This place has sooooo much potential...... However the service fell flat for us. My party of 3 arrived for our 6:15pm reservation a few minutes early, place was fairly empty so we were seated immediately at a small four top table. This is problem number one. For the amounts of things they are piling on the tables for the all you can eat crab night, they should not seat more than two people at these small tables. (Water carafe, glasses, bread basket, waste basket, salt/pepper, side plates, butter silverware, extra napkins and your dinner plates). Our server "forgot " the drink order so we waited about 35 mins for it after a reminder...again place is fairly empty sooooooo.... The first plate of crab come with two clusters. Every one after that comes with one. The initial order was water logged making it tough to open the shells. Next set was much better. The first refill was timely and that where it all stopped. We had great difficult getting anything after that. We were told they would put our order in and it would be 8-10 minutes (each time) which it never was. This process was just not well planned out at all. By the time we got our check and carry out dessert it was after 9 pm. Which is crazy!!! My party of three also had a mandatory gratuity of 18% tacked on to our bill. Never seen that for a small party and if that's your policy please let customers know UPFRONT.. I'm a great tipper when service is on par but my forced three hour meal did not warrant 18%.

I arrived at Chartreuse, forgetting that they're not open on Sundays, and so we asked Yelp for another place not too far away, and it suggested Motown Bistro as new and hot. I like new and hot! I joked with my partner that Motown Bistro has to be one of the less original/creative names for a new place in Detroit that I've seen in a while, but I get that naming is difficult. We drove by the place a few times - the signage is the same yellow color and font as all the Bert's signs, and it's kind of tucked into the same strip, so it's easy to miss. But it's in a pretty nice location right near Eastern Market. There were only a couple tables occupied, so we were a bit nervous. The space is cozy and the booth was nice. It has a TV in the booth, which might be nice if we were there during an exciting sporting event, but since we were there for date night we turned it off. The music selection was a pleasant mix of jazz and blues, which was good for ambiance. We ordered the calamari appetizer, which was fantastic. Very tender, with a light breading, and a healthy dose of capers and peppers in a light citrusy sauce. Would definitely order again. I thought it took a very long time to come out given that the place was almost empty, but quality takes time. The wine came out in a mini-carafe and was solid for the price. The server left a carafe of water at the table, which is a nice touch as I always run out and hate waiting for refills. For my entree, I chose lamb chops which came with mashed potatoes, and I chose asparagus for my vegetable. The lamb was excellent - the sauce underneath complemented both the potatoes and lamb chops perfectly. The asparagus had a slight char on the outside but was tender on the inside - I have never quite managed that trick when grilling or roasting at home, so I was a bit envious. I stole a few bites of my companion's seafood risotto and it was delicious. One aspect of the meal made me a bit sad - it was not hot. Everything tasted as though it had been finished, plated, and then sat for a while. I'm not sure if that's because the appetizer came out so late and they wanted to give us time to finish it, or because my dish and my companion's weren't ready at the same time, or the server went on break - but regardless of the reason, room temperature food isn't good at a fine dining establishment. I would have loved to save room for dessert, but the appetizer was filling and the clock was ticking on the babysitter, so we'll have to try them next time. And I do plan to return - the New York Oscar is calling my name.

Idk what this is but cord management or building a cover for it.

I really hate to write this review but it has to be said. The food here is delicious. Unfortunately the establishment in many ways looks run down. I usually sit at a table but today I sat at the bar. The napkinholders, mirrors and bar in general looked dirty. Having a front row seat at Eastern Market is a major thing and this place is NOT A GOOD REPRESENTATION of what dining in Detroit should be. I was astounded by the amount of unsightly cords visible from the bar seats and other random items. Its truly ashame that the food is good and the place looks so shabby.

Great experience! Crablegs all you can eat on Thursdays! Nice ambiance with classic music and also live music. Marty on the piano and a great smooth singing voice. Awesome service from Marvin. Definitely will return. Great parking too!

Cool vibe small place with old school piano and bass duo. The service was slow and a bit lackluster, but pleasant and polite. Bar service took forever for a couple of Old Fashions. The Shrimp Diablo app was good with just the right amount of heat. Motown Surf & Turf was awesome and the Seafood Risotto was very good as well. Had we ended the night there, I would have given 4 stars. However, we ordered desert. It could only be described as a $12 think slice of Duncan Hines box mix cake with matching canned frosting. Seriously my kids bake the same if not better at home. I would definitely come back, and enjoy it. I would just skip desert.

The experience was great. The food was amazing. My husband and I enjoyed it as well as the Service which was absolutely amazing. We had calamari and salmon cakes as an appetizer. The calamari was absolutely the best food I've ever experienced. In light of the state of the world right now, l was impressed and will definitely be back. It was expensive as ever but it's a seafood and steak restaurant so expect that, but it was well worth every cent. The tip is also included in the meal, so expect the gratuity as well.

Service- Slow, we had reservations and still waited 15 mins past our reservation time and 30 mins before someone even decided to give us water. We had to ask for bread and when we received it I was so disappointed with the standard loaf of wheat bread used to make a sandwich at home, which was cut in half slices...smh. Food- I ordered the Lobster Thermodoire & ribeye my husband ordered the lobster tail and my daughter ordered the lamb chops. Lobster Thermodoire-good but very small and I only received half of the lobster the steak was over cooked but still ok. Lobster tail- my husband said it was ok but canned vegetables Lamb Chop-my daughter said it was good but she sent back the canned vegetable rice mix that accompanied the chops. Bathroom was disgusting, as it is shared with Berts which is a whole in the wall but city staple... I would describe Motown as a wanna be established but failed miserably. WANNA BE Posh Swank Professional Sophisticated and Professional INSTEAD Cheap decor Dirty bathroom Cheap food ingredients Undesirable patrons...drunk dude at bar with his whole ass showing Unprofessional and inattentive staff Also 18% gratuity party of 3 ??? My tip is to call Chef Gordon Ramsey for help, definitely a Kitchen Nightmare! This place needs real REAL help from the bottom up? WILL NOT RETURN!!!!

Trash buffet spent $114.00 for cold food . All the good food was gone and we just had to eat what was left over. Cant even support black business .smh trash

Our food was delicious. Ambiance was perfect. Live Music- sing and band were talented. One suggestion I would make is to replace the booth seats with larger ones. We were originally seated at a booth however I felt myself slipping forward. We tried another booth before we asked for a table.

My children wanted to hang out and take me out for my birthday near the Eastern Market because they heard about the music, food and wine. So they picked TMB. Due to the signs being covered by the white tents and the outdoor dining, you would not know where to go or even notice the TMB sign, there's no real entrance and you have to navigate your way through those dining outside to get to where the host is and they will guide you inside. We had a party of 15 which they gave us four tables and made it clear that each table had their own server and their own checks. We sat down at 7 PM and by the time we received our food it was 8:15, so by the time everyone ate and the bill came is was now 9:20, they have a sign stating there's a time limit on tables and that time was 1 hour and 15 mins, well, as you can see, it took that long just to get our food. Our server was polite and did his best, but no real urgency to serve. Very relaxed and laid back. The food was tasty but the prices are really over rated, it's definitely not a family friendly restaurant. This is probably a place you can stop in grab a bite and a drink and head to the show. Maybe a good spot for lunch, but I'm not even sure if they're open for lunch. The music is their saving grace. There was a jazz piano player/singer and a bass guitarist. The bar area isn't very large only maybe 6-8 people and then there's a standing room for the other 6 -8 people to stand and drink . My husband wants to try it one more time for our date night and try one of their musical booths to see if it will make our list or not! Stay tuned for my next updated review.

I can say I liked the food. Prices are similar to fine dining but I wouldn't say the ambiance is like fine dining restaurant. It's a certain vibe which isn't bad but not as updated as I expected. Customer service was decent I would go back

    Surf and turf special

This was my first time and I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. I got the surf and turf special which came with soup or salad. It was a huge portion. I got 3 pieces of a shrimp scampi, lamb chops, a full lobster with an amazing cream sauce, mashed potatoes and green beans. I got the clam chowder which I enjoyed. There were some things that weren't so great though. First off, the booth is a bit risen. I put my foot down and went sliding. The floor of the booth must have been greasy or something. They were also out of stuff such as white wine and olive juice for a dirty martini. The server was very nice and told me the peach cobbler doesn't come with ice cream at that time. I asked why. He said he was freezer burned haha. I said that maybe that was another day and asked if he could check again. He came back and said it was the same stuff so still freezer burned. I was a little disappointed as I wanted ice cream with it, but it's not the end of the world. Overall, I enjoyed the vibe of this place. Old school and a man played the piano. I'll def be back!

The atmosphere was very nice. Great jazz music in the background played by two musicians. Started off with the artichoke dip. It was delicious. My wife enjoyed her land and sea special for the day. A bit pricey at $109.00. My cowboy steak was ordered medium well. Cutting into the steak was very tough. I did not except that and was a bit disappointed with that. My daughter enjoyed her Motown surf and turf, She was disappointed with her steak. She ordered it as medium and was very red inside. The cooking staff must have had a bad day cooking steaks. It will not stop me from going back. I will order something else and not the steak again. Our waiter Will was great.

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

As others have mentioned, seating is somewhat limited, but that only adds to the excellent service and intimate experience. I wish I remembered the names of our server and the manager because they were incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful throughout the evening. One example of the thoughtful service: I was torn between two white wines, and since my partner ordered one of them, our server offered to bring a small sample of the other so I could compare and choose what I liked best. We also mentioned that we had never tried caviar before but didn't want to commit to a larger portion. They suggested a "bump" for $5 each, walked us through how to enjoy it properly (on the hand, letting it warm slightly), and made the experience feel fun and approachable. We were seated at the bar, which gave us the opportunity to chat more with the server and manager and watch the team prepare dishes for other tables. It genuinely felt like sitting at the chef's table. We both opted for the tasting menu, which changes from time to time, and we were very happy with the selection. We also added the lobster roll, and our server thoughtfully timed it so we could enjoy it alongside the warmer course. The meal began with two different oysters, one topped with caviar, giving us another chance to enjoy it. Next was the shrimp cocktail, which included wasabi--but not in an overpowering way. The flavor was present yet balanced, allowing everything else to shine. The escargot course was especially creative and delicious, paired with basil oil, pepper jelly, and hints of balsamic. While it might sound unusual, the flavors blended beautifully. I expected the pepper jelly to dominate, but it was surprisingly subtle. Next was the potato pavé served with a scallop. The textures were remarkably similar, and the scallop was cooked perfectly. The lobster roll was very good, though I personally found the bread a bit denser than I prefer--I usually like a more buttery, Texas-toast style--but my partner loved it. The turbot followed, accompanied by a chestnut beurre blanc that was incredibly silky and flavorful. It paired wonderfully with the king trumpet mushrooms, black truffle and the fish. The final tasting course was the petit fours: three small cakes--matcha, red velvet, and ginger molasses. They were slightly dense, but still a nice way to end the meal. We also added the house-made basil ice cream (because the basil oil earlier was so good), and that was an excellent decision. Although my birthday had been a few months earlier, once the staff heard we were using a birthday gift card, they surprised me with vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and a candle--such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. They also treated us to a small glass of dessert wine. By the end of the night, we knew we had found our new favorite place to celebrate. The overall experience is absolutely worth the price point, and I only wish more places were like Mink. We can't wait to return.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.

I almost hesitate to share this hidden gem because I selfishly want it all to myself, but they deserve every bit of recognition. We can't wait to go back and are definitely adding this spot into our regular restaurant rotation!

We had crab rangoon for appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. Everyone ordered a seafood boil and we all were pleased. The restaurant is right across the street from Westland Mall. Looks like it used to be a Pizza Hut....

Let me say, this was such a fun experience, great company, great food and great service. Cibo Detroit has such an amazing vibe, well lit, bringing in a peaceful but fun energy and great art decor, making it feel very upscale. The food matched the ambience, everything was delicious. The brussel sprouts had the perfect amount of char, the steak was very tender. This is definitely a place we'd go back to at some point!

We came around 5pm so it was still during their new happy hour (4-6, M-F) we ordered some cocktails which were tasty. Cocktails were all $12 during happy hour. We also got two apps from the HH menu, and one app from the regular menu. The pizza tasted like it came from a pizza oven which was great, the palomino dip was rich with flavor, and the shrimp had a great flavor to them. For entrees we got the salmon, meatball, and crab orchettie, probably spelled wrong lol all had good flavor. The polenta with the meat ball was a bit flavorless but over all good. When our bill came we noticed there was 15% gratuity already added and a 5% "service fee" also noticed the HH prices weren't applied. Our waitress did fix it quickly, which was appreciated. Overall a good dinner and will be back to try the brunch.
