stan's so maybe I set myself up for disappointment but dang, this was bad, y'all. We came here on a Sunday morning after driving by the shop on Michigan Ave and seeing a line probably 30 people deep - no joke. Maybe a crowd that big willing to stand outside in the cold for a donut only added to my confidence that this was going to be a celestial donut experience? We quickly ran a google search and found a location that was a bit more off the beaten path (Chicago rookies, for sure) and found this one on Clark. We were fortunate enough to find a parking spot close by and went inside. The smell was intoxicating (hello, donuts). We. were. ready. We got a half dozen - custard cronut, apple cronut, maple long john, chocolate sprinkle, vanilla sprinkle and a buttermilk bar. The woman behind the counter was amazing - answered our (many) questions, was patient and kind and if this review was on her alone, it'd be 5 stars. But the donuts. The donuts. The freaking donuts. $26.00 later (!!!), we took our loot outside, sat down on a bench and dove in - me with the maple long john and my husband with the chocolate sprinkle. The anticipation was palpable. First bite....huh? Is this a joke? This can't be real. The donuts were, well, ok. At best. The first thing we both commented on was that they were dry. I'm accustomed to a moist, dense and soft donut that almost melts in your mouth (even a cake donut). These were not that. At all. Could it be that both of us just chose the wrong donuts? My hope was still there as I told my husband that the others would probably be amazing. Nope. Not kidding, every single one was disappointing! The only thing that was really, really good was the custard filling in one of the cronuts. That's it. I am not in any way, shape or form exaggerating when I say I've had better gas station donuts. Ever been to Vegas? Carl's Donuts supplies most of the local gas stations and those are better than Stan's. Echelons better. Like I said, I wanted to love these donuts. Living in Green Bay, a good donut shop is non-existent so I absolutely made a point to search one out in Chicago. We were told by an Uber driver about the popularity of Stan's and after doing a lot of online research and review reading, we thought this would fit the bill. Sadly, this aint it. The first thing I should have done was stop in here, but alas I was trying to resist. I prefer a more classic, mom and pop style donuts. My Chicagoan friend told me I had to try the Nutella one, and on my last day in town I did! AGH. It was so good I wish I would have gotten like 4 different ones to sample. I was truly excited about going to Stan's Donuts because I had heard so much about them but I was not impressed. The Donuts are expensive I mean two donuts for over $7 buck that just doesn't make any sense to me but my boyfriend wanted me to have a treat since I kept talking about how I wanted try them. I had the red velvet donut and he had some type chocolate concoction and I can't remember the flavor. I was going to get the glaze donut but there was a fly jumping from donut to donut like it was his own personal indoor trampoline playroom. I believe they should invest in door on the back of the counter to at least help keep the bugs out of the donuts. Was excited to try these Chicago famed donuts first thing in the morning during a visit. The cashier was extremely friendly and sweet. The cafe was well lit and done offering a bright vibe. We wanted to sample a few and ordered the hash browns, a breakfast egg and cheese sandwich, coffee and four donuts (pistachio lemon, cronut, Nutella banana and a powdered sugar). The donuts was stale, dry and definitely not worth the calories. The coffee was not good, the hash browns greasy and soggy and the the sandwich flavorless. Overall sadly disappointed. read more

I need to preface this by saying that I'm nowhere near visiting every donut shop in Chicago, so maybe I'm missing out on "the best" but these are my favorite so far. I'm glad I don't live anywhere near any of Stan's Donuts locations (though they are going to be in Oak Brook soon) because I have very little self control and I end up getting a half dozen whenever I'm in the area. I didn't completely get the Lemon Pistachio Old Fashioned the first time and it's still not the standout for me, but the second try left me feeling it more. However, I don't pick up on the pistachio. It's totally a lemon donut with some earthy flavoring, and it's fabulous. But I'm head over heels for the Orange Old Fashioned. I also enjoy the Maple Bacon Long John, the Cherry Old Fashioned, the Apple Fritter (so fluffy!), and the Biscoff Pocket. You really can't go wrong with any of them. read more

I pass by this place almost every day and decided to come in when the line was not out the door. I'm actually glad I waited because I didn't find it to my liking. I chose a raspberry filled donut and an egg bagel with onion & chive cream cheese. The raspberry filled donut was a homage to The Rolling Stones, but it wasn't a classic: the donut itself was very thin and about 90% filling. When I bit into it, it fell apart instantly and was very messy, and for a price of $4.99......talk about 'No Expectations'. I did enjoy the egg bagel, it was decent in size and toasted properly. The counter worker that was helping us forgot to take it out and give it to us, so we had to ask the other worker to get it. I'm a sucker for spreads and cheeses, but Stan's cream cheese disappointed me greatly: it was a pre-packaged individual sized Philadelphia Cream Cheese 'onion and chive' flavor. At a price of $.99, it was an extreme letdown. I was instantly sad when I returned home and a tiny 1oz container tumbled out of the bag. The only reason why I buy my cream cheese at bakeries and not supermarkets is because I don't like cream cheese that resembles glue in a cup. Absolutely atrocious. I was so excited to get a donut. The atmosphere is cute and the donuts look so good. I waited in a 45 minute line and got a box. We got some of everything. I took one bite and I immediately felt sick to my stomach. I don't get nauseated often, but this was horrible. I ate one donut before I was sick. I ended up throwing up in the Ohare airport after. -5/5 stars. The "stars" are in the Ohare toilet along with my hopes and dreams. For your own sake, get Dunkin. It's so much better read more

Walked in here and was packed with ghosts, besides the workers. I was surprised that I was the only one in the donut shop. Lol but... then a few other donut fanatics came in right after I did. My favorites are their Blueberry Cream Cheese Pocket, Cherry Old Fashioned, Chocolate Pocket with Nutella, and Blueberry Old Fashioned. I just got to say, while this is probably one of the most expensive donut shops out there - the donuts give you life particularly paired with the coffee from la colombe that they serve...oh ma gawd while i am nowhere near experiencing the abundant donut scene chicago offers, for me the mark of a good donut place for some reason is if they have a good old fashion and man they hit it out of the park. I also had the maple bacon donut and you already know i've said enough. so far, i prefer stan's over do-rite and other "craft" donut shops in the city. If you've been fiending for a donut, it's worth going out of the way for. Until I come across a better donut shop in chicago - 5 stars for Stan's. I stopped by here today after work to pick up some donuts for my daughter. I left my wallet at home by mistake, so I tried using Apple Pay for the first time, and it would not work for anything. The guy at the registered was so patient in trying to help me figure it out. I felt bad, because I ordered 4 donuts, and they were waiting to be devoured by a hungry teenager. I made several attempts to use the Apple Pay, and it would not go through. I wanted to be the hero in this situation because my daughter was depending on me at this time, but Kyle became the hero.
