After multiple instances of my clothes being ruined, it's time to write a review. The owners are kind without a doubt, however, after picking up clothes yet again and not being able to wear them again, it is frustrating, especially when you consider the cost that you paid for it. The most recent pick up, my shirt shrank considerably. I've had other instances where stains (almost bleach like) on 2 pick ups that ruined the clothes. Another instance I was charged around $60+ for a coat that had stains they said they'd removed, they were unable to remove them. Given the multiple mishaps, I will look for another place to have my clothes dry cleaned. At this point it became unacceptable. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! (Broken item, tried to upcharge from original price for service, tried to charge for repair) Star Cleaners broke a button on my coat. I went back in once I realized this, the coat still having the dry cleaning tag on it with my info/order and their company hanger, and the lady said it was going to cost me money to have it repaired. She referenced company policy, so I asked where company policy was stated or displayed regarding this matter and she said "it is common sense." She then stated she "could not trust" me because I did not have history with them. Furthermore, when I first picked up this coat along with the two other sweaters, she tried to up charge me from the initially agreed upon cost to have the three items laundered. She then reverted back to the originally agreed upon price and apologized stating there was a confusion. The sweaters were returned stretched and loose fitting and the button on my coat was broken. Absolutely terrible business practice on multiple different levels. HIGHLY RECOMMEND - Saber Cleaners & Alterations. Lastly, this is the first Yelp review I have ever made so it should go to show that I took the time out of my day to hopefully WARN anyone of what to expect. I cannot fathom how this place is still running business. From their unprofessionalism to not having a system in place when items are lost on their behalf, this place needs to be SHUT DOWN. They lost one of my most precious Montclair coats! When I asked them about their Insurance policy that they haven't placed for items that are lost, they said that they got rid of their insurance because the business isn't doing well. Dry cleaners are hard to come by in Southend. The general population of the area is not your dry cleaning crowd. Most work from home or in a casual environment. The need for a pressed suit, dress shirt or blouse isn't high. Star Cleaners doesn't have to be nice, they just have to be open. But thankfully, they're nice people. I walked in to have a couple shirts altered. As soon as I mentioned I need alterations the man seemed disappointed and bothered. I put the shirt on that needed altered and the first thing he said was this will be very expensive. I could immediately tell this was not the place to go for alterations. I told him Nevermind, I would go somewhere else. He started to argue with me about the price and I am fully aware that alterations aren't cheap but I would be taking my business somewhere else. I took a dress here to have dry cleaned. I thought the price was high ($18) but they did a good job. They offer complimentary bottled water in a refrigerator next to the cash register. They also do alterations. I dropped off on a Saturday and they said it would be ready on Thursday after 5pm. That is a longer turnaround time than I'm used to so if I find someplace faster I'll probably switch. It's located in the Harris Teeter shopping center on S Blvd so parking can be tough depending on time of day. There are 3 "15 minute parking" spots right in front of Star Cleaners so that is helpful when you just need to pop in really quick. read more

I decided to give this business a chance despite hearing negative reviews from friends and colleagues. The first drop I did was fine so I dropped off a Tux 10 days before a wedding. Unfortunately, the Tuxedo shirt came back without any buttons. I'm not sure what happened in the cleaning process but I've had the shirt cleaned at other establishments with no issues. I was blamed for not telling the desk it was a special shirt (despite the receipt saying "1 Tux Shirt") and given a $4 discount while still being charged $20 for the cleaning. Safe to say, I will not be returning and recommend anyone that has more specialty cleaning needs go somewhere else. read more

I brought a pair of pants to be shortened. I wanted a straight cut/raw hem - no sewing even required! They had completed this on another pair of jeans in the past (however, at the wrong length), but when I brought them in they first LOST them for 2+ weeks then told me "that will look ugly" and would not cut the bottoms with a raw hem! When they couldn't locate the item, they told me they would not be giving a full refund even though I had the receipt and had never worn the item (obviously because they were too long!). Great customer service and quality. The more you bring the better the price. I usually have 18 articles of clothing and my bill is usually under $40. It's my go to for business shirts. Wash and press is usually under $2. Make sure you specify the amount of starch your want. As another rater said, the default is no starch. They don't only do clothing. My dog felt that my couch needed to be puked on. Star Cleaners were able to get those delightful chunks out of the couch along with the plethora of dog hair. The nice little ol' lady that owns the place is super awesome and very welcoming. The turn around time is good as well. I would say my clothes are usually ready within 2 days. If you need it quicker and you ask nicely they might be able to get it to you sooner. The location is super convenient to anybody residing in the South End and the value is pretty much unmatched. Trust me, I've checked prices in other neighborhoods. I was in a wedding last weekend and basically ruined the bottom of my bridesmaid dress (mixture of mud since it rained as well as dirty bar floor since some of us went out after). I took a chance on this place since I have never needed anything dry cleaned as long as I have lived in Charlotte. The woman who helped me was so kind- although she was surprised at how bad my dress looked. She told me to give her until Friday after 5 pm (I dropped it off on a Monday) which was fine because I didn't need the dress immediately anyway. When I picked the dress up, it looked great! This is the worse experience of customer service I have had, she refused to reimburse me for the tailoring job. Their prices are low but sometimes they don't do a good cleaning job on white shirts. My mother and I have been coming to this place for over 8 years and I decided to have my basically new curtains cleaned. After picking them up I noticed the curtains were damaged on the inside layer, after going back to request a refund for the curtains and after a long time insisting, the owner agreed on refunding the dry clean fee and 50% of the price of the curtains. She refused to give me back MY damaged curtains that she originally kept because they were going to try to "fix" them, she told me it was policy to keep the curtains for a year before giving back to customer. There is no sign anywhere saying this and she was unable to provide any proof of this policy. After ignoring me for a few minutes she then stated if I gave her the money back that she partially refunded I could have the damaged curtains back next week. I understand mistakes happen but they should be fully responsible for the damages and allow the customer to keep the curtains I PAID FOR. read more

First few times I went here things were great. Decent prices and good turn around time. Last few have me searching for a new seamstress. Two different occasions I went to pick up items when she said they would be ready-and they weren't. (Her husband was having some health issues at the time, so of course I was giving grace but just tell me a few days extra if that's what it was going to take. After reading the good reviews here I decided to give this place a shot since it's close to home. HUGE MISTAKE. I dropped off a suit on Thursday that I needed for a Tuesday interview - promised to have it ready Monday. Went Monday and it wasn't there...told me to come back Tuesday morning on the way to my interview. Not good. Luckily when I came back Tuesday it was there...BUT it was not pressed at all. Honestly it looked more wrinkled then when I took it in. So disappointed. Not to mention it was $15 for just a press, not even cleaned. WORST EXPERIENCE! DON'T EVER GO HERE! I have been here before and always thought they did a fine job, it was cheap and close to home. About 4 weeks ago, i went to pick up my dry cleaning. I immediately noticed my white silk top had multiple stains all over it and brought it to the lady's attention. From the looks of it, it was ruined. The top now had an off white tint and had at least 5-6 stains throughout that looked like ink pen stains, but the lady said to leave it with them for another week and she would fix it. Week goes by and i'm told she needs yet another week. I ask, do you think it's actually fixable and she assures me it is. Finally, today she informs me it's not repairable and that all she can give me is $40. I explain the tops $175 and i want to be reimbursed for the full amount ( offered to show verification of similar tops by the designer to confirm the price point). She keeps saying $40 is all she can do and ignores me when i ask to speak with a manager or if there was a number i could call. At this point I ask to at least see the shirt and have it returned to me and she informs me she will not give it back nor will she even give me the $40 refund and she turns her back on me and ignores me. At no point did i raise my voice, curse, or do anything to deserve this treatment. I continue to ask to at least have my shirt returned to me and the minimum refund she claims she can offer of $40 and she ignores me and keeps her back to me. At this point i call the police station and explain the situation to them and ask her one last time if she will at least give me my shirt and $40. She still ignores me so i had to have a police officer come to assist. Once the police office shows up( and i feel so silly calling them for such an absurd thing but I was at a loss as to what i should do and they were very understanding and quite shocked at the situation) she finally informs him after he questions her for 10 minutes that the shirt is in fact lost and that's why she can't even return it to me. Then after another 10 minutes of discussion she finally hands over $40 and explains she's doing me a favor because she's not even making me pay for the dry cleaning of the other items i picked up ( Did she really expect me to still pay for those?) . The whole ordeal took 1.5 hrs and was the worst customer service i have ever received in my life. The police office informed me i should report them to the BBB which i will certainly be doing. Spend the little bit of extra money and go somewhere else. read more
