Yay donuts! When we come to the Oak Brook Mall, we usually stop at Stan's. Unfortunately, we came in near Macy's, so we had to walk across the entire mall to get to the upstairs food court area (The District). We hit our 10k steps this day, haha. However, my three star review comes from the set up and lack of organization. I should preface with the mall was extremely crowded on this particular day. There was no clear direction on where to stand to order, the menu was no where near the cashier, and the donuts were in a display case around the corner from where you place your order. Again my review has no bearing on the quality. I am impressed with the quality, but this needs to be in a better location or at least have a better flow. Unfortunately Stan's isn't worth the hype. Way overpriced for the quality of the food. Had the cherry cream cheese & it was straight diabetes. The toffee donut was better than the cherry. Ordered spinach croissant & it was bland, wasn't even warm/toasted like I asked. Ordered the mango refresher and honestly I'm better off going to Dunkin Donuts for the refresher. My mom and I popped into Stan's last weekend to grab a coffee and a few donuts. I love the convenient location they have right in the Oak Brook mall. The stores in the mall open at 11AM but Stan's opens at 6AM I think which is awesome! I tried something new this time and got the Vanilla Sprinkled "birthday" Cake donut and few others to go. The vanilla sprinkled cake donut was tasty but a little too sweet for me. The cake consistency was great though- moist still and not dry at all. I got a chai-latte to drink and it was served extra hot and hit the spot. Note: If you want a certain kind of donut(s), get here early in the morning! We popped in about 10AM and they only had like 5 boston cream donuts left. Also, I ordered a water on the side and the employee gave me a water cup to fill with the water faucet on their counter. This water had a really bad taste unfortunately. It tasted like paint.. I'm not sure if the pipes made it taste like that or it was the cup but definitely took away from everything I was eating/drinking. On another hand, the ordering station here isn't very customer friendly. Their menu blocks the customers from the employees so it's hard to have conversation. Also, the line forms right in from of the main door to get into the food court area. It's fine but I think snake-ing it around by the window could open up some space for people to order? The latter is a front-runner because it is a hybrid combination of my two favorite baked goods. The croissant on the inside is buttery and flakey. Beneath the sugary top is a thin layer of custard that adds a fine touch to the donut. After each visit, I would make a mental note to try something new at the next visit but I would almost always end up ordering the same thing. We tried the apple fritter while there and oh my goodness; probably one of the best apple fritters I have ever had in my life. One a major fan of Stans and really think they have some of the best donuts around. I was at OakBrook Mall and promised my kids we will grab a donut for the road. We came to the food court and stood in like (went quick), and found a horrible selection. They had nearly nothing left to pick from- maybe 3 differently options. Stan's is dangerous for my wallet and for my waist line. From the first time I visited Stan's in Chicago -- I've been hooked, unable to hold myself to just 1 donut a visit. With that said though, Stan's is much better than the majority of donut shops you find in the suburbs. Yeast donuts are fluffy, creams and custards are rich and flavorful, and cake donuts aren't too sweet. The donuts are made with higher quality ingredients and it shows in the flavor. Donuts are my crack and thankfully they fry their donuts in peanut oil or sunflower not sure which one it was but definitely not LARD. I always ask when I go to make sure. They always have a great selection and seasonal donuts are always yummy. Unfortunately to get the best and find them in stock will depend the time of the day you go. So early bird gets the worm It is a little on the pricy side but they're definitely bigger in size than your standard donut. Stopped by here for a quick snack before returning home. There was a long line, not sure if the donuts are really that good or service was just slow. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted because all the donuts looked so good. I ended up with one of their specialty ones called Captain Crunch. I liked it! The only thing that turned me off was that the cereal on the top was kind of soft and soggy. Bleh, the donut was fresh but the cereal wasn't. It affected the overall taste of it. SO got a Biscoff Pocket because he claimed it was one of his favorites. Don't know if he got a different variety of it, but we didn't like it as much because of how dry it was on the inside. It had no flavor whatsoever. He said they usually put a cream filling inside, so maybe he ordered the wrong one. We also got a couple of drinks, but I guess they aren't known so much for the drinks because no one got them except for us. It's understandable for being a donut place. The drinks ended up being very plain but it did help to rinse our mouths after eating the donuts. I like how this location is right in a mall/food court... so we were able to find seats and eat right away. I tasted zero banana in the chocolate banana donut while the others were good. They definitely are not on the same level as a Dunkin Donuts but they also cost more than double per donut. The fillings were a little thin on the inside as well. Customer service was average with the exception of the girl who made my iced latte; she was very nice. The coffee was very good and felt that was the best part of the experience. For 12 donuts and an iced latte my bill was $34.34. Just like other reviewers said they are on the high side cost wise. Your bright pink façade, giant window full of donut selections, mouthwatering aromas, and mysterious, constant lines of people are what drew me in. And now I can't stay away. The cherry old fashioned and the nutella pocket are seriously amongst some of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth. A close second? Their DRAFT cold brew coffee and lattes. They'll add vanilla syrup for a small upcharge, and THAT my friends, might be heaven.
