I highly recommend Star Locksmith! Bulent came over to my house 15 minutes after I called and fixed our front door handle. What I really appreciated, aside from his efficient work, was his honesty. He quoted me a price which included fixing the mechanism inside the lock. However, when he dismantled it, the mechanism was totally fine but there was a tiny metal piece which had broken off which had dislodged itself causing the problem. I only knew what had happened because Bulent explained it to me. He told me he would only charge me for the service call and the labor. I was impressed with that. First of all, I used the Yelp quote request system to ask several locksmiths for quotes, providing specific information about my situation, which involved removing a Kryptonite bike lock. Bulent (the owner of Star Locksmith) was the only one who actually responded with a real, dollar-amount quote instead of a generic "Call us and we'll discuss it" message. (I'm currently overseas so I can't easily call, plus the whole purpose of the quote request system is to get a quote without having to make a phone call. No?) Bulent was quick to answer my questions over the Yelp messaging system, and we scheduled a time for the next morning. When Bulent got to the location where the bike was supposed to be locked, he found that it wasn't locked after all. I of course expected (and offered) to pay him the usual $45 service call fee. He very kindly told me not to worry about it. I was blown away. So, yeah, from beginning to end the service was terrific and easy. Bulent of Star Locksmith was professional and proved he was looking out for the customer. I called on Monday and came came over the next day on Tuesday. Our deadbolt had failed when the key got stuck and it took WD-40 and 15-20 minutes of effort to remove it. It seemed to me the tumblers got stuck so probably needed a new deadbolt. Bulent quoted a price over the phone. He came over, took the plate off, and looked at it. Then he told me he thought he could fix, rather than replace the lock, and that it would work like new - AND it would cost half the estimate he gave me over the phone. (Wow!) So he took it apart further and discovered it wasn't a failure of the tumblers, but a bad installation of the pin that caused the key to get stuck. Over time, turning the key left and right finally caused the last turn to tighten on the key. So he fixed that and the lock works great. Also got 4 new keys - different from the old ones. I told him that I see why he gets a 5-star rating on Yelp!. He then said "Oh you heard about us on Yelp! - I can give you a 10% discount for that." (What!). I have to add my voice to the chorus here. I snapped off a key in my mailbox a few days ago. It wasn't exactly a surprise - the lock had been a bit wonky and hard to work for months, so I am not surprised it put stress on the key. I called Bulent (didn't know his name at the time), and he was able to show up nearly a full hour earlier than promised, which was great, as I had that afternoon off work and was expecting a package. Throughout the whole process, he was extremely aimiable, and afterwards he explained why the previous lock had been behaving so difficultly. We also had a great conversation about Turkey, which for me was an unexpected treat. We called Star Locksmith when we needed to get our locks changed out lickety split after a our contractor went psycho on us and walked off the job. Bulent arrived on time and bearing locks! We told him that we needed some antique looking locks to match the existing theme of the house, and he had the perfect ones, ready in his van. Not only was Bulent friendly and courteous, he was also very mindful of wood shavings that would be produced from him using his drill and he swept them up and put them in a trash container. When I asked if he'd mind me looking over his shoulder so I could learn how to change out my locks in the future, he talked me through how to do it step by step! He is the grand master of locks! He changed out 4 locks inside an hour and made very good fitting and smoothly operating keys. Bulent is the best out there! I work in real estate, so we have a couple regular Boston locksmiths we work with to make key copies and to change out locks for our clients. I had my purse with my keys in them stolen, so I called one of our regulars and he couldn't make it to my house to change the locks until wayyy later in the day. I called Bulent after reading reviews and seeing the 10% discount on Yelp. He came within a couple hours, and was super polite, clean (as great as our other guys are, they're usually grimy..), and FAST! Even without the 10% discount, he was cheaper than the other guys. In addition, a part of my door was aligned incorrectly by the developer when I first bought my place, so I always had to jiggle the knob to lock the door. Even without me mentioning this to Bulent, after he completed the lock changes, he readjusted my door at no cost to me. Even though our exchange was short, you could tell Bulent is a hard worker with an honest heart. I'd love to see him and his company soar -- he really deserves it!
