I had the catfish and grits, while others had the chicken and waffles, etc. I'd recommend going before 11 am because once folks get out of church, they head straight to Motown Bistro for Sunday brunch.

They are located next door to Bert's Marketplace. The outside signage is covered and makes the Bistro difficulty find. There is street parking out front and lot parking across the street. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Once inside you immediately notice that the place is pretty dated and run down. The booth benches feel as if you're both sinking in and hanging off the edge at the same time. The Motown themed decor and piano doesn't quite make up for it but does give it a somewhat vintage feel. We went in on a hot summer day and the air conditioning seemed to not be on. The service began with room temperature tap water with no ice and our server running down a list of things that were not available that day. Also, clarifying that they do not accommodate any special requests or any changes or substitutions on menu items -- "our menu is what it is." The food was slow to come from the kitchen and tasted mediocre. The rolls were unimpressive and straight out of a package. The fried oyster appetizer was nicely presented but small in portion for the price ($15 for four small oysters). The steak bites and salads were decent. The only saving grace is the live music. There is a pianist and vocalist offering a nice rendition of all the famous Motown tunes that will make you want to sing along. I'll have to say that based on my experience here I wouldn't recommend it and I probably won't be visiting again.

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

Thankfully, there wasn't much of a wait, but your entire party needs to be present before being seated. I ordered the Ultimate Catdaddy and was happy with my food. I recommend ordering under the section "Elevated Grits N Shyt" because the catfish and ultimate shrimp n grits are the stars of the menu. Everything was delicious with large portions that I took home leftovers. My friend was not as satisfied with her ACTBAD skillet. I took a bite and thought it was a bit salty. She said that there were parts of the skillet that were cold. When she asked if it could be warmed up, she was told that the restaurant did not have a microwave (??) but that they could give her a new dish. My friend decided to keep it, but it should not have been a problem to take her skillet and reheat it on the stovetop. I would not recommend ordering the ACTBAD. As I said above, stick to the catfish and grits.
